I initially used normally washing powder for my new born daughter, but quickly realised she had sensitive skin and had eczema, I switched to a different brand aimed for babies etc and noticed a big improvement. 2 years on, I have slowly started using normal washing powder and she is fine. So my recommendation would be to keep a close eye on your newborns skin and decide based on that, if you don't start off with the baby ones,

I think you may be better, to request it once the baby had been born. Although you have to be prepared to be unsuccessful with your request. I was given the standard time off, but once I had my LO I experienced big problems with her feeding and It was not possible for me to leave her. I spoke to my manager who authorised additional leave then the go ahead to work from home. I think managers, are likely to be more understanding once you have had the baby, so they can see you have tried other options etc. Take the baby in when you go to see your manager with the request - I'm sure it can only help!!! ;-)

Thanks everyone for your input. We are trying to arrange a Will which would ideally include our property here, but more importantly the welfare of our daughter, since we have no family out here. But we have recently been informed its a little more complicated then a standard Expat will as we are Muslims and seems to cost a lot more. Here is an extract from what we have been told; "A Muslim can make a will here, but can only deal with one third of their estate, it is a different system that requires attendance at court, Muslim witnesses, done by local lawyers, entirely in Arabic and costs around AED 10,000." Has any one been here, done that? Or at the very least set up something to safeguard their children in case the worse should happen (temporary guardianship etc). - if so, could you please post some info on the best way to go about it.

I would also be interested to know what is a good rate that would be expected to pay for setting up a UAE will for someone who has not previously done one. Can anyone help? I've been told to expect it to cost around 3k, is that normal? TIa

Best buys; Quality car seat with idiotic base- makes taking baby in and out of the car very easy! Good, solid pram - I walked around a lot so needed one that was durable for the high Dubai pavements Worse buys / point less; Sun shades for baby - from 6months + but LO won't wear them Baby clothes as gifts (ask for money or specific things you will need), we were in the UK so clothes bought abroad may not suit the weather over here!

It depends on who you speak too I have seen staff say no and some say yes In all my years of travelling to Manchester I and my friend who is ex crew have never brought a stroller to the plane door for a passenger they have had to collect it next to the carousel As above for emirates! But they always have strollers available that you can use when you get off the plane! Unlike another airline (starts with Q)- they were absolutely shocking in providing any sort of assistance on my flight last week!

Thanks ladies, I ended up taking my LO to the Dubai London Clinic. I have to say they were very good, was seen more a less straight away and the doctor was very good. It's seems she has a viral fever & rash, it seems its doing the rounds at the moment. She must have picked it up from a play centre, I took her to on Tuesday. Thanks again, and here's hoping for a speedy recovery!

I think most parents know when a dr is needed or not. I don't always run off to see dr everytime my dd has a temp or a bug, rightly or wrongly. Kids can be up and down, and can also go down very suddenly. If you feel they need to be seen today I can't help with an open drop in, but have had excellent help at City out of hours, but she was really very sick. Hope your LO is ok. Thank you, emlsnre, that's exactly the reason why I didn't take her earlier. Thanks, may just give City a shot.

I am always pleasant to this lady, she is my preferred beautician, so could just be a cultural boundaries thing.... Oh & if you haven't experienced any border line comments, hang around a pharmacy for 5 mins and I'm sure you will be offered creams for "those spots or marks" on your face! Lol

The original post, reminds me of a comment the beautician made to me after I returned to her after having a baby. It was approximately 2 months after I had my baby, and to be honest I had lost most of the weight. The lady who I normally saw, said "ma'am, you are a little fat now" !!!!!!! I couldn't help but laugh, because I'm of a petite build and knew that I wasn't Fat at all! I'm pretty sure, she didn't mean it in a horrible way, it was just her way of saying things!

At that age she was getting up twice for milk, but it didn't bother me because I just wanted her to take some milk, she actually fed better at night - minimum fuss. At 13 months now, she still wakes once for a feed. She did have one good week where she slept through but has reverted back. :-(

My DD was really bad when it came to feeding, she would only drink 4oz every 4 hours but it would take me 2 hours to get the full 4oz down her! Unfortunately she still does not have more then 4 oz in a feed even though she is 13 months old. It does get easier once they start solids, because you can incorporate the formula milk into their solids. For example my DD has loved muesli since she began solids, so one feed is always muesli with a generous portion of formula milk. For DD she looked healthy and was doing ok weight wise, so was told by the doctor not to worry! Just make sure your baby, is not losing weight (other then the odd blip), and thing of it as a short term thing. Soon you will be able to start on solids, and hopefully it will get better!

Thoughts are with you- must be tough for everyone concerned. I've not read everyone's posts, but my suggestion would be to put a load of photos of your family together and creat captions and accompany it with songs that mean something to you! You could turn it into a light hearted thing... I did this a few years ago, for a friends pre wedding meal / hen party, and it went down really well.

I think the sugar content in petite filous, is a little on the high side. I have found a organic yogurt for babies called Glensik, which seems to have no added sugar (just natural) which my DD loves. I have only managed to find it in the big Spinneys (springs, town centre). But they don't always have it in stock. If you are near a Waitrose, try them as well, for other alternatives.

When ever we have had to send money to our UK bank account we use one of the Satwa currency exchange places, they exchange the money from AED to £'s then the next counter transfers it into our Uk account. Take a long your salary slip & passport. It's very easy to do.

I usually take one bottled of boiled water, and add the powder when i need it and just ask the emirates staff to warm it up for me. Also, the ready made cartons are very handy - so worth checking them out.

Since, there is a thread on the best high school, thought it would be interesting to see your thoughts on the best nurseries / primary schools (UK Curriculum) for kids from 3/4 onwards. I know, this depends on many things but generally speaking! P.s. please no acronyms (to help those of us less familiar with the schools) :-)

Yes there is a data package but I can't remember what it is. It's sufficient for me, and I use my mobile on the go a fair bit. I think the details are on their website, otherwise just pop into their offices (they have a big one in mall of the emirates) & I'm sure someone will be able to tell you what's currently available.

I have a Du contract. When I was looking, I found them to have the much better package. For example I have the 100aed package which includes 100 international and 100 local minutes, as well as 50 international and national texts. Also from experience i have found Du's customer service to be better then etisalat. Hth

You can either walk from Oxford road or get the bus. I'd suggest the bus, there will be one every few minutes taking you into Piccadilly and the free shuttle bus from Oxford road station to deansgate ( check if this still runs though).
