I did my antenatal classes at Infinity, this was 3 years ago but I really liked the class and it was interactive. Not sure if they still do that. After I delivered I also attended their baby clinic. :-)

I am sorry you had a bad experience. One of my friends highly recommended this place for cooking classes. I havent gone yet but I will in the near future. http://topchefdubai.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=klpveup1bed66lrf2mc6o6opd5 http://www.facebook.com/THISDUDEKNOWSFOOD <em>edited by KenzaB on 20/06/2013</em>

Hmmm, thanks ladies. This is not actually for me, but for a friend, who tells me in the UK you have to obtain a prescription for it. Do you mind me asking which country you are getting it from? There must be a reason why it is not available over the counter. Adrenal issues? Cushings syndrome? I believe that there are side effects, so you should tell your friend to get a script. There is no stock in the UAE, even if you have a prescription from your local doctor. As every medication for psoriasis it has side effects. This is known to patients, most live with it their whole life so no surprises here. That would not be the reason they dont have any stock here in the UAE. It has something to do with the supplier, but most pharmacists are optimistic that one day they will receive their orders. I usually have my doctor back home (Belgium) prescribe it and my mom passes the bottles on to any of my friends who happen to fly to Dubai.

OP, it doesnt matter if the doctor had a bad day or not. She is not supposed to be rude to you. I had the same thing happening to me in American Hospital. She actually laughed me off and said it was all in my head and refused to give me a scan, she said there is nothing wrong with me and I already had a baby so all was fine. She treated me like a crazy hypochondriac. I saw a fertility specialist a few weeks later and they found a cyst the size of a grapefruit on my ovary. I would never stay with a doctor that is rude. I can really recommend Dr. Azizunisa in City Hospital. She and her nurse are sweet people and if you have to wait, the nurse will walk out every 10 to 15 minutes to apologise and give you the opportunity to reschedule. That being said, please dont count on not waiting for any prenatal appointment from now on in any hospital. I have sometimes waited from 30 minutes to 2 hours. This is all normal, and it happens in all hospitals. Doctors dont only work when they have patients in the room, they have files and reports to fill in and some cases require research so please bare with your new doctor as I am sure you would like them to do the same for you. I wish you all the best with your pregnancy! x

It has been out of stock for the last 2 years in all Dubai pharmacies. I know because I think I have tried them all. I now always bring my "stash" from home or have visitors bring additional bottles because I doubt they will ever stock it again. I am out right now, so I know how annoying it is not to be able to just buy it at the pharmacy. Just let someone bring 10 bottles from your home country if possible, that is the only way you will get them.

Thanks LB, will have a look this afternoon. Another little find, havent gone yet but plan on checking it out tomorrow. Doesnt look like they have a website so here is the link to their facebook page. Its a maternity shop in Barsha. From the pictures it looks quite interesting. https://www.facebook.com/BluePinkFashion I went to Just Kidding near Safa Park as they are supposed to have Isabella Oliver but the collection (10 pieces) was rubbish, unless you want to dress up like a 80 year old grandma heading for a funeral. <em>edited by KenzaB on 03/06/2013</em>

We have the same problem here, we both speak Dutch and our son goes to the nursery and now he barely even speaks Dutch anymore. He is 2,5 years old and everything that comes out of his mouth is english or a mix between dutch and english. I am also very concerned about his english not being as good as the children of native english speakers so I do correct him when he makes english mistakes, not sure if that is the appropriate thing to do. Could you tell me more about the Dutch school please? Hi ChuckyDucky, I'm Dutch and before me moved to the Middle East my children didn't speak one word of English. My eldest two, then 7 and 10, weren't accepted at first into any school but after 3 months of English lessons at home (3x per week) they were accepted in a school in October and by Christmas they spoke pretty good English :) And now, my eldest doing his GCSE's, he actually is doing English literature for his GCSE's which, according to his teacher, not all kids with English as a second language can do. My youngest just turned 4 when we moved, went to a pre-school and struggled a bit at first. But within a few months she only spoke English and we actually had trouble getting her to speak Dutch again :0) My children now mostly speak English when they're together as that is the language they speak most of the day. It is really important that both you and your husband speak your own first language consistently to your child, as fluency in your mother tongue will help you learn another language easier. As for Dutch, when your son turns 4, he can actually attend Dutch school as well. It's not a full time school so he'll have to go to another (English-speaking) school during the day, but once a week after school, he can attend Dutch school. Dutch school is about speaking Dutch with other children, learning to read and write properly in Dutch and learning about Dutch culture (so they celebrate King's Day, Sinterklaas etc.)

