So I have two options really: - either pay whatever rent increase he demands within the 90 day window (so technically he can't do it any later than June 1st) to avoid a clash and keep him happy Or -contest it with the RERA rent increase calculator result as well as that 2 year rent freeze, but then risk being asked to leave a villa and a neighbourhood we really really love Dilemma, dilemma.... The 2 year rent freeze no longer applies, the rental calculator has superseded this.

Yes but we didn't live in a country with temperatures of 30 - 40 degrees for most of the year. We didn't want to bath because it was too ****** COLD - no central heating and a " shower " - what was that ? A rubber hose that attached to the taps and always blew off with the water pressure! :D What era was this? 1920's? No - Scotland 1960s and 1970s ! :D Chester early 1970's also, we had an emersion heater, 4 kids and 2 adults, [b'>we shared bath water with a sibling ( i imagine the comments i will get on that)[/b'> due to the hot water running out and having to wait for it to fill up and heat up again Oh i miss the good old days Not from me Louise, I know exactly what you mean ;) We had an immersion heater as well. edited by Alismum on 21/02/2013 Yep, me too :-)

"Eeh, when you gotta go, you gotta go, better out than in" is a phrase that rings in my ears from childhood. This thread can only be described as a fascinating insight into peoples washing and toilet habits, each to their own, no hard and fast rules and as my fellow Yorkshiremen would say "There's nowt so queer as folk". :-)

Has anyone else had a problem with a bank 's cards not working in a restaurant where alcohol is served? What a nuisance that would be. That has me leaning towards ENBD - unless they do it too as they are meant to be the same company. If by ENBD you mean Emirates NBD, then no, never had a problem in outlets serving alcohol. In fact as a bank I can also highly recommend them as others have. I receive a text after every single transaction, whether it's a purchase or withdrawal from ATM, which is handy. Their on-line banking is very easy and making transfers simple. They are also very good at checking it is you making a transaction if it's a relatively large amount (few thousand dirhams) on-line, several occasions they have called me up to check it's me making the purchase. HTH.

Not that this is of any help, I'm the big four oh this year and whilst I don't have any grey hairs on my head, I was quite horrified when I found a rogue one appear in my lady garden last year!!!!! Plucked that little blighter out straight away, sadly it's a stubborn little b***er (the grey hair) and does keep making an appearance, eeeek. ;-)

Generally, you are asked when in the main building and handing over your form where you are going, if you say Oman, they will ask to see your insurance, but if you say Visa run, back to Dubai, they don't ask. Certainly this was the case for me a few years ago and I did it for a year. OH did this all of last year (ie, visa run, back to Dubai) and again, no questions asked.

Hi Icoolie, I've recommended a site on here before that is based in the UK which I use and that do ship to UAE. Same situation as you, prescription only in UK, not available anymore in the UAE, but you carry out an on-line consultation (ie, answer the questions on a yes/no basis) and a Dr will review and approve (or not depending on your answers). Not sure if they will stock what you are after, but worth a look: pharmadoctor.co.uk Takes between 1 and 3 weeks to arrive here as they send it Royal Mail registered (hold up is usually at this end) and you can track it. Never had any customs issues, but my meds aren't on a banned list here, so it may be worth checking that as well. HTH edited by Kezzler on 17/02/2013

Ha yes, albeit, when I last did this (quite recently) it wasn't my shopping, but my big handbag, which had been sitting on the seat of the trolley! You've never seen anyone get back to Marina Mall carpark from JLT so quickly and thankfully, as I drove near to where I had been parked, the trolley man was snaking trolleys along with my bag at the front of it, saying he'd spotted it and was looking for the person who'd left it. You gotta love the UAE for that, had it have been left back in Blighty, no way would it have still been there. I was soooo grateful, offered the chap a reward, but he refused to take anything.

I thought Halal "friendly" products had to be clearly labelled as Halal? (I'm talking about just the UK here). If that's the case, then surely the products contained within have been verified as such and can clearly be identified. The products that are coming to light that contain spurious meat products are not labelled Halal, so doesn't that make the "Halal" point moot? Saying that, I haven't lived in the UK for a few years, so maybe this has changed.

"I'm so hungry I could eat a horse" certainly has a lot more meaning these days. To be honest, I don't see what all the fuss is about, I've eaten horse meat in France and it is quite regularly on the plates in lots of countries at mealtimes, it's actually quite tasty and healthy, as it's very lean. That being said, I do feel sorry for the cows, bloomin' horses, stealing their jobs.............

I got one in Daiso and it cost about 2 pence. HTH. because she said in the op that this wouldn't work....... :D Did you not stay awake to read all of it :\: Sorry, just woken up - I did ETA on my last thread, once I realised - double doh.

They had loads of rice crackers, including seaweed flavour ones at Spinney's Al Badia today, in the savoury biscuit section. I'm assuming as they have them in this Spinney's (which is a small one), they will have them at larger ones too.

The huge car park next to the Hilton has gone, that's where they're building the new shopping mall, but they've opened up a new car park on the other side of the Hilton (as amazingdxb said) opposite IHOP, Cafe di Roma etc. Alternatively, Murjan (the first block of JBR) has visitor parking, entry is from the road in between Murjan and Sadaf, on the right hand side, heading towards the Walk. Parking is generally easy on a week day, as long as you go before 4pm I guess, but weekends you need to get there early.

