I think you can hire them from ACE check their website under the "services" link. Means DIY but shouldn't take that long and atleast you know a proper job will be done.

From events page .... COSTA COFFEE - MARINA (DOLPHIN/ DELPHINE TOWER) * Please note: this is the Beach Road side of the Marina NOT the side nearest to the Sheikh Zayed Road with the Marina Mall - it's across the water from there...just to avoid any confusion! On the promenade level of Marina just on opposite side of the road to JBR

I usually make it in the oven but this might work its the recipe off my pack of rice. Place 50g pudding rice in a pan with 1 pint milk, 2 tbs spoons sugar and flavouring. Bring to the boil and then lower to a very gentle simmer for 45 minutes stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and allow to cool. This will thicken the pudding. The secret to a good rice pudding is getting the correct pudding rice for it, which can be quite a challenge here. I do have an unopened pack if you can't find any that you are welcome to have.

If you go to Hunters check to see if they still accept Timeout Dubai Citycard - 20% off total food bill - sometimes works out a better deal than the entertainer voucher especially if you have starters and/or puds plus all the side dishes. If you haven't got a citycard apply online and collect from their Media City office asap.

How about The Grand Grill at the Habtoor Grand or MJ's at Al Qsar? I prefer Hunters for the quality of their food and West 14th for the ambience with a great singer and piano player. Apart from the last time we were there when a little brat was allowed to run riot by his parents throwing all of the bark out of the planters and attempting to shake a tree to death and uproot it from its planter.

That's right Yorky was there today and Spinneys couldn't stamp tickets. Just when they should be encouraging visitors to the marina, so short sighted, this is going to harm them and people will go elsewhere.

I think it's actually just the first 20 mins that are free. I had a similar experience after going to Spinneys; forgot to get my ticket stamped so the carpark attendant asked to see my receipt, which I'd proceeded to throw in the bin right after getting it. So despite having a back seat full of shopping from Spinneys I had to hand over AED 75. Was not a happy bunny that day, but lesson learnt!! Just make sure you get Bateel to stamp your ticket before leaving if you're going to be longer than 20 mins. Update... new parking charges....free for first hour and then chargeable 2nd hour 10 aed sorry didn't notice charges for more than 2 hours. No extra free time given from spending at shops and restaurants, OK if just popping to Spinneys but pushing it if meeting friends for lunch or coffee... 1 hour is simply not enough.

Are you sure that it is the new Costa coffee at the marina walk which is only just recently been opened or the other one which is in the Delphine/Dolphin tower which is on the opposite side of the marina opposite to JBR. This is the one where the EW coffee morning is check out the events page for more information about where it is.

Needing reading glasses is often part of the growing old process : ( The muscles in your eyes take longer to adjust. Usually most noticeable when trying to read small print, if you find problems watching tv or computer screen it may me that you just need a new prescription and not actually need reading glasses, unfortunately I do, but the problem was solved by getting varifocal lenses I also have bifocal contact lenses, which aren't cheap and don't ask me how they work as I don't understand the science behind them, but they work great. Got them in the UK, I haven't tried to source them here but might be worth looking into.

To add, the damac heights towers construction was a nightmare this weekend as the construction vehicles were in and out every 15 mins ! They were laying the concrete, six concrete lorries at a time, all day and all night. said to DH "well that's the worst over" and he just laughed i guess there is still worse to come! First time ever he had to use ear plugs to sleep!

Really? The two bedroom apartment viewed by my husband wasn't 'poxy' and tastefully decorated from the photos he's emailed. The balcony may not be massive but the view is breathtaking! By all accounts the building is very well maintained........ Well it should be well maintained, it's only been open a couple of months! Please look carefully once you get here and don't be seduced by the first impression, check really closely as the finish and overall standards aren't always as good as they at first seem. Also please check out the road works and traffic problems, with the work being done for the tram and the new construction site (Damac Heights) which road entrance is also the entrance to Princess Tower all taking place at the moment, traffic and noise at best is bad during quiet periods and a living nightmare when it's busy! (first hand experience as I live close by)

Dh's company arranged the medicals and visa for me, but the costs were taken out of his wages the following month. As we didn't get any breakdown of costs we don't know if they added any costs from the company for doing this for us or not. However I wouldn't have minded too much as it took away some of the stress and hassle from me!