During pregnancy I only wear Birkenstocks... nothing more comfy for your swollen feet then that in my opinion. They sell a few similar ones in some pharmacies and in Blossom in Dubai Mall. Dont expect anything fancy, just accept the new shape of your sausage toes, lol....

Is it me or did Jenny Rose in Mall of Emirates close down? Maybe I waited to long before being interested in maternity clothing because I keep looking for new finds at 6 months and I still think the options are limited or way to expensive to be able to wear only 3 months. I did find this one online today, havent used the website yet but looks like they have a few nice pieces and they deliver in 24 hours. http://www.thebabyboutique.com/for-mom/maternity-glam And this one: http://en-ae.namshi.com/women-clothing-maternity_clothing/ <em>edited by KenzaB on 29/05/2013</em>

I am sorry to say but this does NOT make any sense. Who is your doctor at City? She/he needs to explain to you why this has happened and also give you a new date depending on the reason you are having a C-section. I imagine this must be an incredibly frustrating experience. FYI, my birth plan at American was respected to the last letter. Just make sure you explain it again to the midwife, and make sure hubby stays with the program as well. Thanks KenzaB. So perhaps if I put in the birthplan that postpartum, the baby should never leave my side and not be fed by anybody other than me, they will respect that too? Here's hoping. I know it makes NO sense at all. My doctor isn't a City Hospital Dr but from another clinic, so I can only speculate that they give preference to their own doctors and patients but even so, it is crazy. The trouble is that my doctor is travelling on Wednesday, so perhaps they did offer another date which she couldn't do. My csection isnt really a real urgent emergency but it needs to happen this week, so my back is against the wall and I am feeling slightly panicked. Yes, as you can read from my post below I have a very mixed review on American Hospital. Delivery excellent. Post partum care not impressed. As one of the other ladies pointed out, just make sure that baby stays with you as they whisk her out of the room constantly and sometimes it happens when you have fallen asleep. You wake up and baby is gone, it is quite unnerving. Including their attitude versus bottle feeding, they dont see the harm of giving a newborn formula and I am not saying this is bad, it was just NOT what I wanted for MY baby.

I didnt look at nursing tops BUT I saw a shop in Marina Mall this weekend where they also had maternity clothes and half of their tops were nursing tops. The shop was called Smitten. http://www.smitten-boutique.com I am planning on checking out Deira City Centre next weekend as I heard that Topshop and New Look have a maternity collection over there. Will keep you girls posted! :-)

I can only say, this will pass. It happened to my son around that time, but it doesnt last very long. The little tummies are getting used to processing the solid food. . I can't imagine anybody stopping to feed their children dinner to time their pooping behaviour at night. You might want to look into maybe offering different foods for dinner? Maybe dont give any fruit purees or broccoli in the evening?

I was here twice and have to say I will never visit this place again. The first time I had to send back my food twice as it was cold, hard and tasteless. My sons pancakes were still raw, not a good thing to serve a toddler. Service was appalling, getting cutlery was a challenge and by the time it came food was cold again. Eventhough I had a bad experience I decided to go again, because I do like the location and the decor and I was hoping I got them on a bad day that first time. My god, the second time was even worse. They actually took 45 minutes to come and take my order only to tell me that the kitchen couldnt handle the stress and that they are no longer taking new orders. Euh, excuse me? What about a croissant with butter? They are lying right over there, can I have that? No sorry, we are not taking any new orders at all. I am pregnant and my child is hungry, isnt there anything you can do for me? No sorry, kitchen is closed, at 1pm lunch time. I had no choice but to walk out and go somewhere else.

