I have 2 tickets for the grandstand 200 aed each, bought for DH for Christmas but he is unable to go as he will be out of the country with work. Anyone interested please post a message. The grandstand is now sold out so this is an ideal way of securing tickets.

I think they are 300 aed and need to be renewed annually. Has to be applied for within 30 days of starting the job. Workers can be fined for not having one by that date. Where I worked I think the employer paid for them and kept them in the safe. If you are asked to pay for it yourself I would insist on you keeping the card as it's your personal property.

Oaks Liwa Heights in JLT have about the largest 2 bed room serviced apartments around. Easily enough room, just get a blow up bed or the larger settee may adequate for short term. Very popular though and be prepared to negotiate.

lal1 I'll be making that over Christmas for sure! Thanks for sharing the recipe! A variation on the same theme is to add cooked, chopped king prawns and then decorate with a few on the top! I usually do both and use the king prawn decoration as an alert so SIL doesn't eat that one By mistake as he is allergic to prawns:\: or if you do like smoked salmon, line the ramekins or serving dish with smoked salmon and fold over the top of the pate, turn out when set and then slice through....... Very yummy:)

A good quality pate and melba toast. I know your Dh doesnt like smoked salmon, how is he about normal salmon. I make a salmon pate to die for! Poach the salmon fillets in white wine or veg stock if you need no alcoholic version. Allow to cool and flake, blend unsalted butter, double cream and the flaked salmon, reduce the wine stock till only about 2 spoonfuls and add to the mix. pour into individual ramakins or one large serving dish and cool in fridge till set. Heart Attack city I know but a once in a while treat it's divine.

Contact Shirley direct, her email in article link, she doesn't seem to be on EW much theses days. She makes up care packs for the labourers I am sure she'll make good use of it all and know where to distribute it. See recent article on her in gulf news . One very special lady http://gulfnews.com/life-style/general/care-packs-put-a-smile-on-workers-faces-1.931123

An old article, but still worth mentioning http://www.timeoutabudhabi.com/kids/features/8637-earn-your-stripes DD teaches this in UK and thinks very highly of it. Edited to add She knows the instructor at http://dunamistraining.net/media.html who teaches this programme - may be worth checking out. <em>edited by lal1 on 05/12/2011</em>

A friend has just been stung with 12,000 aed per year increase on a one bed hotel serviced apartment, told "pay the increase or leave - we have a waiting list of people wanting to stay here" Don't think RERA will help at all even if you have a yearly contract as hotel serviced apartments come under different regulations.

We're going to the Westin...has anyone tried that? We did the Westin Bubbilicious Christmas Day brunch last year with eldest DD and SIL. Which part are you booked into? Are you on your own, with children or a group of friends as this makes a difference. We booked a table in the Hunters Room and grill as we expected there to be less children in there, the Blue Orange Restaurant is a huge impersonal room but good if you have young children with you. The brunch is located in all three downstairs restaurants and also have cooking stations outside and you are welcome to use all three restaurants, but the same food is available in all three so you don't need to restaurant hop if you don't want to. They have activities for the children, lovely outdoor setting and view. Huge range of quality food, including traditional Christmas dinner etc. We were rather emotional as it was our first Christmas without DH's mum and didn't get the best out of it and felt we were going through the motions for our DD's sake. Didn't really like the getting up and down all the time to get our food and felt we didn't really sit down together as a family and have quality time as someone was always missing getting food etc, but I expect that's the norm with brunches.

I was quoted 28,830 aed for 2 back top teeth for implant and crowns at Dr Nicolas & Asp. Extraction of the teeth I was quoted 350 aed per tooth but got charged 850 aed each tooth as it was "specialist extraction" can't fault the quality of work done but still toothless as I am not made of money, but will be interested in any feedback from other EWers.

Just an update, met up with friends in RAK before they set sail on the cruise on Monday. There was no dry day or night at the weekend, alcohol was freely available with no restrictions. As they managed to be on an all inclusive deal it turned out just fine, I think there might have been a mutiny if the lads couldn't get a drink whilst watching the football on Saturday night! Thanks for the advice and info supplied.

Thanks Grumpy, just the news they will all like to hear. A dry night does not bother us at all, even if it does seem strange sitting in a bar watching the football drinking a cup of tea (but I expect my liver will thank me!) but it seemed such a shame when visitors were only going to be here 2 nights and this hadn't been factored into the equation. There group has now swelled to 16, we might decide to join them saving on the long drive there and back, but DH can't decide wether to book the Sunday off or hope a day's holiday might be announced by the company.

Been to the one in the Marina, DR Katerina, is very good, pricey but quality work, very gentle and understanding. No hard sell, will detail recommended work, give you a dental plan with prices and leave it up to you to what work to do and what work not to do. Saved me the cost of panoramic X-ray, by getting my UK dentist to email recent X-ray over to her at her suggestion.

