I use a lady called Anita who comes to the house. Her number is 5502 4310. How much does she charge? And does she have her own waxing supplies?

They are older Villas so I would suggest to make sure that if there is anything wrong with it, the landlord will fix it and pay for it. Our friends had massive problems with drainage but not sure if it is common issue. Thanks Bluebutton, that seems to be a major concern. I will definitely look to take out amaintenance contract.

We're looking to rent out in The Springs - recently found a property there that we like. What should I look out for in particular to make sure everything is okay with the house etc? I have found one in Springs 10. Is this a better built villa? Thanks

Hi, Will you be having a baby? After living abroad for a few years, and seeing the various hospitals in Dubai and India (I was looking for the same treatment we get in australia), I wasn't impressed. I went back to Australia, on Medicare, public patient - and I got the best treatment. I was so happy! I had both babies on Medicare! I'm from WA so I'm not sure about Adelaide. My pregnancy wasn't complicated - so those are the two main things. The hospital I was at was KEMH, the biggest and well-equipped in WA. St John of Gods (fancy private hospital) was one option for us initially. I looked into it, it was nice. Rooms were pretty. etc etc. I knew from the beginning my pregnancy wasn't complicated, but anything could go wrong last minute. After much research, I came to the conclusion that if something did go wrong last minute, SJOG will send me to KEMH because the private hospitals weren't as well-equipped. So I went with KEMH from the beginning. The other difference was that at KEMH, I was seen by the midwives, and looked after by the midwives who were all so, so so lovely! I think if you're a private patient (which you can be at public hospital? Who knew?!) then you get your ob/gyn? A private patient may have more info on that. Good luck

at the risk of sounding crazy, Ive spent many years all over the world. Yes, if someone did that in Australia, I'd freak. In countries like India, pakistan, Thailand, Indonesia etc it's quite normal for people to pat a strange child's head or shake their hand or ask to hold them etc. I used to freak out when they did that, it took me a while to learn that different cultures have different ways of doing things. It's mostly of good nature. But in the crazy world we live in today, it's hard to trsut. Having said that, I'd still be super careful and keep an eye out of course, but just giving my 2c about what I know :)

Yeah, they're clueless about their products. I get mine from the body shop (teatree stuff for my acne) and the guy working there (had pimples himself) asked ME if it was working for me? He seemed like he needed some advice from me.

Yeah, sisterscott, we are in the same situation here. I asked about a property that had been advertised for 170k in The Springs, they just came back to me and said someone else offered them 200K. Whereabouts are you looking at?

Are any of these nurseries 'feeder' nurseries to schools later on? I'm looking at raffles but they don't have a CCTV and I would love to check in on my little one during the day as it is his first time in Nursery also. and he's so little! just turned 3. I think another thing that would help with settling in is finding other mums with kids who will be going to the same class, and organising playdates a couple of weeks before term starts. that way there will be familiar faces in class and it makes things easier.

Hi everyone, How do you determine which nationality you want? I see some ads asking specifically for Filipinas or Sri Lankans - what's the difference? Once I have found someone I would like to employ, how would I go about it? Where do I go to start their paperwork? Thank you so much!

Is there such thing? I would want her to come for about 4 hours a day. How much would it cost? I'm not sure whether I'll need a full on live in maid.

Is anyone else's kids starting there in September? I was wondering if any of the mums would like to get together a few weeks before term starts so our little ones will have familiar faces in class :)

8-3pm for FS1 is ridiculous. Rather call the nursery and clarify the timings as it could perhaps be a typing error on their website. You dont have to enroll your child in a specific nursery to get a school spot. There are so many new schools opening that you can pick and choose where to send your child. FS2 school spots are not in shortage anymore in Dubai. Thanks Appletiser. I did call them, and yeah it is 8-3pm (they also have the option of 8-6pm!!!) I keep reading on forums and FB pages, and most are saying it's extremely competitive.

That's what it seems to say on their website. Has anyone gone through the process? I just find the hours way too long for my little boy. it's 8-3pm, 5 days a week (Emeralds Programme/FS1) and then the weird thing is FS2 is 7.45-12pm -- is that normal here? I would prefer a different nursery so he doesn't have long hours but I don't want to risk the chance of not being able to get a FS2 placement for him at school? I don't know what to doo!!!! HELPPP

bump! EW has become so quiet, I was expecting some replies, even if they're just from people about how much they hate GEMS schools ;) I'm in the exact same situation as you are! How are you going with nurseries/schools? No one is replying to me either! According to their website, GEMS Nursery almost guarantees a placement at a GEMS school. The lady on the phone told me that they still have to do an entrance assessment test (which I think is just formalities if the child has attended a GEMS Nursery Emeralds Programme prior). I'm not sure - I was kind of thinking about Kidville but I would rather do a GEMS that would help in school placement. It seems like it's really, really competitive to get into FS1, FS2/KG1