Agree - sine last posting unfortunately now decided to separate - oh well such is life....need the break more than ever now :-) I honestly dont think there is anything is wrong with a temporary separation. If I wasnt pregnant I would have gone home for a few months. Sometimes you just need distance to be able to break through the negative vicious circle.

Hi ladies. I was booked in to have a Csection at City this coming Monday, but bizarrelly City cancelled it saying they are too busy so now I am going to American instead. Having read all this feedback about AH I am now very worried. Did those of you who delivered there have explicit birthplans that were ignored, or do you think that might make a difference? Would really appreciate any tips for how to make the best of it as at this point I have no other options open to me. Thanks. I am sorry to say but this does NOT make any sense. So in total I have used 5 agencies and the BEST one was Best Maids. It was like having Mary Poppins over, she spoke perfect english, she knew exactly what she was doing and needed almost no direction. Only thing I needed to do is point where the cleaning products were and the vacuum cleaner. She took initiative and her ironing was impeccable. If I ever need a cleaning agency again I will stay with Best Maids. My regular maid should be coming back this week (still no show, UGH) but worse case scenario I will be booking that girl from Best Maids.

I got my rocking chair and rocking footstool at Mothercare and had a beautiful cover made for both in one of the curtain shops, dont remember the name. But I love my chair and the cover can be washed weekly + fits the nursery perfectly.

Thank you for your advice ladies. It does make perfect sense to eat healthily. I guess i wont drive myself mad trying to loose any weight before i see my doc next but definately be more aware of what im putting in my body. Yearsssss of watching what i eat,for the first time in my life i let myself go happily indulging in what i want.....but that was short lived too :p Guess its healthy eating and watching for the rest of my life! *sigh* I dont think your weight gain is way over the top, but of course it all depends on what your starting weight was. If you are skinny then it would be fine, if you are obese then that would be to much. My previous pregnancy I put on about 30kgs because I took the eating for 2 quite literally. The putting on is easy, it is the getting rid of that is the hardest part, also dont believe all the myths about the kilos flying off when you breastfeed. I only started losing weight when I stopped breastfeeding. And than it took me another year to get back to my pre pregnancy weight in a slow and healthy fashion. Since I also indulge in the daily sugar and fat it wouldnt be fair to advice someone else to stop treating yourself to little sweets. However the days you do indulge, just do it early, when you are still burning calories, dont do it before u go to sleep. I have most of my sweets as a breakfast snack or with my lunch. I am now 24 weeks and I have put on 5 kilos eventhough I have my daily sinners treat. I do work out 2 times a week which is far from ideal, but at least it is better then nothing. Dont try to lose weight. Just try to stay a bit stable on this weight and keep a weight agenda for yourself so you can see when you gain and if it is connected to your calorie intake or if it is water retention.

I wanted to do a quick ultrasound 3 weeks ago and called Mediclinic Ibn Battuta and they saw me the same day. The ob-gyn there was an indian lady, very nice and caring, I was really impressed. I will have to check my phone for her name, I forgot (preggy brain) How much did they charge? Hey, I am sorry I am not sure how much because its covered by insurance. The Mediclinic network should be covered by a lot of insurances. Maybe 450aed? Just give them a call otherwise.

I have now used Home Maids twice, will not be using them again. The first lady that came broke our vacuum cleaner lifting it up from the hose, or tube, I dont know how to explain but its broken now. She was pretty fast though and in 4 hours she did the cleaning and 1 hour of ironing. Second time I called they sent a lady that was very very very slow, she didnt understand basic instructions, kept dropping everything and in 1 hour of ironing she did 4 pieces. Took her 30 minutes to change the sheets on my bed. It was a complete utter waste of money. I normally do what she does in 2 hours and still have to time to read a book and have a coffee.