My youngest DD used to suffer with random, unexpected heavy nosebleeds at around that age and continued to quite some years until we discovered it was a reaction to an allergy like hay fever, brought on by varying substances from pollen, feathers, household cleaning substances etc. Found relief from using beconase nasal spray continually from march to september (UK spring/summer) to combat pollen, we eradicated feathers from the home and changed household cleaning products to more organic products. However I would suggest you writing a history of recent episodes/illnesses and discussing with your doctor as a whole history to see if they are linked or just coincidences. It would also be good to do a daily diary of DD's activities etc and chart nosebleeds to see if there is a common denominator which would help pinpoint causes.

Update on my response from FW, after speaking to a very nice chap who explained the current situation with maintenance, I received two complimentary tickets to FW to enable us to take our next visitors to FW. Since the tickets were free our DD and friend decided to go, even though they knew Formula Rosso wasn't on and said they still had a good time. Thank you Ferrari World for your good level of customer service.

Well that was surprisingly easy! Went this morning, spoke to a very pleasant girl on the desk, explained the situation, she got her supervisor, equally pleasant and helpful, given the choice of giving bank details etc and they'd get it refunded or as we were about to go into the cinema to watch a film, she gave me the tickets free. Job done sorted all in less than 10 minutes, well done Vox Cinemas, but how come we can be so pleased and surprised when things are put right when this should be the norm and not the exception!

I can beat that Bella! We start flights from Uk as it's usually cheaper, looking to fly Newcastle to Dubai 27th Dec, we have to be back then as DD is flying in from South Africa that day and wants somewhere to sleep. Emirates are currently showing £1113+ to fly that day and return Sep 2012. Daylight robbery!

Will try to get something sorted at the cinema before contacting the bank as it's my named card, but technically DH's visa account I just know the bank will want to deal with him and he can't be a**ed to deal with these sort of hassles, but I'm like a dog with a bone anD won't let go!

Yes I know shouldn't rely on their web page, but at least is will tell you which rides are definitely closed. I know the scheduled hours for formula Rosso is correct as I have spoken directly with someone at FW but of course it may still go off during those times if an unexpected problem arises.

Always best to check their website http://www.ferrariworldabudhabi.com/en-gb/plan-your-visit/park-update.aspx for updates or if unsure give them a ring. At present Formula Rosso is not operating due to maintenance getting it 100% for the F1. It should be operational Thursdays after 6p.m. and on Friday and Saturdays after 3p.m. but not guaranteed. Last week when our visitors went Formula Rosso and V12 weren't working but as they knew in advance Formula Rosso wasn't on and they had free tickets it wasn't such a big deal.

If you both post your email addresses I will email you and you can then ask specific questions. Sorry I didn't post earlier, have had problems logging in. I have guests over and they went last week and were not allowed in without a reservation. Prior to that the secretary in my office went over with a bunch of her friends and they were also turned away and told that they need a reservation. They were told that they recived a memo from Hotel management ! Have you tried post christmas 2010 . I am talking about after ramadan for the first incident and last week for the 2nd. My apologies mushy peas just rang and managed to book them in for coffee and cake, minimum spend 100 aed each had to leave credit card details to confirm the booking and got a ref number that they will have to quote to security at the gate. Hope it works! Thanks for the heads up, we were there at Easter with my niece and drove straight in after telling security we were going for coffee and on numerous previous occasions just to take photos and have a look around

Thanks for the info, we've got friends coming in a couple of weeks and will be taking them there, so good to know about the timings. Just got a phone call back from FW and this is only a temporary measure whilst maintenance work is carried out hope to have it fully operational in a few weeks. So it's best to check their website before setting off.

Unless you plan to go at a weekend. Our visitors were planning a full day visit to AD today, The Grand Mosque, Emirates Palace and Ferrari World, just checked FW website before they left and Formula Rosso, the main ride (and the only real reason it's worth visiting) was not operational by their update. So I phoned to confirm and was informed it now only runs on Thursdays after 6.00 p.m. and Friday and Saturday after 3.00 p.m. Visitors can't go at the weekend as they have a busy schedule and really it's best to stay away at weekends if possible to avoid the crowds, well there will be no crowds at all now during the week if this is their permanent scheduling for their main attraction. I have filled in FW's on line feedback form, let's see what their response is. :(

It's an hotel with a rather rowdy bar so there could be noise issues, or very handy depending on your outlook! Small apartments but quite high spec, check out Oaks Liwa Heights JLT as a cheaper, larger alternative or The Address, Marina if money is no object.

Dr Catarina Faerbom at Nicholas & Asp in the Marina, is super gentle, she was recommended to me and I can recommend her. I didn't even feel the numbing injection going in. She explains everything and her treatment is second to none. Their hygienist Megan also did a wonderful cleaning and descaling job.

I usually ignore offers that are printed on the packaging, such as tea bags since they apply to the UK etc..if i want the convenience of being able to buy UK tea bags then i have to be prepared to pay for it, in my opinion... Local products are different but when i'm shopping i work on the basis that if i need something i buy it, whatever offer/price it is (within reason !! lol) But it wasn't just on the packaging, it was on the signs Spinneys had put on the shelves.
