Hello and thank you for the recommendation. Can you tell me which company he work for please. I have one quote already and Dubai Upholstery are coming to quote also. Really appreciate any feedba...
Dubai Upholstery came today and the sales person was called Ali.... I wonder if it's the same person you recommended?? They are nearly 2k more expensive than my first quote but the material was better and the workmanship looks very good too. Unfortunately, having stated in my What's App to them I only wanted the sales person to bring 'Natural' fabric swatches Ali arrived with an extremely limited choice and out of 8 books of swatches only 6 swatches were Natural. They have now requested we go to visit their showroom to view the fabric which is not home visit for selection and puts us at risk for our age(nearly 70 years).

Is there any reason you're doing it before you move? Or do you mean you're leaving temporarily and going back? If you're moving any decent distance, I'd probably suggest waiting until after you mov...
Relocating back to the UK. It's so much cheaper to have furniture reupholstered in Dubai than back in the UK. Also, the workmanship is better and far quicker. We've talked to our shippers who advise that our furniture will be wrapped therefore, will not be a problem getting dirty along the journey. We were considering having it cleaned but there's a risk of mould/mildew during the long, hot and humid journey. We've been quoted 5k AED to a 3+2+2 sofa set and 8 dining chairs. The equivalent to 1k GBP. We couldn't buy a new sofa for that in the UK.

Enelle sports bra. Nothing even comes close. I am a 30GG-H and I can trampoline in it without the hint of a wobble. This is highly functional sports garment not fixated on how it looks but focuses on reducing breast movement to the minimum. It has to be ordered from overseas though. http://www.amazon.com/Enell-High-Impact-Sports-Bra/dp/B000IWEJDE Hi Chocobella, Tried most sports bra's but haven't tried this one. The style and design is also important for me and the Enelle is not attractive at all, I would feel like a 'gym granny' Take a look at the Panache Sports bra..... the support is amazing, the colours are great and it's young looking. Most of all it keeps the girls where they should be (even at 60)!! http://www.panache-lingerie.com/us/brands/panache-sport

My dilema is what to do with: Brand new, still with labels attached undies Matching sets of M&S and Debenhams Truly gorgeous and very pretty but unfortunately I have been buying the wrong size so have been left with so many sets which I have purchased to match a certain outfit. There is even an amazing honeymoon set with crystals by Janet Reger (still with price labels) I just cannot bear to throw them away but don't know what to do with them either!! They are mostly sizes 38E or 34G I was re-fitted last year and found that I am a 34FF Can anyone suggest what to do with these. Brand New still with labels

I use M&S and Nike I am an E Cup if that helps :-) Hi Sarah, I also used to buy M&S size E (they don't go any larger). When I was sized by TKD I was actually a 34FF!! The 34FF made a huge difference to my workouts in the gym, 'the girls' weren't flying all over any more but the biggest surprise is that I discovered I actually had a WAIST (covered previously by 'the girls'). What a huge difference.

Again, TKD in Town centre. The Panache Sports Bra is amazing, the small clip at the back turn the bra into a racer back (great for hiding those ugly straps). The best thing is that TKD will size you (discreetly). We often get the size wrong, if that happens it doesn't matter what style you get from what store it will not give you support. Get sized by a professional. TKD are the only Sports accredited stores in Dubai. The changing room is lovely with a robe if you are quite shy (like me). You can change then unlock the door and ask them to check how it fits. They will go through a number of routines with you to establish the fit so you know how your bra should fit. I would not go anywhere else now.... I don't buy as many sets as when I used to from M&S and Debenhams but what I buy I wear because it FITS and is COMFORTABLE. No contest..... hope this helps

I stopped shopping there for the same reason..... A customer REFUND is a refund to the customer either by cash or put back on the customers credit card. The way these cards work is that the customer is NOT getting the REFUND either by cash or returned to their credit cards. The amount is sitting in THEIR account!! What you get is a piece of plastic whilst your money is in their account earning interest!! Think of how many customers haven't worked this out yet and how much interest that amounts to.... good for business but not so good for the customers!! The only way a customer would benefit is if you use the card immediately to purchase something else, then the amount goes straight back to you. edited by LDC on 14/04/2013