I delivered at American 3 years ago, the delivery itself went perfect. The midwives are amazing, the maternity ward very spacious and modern. The anaesthesist was a very funny guy who put me at ease and after 12 hours of labor the epidural was a heavenly experience. Now, the negative. There was no lactation consultant present when I delivered and some of the nurses were good but majority were rude and hurt both me and baby who wasnt latching on. Not only that, but even though I specifically told them to NOT give him a bottle of formula, I found out they still did that behind my back. I found out because even though he didnt have a feed due to his bad latch, his blood sugar levels were quite high and when I asked the paediatrician how that was possible he said, well if you havent been able to breastfeed him for the last few hours than the only other solution is they gave him a bottle. When I confronted them they actually refused to admit it, when I called the management and made a big deal they finally admit that every time they took my son away they bottle fed him. Explained a lot to why he refused to breastfeed, he just wasnt hungry.

Dear OP, I am really sorry for the horror you must have gone through but it is not always like that. Because the tone of this thread has become quite anti natural birth I feel like I want to share a small part of my story. I had a natural birth and thanks to an amazing midwife I had not 1 tear. I already put in my birthplan that I did NOT want an episotomy, as far as I was concerned that was my biggest fear of giving birth. When they wheeled me in the labor department I kept screaming I DONT WANT AN EPISOTOMY... I was terrified by the idea. Anyway, the midwife on call reassured me that if I did exactly what she said and followed her lead I wouldn't even have the smallest tear. She was right. How ever, if I went through what you went through I would probably entertain the same idea for a last child. Whatever you do, just make sure you weigh all the pro's and con's. Good Luck!

When I called Ecoclean to book a maid they told me that it was 40 dirhams per hour for a cleaner. If I needed the cleaner to vacuum and mop than it was 45 dirhams an hour. I was like euh... of course I want my cleaner to mop and vacuum, lost interest straight away. I booked 4 hours at Home Maids, they sounded professional and tomorrow I will let you guys know how it went.

Oh yeah, I think its called Eco Cleaning, I think I have them on my facebook. Have you tried them? Might give them a call.

Dr George's place doesn't do direct billing with insurance companies but I can fill out the forms and claim mine back (Arab Orient Nextcare) . Bit of a pain but if he's as good as everyone says, then it's worth it. I've asked for a price list, so will post on here if I get it. I have sent all my friends to dr George and they all converted. I wish I could klone him and have him at home during my whole pregnancy. I will check with my insurance company how it will work and how long it takes before I can claim back the money, since I have 100% direct billing at City Hospital it wouldnt financially make a lot of sense for us to pay out of pocket. Very unfortunate!!

I started out with full fat white yoghurt and blended the soft steamed fruits in. Also the Petit Gervais cheeses from Carrefour are nice with some fresh fruit puree. The Rachel brand ones from Spinneys are quite yummy too. I am not one of those mothers who is overly worried about sugar or fat content so maybe they are not the best choice if that is on your mind.

HA! No way you were at Exhale too? So was I- also my first time lol I was the one who during introductions said I was 15 weeks and massive lol I should be there again next week! I don't know how the class will keep me fit either- but I'm desperate not to gain that much again so I'm giving anything a shot and hoping for the best lol I'm a bad swimmer too but will also try that out! I wonder if zumba is a good idea for preggos? Oh yeah, I was the one who asked you if it was your second baby. I think we were both first row. I am going again next week, I thought it was fun + afterwards I went to Baroque and had an amazing healthy lunch. Dont know about zumba but why dont u give the regular gym a shot? Some cardio and light weights? A friend also adviced me today to try yoga, so thats next on my to do list <em>edited by KenzaB on 16/04/2013</em>