Last week's episode told David Tennant's character's story, so he didn't mess up but took the blame for someone else. Gave him a human, caring side that we hadn't seen in the earlier episodes. Brilliant TV Drama Yes, I am 'gripped'! Anything with Olivia Coleman in is bound to be good I think she is a brilliant actress, she conveys such emotion in Broadchurch that you completely forget that she is also in comedies like Rev and Peepshow. What is the history with David Tennant's character? They keep alluding to a case he mishandled in the past although if it was that serious why is he in charge of another high profile crime?

Could it have been caused by the earth tremors that were felt in Dubai yesterday? It might have been very slight and this was the only effect in that building. .http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/topic203443-earth-tremor.aspx edited by lal1 on 10/04/2013

I know it has been said before, by me and others, but it's worth saying again - it is much cheaper booking your flights from anywhere but Dubai. Start your flights from home country i.e. UK - DXB - UK even if it means taking the cheapest single back to the UK in the first instance. I know single fares are not that much cheaper than returns but believe me it's worth taking the hit for the single as you you make up the money in no time. It takes a bit of planning but well worth it and remember you can always pay to change the return fare for approx £75 if you have to change to an earlier or later return date. Even taking this into consideration you almost always make huge savings compared to starting your flights in Dubai. You can even use Dubai as a "long stopover" onto other destinations if you can get yourself organised and make even bigger savings. We have just done UK - DXB (Aug 2012) DXB - Cape Town (Feb 2013) Cape Town - DXB (Feb 2013) and will do DXB - UK (June 2013) the whole trip was cheaper than booking DXB - Cape Town, so our trip home to the UK effectively is free! The UK flights were to our home town of Newcastle so Geordie Expat - get yourself organised girl and save yourself some money! edited by lal1 on 31/03/2013

When we get a taxi back from DXB airport back to the marina, the fare can be anything from 70-90 aed depending on the route the taxi takes as DH always gives the driver 100 aed and does not expect any change, therefore any taxi driver taking a longer route (one actually turned into Media City had to go up to a roundabout to do a u turn and then get back to where he had turned in from) is only doing himself out of a bigger tip. Personally I always query if they take an alternative route to what I am expecting but that's usually too late as they are already committed to the route they have taken, if I know there are a few choices of routes to where I want to go I often given the taxi driver my destination and the route I want them to take i.e. Al Sufouh Rd from Souk Madinat Jumeriah to the marina rather than their preferred (quicker!!!!) route - Umm Suqeim and SZR then down onto Al Sufouh.

If you are looking at local authority schools the admissions procedures have changed for most authorities over the past few years. The one I worked at now centrally administers the admissions, applications are taken from September the year before admission until late December/early January so the application process for next September is now well under way. However late applications can be made but they will only be considered after the on time applications have been considered. Your permanent address will be key to how far up the waiting list your application will go to individual schools, if you get declined a place at the school of your choice you do have the right to appeal, but I must warn you that appeals are rarely won in classes of children aged 4-7 as the government does not allow schools to have classes over the approved subscription. If you do not get offered your choice don't dispare too much, contact the schools and local authority immediately and ask to be kept on the waiting list as often come admission day some children don't turn up and after some investigation the places will then be offered out to children on the waiting list.

I love my kindle, it's so handy, no more heavy books to carry around, so easy to just pop in my hand bag. But the biggest advantage I think is no more pages falling out of books because the glue has melted in the heat! Mind you DH has to face in towards the centre of the bed now when reading in bed as he always drops his book on the floor when dropping off to sleep, the loud thud and risk of damage has taught him to face inwards so his kindle stays on the bed!