Just had my fiance move out & leave me today, upset you could say. So now I have a beautiful Tiffany Engagement Ring up for sale... any takers or anyone know of where I can sell it. :( If it's Tiffany then it's bound to be a good diamond. Take it to the Gold & Diamond souq and have it re-set into a necklace or buy another stone and you have a beautiful pair of earings. He may just be getting cold feet and will re-think his move later. If so then you can always put it back in the Tiffany setting. Hope this helps.....

Ladies, We really need your help. My daughter's German Shepherd dog (Riley) ran out of their gate in Fintas chasing some feral cats. She ran out straight away after him but he's very fast and disappeared out of sight. He's been gone since Friday and hasn't returned home. He's a big softy and a loved family pet, the kids are devastated. They are doing everything they can and I have also told them I will send to any contacts that we have in Kuwait so anything you can do to help would be great. The shelters think that because he's such a good looking dog and is noticeably a full pedigree that there is a strong possibility that the Asian labourers have picked him up to sell on so they can make some money. He wouldn't make a fighting dog as he's too soft but he's very noisy and barks at strangers so whoever has him will lose their patience with him very soon. If you could pass on this email and photo all your friends and colleagues and ask them to do likewise, hopefully he should eventually turn up. My daughters contact details are listed in the link below. http://paws-kuwait.org/blog/lost/riley-lost-german-shepherd-fintas-area/ Thank you for your help, we appreciate any help you can give to help find Riley. Thank you and Regards,

My husband and I went on Thursday evening at the Imax cinema. Wasn't too crowded, we phoned online then collected our tickets an hour prior to the film. We were really excited and looking forward to the film. Verdict: OK.... Graphics are brilliant, a little tedious in parts due to the long battles. That's all I can say really, even my DH was disappointed. It's one of those films you have to see for the sake of it.

A strong jet force water gun does the trick. Cats don't like a soaking!! Even if it runs the jet water gun will still reach it. Eventually, it will learn not to come in. This is the most humane way we have stopped feral cats coming in to our villa.

Wow.... now wonder they have moved to a larger salon. It appears we all go there... or are planning too. I was there last week for the 1st time after recommendations from this site. Sharon did my cut, colour etc. She spent a good deal of time with me talking through things over and then I just let her do what she wanted. Came out darker with lots of beautiful high and low lights, love it!! It really has made such a huge difference, gave me a kick up the ....... feel totally envigorated, look much younger and I've even started exercising again. That's huge!!

I have a pop up tent I can sell you. Used it once, (word of honor). Purchased from Picnico on the Beach Road. We camp all the time and are constantly buying new tents to see what works best for us. We still have another 4 besides the Pop Up. Yes, there are snakes, spiders and scorpions but they are more afraid of you and will only bit or sting if surprised. Don't camp near bushes and wear something sensible on your feet. Usually, the heavy tread of your feet will have them scampering away. Most creepy crawlies tend to run and hide for shelter. Definitely worth the experience, camping. Night sky, early mornings and camp fire with friends, cannot beat it at this time of year.

If you want to recover a leather suite try 'The Leather Doctor' contact either Vishal or Roy. 971 52 985 3229 The leather they use is Italian and beautiful for a fraction of the price you would buy for a new suite. It's an Australian technology/method and they say they can match any leather colour you give them. They had just finished a 'The One' sofa in a Claret coloured leather, beautiful!! They also repair, condition and recolour. Furniture, Vehicles, Yachts and Aircraft. They cleaned my leather vehicle seats in my Range Rover and it was unbelievable how clean it came up. They are located in Al Quoz just behind Al Tayer Motors. Hope this helps.