Have you looked at Dubai British School in Springs and Dubai British Foundation? The Foundation is near Springs, and Dubai British School gets rave reviews on here if you do a search. They are not GEMS which some parents find a plus! Dubai British Foundation nursery section: http://www.dubaibritishfs.ae/our-location/uncategorised/our-location Dubai British School http://www.dubaibritishschool.ae/ Just to add, if your littles ones are 3, they need to start FS1 now if you plan on going into the British System. Children who turn 3 by 31 August go into FS1 :) I have looked into some nurseries and I'm strongly leaning toward GEMS Little Learners FS1 so he can go to FS2/KG1 at the GEMS DUbai american academy. Tips? Advice?

Thank you ladies, Beebers yep I totally get you! My skin is soooo dry! Not only on my face but my whole body! I'm literally slathering anything on it that gives it some moisture! Oil free or not! Can I ask how long you were on Acutane & how long the dryness lasted after you quit? I'm also having a major breakout but I ve been assured the meds need to push out all the pollutants from your pores before it starts to clear & it won't last . . . Here's hoping! I appreciate your advice on diet / products ect, but I ve been suffering from this for 22yrs and believe me I ve tried everything! I think I'm one of the unlucky few who really does have hormonal acne ? Just need to stick at these meds I guess & hope they don't kill me in the process! ? Hi there, I recently came to Dubai and have been too lazy/busy to get to a doctor. One step below RoAccutane is Doxycycline - I'm on day 2 of taking it so I can't say whether it's working for me but the side effects seem to be way more mild than Accutane. Do a search, speak to your doc and ask if that's an option for you. I'm hoping it works for me, otherwise it's roaccutane for me :(

Hi there I'm moving to The Springs, Dubai in September and I was looking for a nursery/ kindergarten for my son, he will be 3 years old. I'm not looking for anything full time just 3 days a week. I would be grateful for any suggestions that would be close to The springs that offer part time options. Thanks! :) So am I :) I am also moving there around that time and my little one will be 3. I am after a similar nursery thingo. And so far, I am looking at Kidzville in JBR. They have a website. The only thing is, I'm not sure if it will help in my son getting into a school? GEMS Jumeirah Primary School have a preference of kids who have attended GEMS Nursery or the like. Argh! I dunno.

My son went to Kidville nursery when he was 2. I really liked them.Later in summer camps when he was 3. Now he's 4 & wants to play with friends in park more. The teachers are responsible & you sense they are accountable to senior management unlike favourite things that I tried recently. But the only thing was that they din't allow parents participation after few days. But you can go for family pack etc if you want to stay with ur children inside. Thanks for that Salsul. I have spoken to them and have made it clear that I would like to stay with my child for as long as he feels comfortable - what's the family pack?

ahhh, I misread your post completely. HAHA. Find another real estate agent, they usually give you an estimate how much it will cost to have it cleaned up and if you would like them to proceed. Otherwise, cheaper to go yourself or send a friend or family to help clean and then try again. Real estate is always a pain to deal with when you're overseas. I'm never doing it again!

hi Gilly3 I had a house with neighbours that wouldn't leave in WA. They didn't take care of the place and we were working overseas. Long story short, the law sides more with the tenant. You can send them a termination notice giving them a 30 or 60 day notice (depending on whether your lease is periodic or fixed term) and if that fails, you can then apply for a court hearing to have them evicted. You can do this online, don't need to be there. You can get a hearing date within 3 weeks. The judge could rule anywhere between immediate eviction to 7 day eviction notice. In most cases, if it's a family staying, you may have to just wait as the judge won't throw them out. In our case, we moved back to WA, and after a lot of calls, etc, the tenants finally moved out and we renovated and sold the house. I'm tired, it's late, I hope that made sense :)

So, we had a look at a few houses in Mirdiff today. It was quite concrete-ish, and stark, to say the least. How does The Springs compare to Mirdiff? The houses in Mirdiff were quite nice but we found the neighbourhood doesn't have many parks or stuff for the kids. And very small backyards or none at all. And how do The Springs vary in their numbers 1-15 (I think?) What's the difference? If anyone knows of a good realtor for the Springs area, please please tell me. cheers

Hello, everyone, I'm new to this site and hoping you lovely ladies can help. We're moving to Dubai and would like to be close to a neighbourhood with parks and ideal for families with young children. Of course, not too far from the city either. Our budget is about AED170K to AED220K and we'd like a house with a small private backyard. Any leads, please? I have been looking on propertyfinder and dubizzle (are those prices negotiable?) My almost 3 year old will be starting Kindy/preschool soon, any recommendations? We'll also be shopping for furniture, where can we start for quality furniture at a reasonable price? Where else is a good buy/sell website? That's all for now, I'll be picking your brains a little more later... ehehehe
