hi there, has anyone had a good experience with a western OBGYN recently in Dubai? I will be giving birth in City Hosp and need to find a good lady as soon as possible! Thanks

I've asked a friend who's given birth in both City and American. She said American seemed quite disorganised and the room was so big, she felt 'exposed' giving birth. When 'checking out', it took 5 hours as nobody was around to help them settle the bill etc. Whereas City seemed better run and the room was smaller, more hotel-like and she felt more comfortable. I think both hospitals should introduce you to their facilities if you ask them, but the general service seems to be better at City

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly! My insurance is with Nextcare and covers all hospitals but I think I'm going to go with City hospital as it seems to have the best reviews. Is anyone seeing any of the Docs there? List is here: http://www.mediclinic.ae/CityHospital/findaphysician.aspx?dname=&hid=10&dpid=25

Hi everyone, hope you don't mind me jumping into your conversation. I am about to start my 1st IVF after 3 failed IUIs. I noticed that you've mentioned freezing the embies.. I thought that was banned in the UAE? Please let me know if you know otherwise.. It'd be great to use a clinic which allows freezing. Thanks

DFGC has advised I do a HSG next week. I went to Medcare to book an appointment but they needed me to see the gynae first (575 dhs just for the consultation!) so I politely declined. Please could you advise on anywhere else I could try, who the Dr was, and what the cost is? I need somewhere that takes referrals so I don't have to see yet another Doctor who'll tell me what I already know. thanks in advance!

Hi everyone, I have been recommended to go see Dr Mohamed Ashraf (lives in India but visits Dubai every month at Al Taif Medical Centre). I called the clinic for costs - was told it's 1000 for IUI (seems cheap). Apparently the clinic is a bit old but he's an expert. Has anyone heard of him or the clinic? Thank you! Update: Went to see him a couple of months ago for an initial consultation - terrible clinic (from the dark ages), no specific appointments time could be made, everyone turned up around the same time and the queue to see him was ridiculous. He has us waiting in the corridor right outside his consultation room whilst there was another couple inside. Extremely unprofessional! He also diagnosed me with something I don't have (I got a 2nd opinion from Dr Wael at DFGC who's amazing). He rushed us in and out within a few mins, took our money and on to the next victims. DFGC on the other hand was the opposite experience. Dr Wael took almost 2 hours with us, we didn't feel rushed and he took time to go through our entire medical history to come up with a proper diagnosis. ... You get what you pay for! edited by LB79 on 26/03/2012