This is so very sad but I have to say that over the years this has happened to so many people in Dubai, many have tried to stay here on their own and not managed it. The problem is everything depends on 'the visa' It has grown more difficult over the last few years as you now need an ID Card which you cannot get without a visa. The ID is required to register a vehicle, have a phone and open a bank account. As soon as your current visa is cancelled your ID is also cancelled, makes it all very difficult to stay here now. It is also so expensive if the employer doesn't pay the 'expat package' eg: School fees, Insurance, Medical, Villa. Would your occupational field provide the financial expat package to support yourself and your children? I have also heard that to start up a company you now need to rent office space. A friend of mine did the RAK businees set up and this year he has been told that he now has to rent office space, the cost of office space is very expensive which has made his business not economically viable now. Another thing to consider is that if you do manage to start a business and anything goes wrong financially then you cannot just declare bankruptcy here they have a very harsh way of settling matters. You really need to think long and hard about this, don't rush into anything without sitting down and making honest calculations. Remember also, wherever your home country is at least you know that you are a National there and will have benefits to fall back on, not the same here. It sounds as though your emotions are running high at the moment (which they would be) and you are digging your heels in trying to stay, just make sure you are doing what is right for you and your children long term. I wonder if there are any other ladies that use this forum that have been through a similar experience and have managed to stay? Perhaps they could give you ideas how they managed it? Hoping everything works out for you. The ladies on this forum are right. Any person (cannot call him a man) that would not support his wife and and children does not deserve your time and effort. Wave him goodbye and say you are glad to see the back of him. Unfortunately, it's the children that suffer most by 'DH's' selfish behaviour.

Hi, I am new to expatwoman and I am not sure if this subject has been discussed earlier. I have enrolled my 3yo daughter into a nursery and I need to provide her a national dress for her party coming week. Since she is Scottish, I am looking for a tartan dress or at least fabric for her in Dubai. Any suggestions will be appreciated as I am running out of time. Thanx If you go into the Sun Sand and Sports outlet behind the Garden centre, go to the childrens Holister section right at the back of the shop and you will see plaid childrens skirts. Hope this helps Hi LDC, Thanx a lot for the help. I will give it a try and fingers crossed :) Just looked online, http:/Images-of-Scotland---Young-Girl-in-Traditional-Scottish Dress. Holister skirt would work perfectly, just use plain white knee length socks and tie black laces in a criss cross fashion from the shoe up to the top of the sock. Use a beret for the hat and put a few feather in the side. Use a waistcoat with a fussy white blouse underneath, the black shoes you will probably have already. For the sash anything wide draped across the body. Final touches: A small leather pouch around the body used as a sporan and not forgetting the important flagstaff and bagpipes.

One thing to remember when S&S (ing) from the UK is to try and get a tracking number from the company you order from. Aramex have told me that they track items by courier or post office tracking number. If a company sends by normal UK mail it is very difficult for Aramex to track and your parcel can be sat in Aramex House in Slough for weeks (even months). Aramex are looking at this as many companies send items by standard UK Mail without a tracking number. I have suggested that they could also set their system with an option to track by date and address. Hope this helps....

Thanks for the response and I can really appreciate what a difficult job it must be. What I cannot understand is how this benefits the customer!! Surely, when the customers are fed up with not getting a proper response or with poor customer service they will move on to another company that provides a better contact service. It just doesn't make sense to me, but more and more companies seem to be doing business this way. Is there someone that can explain the logic in this?? Guess it depends if the company has a monopoly! DS also says he has a share of 'old dears' who will keep him on line as long as they can because they are so pleased to be talking to anyone in their lonely days-and there is a fine line between keeping to the 4 minute allocated time per customer and not giving great customer service (doesn't help that he is soft hearted!). If he takes too long he is in trouble with his supervisor-if the customer feels they are being rushed they can complain........ It's the fact that more often than not a 'call centre' person cannot answer the question you have, you are then left with nowhere to go as the call centre is not allowed to give out the company office number and the company website number just throws you back to the call centre number and you end up going round in circles getting nowhere!! Except pulling your hair out with frustration. Perhaps this thread is a lesson to the companies that use such tactics in business that in the end they will lose their customers.

