Good luck with getting your Schengen visa quickly. For your sake I hope the other European countries are not like Germany, because you have to make an appointment to apply for the visa and the first available appointment is only in August!

I really believe in facials. I never had a good skin to begin with, but with regular facials it did improve. When I moved here, I didn't have facials for about two years because I didn't trust the people here with my sensitive skin. In those two years my skin aged considerably. Instead of looking at least five years younger than my age, I started to look about 5 years older than my age! During those two years I did 'home facials' weekly, using masks I brought from home. It did help a bit, but is not a replacement for a proper salon facial. To make matters worse, I can't buy the products I used in Dubai. About a year ago I found Essa Beauty Salon and started with a monthly facial again. My skin is not back to where it was when I moved here, but it is steadily improving. I now also changed the products I use and can see a difference. I will never make the mistake again to not go for my regular facial. What I find an important part of going for a facial is the fact that my skin changes and it is not always so easy for me to see what my skin really needs. A good therapist can see what is necessary for my skin and treat it accordingly. An added advantage of going for my monthly facial is that I also treat myself with a manicure and pedicure with the lovely ladies at the salon while I am there.

If you can manage to get to the World Trade Center before the end of the week you can buy Fittflops for Aed 165 at SAVEX. It ends on the 18th and there is not a lot of stock left. However, they do have a lot of Fittflops, Crocs and Schechers. I bought a pair of Fittflops and two pairs of Schechers for Aed 285. The pair of Fittflops I liked the best was only avaiable in 36 and 37.

Are all the quakes around the same time of day? I always seem to be on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road on the school run and don't feel a thing. I see there were a few in Southern Iran today. I counted about 11 today only, spread over the day.

If you are willing to pay more for material but get better quality than in Satwa, I suggest you go to Al Ghurair Mall. The material there is of better quality, but can be expensive. I had too many disappointments with material bought in Satwa and now only go to Al Ghurair. There are a lot of shops in the convenience of a mall. The material shops are on the top floor. For directions there: http://www.alghuraircentre.com/en/Stores.aspx?showmap=1

You can renew it at the SA Consulate. It takes about 3-4 months to get it. At least, that was what they told me in 2011. I went home and applied there and had it sent to Dubai. The turn-around for passports in SA is quite fast if you do it there.

If you want to buy small pieces of Velcro you can find it at Daiso. If you need a roll you will find it in Deira at the haberdashery Souk or at Abdul Razzaq Mohiddin Abdulla Trading near the Al Ras Metro station. Omoten, please note that the company may find out very soon that you are pregnant and may not want to go through with the job offer. Before you get your residence visa you have to go for a medical and I guess they will be informed of your pregnancy. Be prepared for the possibility that you may be sent home. I will rather be upfront with the company as it costs them a lot of money to get you here and process your visa and work permit. It is also a bit selfish in my mind to expect them to spend so much money on you, just to find out you are going on maternity leave soon after you joined the company. At least if you inform them, they have the choice to tell you they still want you for the job and are willing to pay for it. It may happen that they are not too happy and send you back and then you are pregnant without a job back home. Think carefully before you come without informing them.

JLT is the closest one to walk from. When you take a taxi from JLT it will have to go in the opposite direction first, turn towards Shams and right again towards Rimal. From the Marina station which is further away it can turn right directly towards Rimal. HTH

What do you mean with 'tailoring'? If you just mean to learn to sew clothes, you can go to Dubai International Arts Centre or Craftland. http://www.artdubai.com/courses/sewing-amp-construction-with-tsufa-bijelic http://www.mycraftland.com/ Other places I found are: http://dubaicity.olx.ae/q/pattern-making-and-garment-construction/c-283 http://cee.ac.ae/programs/ds_crt_ptrngrm.php http://campustar.wordpress.com/ edited by Lettie on 23/03/2013

OP, I don't know what your situation is. I don't know whether you have brothers or what your family's financial position is, or if you have brothers, how traditional they are. What I want to tell you is what happened to my mother. My grandfather felt education was wasted (fortunately your family didn't share his opinion) on a girl and took her out of school at fourteen and send her to a finishing school to prepare her for marriage. After finishing school she had to stay with them until marriage. She got married and had four children. Then my father died and she had to look after four children (ages ranging between 5 and 13) with no work experience. If it was not for my grandfather and uncles, we really would have starved. My advice to you is to talk to them about your future. Explain to them that you can not take the chance of not getting work experience, because you do not know if you are going to really need the experience in the future. Depending on your degree it may also be of little value if you don't have recent work experience in your field, as the world is changing so fast. In that case, your degree could be a waste of money. My first step would be to try to convince them with logical reasoning why you need to work. Explain the outcomes of possible scenarios if you don't get work experience and something bad happen in your future and you are unable to look after yourself, like what happened to my mother. What if something happens to your parents, who are going to take care of you? We can only pray nothing bad will happen, but you have to be prepared. Explain to them that they had raised you responsibly and that they must trust the values they instilled in you and that nothing would change when you are working. Then be true to your word. I hope you can convince them with reason. Unfortunately, I don't have any idea of the legal implications if you decide to go against their will.

