My son was born in Paris in 2003 and had the vaccine as it was mandatory at that time in France (which is no longer the case) My daughter was born in London in 2006 and didn't get it as it was not mandatory. When we came back in France in 2008, she went to the nursery 3 times a week and it was still not mandatory. But now that we live in the ME, I keep wondering if she should have it. I also talked to 2 different pediatricians here and they have opposite opinion...so I am still confused about BCG, all the more as my daughter had a very bad reaction to one vaccine when she was 2 - we had to go to the hospital...FYI she goes to school here so it is not mandatory in the UAE.

I renewed mine 10 days ago at the typing center just next to the "Jafliya metro station". The good point : I didn't have to leave my passport there (I wouldn't have anyway). The bad point : no news so far, will I ever get a new card ?

Because I told them I would take them to Kidzania... and yesterday as I was shopping at Waitrose at Dubai Mall, I decided to check how crowded Kidzania was and that was just unbelievable even at 10AM (the line was huuuuuge) !!! so I would like to know if there is a chance this week that it could be less crowded.

Just want to share my experience : I have been living in Dubai for 3 years now so I can compare the bills. Our September invoice for 2011 shows the exact same consumption as the 2010 one. But whereas we paid 1600 dhs last year, we must pay 2700 dhs for this year, i.e an increase by 68% for the exact same consumption in September !!!! The difference comes from : - housing tax which we didn't pay last year - fuel surcharge that is new for 2011 - increase in the rate Hope this helps... edited by kikidubai on 01/10/2011

We chose our villalocated in Jafliya (near Satwa) based on the following criterias : - near the school (OUd Metha) - near DH's work (DIFC at that time) - near the beach - in a small compound (because I wanted the kids to make friends easily) now that DH will work in JLT we realize that the traffic on SZR is not as bad as in 2008/2009...

Hi there, I live in a small compound in Jafliya and I heard a few days ago that some of my neighbours should be moving by mid-July. Would you be interested in this area ? The villa has 3 bedrooms+study I don't know if it is available and if this would be OK for you. If so, let me know and I will mail you the contact number of the office that manages this compound...

I live in Jafliya near the Trade center roundabout and Satwa. The pro's : - very quiet area (residential) but near the "real life" - 5 minutes drive from the french school that my children attend - 5 minutes drive from Jumeirah 1 with its small malls that I love and its beach (even though we prefer the beaches in Um Suqueim for a swimming but for a walking the open beach is just perfect) - near Zabeel Park which is one of my favourite parks in Dubai - 10 minutes drive from Dubai mall - very central location between old and new Dubai - very nice neighbours The con's : - not a very green area - many mosks which can be wake me up at night

what about a furnished apartment ? My brother rent for a week an apartment at Marina : http://www.jebelali-international.com/properties/oasisbeachtower/Tower/Overview.aspx he said he would go back there whenever they come to Dubai (and he is an ex-Dubai resident) and they had also free access to the Jebel Ali resort (free shuttle+entrance) I know also that there is an apartment/hotel just near the big mosk in Jumeirah, but I am not sure whether you would like to hear the prayer at night. Let me know if you are interested, I will try to find the name.

Yes you can try the summer camps...My 7 year old son doesn't want to go back there this year :( so I am planning to take him (and his sister) to kidzania, little explorers, play areas, cinemas, ice rink, stargate....and to the pool ! We will also invite friends at home...

I have been living in Dubai for 3 years now so I can also have my opinion. For kids below 3 years old I just would not recommend Dubai for a holiday destination during summertime. There are many other places in the world that offer better weather and activities for young kids during July and August. Of course I would recommend Dubai for a holiday but in October/November/Feb to May. And when you live here, you try to deal with the heat (but still from June to October I try to avoid outdoor activities - my younger daughter is 4 now)

if you have the budget for it and you are looking for a charming tourist place, I would recommend the 7th arrondissement (Eiffel tower) but try the small typical streets like rue Cler...the metro stations in this area are "Ecole militaire" and "La Tour Maubourg". Montmartre is also really a nice place but very crowded during summer time (with tourists of course) and not very easy to access other places (if you want to move within Paris) I never really liked the Champs Elysées area with all its large avenues...but it really depends what you are looking for exactly ? edited by kikidubai on 10/06/2011

Hi Holly, I have no problme with Bis now. To make a long story short, you need to have a HD decoder (I haven't bought a new one) and a mpeg4 pcmcia adaptor (you know it is a device in which you put your Bis TV card before inputing the whole thing into the decoder). I can give you the contact details of a satellite guy if you want...

I would ask for at least a second opinion. The first dentist I had here in Dubai wanted me to have a root canal, I wasn't sure about her decision and went to another one who "saved" my tooth without having done it....

We bought ours at the Mazaya Center on SZR. There is a special store with memory foam matresses. And there is also a "homes'r us" where there is a big choice of matresses as well. Re. memory foam, it took me several weeks to get used to it and I am not still convinced but my husband loves it ! it really depends on people I guess...and I was the one who wanted one when I had tried it in the store...

I used to travel a couple of times to Dubai at the end of the 90's (my brother lived there at that time) and I really enjoyed the holidays here, what a wonderful time ! I used to go at the Oasis Beach Club (which doesn't exist anylonger) and the only beach hotels were the Ritz and the Oasis Beach... I came back and settled down in Dubai with my husband and 2 kids 3 years ago and to be honest I am really happy what Dubai became...there are quite a lot of things to do now, I don't think I would have been able to live here 10 years ago, I would have got bored very quickly...even today Dubai has not so many entertainments to offer so imagine 10 years ago ! Viva new Dubai !

if you want safety you should go for Volvo or Mercedes or VW. I have a Toyota Rav4 which I am happy with, but we recently bought a Mercedes ML (an old one) and I can feel the difference : the ML is much heavier, I think it is safer than Toyota (not to mention the several recalls made by Toyota over the past months regarding safety issues on many vehicles).

Reflets is the best ! try to ask for the tables against the wall instead of the ones in the middle of the room. I didn't really like the atmosphere at Rhodes even though the food was great. I wouldn't go back there... Pierchic and Eau zone : romantic atmosphere but the food has nothing special at all.

The guy's name is Mustafa. My mail is dhdg at eim dot ae if you want me to send you his number. I have the exact same decoder as uae mom (by the way this is a Kaon not Keon ;) ) but I bought it a long time ago...and Mustafa managed to have it worked. Moustique you are right, there should be some changes again : the PCMCIA card (=the adaptor device in which you enter your BIS TV card) will have to be changed (apparently for the moment we all have here in Dubai a "mpeg2 format" adaptor device and the reason why we manage to receive the BIS channels is because they are currently "en clair"). So the next step is to get the mpeg4 adaptor which is not available at the moment (but we will need it as soon as BIS va crypter ses chaines)

which domestic tax/fee are you talking about ? the objective of the question is : how to have a maid when you run your own business ? as I would like to go back to work, I would need someone to look after the kids...I don't understand, there should be a legal way because there are many people in this case in Dubai and they have a maid...
