That BM is high in sugar and yes she also stated that by giving her too much bm at this point I could be setting her up for obesity and diabetes later in life. ! You should have told her that, surely, she received received too much breastmilk when she was a baby, that' s why She is obese ! lol ( joke) What a stupid joke! Pathetic actually. I agree. I was quite disgusted actually. To D.babe and GreenQueen, did Cecile cite any of the medical literature that she based her advice on? Just curious...

Goodness me. Cecile is like any business in that you will have people who are extremely happy with her and those who are not. I have some friends who have seen Cecile and they absolutely love her. She has done wonders for their sleep. In fixing their sleep the babies are so much happier and so are the mothers! People can have their strong opinions about Cecile but when someone just goes off attacking the woman at every chance then I think that is uncalled for. Yes, give your opinion but to just continuously attack the woman is just not right. And the fact that she IS successfully helping hundreds of mothers and babies, in my opinion, speaks volumes about her. I agree. It is obvious that opinion towards her is polarised, you love her fine. You hate well, fine too. But no need to bash the woman at every opportunity particularly when the thread doesn't even call for it. All the OP wanted was to hear from people who have used Cecile's sleep training advice and how successful/unsuccessful it was. As for me, I used Cecile over a period of 3 years for my two girls. Due to Ceci's advice I managed to exclusively BF my first for two years and exclusively pump for DD2 for 7 months and counting. I don't know what advice she's told D.Babe's friend, but with me Ceci was the biggest BF support for me. I do know she supports introducing solids by six months max, doesn't care how whether it's BLW or spoonfeedng, but she does believe that the 6 month to 18 month window is an important age to help babies acquire their feeding skills. This infamous CIO expert was the one who actually advised me against sleeptraining my DD1 at 2.5 years because she felt with all that was going on, it wasn't the right solution for us. DD1 still wakes up a lot at night and even co sleeps with us a few times a week. I know I sound like a broken record now, but what that woman did to our family was invaluable. She was probably the one who kept me from having a nervous breakdown when things were at their worst with DD2. She even insisted on visiting us every week for months until she was 100% certain that both myself and DD2 (who was premature and has a feeding aversion) was all right, even after our package with her expired. Free. She refused to charge me although she was forgoing meeting with paying clients because she was concerned about me and the baby. Now that is what is truly called a labour of love. I will only ever have good things to say about ceci

Are there any food allergies in the family? In addition to the loose stools and wind, does your LO have eczema, a red ring around his bum hole? Does he have mucus in his stool? If he does, it could be that your LO is intolerant to some of the foods you are eating which is causing the loose stools and wind, the most common of which is milk and soy proteins (milk soy protein intolerance or MSPI). Try to cut out all dairy and soy protein from your diet (I know this is very hard) and see if this makes a difference. You will have to be patient though, it may take 1 to 2 weeks for the milk/soy proteins to leave your system and another 1 to 2 weeks to notice a difference in your LO. If that doesn't work and the same symptoms persist then you may have to go on an elimination diet and omit the top 8 offending foods: milk, soy, corn, eggs, wheat, shellfish, nuts and additives, and try that for another 2 to 4 weeks. If it is an intolerance, you should see an improvement in your LO's "colicy" symptoms. Then you can reintroduce the eliminated foods, one at a time over a 1/2 week period and see if it causes a reaction in your LO. Through trial and error, you should find out which are the offending foods which are to be avoided, however trying to test reintroducing them every once in a while to see if your LO has outgrown his intolerances. The good news is that by age two most children do. HTH

Dubaicat replied : He was only 7 or 8 months at the time . Does sleep training affect a successfull breastfeeding as the baby is left couple a hours without any feed ? I know quite a few mothers who's LO's sleep through the night (not necessarily all have been sleep trained) and who have managed to breastfeed for two years. BF doesn't mean having to feed continuously day and night. If that were the case, I think alot of us breastfeeding mums would have given up a long time ago! Feeding every two/three hours around the clock is only necessary in the early months to establish supply. Once that is done and the baby is taking in most of his nutrition during the day, night feeds can be safely dropped.

Best thing to do is get a GP sort it out for you with the freeze dry thing. If it doesn't go the first time round, go for a repeat treatment the second it appears. Should be sorted then.

Big Hugs Jampoos! I know what a difficult time this must be for you! I had a CVS procedure done at the FMC. I too didn't have Dr. Mirza as he was unavailable at the time and saw the available consultant instead. All I can say he was beyond professional. As M&S said, the FMC is a standard of excellence in the region. All the staff there are experts in their fields, and highly capable. If they weren't they wouldn't be working for FMC in the first place. Good luck. xxx

Also it sounds like you've set up a good routine for him which is great. Where possible stick to DS's routine, esp. the bath and bedtime wind down. As you probably well know toddlers thrive on routine. Plus it sounds like your DH is a hands on kind of dad who'll be there to step to the plate. As long as you have a support system in place for your DS, he'll be fine. Toddlers at that age have no conception of time. They tend to just live in the moment. So although you know you'll be gone for two weeks he won't. He'll probably only realise you've been gone once you come back!