The upper floor of Al Ghurair Shopping Mall has a lot of fabric stores. The fabric is of a much better quality as Satwa, but is also more expensive. The selection of fabric is very good. It is my favourite place to buy fabric. As I am very bad with directions, I give you the link to the mall so that you can find it if you don't know where it is: http://www.alghuraircentre.com/en/Mall.aspx

You can get a variety of iron-on, glue-on or sew-on rhinestones/crystals at the Haberdashery Souk in Naif Road in Deira at very reasonable prices. The iron-on ones are the easiest to use in my opinion. You can use a normal iron (more difficult) or the special tool to iron it on.

I also wondered about it a week ago. I saw a woman in an abaya which was transparent. Her dress under the abaya was also very transparent and I could see right through her. I was debating it with myself whether I should say something, but in the end decided against it. Unfortunately, that is the current local fashion here, hair showing, tigh fitting clothes under transparent abayas and stilettos. What next!!?? She would not want to have been told. She was probably more than happy with ER appearance. Now I am very glad I didn't say anything. I personally would be very embarrassed if I were unknowingly walking around looking like that.

Maybe you can talk to your pharmacist about a Zinc/Selenium supplement to clear the spots. It was recommended to me by a pharmacist back home and it helped for adult spots. It is supposed to help for acne, cold sores etc. I don't know whether it will help for teenage spots, but it may be worth a try. I know from personal experience how difficult it can be for a teenager.

I live in JBR and the Metro station is not that far away. In winter I walk there and back, but in summer I get a taxi to the Metro, but walk back. When the tram system is finished, it will be much easier. There is a tram station close to each Metro station. I do have a car, but prefer to use the Metro whenever possible. The traffic around JBR is terrible at the moment, but as you won't have a car it should not affect you that much. It can be very noisy depending in which tower you live and time of the week. Certain buildings are better than others and the side of the building also makes a difference. The higher you live the better. Overall, I can say JBR is a very good place to live for convenience, especially if you are new to Dubai. Every taxi driver in Dubai knows where it is, which makes it much easier as you don't have to explain to the driver how to get there.

The ferry departs from the Marina Mall as Amelia have said. the cost is AED 50 for silver class and AED 75 for gold class. It goes from the Marina Mall around the Palm and back. On Fridays at 11h00 it goes from the Marina to the Creek but it is not a round trip. I assume they also do the normal round trip at other times on a Friday. http://www.rta.ae/wpsv5/eservices/PDF_Catalog/Water-Ferry-Brochure-english.pdf

What kind of embroidery patch are you looking for? I can maybe help you if you can't find a ready made patch. If it is something simple I can do the design and embroidery for you and put an iron-on patch on the back of the design. As I can not charge you for it, I don't want to do a too complicated design as it can be very time consuming.

I suggest they buy the wine at the airport in SA. I saw many bottles of wine confiscated at the airport and not allowed on the flight. There is no problem with the wine bought at Duty Free. I am not sure whether it applied to all the flights, but it is better to take it in consideration to make sure they can actually bring it with them from SA in the first place.

Go to Craftland in Town Centre and buy applique paper and then you can iron it on. You can also get a tape that you can use to iron it on. I don't know what it is called, but if you explain what you need I am sure they will know what you need. I have a very good one I bought back home and is willing to share some with you. Just make sure you use a press cloth to ensure you don't cause shine when you iron it on. The drawback is that you can't remove it again without leaving a mark.

Thank you Beebers and Ilovechoos. I will visit Bloomingdales to see whether I can find anything there. As you said, good quality jeans can last a long time. The two pairs I have are more than 5 years old. If I can't find anything at Bloomingdales and I can't find decent jeans material I will go to the custom jeans shop. I am just worried that I will be like my grandmother in that regard. She used to have clothes made and immediately unpicked it because she was not happy with the work done!