Timberland in the Sun, Sand and Sports Outlet. I picked up my Timberlands for 120 Dirhams, they are the tradional ankle boot. If you want a more 'ladylike' pair they also have the full length leather one's. Really good leather and very comfortable.

Hi Sumi, Am trying to find someone who has purchased the Vibran Five Fingers (Barefoot Running shoes) Am contemplating buying a pair but so far haven't found anyone that can recommend them in the UAE. There is a great new track that runs from the Bab Al Sams road all around that area. It's a cycling track but if you pick the right day you could also go for a run on that (the cyclists are going to kill me for this post)

I went to the Free Zone in Jebel Ali, no queue there at 09:30 for re-registering. There was however another queue at the next counter that was extremely long (not sure what is was for). My mobile has always been in my name. When I handed my forms in to re-register 'my' phone they took the details and gave me the forms back. 'My' phone number has now been listed as my husbands second number. What's mine is his!! LOL

Perhaps I'm missing the concept of a call centre. How do these 'call centres' actually benefit the customer?? Over the last few years companies that I used to be able to ring up and ask a question have now taken to only putting their 'call centre' number on their websites. When and 'if' you manage to get someone to answer the call centre number without the pre-recorded message advising of how busy they are and that you will be on hold and hold and still holding!! Someone eventually answers and cannot help you at all and you ask for the number of the main office..... sorry, I'm not allowed to give that out. This is a company who we pay a lot of money to every year to provide a service and we are unable to speak to direct!! Then there's the financial 'call centre' that the banks use. What security backing/checks are in place to ensure our private and confidential info. with the call centre's. Ever tried using a 'call centre' to book a vacation Your comments/thoughts .......

All of the below is very good advice. Also check out how you are going to pay for your stay and what currency to take. We had problems in a well known luxury beach resort when paying our final bill by C.C on check out. The transaction was declined by our Dubai bank as Zanzibar wasn't a secure source!! We actually called our local Dubai bank to confirm we were in Z. and we were trying to pay our final bill to check out and board a plane back to Dubai, it made no difference! We have an excellent credit rating and have been with the bank for many years and still it made no difference. We scraped together the bill by using all our spare cash in different currencies. A lesson learned!!

I've had one speeding fine in 23 years in Dubai. Caught out on the Dubai Mall flyover going to Garhoud, speed limit is low here. Have you ever noticed the 'snail' in the middle lane? As you go past him/her take a quick look and you can bet that he or she is either texting or on the phone. Even saw a chap reading the paper with it spread over the wheel a few weeks ago. Tankers, buses and lorries are worse try going to church at Jebal Ali on Friday and you are risking your life as the buses fly past you out of lane.

Dr. Rustom, Skin Clinic - http://www.skin-and-laser.com/ He is renowned in Dubai, not just a doctor but a specialised/registered Dermatologist. There are no frills with him, if it's nothing to worry about he'll tell you straight. Will take the time to answer questions and you can also get small samples free. Not cheap at 450 per visit but very good.

There is a legal requirement as to the hours construction can operate. It is supposed to be there to protect residents from all night construction. If the construction noise in you opinion is excessive try looking at the contractor and giving them a call. I have seen balcony covers in Tchibo in the Outlet Mall and Ibn Batutta Mall. Hope this helps...

The rat theory sounds right... the Gardens is full of rats that scuttle through the walls. Rats are drawn to babies as they always smell of milk and food that's probably why it all started when the baby came to your home. As you were sleeping against a wall then there would have been a good chance the squealing noises were coming from inside the wall not the cats, but cats do make wheezing noises when they sleep too. The dogs and cats would react to the close proximity of the rats inside that wall. They were probably squealing with frustration inside the wall trying to get to the baby thinking they had found a source of food or drink with the smell of milk. Buildings always creak and groan when they are cooling down and heating up. The Gardens is also built on unsettled ground, there used to be tunnels underneath that lead to the beach, famously used by the British soldiers many, many years ago. If anyone remembers the 'Bat Cave' area you would always find only British military stuff there. Hope this helps ease the mind a little. edited by LDC on 10/10/2012
