I have a certificate for 2 nights stay for 2 in a deluxe room, breakfast included at Ritz Carlton DIFC valid until December 31 2011. I've had it for a while but simply don't have the time to use it so I want to sell it off before it expires. If interested, please email me on lafanidxb at gmail dot com. Thanks.

Always. I don't care if there's nothing worth stealing in it. I still lock it anyway cos I'm paranoid like that :) Ok, that was terrifying to watch. As if I wasn't paranoid enough already. Is there anyway to avoid that then like wrap the suitcase in the jaws of life or what? :( edited by ladygodiva on 10/10/2011

The last time people were noisy in a cinema I was in, one of the guys went to get security and they told them to shut up or leave. They were quiet after that and we watched the rest of the movie in peace!

I didn't like this doctor at all. He didn't inspect my face and kept trying to push roaccutane and augmentin on me even though I said I wasn't comfortable with such strong drugs. He also talked to me as if my beauty is completely destroyed. And they kept trying to force some liver test on me. All that **** for AED 450 or whatever. Will never return there.

I got married after I was 40. First baby at 41 and second at 43 (both naturally concieved) - so it's possible! Thank you very much for that Clairehdp! Will pass this on to her. She has been reading some stuff online about the disappearance of eggs after 40 and babies being born with abnormalities if conceived after 40.

I was married before I was 40 but I have had a baby since I turned 40. Being 40 is brilliant. I feel much more confident now and really love life. I look back on all the things I've done with a smile but now I'm looking forward to the rest of my life. She will find love and have children if that's what she wants. No point hurrying it. It has to be right. Good to know it's possible to have babies after 40. She acts like her eggs and ovaries will pack up and ship out the minute she turns 40.

Well I'm not far off 40. I don't have children and am not married, although in a relationship. The best advice I could probably give is to stop looking. Tell your friend to enjoy her life, enjoy her friends, these things although they might be a dream for many, are not the be all and end all. Plus sometimes people come into your life when you least expect it. That's what I keep telling her but she says I'm only that optimistic cos 40's still a long way away for me.

I was supposed to meet my mum at the supermarket to help with the shopping. I was all dressed up and having a quick bite before leaving. I turned on the TV to see what was up and saw a plane fly into a building on CNN. I collapsed onto the sofa in shock and there I was when my mum came home in the evening. She came into the house screaming at me but when she saw the TV, she collapsed onto the sofa next to me. We both remained there until my sisters and dad came home much later in the evening. It was a terrible day and I will never forget it :(

Also Carrefour - the bottle with the horse on it always makes me laugh! - is it really that good? Yes it's very good especially the conditioners. I use the shampoo occasionally as it has sulfates in it.

I just wanted to give an update. I didn't seek a second opinion. I continued with the benzac and started applying twice a day instead. I also used bodyshop seaweed cleanser and mattifying day cream and alba botanica SPF 45 sunscreen and kept my fingers off my face. I started taking omega 3 and a general multivitamin everyday as well. This combined with my shower filter seems to be working. The acne on both cheeks is gone and all that's left are a few stubborn ones on my forehead. I will be switching to dermalogica medibac after I get the acne under control and will try some peels for the scars. I could have simply done this from the start instead of paying someone AED450 to tell me my face will be destroyed if I don't pump down roaccutane and augmentin for 6 months. I want to advice everyone to seek a second & third opinion before taking anything a doctor says as definitive especially when said doctor does his/her best to shove expensive medication down your throat. edited by ladygodiva on 18/07/2011

I wanted to have 2 suits made. By the time the fabrics, etc costing was done, it would have cost around AED 500 each. I can get a suit in Zara, Koton or Marks & Spencer for more or less the same price so I didn't see the point and forgot all about it.

Bye, bye, waiting in long queues at the airport :) If you have hold baggage to collect, you'll still wait. The only difference is that you'll be waiting by the belt, not in the passport queue. Quite a few times, we've gone through the e-gate barrier and waited by the belt, only to find that people in the passport queue arrived at the belt at the same time their bags did, so they were out the door and gone while we were still waiting for our bags to appear. The only situation in which e-gate is definitely faster is when you only have carry-on baggage. I don't mind. I'll use the time to do some duty free shopping or have a seat somewhere and get some work done on my laptop. I just find waiting in the long queues very tiring.