I don't know if I have any advice per se, but I can tell you this. Late last year I had to spend over 10 days in hospital for my DD2's preterm labour and subsequent delivery, and was away from DD1 throughout this time. I too thought that DD1 would not be able to cope with my absence particularly since until that time I was the only one who had put her to sleep at night. She also happened to be particularly clingy to me. Well, I can tell you this, our LO's are more resilient than we ever give them credit for. DD1 settled into a new bedtime routine with DH. He never had any issues settling her and more importantly DD1 did not seem to be affected at all by the separation. I think I took it harder than she did! So trust me when I say, your DS will cope just fine. You'll probably find it harder than he will! Still it's a rough patch for you all. My heart goes out to you and I wish your little DD a very speedy recovery.

At this stage, most exercise will be okay. The only thing you should probably be wary of is making sure you don't overheat, so wear cool clothing throughout, take lots of breaks and drink cold water. Keeping your body around your ideal temperature should maximise your chances of fertilisation and implantation and reduce the risk of miscarriage. Ideally you should pace yourself such that your heart rate does not go beyond 140 bpm. If you don't have one already, I suggest you buy yourself a heart rate monitor; it will be invaluable for you throughout your pregnancy (inshallah!), as the 140 bpm rule will apply throughout. Once you progress in your pregnancy and reach month 4, you will then have to apply further limitations on your exercise regimen i.e. don't carry weights more than 25 lb, don't do exercises lying on your back, avoid all abdominal exercises (e.g. crunches etc.), avoid stretching positions that could lead to injuries e.g. the bridge, avoid high impact cardio such as running, and so on.

KC, JMO, but instead of buying heaps of really cheap books, I would rather invest in a few solid classics. It'll make your move less cumbersome for one. But the classics are in fact that because no matter how many times you read them to your LO, they will still want more and more of them. It is not unheard of for my DD to ask for the same book to be read to her five times or more every day for months on end with a really good classic. I certainly don't get that response from her from a mediocre one.

ah I see. I usually just pick up the lean ground beef. That unfortunately is a problem with cuts of meat. Less fat usually ends up being less tender. Looks like I will have to buy another 1 kg of meat - the low fat or even full fat version and redo. When I normally use those the meat balls turn out well.

I normally use the Nigella Lawson recipe for meatballs, and they turn out divinely soft and melt in your mouth. This time round, they're all chewy. They still taste great, but certainly not the crowd pleaser they should be. I used rump steak this time. Is that where I went wrong? I normally bake them in the oven with a touch of EVOO, if I shallow fry them will they turn better? Or should I try another batch made from another cut of meat? DD's 3rd birthday is this weekend, and we aim to serve to please! TIA edited by lemondrops on 27/06/2011

Same thing happened to me in Choithrams and it wasn't reduced price! Plus it happened to me when I bought fresh pasta, strawberries and other fresh fruit. The only way I found you can avoid it is inspect the packet very very well.... jiggle it about and have a good look through and if you can open it (i.e. the strawberry packs) then do so and inspect every piece.

Thanks for the replies ladies. I didn't even consider the type of additives that would be in it. Maybe I should stick to just Cochineal red and hope to pass it off. On another note, I was also planning to decorate with coloured sprinkles but when I checked the list of ingredients it had pretty much every food colouring on the list to avoid! So if anyone knows if I can get some better cake alternative doecrations please let me know!

What are you colouring? Cochineal (sp) the red food colouring added to white icing just a teeny tiny bit makes it pink. Does that help at all? Sorry, not seen pink any where. I'm making pink frosting for DD's birthday cake, so using white frosting and adding the colouring. Have also read about using a drop of red, but wasn't too sure how it would turn out as I've noticed that my frosting isn't exactly pure white.

@ meals I will read up on the double pump...thank you! @spamm the hospital grade pumps are rather noisy and bulky...I want something compact which I can use anywhere.. @guinness is this the double electric? what price? I am def interested! @kiwispiers I have a lot of extra bottles from medela..hence am very inclined to try the second hand option..massive cost difference as well! Thank you for your inputs ladies :) Hi Tanya, I have a medala pump n style for sale if you're interested. It's mobile which means you can even use at work, which I used to do for DD1. Email me at lama dot cookson at gmail dot com, if interested. I also have new tubing (never opened) available to go with plus extra bottles/funnels etc, but you would need to pick those up when I'm done pumping in about a month from now. Regardless whether you decide on the pump n style or not, those are free if you want them. However, if it were up to me and cost was not a factor, I would go with the freestyle, because it means you can pump anywhere and everywhere, and whilst doing odd jobs around the house and holding your LO. It may seem not important now, but as they get older they get more demanding and want more of your time, so it becomes harder to pump sat away from them when they demand so much of your time, wanting to be held, etc. The good news I found however is that once supply is established I didn't have to pump as frequently, and I was able to drop the middle of the night pumps. The freestyle is also good because like the pump n style they are mobile and can be taken to work. If your planning on pumping at work then the pump n style and the freestyle are really your only two options. edited by lemondrops on 23/06/2011

