A winged collar shirt and bow tie should be enough. DH has a 17 inch collar shirt and bow tie you can borrow if you are unable to find any at reasonable prices. We got his at Matalan in the UK don't know if Matalan here stocks dress shirts and bow ties but it might be worth giving them a ring.

Anyone know of a delivery place that will pick up our order at a restaurant and deliver to us? TIA if there is such an animal...:) If I am right and you live in JBR, forget it, the roads are at a stand still due to the red bull x fighters event and you'd wait forever for a delivery to get through.

Major traffic jams from Al Sufouh Rd from The Westin towards JBR been snarled up since 4.30 and still just as bad. Pity anyone trying to get to an emergency in that area tonight. People seem to be abandoning cars and walking. edited by lal1 on 15/04/2011

See my comments on other thread http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/messages.aspx?TopicID=144580 and the other threads from that one, can't recommend Syed from Unique Tours highly enough, perhaps you can arrange a car just for your family, you'd then be able to take the car seats and he'll tailor-make the tour to your requirements. We had friends here in November, who only wanted the dune bashing and nothing else so he took them out in a morning, just them and did everything they asked for and theynhad a great time.

See threads. http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/messages.aspx?TopicID=109581 and http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/messages.aspx?TopicID=124307 I still would recommend Syed from Unique tours purely for his personality, helpfulness and willingness to make sure everyone had a great time. edited by lal1 on 14/04/2011

Shazam is right most policies you will have to pay, and claim back later. We maxed out a credit card a few years back when DH dislocated his shoulder in Florida in fact the cc company had to extend our credit limit to cover all the bills. Got it all back from the insurance company within a month or two.

If you drive out to the pools, wear trainers or similar as it's quite a steep rocky walk down to the pools. Also a good idea to pack a first aid kit, as I fell and grazed my knee (the stones are very sharp!)

You should have handed the *lost* item into security at IBM or the police. I was thinking that too. If I lose something in a mall the first place I go is to security to see if it was found and handed in. Wouldn't think to look on EW for my missing items. Yes there is a world outside EW and it's 5 users. LOL There is currently approx 220 EW's logged in, not including the browser who aren't logged on, so it does cover quite a large audience, plus the rightful owner will be extremely upset at her loss and whilst she may not check EW one of her family or friends might edited by lal1 on 29/03/2011

Where did I say I had kept it? It was handed in immediately, and relevant forms filled in - just trying to publicise to the widest audience possible. Gosh what's wrong with some EW's you try to do the right thing and there is always someone ready to jump to conclusions and bash you over the head. :\: edited by lal1 on 29/03/2011

oh - it was the way you said "if i found it" lol Ha ha sorry Sue62. Perhaps I wasn't that clear. I have found something that the rightful owner will be relieved to get back and just exploring all avenues possible to reunite owner and belongings. Sorry if it sounds cryptic but this is a genuine attempt to help someone.

Is hip resurfacing an option? DH had both hips done at 50 and 51 as this is more suitable for younger patients and full hip replacements can be done later if needed. It's still a new procedure and not all the answers are known I.e. How long they'll late but dh is thrilled with his and has suffered no side effects 6 years down the line. He even managed to walk down 75 flights of stairs in a new building here as he was sick of waiting for the cradle lift to reach the roof! Funnily enough everywhere hurt for a week later apart for his hips! Both ops were done at Nuffield hospital privately in the UK. Oooops just read the previous thread I think we are talking about the procedure. ;) edited by lal1 on 21/01/2011

Met up with a great bunch of blokes the other day, who work for Gateshead Council (UK) who come every year to organise and officiate at this event. I expect it's because of how well the Great North Run is organised has reach those in Dubai and called on their expertise. Good luck to all who's entered. Ah that would explain the geordies i spoke to when collecting the race pack! Yes agreed great north run is well organised, i used to live in newcastle and saw it every year. Seemingly they've been coming for years, I am Newcastle born and bred so it was great to catch up with news from home. Where did you live? We may have been neighbours!

If both husband and wife are supposed to have a license (or even a tourist) and say the wife doesn't work (as a tourist obviously wouldn't either), who gives the NOC to get the actual license? Dh fills in form gets noc from his employer, fills in your particulars on the same form. You just need to hand in your photo as well as DH's when the licence comes back it is only in DH's name and photo on, but your details are kept electronically, at the booze shops and police and you can take the card and buy booze on your own. :)

There are 2 Hilton's in RAK - Hilton Resort and Spa - right on the beach and the older Hilton by the creek, but with free shuttle bus to the other one.