Just wanted to share my experience. I went to dnata on sheikh zayed road this morning to get my egate card. there were 2 people in line. Got to me within 5 minutes. I gave the lady my passport and she gave me a paper for payment. I went to the cashier seated in the same room as them and paid AED 220. Afterwards, I went back to her and got my passport and the egate card back. Took less than 15 minutes! I'm stunned! :) Bye, bye, waiting in long queues at the airport :) Is that a NEW (seperate) e-gate card or did you just put the e-gate access as an option on your emirates ID card; heard its a lil cheaper that way, and so much easier as you don't then have to carry 2 cards. The guy that was before me asked about using his emirates ID and they looked at him like, "What the heck you talking about?" so I didn't bother to bring it up.

I stopped going to Magrudy's a long time ago. I would order books and they'd charge me nearly twice what it cost on Amazon for it plus it'd take 3 - 4 weeks for it to arrive. There was a time I was going through a phase after my mummy died and got interested in whether the afterlife was real or not and wanted a couple of books. They p*****d the heck out of me when they said it wasn't possible for them to order books like that. Something to do with UAE laws or whatever. Anyway, I ordered the books on amazon and I pretty much gave up on them after that. edited by ladygodiva on 13/07/2011

Hi Ladygodiva.. you can use Euros in Ch but Francs are better.. i seem to remember a day pass for the bus is about 12 chf, and you can hop on and off busses and trams (and the little taxi boat going across the lake) all day for that. Tickets are bought on the bus, and not from the driver. (oh, and push the red button if you are hopping off at the next stop, they dont stop at each one)... thats just by the wayside :) Best thing in Geneva is to enjoy the nature and the lake.. there are free bicycles available (i think you just pay a deposit) and the city is hugely bike friendly. There's the Red Cross Museum, Natural History Museum, United Nations, and the old town to explore. At night the lakeside usually comes alive with open air bars and music, and is very festive in summer. The open air cinema - Cinelac, begins in mid July.. tho many of the movies are dubbed into french so check first if your french isnt too good! Venturing further out is the beautiful medieval village of Yvoire (just across the border in France), and also Annecy is lovely, and Evian... all in close distance. http://www.geneva.info/museums/ may be of use to you for loads of further info.. Enjoy ! Thanks a lot dizzydubai. That's a lot of very good info.

Just to give an update. I booked with Madras to do the pest control today. I booked it for 2 and they sent someone who barely spoke English. I nearly had a brain haemorrhage trying to describe how to get to my apartment over the phone. He finally arrived at 4. He spread some funny looking stuff all over the apartment nooks and corners and it was over in 20 minutes. He assured me it was good for 6 months but if I see anything within 15 days, to give him a call. Cost me AED 175 for my studio apartment. Hope it works. Thanks to everyone!

Just posted this on another thread this morning and it seems to apply here too. No, I'm not on commission but am so impressed (and relieved) that I want to spread the word... Hi, I've always suffered with bad skin but it's got really bad since moving here in December. I've just switched to Dermalogica Medibac products and my skin has cleared up within days. I bought the face wash first but it didn't seem to be effective on its own but combined with the overnight treatmeant and mattifier in the morning the difference was immediate. I don't seem to need a moisturiser either. It is v expensive but I wish I'd discovered it years ago. Hope that helps. how much did the 3 items cost?

Is it not right in saying that if you apply for a Schengen Visa, you have to enter ''firstly'' to the country you applied in??? I seem to remember reading it but cant find the info right now. Just a thought, prob wrong but not sure? Most of the time, I apply for a German schengen visa because they're the easiest no fuss embassy but usually I'm going somewhere else apart from Germany and I've never had any problems entering those countries.

Ladygodiva, did your doctor tell you the diagnosis ie what TYPE of acne you have? There are many ways to treat acne. Like I said previously, I have had one of the more severe types of acne and had it treated with roacutane and more recently without. There are no quick fixes and home remedies for certain types of acnes. You need a good doctor who will answer all your questions and work with you on a solution that suits you! No, he didn't tell me what kind of acne I had. Just took me into a room and told me to lie down then gave me a mirror and told me to look at my face and that was it. I thought dermatologists had instruments with lights and stuff that they use to closely examine the spots?!?! He made it sound like my options were limited and if I didn't take all this stuff, that was the end of my looks.

Hi Ladygodiva Sorry to hear of your struggle, i hav been going through the same thing, went to see a few doctors and they tried to get me to take ro accutane also, finally found a great derm at health bay clinic Dr Reuter, you will love her, go see her, my skin is clearing with her topical treatment, taken a few months but i am seeing the light. stay strong its tough but it will get better xxx Thank you very much. I'll make an appointment. Sounds like she will understand my reluctance to take such strong drugs that require checking liver functions regularly. Can I have the number or website address please? Thank you. edited by ladygodiva on 21/06/2011

I wouldn't advise the swiss embassy. It takes 3 weeks to process the application and you have to get there at like 6 am in the morning and stand for 3 hours till they open if you want to submit your application as they only service roughly 30 - 40 applicants a day due to staff and space constraints. The fastest schengen countries I know of is Italy & Germany but that takes 10 - 15 days and not during the summer months. If you've had a schengen visa previously, then you don't need an interview so maybe that might speed up the process a little. Good luck.

