If you're relatively small up there, I have a pump ease bra available to good home. Never used as I didn't like it. Much preferred my cut up version!

What about the hospitals LD. I know City Hospital had some pretty dodgy ones and not a huge amount of it either. Thanks Meals! Yes, I was thinking of that as an option. But I also feel that a place like City should be able to replacing its baby clothes every once in a while. I suppose though at least if I use the hospital route, then I know it will get used.

I found some at favourite things Marina Mall. with the rigid neckline. I bought mine from a local shopping website called babysouk.com, which they'll deliver to your home. http://www.babysouk.com/index.php?page=product_display&cid=4&sid=20&submenuheader=3

Also how about Dr. Brown's Preemie nipples? I am more than happy to order them online for you if you don't have a shop and ship account. They will take about a week to ten days to arrive... http://www.amazon.com/Dr-Browns-Natural-Preemie-Standard/dp/B000096QK4/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

Tania, they may be disposable, but I checked with a lactation consultant and it's okay to reuse as long as they're sterilised. I found that you can reuse the disposable latex teats many more times if they are cold sterilised i.e. in a milton sterlising solution rather than heat sterilised. It seems the heat damages them more quickly.

tania may I perhaps suggest that if you have your other little twin still in hospital that you take in whichever teat and bottle you will be using at home and start them on it prior to leaving to ensure they're used to the new change too. spot on meals. Wish I had done this with DD at the hospital. Tania you have mail.

Tania, I have loads of Similac disposable teats (like the ones used at Al Wasl - the yellow ones not the red ones though). They fit on standard size bottles, you're more than welcome to them if you like. Also what flow Avent teats are you using? Al Wasl have been great but one thing I have noticed is that they do not properly transition preemies to go home by introducing your choice of bottle/teat in the hospital before approving discharge.

Hi Shaf, I'm sorry to hear that your LO has reflux. It's quite awful for the little ones but hopefully is mild and the discomfort will be short lived by your LO. Probably the best ped to discuss infant reflux is Dr. Wasim at Northwest clinic. He's a pediatric gastroenterologist (sp?) and definitely knows his stuff. I would see him before you administer the Zantac, because dosage is very weight dependent. i.e. if you give too little it won't be effective at all, and obviously you don't want to give too much. Also note that some babies develop a tolerance towards zantac over time. Mine did and we had to switch to losec. We're still trying to grapple with the issues of oral aversion that reflux has caused, so again, I would stress seeing a ped for this ASAP. Hope your little girl gets better soon. x

meals, she's always been like that, but I've attributed it to the reflux. Now that the reflux is sorted she is still doing it and I don't know how to make her accept a bottle awake. The type of nipple has no effect. It's almost as if she's got an oral aversion.

Preemies are different though. You could just buy a set of baby scales and weigh him regularly at home (don't go OCD though). They should be avaiable at most big pharmacies.

How about this: http://injuryprevention.bmj.com/content/13/6/398.abstract Basically the study says that children in forward facing car seats are five times more likely to be injured in an accident. That said, the next stage car seat I would be would be a convertible car seat so I have the option to move DD forward when the time comes. I kept DD1 rear facing until she was about 22 months, but she absolutely hated and as a result car jouneys with her were horrendous!

Bump A positive step for me today. Went to see Dr. Bernard Fischer for my PND, and I feel like a weight's been lifted off my shoulders. I don't think I'm ready just yet to join a support group, but at least I've taken the first step. If it weren't for all these threads out there lately that have raised awareness on the subject I probably would have opted to continue to suffer alone in silence. So a big THANK YOU!

The Children's Oasis Nursery at the Jumeirah Palm does proper day care, i.e. you can drop off by the hour all day long. Don't know what the age limits are but I am positive that they do take babies under one year of age.

I must say I am also really surprised this is happening now... I thought that by three months supply would be well established even with pumping. This is so frustrating considering that I know of many people who have managed to exclusively pump for a year if not more... why me?? :(

Oh Lemondrops *hugs* A couple of thoughts which may or may not be relevant: - sometimes supply drops *temporarily* round about the time mum has a period - might this be the case? If so, it should rebound. - any hormonal bc in the picture? Even the mini-pill can *sometimes* cause a drop in supply. - any other medications? Some decongestants, for example, can cause a drop. - some ep mums occasionally mimic a "growth-spurt" (aka frequency day), by pumping extra often for a couple of days. I do so hope that your supply bounds back. Meals is absolutely right, you are absolutely amazing and a real inspiration. I've said it before and I'll say it again; Jumana is one lucky little girl to have you as a mummy, and whatever happens to your milk supply, nothing will change that fact. xx :( I don't feel like a wonderful mother tonight... again this is another way in which I feel I've failed Jumana. Unfortunately, none of the things you've mentioned could have caused this. I don't have my period, nor am I on any medication that could be impacting supply. I've already started pumping twice every two hours and so far no improvement in supply. :( I was really hoping to reach the 6 month mark with DD. She has reflux and I feel due to that, EBM was the best option available to us. :(

So I've been exclusively pumping for almost the last three months and I was hoping to continue doing so until DD was at least 6 months adjusted, but during the past few days, I've hit a huge stumbling block. My supply has drastically plummeted and I don't seem to be able to do anything to correct it. I'm already on the highest dose possible of motilium, am taking fenugreek, eating oatmeal and am pumping at least 8 to 10 times a day. If this continues, I will have no breastmilk in as little as a few more days. Any last ditch attempts before the inevitable happens??!!

