When people say 'of' instead of 'have', "I would of, I could of, I should of" - No no no, it's "would have, could have and should have" and if you need to shorten it, then it's would've, could've, should've, if you must. Drives me potty. Oh and 'Thrice'.

When my preferred pill disappeared off the shelves here a few years ago, I found an on-line UK company called www.pharmadoctor.co.uk who stocked it. After doing an on-line consultation (basically yes/no answers), it is reviewed by a Dr and then approved to send out. I have been ordering repeat prescriptions from them every 6 months. They send them out Royal Mail registered post and it usually takes about a week to arrive here. I don't know if they stock yours, but I can vouch for them being a legit company and a good solution for me.

Building 10 also has the housing fee, I just checked with a friend. Like us they are paying well over the 5% housing fee, so I gather you guys must be as well, our dewa for a 2 bed is based on a rent nearly aed 50k more than we are paying! No, I'm paying 5% housing fee, had no problems with that, although I do still find it extortionate........ There is also an additional fixed fee for sewerage charges, which takes the fixed monthly amount every month even higher. My usage charges are tiny, it's the fixed charges we're stuffed with  edited by Kezzler on 04/03/2015

Sadly, yes I pay housing fee. I was sent to 3 departments at the Land Registry, they finally sent me to one of their senior bods who said that Buildings 1-5 are registered and Ejari is available for these, however, buildings 6-9 are not (I'm in 9), they didn't mention 10, but that until these particular buildings are registered, then they cannot issue Ejari. Hence why the gentleman stamped, signed and wrote something on my tenancy contract, so I could use this as a verified contract in the absence of Ejari.

I tried to register Ejari last month as I'm sponsoring my DH, however, Golden Mile 6-9 are still not registered apparently. I visited the Land Dept myself, who said it couldn't be done yet, but they did stamp and sign my tenancy contract as acknowledgement of this until the buildings are officially registered. I don't know yet if they have been, but that was the status in Feb.

I've recently moved into quite a big 1 bed (1400 sq ft) and my DEWA bills are huge (I think), without any consumption, the fixed amount (Housing fee and Sewerage) is AED 642. My last bill including consumption was AED 865. Can't advise on chiller as LL hasn't got around to dealing with that yet.

Same as Kezzler, my first marriage, hubby's 2nd and we got married in Christ Church Jebel Ali. They made everything so very easy and simple. You just need to attend a marriage counseling session, which was really funny actually. FairyDust, were you in mine???? We did have a giggle, it was very odd.

Congratulations SH12. I married here last year, my first time and hubby's second (we're both Brits). We married at Christ Church in Jebel Ali and the process was pretty simple. What they do require is proof that your fiancé is legally divorced, therefore his Decree Absolute. This was the sticking point for us to start with as hubby had no idea where his was and it took months to get a duplicate from the court in the UK. The church will not agree to see you both until you can provide this. However, we finally got it and from there on it's pretty simple. You will need to make an appointment to meet with the Reverend initially to talk about your love, commitment etc (all rather bizarre as it was with another couple as well, a tad embarrassing, but we had a giggle about it). Then, if the Rev agrees (which she or he will I'm sure), you can set your date. After this you will need to get sworn affidavits from your embassies (not sure if this is the same for Canadians) to show you are not already married. These are only valid for 3 months (from the British Embassy anyway) and so you will need to marry within 3 months of getting the affidavit. After that it's plain sailing, you're good to go and get married (dates permitting). The church is very helpful and will tell you everything you need to know and do. Oh I forgot to add, they do encourage you to attend their wedding seminar on a Friday. Once you have married, they can also arrange for your wedding certificate to be attested by the courts here for a cost of 900 dhs. Hope that helps and Good Luck. :)

Hello Ladies, n Happy New Year :) I desperately need 1000Hour cover grey stick in light brown shade. They used to sell it here and stopped, and they don't have it on Amazon :( Would really appreciate if any of you kind ladies currently there, could carry a couple of those sticks for me… Thanks a million in advance Hi Carambar, I was in Hyperpanda DFC yesterday and spotted they were selling the 1000 Hour cover sticks and it reminded me of this thread. They had different shades available in the toiletries section, so they may have the one you're after. HTH.

