Plum2. Have a huge favour to ask of you... Or any other Saheel ladies. Do you know whatthe width and drop of the curtains in the room next to the kitchen (dining) and in the bedrooms is? I initially said I'd stick with the curtains in the villa, but I'm now thinking of taking my own and i want an idea of how many of mine will fit and how many I will still have to buy. Need to make a decision asap otherwise I'd get the agent to meet me there and let me measure. Thanks in advance if anyone can help.

I like Lauren too. She's lovely and very good at her job. She sorted a cranky reflux S out in 3 sessions.

It depends on the subject. Some subjects are semester modules while others are year modules. But even so, all dates for semesters are the same. I've got to be quick but if you still haven't found anything I'll help u more later.

Another happy LG customer here. Most of our White goods are LG and we've had no problems. Had a dodgy Whirlpool fridge so wouldn't touch them again.

If you put him on the waiting list now you should stand a good chance. The one over the road at the Polo Club is also very good. I think it's run by Jebel Ali Village Nurseries. Didnt know there was another one..thanks. Are they open, do you know? May just pop round and have a look and put his name down at one.

Hmmm... I am clueless, but then that's no surprise. I'm good at remembering faces thoug so if I saw you I'm sure I'd recall. Will get in touch. All signed up now. Eek!!!! So exciting. It's going to be great cycling to school in the winter but I'm much more excited about the extra few minutes we get to sleep-in in the mornings before a mad dash to school. Another question, DS 2 is 8 months, I'd like to put him into the nursery in Saheel (when he's around 2 years) ...is there a crazy waiting list or do you think we'd get him in.

Home in the day, keep AC's on but not too cold, got quite a bit of grass to water (hence my midnight panic and my first thing in the morning post on here;-) ) we really like the villa though, well actually- the location. Saheel st just a stones throw away from the pool and park and close to gate 4 (?) which is fab for getting DS to school. Babysitters....oh now I'm really excited!!! Will have to get in touch. Yes, I do know Sandfly ;-)

EEK!!! This thread and the fact that I caught the "fishmonger" at C4 in Mirdif CC drop two pieces of my fish only to pick them back up and slap them on top of my other bits of fish...his face when he looked up and saw that I was on my way back and had seen what he'd done was priceless. But it's worrying indeed.

Oh dear, I was just going to reply that I give him a very hard kick and make sure he's on his side and not his back. But sounds like your DH is bad if it's keeping you up all night. I've had to ask DH to sleep in the spare room only a handfull of times which have probably all been nights he's been out at the pub. I find when he's ha a few drinks it's much worse. I'm sure more ladies on here will have something to suggest. I have seen things in magazines and pharmacies that claim to cure snoring, but I'm not too sure they really work, doubt it. Sleep deprivation is the worst thing ever.

Shellly I have a camp cot you are welcome to take along for madam to sleep in. We've found it 50/50 regaurding cots in hotels and the standards havent gone in accordance with the standards of the hotels in our cases. Some of the nicer places have had the most shocking cots. Other travel MUST (for us) have been a lightweight stroller (again, you're welcome to use on of ours) and a stick blender. Blackout blinds...hmm...just ask for extra blankets and put them up over the windows, if you have to, go but some safety pins to fix them to the back of the hotel curtains ;-) Non slip mat for the bath is always a goodie...and doesnt take up much space at all. Take some blankets and a fitted sheet from home, so things feel and smell familiar to them, and a few toys, a bath toy or two (plastic animal/fish/character that doubles as a teether/daytime toy and a fave book.

I like the pampers premium ones. Have had to use pampers regular twice on DS when they didnt have the premium in his size and both times it ended with nappy rash. I guess it's donw to the baby, it's skin and our own personal preference. Have been meaning to try the C4 ones, think i may just do so.

FWIW, Cecile gave me incorrect information regarding breastfeeding when my first DS was born but i certainly wont go slatting her as i know she has been invaluable to many mummies out there who have struggled. Calling her fat - or implying it at least just shows bad character IMHO

Look at monsoon (or similar) online. Then send them a list of "likes" to try on an see which they like and just buy them. It's hard to make the dresses if they can't have regular fittings. Save yourself the hassle and just buy off the highstreet. I'd try get some money back if it has anything to do with the tailors not doing the job properly.

We're leaving out villa at the end of June. But it's only 3 bed. But 2 of the rooms are HUGE. Has a big private garden, rock feature/waterfall and is really lovely. Great landlord and very well maintained. You can hear the planes, but not on the flight path. Outside, lovely maids room. 115k. Let me know if you'd consider.

TBH, DS didn't like his much either as soon as he was old enough to choose his own teether/toy out of his toy selection... Sophie was never touched. She's still cute though and I'd probably still be tempted to buy it. I highly recommend. Luxe Little. Outstanding service and you can choose to pay on delivery and I don't feel their mark up is as rediculous as Pottery Barn's.

Irrelevant here, but have you posted on the thread about what Dubai was like when you first arrived here, KB? This is the thread and it's absolutely fascinating: http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/messages.aspx?TopicID=152289 edited by simpleasabc on 26/06/2011 Thanks for pointing me to it, I have added my bit. No doubt loads I've forgotten...lack of sleep has done wonders for my memory - not :-(

Thanks for pointing this thread out to me simpleasabc. I arrived in 2002, so not as early as some but I have still seen some HUGE changes. One of which i mentioned the other day to DH...our nearest Spinneys (we're in Mirdif) was in Bur Dubai and to get there - if you planned it right, would take you 20 minutes and if you planned it wrong could take you nearly 2 hours - YES, just to get there. The traffic was crazy. I worked in Jumeirah and there was no Bussiness Bay...a trip home would take up to 2 hours in the evenings...I'd even discovered going on the l Ain road all the way round and up to DSO and come through academic city...which doesnt seem so bad now it's all developed but at that time I was basically driving out into the desert just to miss the traffic. The main malls were Burjuman and Deira City Center. I remember the excitement around the opening of Ibn Batutta and MOE and watching the ski slope grow everytime I drove down SZR. Which was NOTHING like it is now. I remember going to Ibn Batutta for the first time and thinking we had gone to far as we'd seen nothing but desert for such a long time. I remember when Global Village was where Festival City is now. I remember when 300dhs was a big shop at Spinneys, not just a few bags. For those who live in Mirdif - I rememeber when there was nothing but desert where the Shorooq villas are now. There was a HUGE sand dune and the locals would park their 4x4's and light a bonfire on the top of the dune most nights. We really were in the middle of the desert...and that wasnt that long ago either. Dubai has changed a heck of a lot, and I wish I could say for the better as this is certainly the tone of this thread...but I really do MISS the good ol' Dubai days.

I was going to say Sharjah aquarium...or the petting zoo in Sharjah? Or swimming? We take our 2 (3.5years and 8 months) to Wafi. The pool is chilled, and there is loads of shade. They do a daily rate for visitors i believe.

It's what i was the going hourly rate when I came to Dubai 8 years ago, so sadly it hasnt changed. If you're working to make extra cash and keep yourself busy, I'd say you'd be silly not to take the job ;-)

Apparently all Medela bottles are BPA-free. yes and so are their breast pumps. Also avent are. It's still worth checking as I have found some of the stock in Dubai to be so old that it is still the non-BPA free ones.

Some days you get a hint of the smell over here in Mirdif, so I assume you must be able to smell something on occassions in Warqa'a. Must depend on which was the wind is blowing.