Im getting prepared to wean my 4.5 month old on the advice of my paed. Can anyone with experience in this area give me tips pls? im afraid when I give her solids she's going to vomit even more than she does now aarrgghhhhh!!!! My son had severe reflux first 6 months of his life, to a point that 3 months after birth he weighed the same still as no food stayed inside his belly. Back in Europe they do advice to start around 4 months with solids and here it is 6 months so I started around 5,5 months and I have to say 1 thing, once I started on solids his reflux disappeared. We tried everything and not to support the breastfeeding maffia, I have to say that after trying all the antireflux formulas, I was under the impression that breast milk triggered less exorcist episodes. Unfortunately by then he got so used to the bottles he didnt like my milk anymore. My doctor was dr Wasseem from NorthWest clinic, and his biggest advice was to space the feeding times out as long as 3,5 hours.

After a rough 1st trimester, I'm finally starting to feel better! I gained over 60 pounds with my first pregnancy and am determined not to let that happen again and have a more active and safe pregnancy this time around. I started doing pre-natal yoga and pilates in JBR and also ordered The Pregnancy Project DVD's to help me. Just curious to know what all you other mom's out there are doing to stay active and fit! For those of you who have babies, did staying active help you with labour? Same here, I gained over 30kgs with my first pregnancy and took me FOREVER to get rid of it. I went to JBR Exhale this morning as well. Were you there? :-) I try to stay fit by going to the gym, tried prenatal pilates for the first time today, dont really see how it will keep me fit but it was a lot of fun. I am a bad swimmer but will definitely give that a try as I resigned from my 17 hour a day job last week. Time to give baby nr2 some well deserved attention inside the womb!

Dr George is the best doctor in the world, lol.. no wonder he charges a fortune. Just out of curiosity, are there any insurances covered by his clinic? If you want to stay at City i discovered a really nice doctor there who is also a fetal specialist, her name is dr. Azzizunisa. If my insurance doesnt cover dr Georges clinic I will stay with her. She is genuine + reachable on her mobile for advice and very willing to reassure at all times.

Ugh, I am so extremely disappointed! I sent a message today to ask whether my results happened to be in yet and they informed me that due to easter in Europe my results will take another week. So only by the end of next week I shall know whether I have a positive or a negative diagnose. I feel this information should have been shared with me the day I drew blood, easter doesnt just creep up on people and if labs close than patients should be informed! Feel like crying but to angry for that now.

As I understood amniocentesis was also not a 100% science, it seems to be 99,4%. It is normal for fetal specialists to convince you to have an amnio, it is their bread and butter obviously. Unfortunately they don't promote the non invasive testing and in stead tell you that after non invasive you always have to confirm with invasive. I guess the margin on the non invasive test isnt profitable enough yet. I have emailed with the owner and called one of the doctors here and they have confirmed to me that their lab in Germany hasn't made any wrong diagnoses yet so I think that sounds hopeful. This is the website of the distributor: http://www.genpharmservices.com/contact/ They are quite friendly and helpful so I am sure they can tell you if your doctor has the possibility to prescribe the test. Bummer about the price drop to 7500 , I work really hard and pulling out 8500 this month was a huge sacrifice. Akia, I think prenatest and maternity21 are similar, except that prenatest is produced in Germany and Maternity in the US. The doctor I saw in City Hospital said it is a diagnoses and not a risk calculation so I am going to believe her. I am still crossing fingers all is well. Wednesday I have my result and it feels like time is standing still.

Hi Bex - I did a tour of the American Hospital labour ward 2 weeks ago as that is where I will have my babies. I enquired about the cost of NICU as I'm also having twins and have had complications so they will come out at 35-36 weeks and may need some special care. Apparently it costs a minimum of 4,000 AED a night for one baby in NICU. Hope that helps. Also, the midwife informed us that AHD do not accept preemie babies born under 28 weeks gestation. They send them to Latifa Hospital. A small warning about the preemies as I was studying this with my previous pregnancy. Latifa Hospital doesnt accept any babies unless mommy has registered with them for antenatal care. I registered with them to be sure and never had to use the hospital as I gave birth in American on time. But if you have twins I think better safe than sorry, register for the antenatal appointments at Latifa (I think 5000aed by now) and u can always keep your own doctor if that makes you feel more comfortable.