You are right A rancher. Perhaps, I should get a second opinion. I'm a bit disappointed as this doctor came with the highest recommendation. I will do another search and try someone else. Hopefully, the insurance company will cover the costs.

You can get benzoyl peroxide over-the-counter in the USA. I'm not sure how to get it here. I found that worked quite well too but only for a few days at a time because it really dries out your skin. You can get it here too; BenzoAC is one type. It's much cheaper than buying the proactiv version!! BenzacAC is what i've been using for the last month (2.5%) but only in the evenings. Maybe I need to increase to 5% and use twice a day before heading the way of all these drugs.

hi ladygodiva, I agree, roaccutane is a very serious drug, that should only be prescribed as a last resort for very severe acne. I do think you should call your dr. and inform him you are uncomfortable using this drug ( how old are you? because I do believe that the reason for the blood test is to make sure you are not pregnant) this medication causes very serious deformities to a fetus, if you become pregnant while on it... in all cases, there are many different combos that drs can prescribe to help control acne, including anti-biotics ( taken by mouth )... these antibiotics might have some side effects, but they are usually minimal and most people adjust to them quickly... I honestly don't think my acne is that severe. I did express discomfort at taking drugs for this and he asked me if I wanted to save my face. It sounded like I look like scar face or something. I've never had babies and don't really want to take anything to mess my body up for when I'm ready to. I didn't buy any of the drugs and still have the prescription in my handbag.

I’ve been having a severe bout of acne going on a year now and I’ve tried several things ranging from Bodyshop tea tree to Retin A to Benzac. The acne has left behind a lot of dark spots which I can’t treat with peels because the acne is still active. I recently bought a shower filter but haven’t used it long enough to see if it will make a difference. I decided to see a dermatologist a month ago and booked an appointment with one recommended on here. I thought he’d prescribe a cream or two or some special cleanser or something but after seeing him, he gave me a very long list of drugs including something called roaccutane. I researched this and apparently it has a lot of side effects. I also have to take regular blood tests i.e. they want to extract blood from me every month. With a needle. For the next 6 months. Seeing as taking ordinary advil for cramps alone takes me hours of discomfort to make myself take, I don’t see how I will be able to consume this amount of drugs daily for acne when I feel absolutely fine. To be honest, I really really don’t want to have to ingest this many drugs just to treat acne. Have I tried all the topical options possible? Can anyone recommend something else that isn’t too strong as I have combination skin which is slightly sensitive? Thank you. :(

Does anyone know what I can possibly do to get rid of cockroaches [b'>PLEASE[/b'>? I'm a bit of a clean freak and my apartment is spotless so waking up every morning to find at least 2 cockroaches in my kitchen is like finding the source of the bubonic plaque! I've burrowed into every dark corner, cleaned EVERY spot with disinfectant yet nothing works. I spray so much raid, baygon and piff paff every week, I'm starting to feel like I'm slowly poisoning myself as well. This morning, I nearly unhinged my ankle going after one I found on my kitchen napkin! :(

Update: I was finally able to get through to a number at Dubai Airport and the lady told me to ask at Larnaca airport but she didn't have any number so I logged onto Dubai Airports website and sent an email. They in turn sent an email to Larnaca airport and lost and found at Dubai Airport and it was finally located at Larnaca airport. When I got back to the airport, it was waiting for me at Emirates desk and when I checked my baggage, the lady at the counter asked me if I'd remembered to collect my stuff. I must say I was surprised at how fast and efficient it was. I expected to be given the run around until I gave up! Thanks for all the suggestions ladies :). Was very glad to get it back.

I can't remember the exact routing but I have a feeling the Larnaca flight goes somewhere else after LCA. Your bag should have been found by the cabin crew when they did their checks after all passengers disembarked, though, so it [i'>should[/i'> be at LCA airport still. Perhaps see if your hotel can give you the number for the Emirates office at LCA airport? It goes to Dubai after Larnaca. Not everyone disembarked in Lanarca. Just 3 of the passengers. The rest flew on to Dubai so there might not have been any checks until everyone disembarked in Dubai.
