We're going to be carpeting the bedrooms in our villa. Please let me know if you've any good experiences, prices per sq ft etc? I've had a look around Al Quoz but all the 'carpet' shops seem to sell rugs only.

There's a place in the technical/tv section of Geant at ibn battuta which is cheap and handy. Also sharaf DG have a technical team. The place in Virgin in mall of Emirates is awful ... Slow service and rubbish customer service.

They sometimes have Thai holy basil in Carrefour, mall of Emirates amongst all the other herbs. I've also seen it in the little supermarket next to the Thai restaurant on the corner.

HI Saggi, For the changing table, we bought a nice chest of drawers and placed the mat on top. That way, you can keep the drawers forever rather than having to sell a changing table in 2 years. The bath - easiest to use the bathroom sink when they're tiny enough to fit! Then we moved on to a baby bath from mothercare which we stand on the kitchen worktop so no need to bend over. Never ended up needing a nursing chair. I usually feed in the bed if it's the middle of the night (just prop myself up with pillows) and on the sofa if during the day. There was no space for a nursing chair and I'm glad I didn't buy one in the end.

My LO was breech from 27 weeks and never turned, despite me doing handstands and all sorts! It was disappointing to not be able to do a natural birth but in the end, a planned c-section was probably quite a relief as I knew exactly what was happening and when. 31 weeks is still early though - my friend's baby turned the right way at 37 weeks, so you still have time.

Hi kellyjane I posted an advert on dubizzle and also on expatwoman under the classifieds section - the response was actually overwhelming from both sites and I had to delete the ads after a few hours! I live in the marina so I think it was quite appealing as the metro is so easy. For the Springs, they might be put-off with the extra bus journey, however I'm sure you'll find someone. Make sure you think of loads of telephone-screening questions first. Don't bother to meet them if their English isn't good enough on the phone. Interviewing maids is time-consuming, but I was lucky enough to find a good one after meeting just 3 of them, as I ruled out so many on the phone beforehand. Good luck.

I used Dr George in Sept 2013 to deliver at City. He's excellent and his scanning equipment is all brand new, top of the range stuff so the 4D pics he takes are amazing (and he does them at each scan, included in the normal consultation fees). He's not covered under direct-billing with my insurance company (Arab Orient), they were only ever going to pay 80% of the total. Unfortunately I didn't realise this at the time but since trying to claim back my 80%, the insurance company base their repayments on 'what they deem is a reasonable cost' and unfortunately they feel Dr George is 'above average' so they paid us back way less than we were hoping. Even having said that, we would still go with Dr George again for our 2nd baby as we felt in safe hands with him and he's got a very relaxed, nice personality.

I had a c-section at City last week (planned). All went to schedule, I had Dr Kavita as the anaesthetist (extremely competent and made me feel relaxed). The midwives and nurses were all excellent in my opinion - all offering different tips for feeding etc. They offered skin to skin without me having to ask, and the baby never left my sight over the 4 days I was there. It almost felt like I was having a weekend away in a hotel, the service is so good! A tip: if you have Du at home, you can register for 'selfcare' before you leave home, use the same login at City Hospital and wifi is just 5 dhs/hr. I think it works out cheaper than buying Du credit at the shop downstairs.

Hi Zii, I've done IUI 3x and it didn't work (no reason ever found). It costs about 5k for the IUI including the drugs. I believe it's about 20% chance of getting pregnant each time and they recommend you do it 3-5 times before you try IVF. For some people it works 1st time. If you have a blocked tube, IUI would only work if you're ovulating from the non-blocked side. I also had the HCG and I didn't find it too bad. If you found it painful, I would say that indicates there was a blockage?? I was seeing Dr Wael at Dubai Fertility and Gynae Clinic in Healthcare City. He's a lovely guy from Egypt, really knows his stuff and because it's government run, he doesn't charge a fortune like the other places. However he also likes to be cautious and try everything before opting for IVF which can be frustrating when you've waited 2 yrs already.

I highly recommend Joseph from Aleena. Tel 050 252 9870. He comes to your house, measures up, has LOADS of material choices and the quality is excellent. It takes about a week to get your blinds fitted after you've chosen the material.

Mine was delivered the next day :-) http://me.cloudninehair.com edited by TAB on 14/08/2013 I got my Cloud Nine's from my hairdresser in Media City (Luke - 04 4462991). Thanks everyone. I looked at the previous thread, called a few companies and the quotes are as follows: Saniservice (came to do a check onsite before quoting and appeared extremely professional) - 3000 dhs. Quality Care - telephone quote 2400 dhs Epsco - telephone quote 2250 dhs, so based on the strong recommendations I will go with them.

Speaking as a Brit passport holder, you can get additional pages added but you have to send the passport to Germany and it can take about 6 wks to get it back. You keep your old passport, just with fresh pages inside.