Hi Lilly, First of all Congratulations on your upcoming nuptials :-) I can't help on the Thailand side, but I got married here in Dubai last year, both myself and hubby are British. As a Brit, our embassy does not perform weddings and the only legal way to marry in the UAE as a Brit non-Muslim is to do this in Church. There are a number of Christian denomination churches in Dubai, we chose Christ Church Jebel Ali. The fees to do this were: Affidavits from British Embassy - AED 800 for two (I think, or something like that). Church fees - AED 2,750 (an additional AED 500 on top of this if you choose a Friday). Marriage Certificate attestation - AED 900 I don't know if the rules are different for other nationalities, it could be different for South Africans and the process may be cheaper if their embassy do carry out weddings, but from the Brit side, that's how you can do it here. HTH and Good Luck.

They had loads of mens pyjama's in Marks & Sparks, DFC. Don't know if they had many for women, but Marks usually do. ETA; I missed the 'Xmas' bit, sorry. The mens' PJ's I saw weren't specifically Christmas themed, but there were different tartans (red & green), which can be a bit Christmassy if you're struggling to find anything. edited by Kezzler on 22/12/2014

Given that there are a number of Christian Churches in Dubai, endorsed by the authorities, I can't see how Christian books can be restricted. When I married here earlier this year (at Christ Church), we were given a copy of the Bible. That being said, it could depend on the person who may (or may not) intercept your parcel and their opinions on Christianity and what side of the bed they got out of. Hopefully you'll receive your gifts with no issues.

Love my Double Deckers. So glad that Park n Shop sell them! BTW, what's with the 'Mackintosh' Quality Street over here? I know they used to be the manufacturers before nasty Nestle got their hands on them but how come they're branded with the old company name and the flavours are sooo boring? They're nearly as bad as those tasteless Jewels, eurghh! I will finish my chocolate rant by asking, why can't you get Thorntons chocolate coated toffees here? Waitrose quite often sell them, they're called Thornton's Toffee Chocs (orange and brown bag), usually where the hanging bags of sweets are on the confectionary aisle. I used to buy them all the time, but they are really rather dangerous ;-) so I haven't looked for a few months, but you most definitely used to be able to get them.

Hi Saffron P, I was married here in June and it was very easy, that being said, my DH and I are not Muslim. However, the British Embassy Consular division will do the following (taken from their website): "From January 2014, The services we provide •posting a notice of marriage for marriages performed in third countries •issuing affidavits for marriages performed in other embassies, UAE Churches, Abu Dhabi and Dubai Courts" From my experience recently, if you are getting married here in Dubai, then you do not need to post a notice of intention, however, you will need the affidavit, which is essentially your declaration as to your status. The cost for this is AED 380 per person (I think). You do have to book this appointment with them on-line, you cannot do it by phone. You need to e-mail them your request to [email protected] and they will come back to you with a link to their booking system. I guess with the Eid holidays they are being a little slower than usual. As long as one of you holds a residency visa, then you are fine. HTH and Congratulations.

I got married a few weeks ago and wore a vintage style hair piece, sort of a thin alice band with a side bit of a small flowery, feather thing with crystally pearl bits and it had a small birdcage veil. I bought it in Galeries Lafayette, cost 650 dids. I'd be happy to let you have it at a much reduced price if it would interest you, I can send pics if you like, albeit, no idea how to on here. Anyway, let me know if of interest. Oh and Congrats on your forthcoming nuptials.

I love Uber, I use them at least twice a week and find the pricing not much more than regular RTA. I've been using them for quite a few months now and still get excited watching the little image of the car on it's route to you, it shows on a map once you've confirmed the booking (simple things please simple minds :-) ). Never had to wait longer than 15 minutes and have never experienced bad service like it seems some others have. For advanced booking's I use Careem, who are good as well and have always turned up on time, they are a bit more expensive than Uber.

All turned out fine though, I went to the big Etisalat place near Murooj Rotana, took all my ID's etc and it was no problem at all for them to transfer to my name. They said that if it was contested within 6 months, they would transfer it back, but if not, then yours officially. HTH

Hi FrizzyBusy It depends on the building, our building used to be centralised AC and the LL paid, however, the building switched over to Palm District Cooling, so now we as tenants pay. Just make sure that the itemised bills are in your name so the bills come to you and you know exactly what your usage is. I've heard of some unscrupulous LL's who keep the bill in their name and then charge the tenants massively overpriced fees for it. HTH.