It's not long til Easter though - Good Friday is 31 March this year which I only realised yesterday. And we missed Pancake Day! No, Pancake Day is next Tuesday :-) Seriously???????? DD2 was very disappointed when she told me yesterday we'd missed Pancake Day! (Not that you can't have pancakes any day, but somehow it's different!) I think I'll give up on this thread and go to bed for a nap! Maybe DD2 was trying to pull a fast one and get pancakes early ;-) Like you said, not that you can't have pancakes every day, but it's not the same as having them on pancake day, with lots of lemon juice and sugar - yum. I think Pancake day is the only day of the year I eat pancakes! Happy Napping :-)

Hi everyone, Ive discovered a website called reebonz.com that sells designer bags and wallets at a discount. Has anyone used them before? I have my eyes on something but I want to make sure its genuine first. Otherwise, do you know of a website that sells real designer bags? netaporter.com Not just bags, but clothing, shoes, accessories. I buy quite a bit from here and delivery is super speedy (usually within 2-3 days) and a set price of 20GBP per order.

Yes, definitely not kicked in for me either and I'm 39! This thread has been so useful to me. Thank you ladies for all your responses and to the OP for posting :-). The more I think about it the more my concern about having children is driven by fear of the alternative, rather than the really wanting a baby. So if I'm honest, I think that might answer the question itself. Although I doubt this will stop the indecisive angst, it has helped enormously. FFx Wow Fairfield, are we living in a parallel universe??? This is me all over and same age too, the big 4 0 looms this year.Your words "driven by fear of the alternative" are spot on. Thanks for that, you've made me feel better too.

Oh yes the snogging, you're right that was more disturbing. New ones are needed I am fed up with the repeats, and also not keen on the SA ones. Just not as funny or disgusting. There is an Irish version on ITV Granada this eve though, maybe ok? And apparently the 'supersize' one is coming? Whatever that is? I do hope we get a Dubai one, can you imagine???? There is going to be a Dubai one, they may have even filmed it already. I was asked by the production team if I wanted to do it back in October last year - my response was a resounding no. Whilst I love watching it, I can think of nothing worse than airing my dirty linen in public. That being said, if they have only filmed it recently, we'll probably not get to see it for about another 5 years...............

What disturbed me more about that one was the sno**ing with another contestant nearly half her age, it was vile. It's not a buffet but we really love Sarai. It's arabic, really beautiful interior and such pleasant staff. The food is just delicious and the price is right (have to admit, it's been 2 years since we've been so hopefully it's still as good). It's not licensed though. Also found this: http://www.dubaimoves.com/13190/jbr-the-walk-restaurants/ when I couldn't remember the name of Sarai and did a search. Good list, might help you! edited by andreasmullet on 30/01/2013 Sarai closed down a while ago, it's now an IHOP. it may have moved, but I don't know to where, sorry. As for Buffets on The Walk, I think aside from BBQ Delights, it will be only the Hotels (Ritz Carlton, Movenpick, Oasis Beach Tower, Hilton, Ramada, sofitel, Amwaj Rotana, JA Ocean View & Sheraton) that will serve buffet style, but as you can see, there are now quite a few hotels to choose from.

I can't give advice on the procedure that you are asking, but all I can say is, the only proper way to lose weight is by eating healthier and exercising. Faddy procedures are not the answer in the long term, ultimately there is no 'quick fix'.

Ok, ladies, I will give you a little tip for items you can't find on large supermarket shelves. Pop into the little shops like Al Madina or neiborhood shops. You can usually find easier items like stock cubes etc because they don't sell in such quantity like larger chains. This is what I do when I can't find everyday type items which are out of stock. My secret is blown. Sadly, if only this were true in the area that I live, but no, can't find them for love nor money in the "little shops". Simpleas, thanks for the offer to the rest of us struggling to find them, thankfully for me, OH is off to the UK next week, so he will be tasked with bringing back a case full of OXO, amongst other things. :-)

Had to make bolognese last night without beef stock and ended up using a bit of Bisto onion gravy and a touch of marmite to add a bit of depth. Still tasted good however, thankfully Balsamic is a bit of a saviour in masking 'odd' flavours.......... ;-)

How long have you stuck at each of the attempts? In your reply you mention proving the dietician wrong after 2 weeks, however, you will need to stick at any one programme for longer than 2 weeks to see longer term, positive results. Sadly, there is no 'quick fix' solution as I'm sure you know. Why not try for a month at least. But, after that time, don't then give-up. Health and fitness are a lifestyle choice and if you want to be fit and healthy, you have to stick with a programme and not chop and change. I'm no guru on this, Beebers is your lady for that, but try if you can to persevere. Good Luck.

Greens to Airport Freezone, approx 25 mins as you are going against the traffic. Length of commute and how you feel about them are relative though, I think anything less than an hour is a dream, but that's because it could to take me up to 2 hours to get to work back in the UK. If you're used to spending only 10 mins, then 25 might be a bit much........... Good Luck with your interview.