We had 1 hr 45 min PE lessons in school. It made more sense as we had to change into our PE kit at the beginning of the lesson and back in our uniform at the end of the lesson. So having a double PE lesson (i.e. two lessons back to back) meant less time was spent changing warming up etc. I personally see no harm in it, espicially when you factor in a good four/five months of the school year happen during autumn/winter when the weather is quite pleasant. The school will only have to make certain arrangements for the remaining two/three months.

salome, i have always largely agreed with what you say..as there has been strong science behind it but i think most of the posters get offended with your direct ( and sometimes very dramatic/offensive/scary) posts which mince no words... exactly, it is fine to explain your views (hopefully), I just think some of the back and forth has become a bit personal which gets in the way of the overall message. I agree. If we left out claims that border on the hysterics and the personal attacks on others from both sides of the fence, maybe we'd be able to have a very interesting discussion! I also want to say that I never doubted Salome having the best or truest of intentions with her posts, and that it was never for the purpose of promoting her own agenda/business at the expense of others, which some posters have insinuated. This is why I had originally written in an earlier post that I thought some of the things she said did more to harm her than others. I think she has an important message to say. She'll even be surprised how many would agree with her including myself. edited by lemondrops on 22/06/2011

Hopefully you'll get more answers this time. and whenever in doubt, just look at your beautiful healthy little baby boy. Salome, do you have anything more than "maybe" and "other medical professionals"? If not, your post sounds more like the slanderous vitriol of a Sunday tabloid than that of a medical professional, JMO. IMO, that post does more to hurt and discredit you, than it does Cecile, and I would delete it. ETA I also know of medical professionals who have worked with Cecile both inside and outside a particular private hospital in Dubai and have nothing but good things to say about her. No one is saying you need to approve of her approach or philosophy but there is certainly no need to slander her in the manner you have. edited by lemondrops on 21/06/2011

I personally don't understand why this has turned to a Cecile bashing thread, but just to put my two fils in, I owe Cecile a huge debt. If it wasn't for Cecile I wouldn't have breastfed DD1 for two years or managed to exclusively pump BM for my DD2 for the seven months and still going strong. I also wouldn't have stopped for a moment to look after myself or consulted with a doctor for my PND, which she encouraged me to do. I have also never found Cecile to apply a one size fits all philosophy. I can tell you for my DD2 who was born premature, she advised me on feeding her every three hours and waking her up for feeds until she was well above 5 kg. With DD1, she advised me to feed on demand and do away with scheduled feedings - in fact I continued to demand feed DD1 day and night until she was a little over two years old. Two totally different approaches for two very different babies. I can also tell you from personal experience Cecile genuinely cares about the mothers and babies under her charge and goes well beyond call of duty to help. Not everyone may agree with her approach, I certainly don't when it comes to CIO for example, but her heart is genuinely in the right place, and she has provided invaluable advice and support to numerous mothers over the years. And to add to the argument that babies/newborns have to nurse through the night, I'm going to quote something from the Dr. Jack Newman website (although I hope this isn't taken out of context): [i'>"There is no evidence that a healthy full term newborn must feed every three hours (or two hours, or whatever) during the first few days. There is no evidence that they will develop low blood sugars if they don’t feed every three hours (the whole issue of low blood sugars has become a mass hysteria in many postpartum areas which, like all hysterias, results from a grain of truth, perhaps, but actually causes more problems than it prevents"[/i'> edited by lemondrops on 20/06/2011

Also just to add, it sounds like your LO has Milk Soy Protein Intolerance (google MSPI there's load of info on the web). He's basically allergic to dairy and potentially soy proteins, hence why he fares so much better on the HA formulas. The allergy does not extend to oils such as fish oil and soy oil, as the offending critters are in the proteins themselves and not the oils. Of course some LO's do better some some types of HA formulas more than others. I have even heard of cases were babies respond differently to the same brand of formula but manufactured in different countries! Only trial and error will tell.

Twin_butterfly, I found neocate in the pharmacy that's located in the Park n Shop strip mall (the name eludes me). I bought one can, and at the time they also had another two cans. Also second what Sant said. Hypoallergenic formulas have partially hydrolised milk proteins. I would try them before going on Neocate, which is a completely hydrolised or elemental formula but I hear is supposed to taste awful.

Meals, I'm so sorry to hear that things are such a struggle :( It must be a relief to see him taking more from the bottle but what a hassle for you! I wouldn't decide on changing things just yet though. Wait until his next weigh in, and see if he's just replacing breastfeeds for bottle feeds. If that's the case, then you can simplify your life again and just go with one. and to add to KW excellent post: There was also the village night nurse. Not all mothers have excellent supply, and many relied on night nurses to nourish their babies if they couldn't breastfeed. edited by lemondrops on 20/06/2011

Cinemas are missing a trick here....chaperoned film watching for kids. If mummy or daddy can't be bothered to spend time with their kids at the cinema then cinemas could have chaperones for hire to sit with the kids. Discounts for group bookings / parties etc. Why? Just drop the kids off with the maid!