Hi KenzaB, could you advise where you did the test? Which hospitals / centres offer it? As I understand it is fairly new, but also reliable. Good luck with your pregnancy, and keep us posted Well, I called the distributor of Prenatest in Dubai and asked them which doctor in City Hospital could do the test as I am fully insured with them. They recommended dr. Azizunissa and gave her mobile number. I called her and she took the time to explain the test in detail with me on the phone. I then went to see her 1 week later and what she does is a full scan (similar to 12 week scan) and than an informative talk about the test and how it is done. They dont take the blood in CIty Hospital but she gives a prescription to perform the test in a specialised lab in Health Care City which is across the street from City. I do know that the Fetal Centre also has the test but they advised against it when I asked for it as they say invasive testing is the only way to be 100% sure. To each their own opinion but I am to much of a chicken to have a needle near my baby. I do hope for future moms that the price will drop because 8500aed was a big chunk of money for me.

I went to see a doctor at City Hospital that I have never read any reviews on, her name is dr. Azizunnisa or something, anyway, I was pleasantly surprised and I am considering staying with her since dr. George's clinic still hasn't opened up. She studied fetal medicine so during a random consultation she did a full scan and I was really impressed with that.

So anyway, I went for the test on Wednesday the 27th and now have to wait 1 more week for the results. The lab claims that its 99.9% certainty that they can either rule out Downs or confirm that baby has it. The waiting period is killing me though.

Riva beach club on the Shoreline, 100 each, very nice, and you can buy lunch and chill on the beach or by the pool. They sell alcohol too. edited by salsB on 24/03/2013 I saw it when I tried out Sophie's last week. How is the water there? As its on the palm, do people actually go inside of the water on the palm? I kept hearing it wasnt clean.

Hi Bex Congratulations on your twin pregnancy. I am a mother of twins that were born last year at City Hospital. They were born at 32 weeks so spent some time in the NICU. I cannot give you a complete breakdown of costs as both twins needed different care but for the 2 weeks that they had care they clocked up over 100k each, eye watering if we didn't have insurance. Thankfully we had insurance for them. We use Aetna insurance as I was covered by AXA but my husband switched his as they provide you with new born cover, even if its the dad only on the policy (he did this 3 months before I gave birth) Have a look at Aetna or leave the country, if you stay and your twins are born early the last thing you want to do is worry about money when your babies need the care. Wishing you a healthy and Long pregnancy. X wauw, I am so happy to read your post. I am not pregnant with twins but I just got insured with Aetna and I wasnt sure about their coverage for unfortunate situations such as NICU. Hey Bex, I also think my husband informed them I was pregnant and he still got us insured. We were previously with Daman so we didnt do the 9 month waiting time like with the other insurance companies. As a matter of fact, Daman also takes on pregnant women. At least they did 3 years ago.

Humm.. I am very surprised and disappointed to see that a part of my message about my negative experience with dr Braithwaite has been erased. I do have a friend who was with dr. Sant and she was extremely happy so for me it looks like I will be paying her a visit after my 12 week scan at the fetal centre.

Hello girlies, I just wanted to say. This is my second baby and I do have experience with dr Grace Jacobs. I didnt like the experience. As I had a high risk pregnancy before I did have to look far and beyond for a doctor and the only person I really trust is dr. George. Unfortunately he is in the process of moving clinics so until his new clinic kicks off I have no idea who to go to.

I would like to add myself to this thread. I am 9 weeks and 3 days. Got pregnant right before I was supposed to start my IVF protocol so because of that still with dr. Wael for all my scans. Baby is calculated for 14th of September. :-)