Visa runs are a better idea than changing residency visas, otherwise you'd have to go through all the medical, paperwork, Emirates ID finger printing etc twice and obviously twice the cost. You can pay around 650 dhs at the immigration centre close to the Trade Centre roundabout to extend the monthly visa but you can only do that once, then you have to do a visa run again (and then reapply for an extension again if you want). Visa runs to Hatta now cost around 200 dhs I think.

Hi All, I had a miracle this week, i got positive on HPT (tested 4 times) and got positive in Bloodtest too. Why I said miracle because I have anxiety problem and conceiving was really difficult in my condition. Anyway God is so Good and He answered our prayers. I went to see OB last night although I told her about my issue, she still convinced me to do internal scan, which i tried to tolerate, but eventually unsuccessful because of the pain. Now i'm schedule for the pelvic scan. The situation was really awkward. I felt embarrassed and hurt. I wanted to change OB but dont want to go through that situation again. Is there really a way not to have this internal scan, or is it really necessary? I dont want to compromise my baby's health but at the same time I also need to feel secure and safe. DH is really supportive but since this is our first baby, we really wanted to do what is proper. Please advise. Lovingwife Congratulations that you're pregnant! Afraid to say that being pregnant means you'll have to undergo a number of internal scans. They're not that bad, you just need to relax. You have to put the baby first and deal with some uncomfortable procedures for the next 9 months now. Good luck!

Hello Ladies, Does anyone have any experience with Dr George at the new Genesis Perinatal clinic? This new clinic has opened recently but he is said to have worked at the American Hospital previously... would really appreciate any insights. Thanks! Yes I met Dr George a couple of weeks ago and thought he was great. really gentle, knows his stuff, seems very calm. I've asked him to deliver my baby at City in Sept.

I had a laproscopy on my insurance as my doc put some other 'issue' down (like internal pain or something). I only had to pay AED 5k to cover 'doctor's fees' whatever that is. I also had a hysteroscopy which cost AED 5k in total (including general anaesthetic) with Dr Wael at Dubai Gynae and Fertility Clinic a month prior to starting IVF as he wanted to do a 'small scratch' on the inside of the uterus as apparently it helps the embryo stick. I didn't even need to go through with IVF after all because after 3 yrs of trying, the scratch-thing had worked and I got pregnant naturally!

You could also consider Dr Wael at Dubai Fertility and Gynae Clinic in Healthcare City. It's a government clinic and attracts a lot of local ladies, service can be slow but I think it's a little cheaper than the other places. Dr Wael is very patient, he takes about 1.5 hours in your 1st meeting to go through you & husband's life/medical history. He's very caring, extremely thorough, and is a real academic. He knows all the latest technique and does a lot of studies himself. You get the feeling you're not just a number as the money you're paying isn't going directly into his pocket like the other private clinics who treat you like you're just on a conveyor belt. Booking an appointment (just getting them to answer the phone) is not easy, they certainly have a bit of a local mentality, however if you persevere with the slow service, they're really great. Tel 04 4393832.

Hi ladies congratulations to you all on your lovely bumps. I am 18w2d preggers and I will be moving to Dubai by July with the hubby. That means I will be approximately 7+ months preggers by then and will have to quickly peruse the landscape. I would love to meet other expectant moms. I am due September 30. Can anyone share some names of good high risk OBGYN's? I am looking at American Hospital for delivery but I am open to other facilities. Will also need any general advice on other relevant topics like preggerlates, yoga, where to live etc. I am moving from Qatar. Thank you in advance for your efforts. edited by Grateful on 01/05/2013 Hi Grateful, I'm going to go to City Hospital. It seems to have the better reviews at the moment. Using a guy called Dr George Michailidis who works in a clinic next door and deals with very high risk pregnancies. I met him last week and felt very safe with him. I'm having a girl! Thought it was a boy so was very surprised!

Congratulations! You should go and see any doc for now as you need to prove to the insurance company that you're now pregnant so any treatment you may need is covered. The doc will do a quick blood test to confirm it. Then after a few weeks you should start researching which Obgyn you want to go with and make an appointment with them. Good luck!

Dr George's place doesn't do direct billing with insurance companies but I can fill out the forms and claim mine back (Arab Orient Nextcare) . Bit of a pain but if he's as good as everyone says, then it's worth it. I've asked for a price list, so will post on here if I get it.

Britt also recommended Dr George Michailidis who now has his own clinic next door to City, so I've booked my 20 wk scan with him. I'm also due in Sept

Hey Everyone. I am in my 24th week. Was so glad to have got the appointment with Dr. Britt Clausson at City Hospital but to my dismay she informed me that she won't in Dubai at the time of my delivery which will be end of May. So, she has reffered me to Dr. Anne Phillip who is absolutely new at City so I have no idea how is she...Any reviews will be highly appreciated. Thanks I'm also keen to know! Britt is on holiday for my 12 week scan, Elsa isn't taking patients until JULY! I was offered an appointment with Anne...