I don't exclusively pump, however pump regularly. What pump are you using LD? When DD has a cranky day & wants to be only on Mummy's arm - I clip the pump on, attach the "machine" to my pants/trousers, freeing my hands which means I can still hold her! So basically - baby on one side and pump on the other :) We bought the Medela Freestyle (twin pumps) and it has been a lifesaver and one of the best purchases we have made! Not sure if that has helped?! Thank you yes! I've now realised I have to be a bit more ingenious! I have a hospital grade medela pump as well as a pump n style. I can just use the pump in style whilst walking with DD around the house! Great tip! Thanks again!

Thank you Plumie and Mrs. L, DD is trying to learn to BF (at least I'm still hoping, but the reflux isn't making it any easier) but for now is bottle fed EBM so I mix the Gaviscon with the EBM in her bottle, and it's been keeping the feeds down. She's also on Zantac and Motilium but so far what appears to work best is the infant Gaviscon. I am hoping however that the meds kick in as she still arches and screams in pain whilst feeding. I've also noticed that the Gaviscon makes DD very constipated although she's on EBM exclusively hence why I was asking about the number of times to use it. DD's paed prefers we limit it to maximum five times per day as a result, but the problem is that when we don't use it, DD is in a lot more pain :( Thank you again for the advice. Also @plumie, I've been just talking to a mum who'd used Gaviscon with her infant and she says she used to give it in the middle of the feed and it worked just fine. Maybe that's an option?

Bumping this as have a similiar problem with my DD2 who is almost 3 weeks adjusted (2.5 months actual). She started on Zantac and Motilium since last Thursday, but I still don't see an improvement. If it weren't for the Gaviscon there is no way she'd have kept any of her feeds down. How long before you saw an an improvement?

Thanks for the advice Sheryl, DD was on the 3months plus teats but as she's got bad reflux I need to make sure that going forward her vomiting is a result of that and not contributed to by other factors, so I think you're right, this looks like the way to go for now. JulesLC! Lovely to hear from you. But what can I say :( It's been two and a half months and I still feel I'm at the entrance of a very long dark tunnel with no end in sight. Just when we think we're over something, something new pops up to keep things "interesting"... I have now decided I can't wait for DD to grow up! Thanks for the tip re teat cap sounds very useful. My DD suffered reflux too until she was 6 months and started on solids. Have you been advised to use infant Gaviscon? It works miracles! Thanks Sheryl. I too DD to her pediatrician yesterday and in addition to Gaviscon, he prescribed Zantac and Motilium for her. The combination seems to be working already, and she seems much more settled already.

I read somewhere (and have nothing to back this up) that Umm Seqiem means Mother of Sickness. That's right. In the good old days, all the sick people living in Dubai were "banished" to the far away of land of Um Suqeim so as not to spread illness to the rest of the population!

Hi Jules, we've already tried conservative management and unfortunately it hasn't helped much. DD sometimes throws up as many as four times a day and she loses a good portion if not all her feed that way. We've tried a few satchets of Gaviscon and that appears to help a little. Hence my rather desperate plea for more sachets as we'll run out in a day or two!

Do you still have the Infant Gaviscon packets to give away to a good home? DD's reflux seems to be worsening and this seems to be helping with her discomfort a little. Unfortunately, I only have a few sachets that have been donated by the doctor and don't have access to getting it elsewhere.

Oh dear. I've just spent the last hour trying to reassure her :(. But I guess they're all different - does anyone else have any idea if 5.68kgs is OK for 17 weeks? edited by DubaiCat on 07/02/2011 yes. it's fine. As per the WHO charts, she's somewhere between the 15th and 25th percentile, which is still normal, and you're right, all babies are different and it doesn't make sense to compare them to each other. Also to answer an earlier question, the WHO charts are adjusted for babies that are BF exclusively for 6 months.

Yep, DD's assessment was at JESS Jumeirah. We didn't really do much to prepare; it's not like we had a cooperative two year old on our hands. I was told at this stage all the teachers want is to assess that the child can communicate his/her needs clearly, can socialise and play with others and is potty trained. Anything else is a plus, although DH did tell me that they asked children to count to ten, recite their ABC's and identify colours.