I went to MOE in excitement but was very disappointed. I couldn't find anything remotely fitting. My thighs are out of proportion with the rest of my body and of all the styles I tried the 12 fitted my legs but I could take off about 10cm around my waist area. The 10 was a bit too tight around my thighs to my liking (I don't like feeling restricted in clothes but other people will think it fits), but it was also way too big around the hips and waist. I have not seen any 'trouser style' jeans in my size so couldn't try that. Do anyone know if there is ample 'leg room' in the 'trouser style' jeans? Do anyone know of any brand that I can try that have more leg room? I am about 4 different sizes when it comes to pants, ranging from a size 8 in the waist to a size 16 in length. I usually make my own jeans but haven't seen good quality denim material in Dubai that I can use to make it with. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hilsbils, I can not even begin to think how you feel. I can not get you out of my mind since reading your post early this morning. All the time I am thinking about your big loss and grieve. You and your DH lost someone very precious with your miscarriage and must give yourself time to mourn your loss. You say he got over the miscarriage very quickly, but are you sure he is really over it? Men tends to mourn differently than women. It can be very distressing to us, because we feel he doesn't care. My DH withdraws completely when faced by a loss or an emotional situation. For example, he withdrew emotionally when I was diagnosed with cancer and it felt as if he didn't care, but in the end I realized he just wanted to be strong for me. I think you should give you both time to work through your loss. Your DH may also feels that he failed you in a way and that adoption is proof of his failure and that may be the reason why he is so against adoption. When he said to you [i'>'we would be a family no matter what'[/i'>, he probably didn't really thought there would be an issue. He may change his mind over time. Only you know what is more important to you, children or your husband, only you can decide. Your 'duty' at the moment is to give yourself time to heal and get over your loss before you can move on. Don't take any big decisions regarding the rest of your life because you are probably not emotionally strong enough to make rational decisions right now. People close to you are probably too involved to give objective advice. Don't let other people upset you. If you need someone to talk to, we are always here.

I was 9 years old and my father died that September. My mother did not have money for nice gifts and she made us each a gift. I was so dissapointed with mine that I started to cry. I felt so bad for crying that I told my grandmother that I had a headache. I really felt bad and I still have the ugly little thing out of guilt for crying about it. On a more happy note, I remember my niece one Christmas. She was about four when she told her mother very seriously that she thinks it is time to open the gifts because the little ones are getting tired and need to go to bed.

Try a mini pizza. I tried it this week and it took about 30 minutes from start to finish. It was delicious, even though I made it from gluten free flour. I will definitely make pizzas again. I always was too scared to use yeast, but with this recipe (from their website) it is a breeze. Lettie, would you be willing to share the recipe, please? I've never made pizza from scratch using gluten free flour, and yours sounds delicious! thanks! I used this recipe as a base: http://www.mea.philips.com/ka/sa/en/index#/recipedetail/ph_AIR_037_SA_CONSUMER I added about 15ml of psyllium to the dough for more elasticity. I must add that I used my own mixture of gluten free flour. I also used my own topping. The dough is not as elastic as with normal flour and I had to add more oil to bind the ingredients, but it worked well enough. I hope your pizza is also such a big success as mine. I was very pleased with myself.

The haberdashery souk in Deira is a fantastic place to wander around. You can find about anything at reasonable prices there, but I won't buy thread there. I refuse to buy inferior quality thread. It is just not worthwhile to buy inferior thread. It is frustrating and it compromises the quality of your sewing. Unfortunately, the only place I know of that has good quality machine thread is Craftland. You can also buy thread at Classic Quilts of reasonable quality, but it is more expensive than Craftland.

Sorry to hijack... I would be very interested in sewing lessons too if possible! I have a brand new sewing machine (it was actually a wedding present 13 years ago but I've not ever even taken in out of the box!!) I live in Barsha, would happily host regular 'small group classes'!! :) Unfortunately, I can not give formal sewing lessons. I do not have a business license so I can not receive any money for formal lessons. I love sharing the knowledge, but formal classes are too time consuming to do for free. I am willing to show you the basics of sewing and help you on your way until you are confidant in using your machine etc. You can leave me your e-mail address if you want me to help you, or you can go for formal classes at a place like Craftland.

My guess it is a burst pipe somewhere. We had a similar problem but with a fungus growing in the bathroom. It turned out a water pipe burst 12 floors above our apartment and that caused the damp walls. In the end Idama removed the grout between the tiles, left it to dry properly and replaced it later on. A friend also had a burst pipe causing dampness in her bathroom and cupboards (also JBR). Taziz fixed the pipe and had to repaint the bathroom later. Contact Taziz to fix the problem. Just go on their website and register and make an appointment. Good luck!

As a librarian I thought I would not like it, but it is one of the best gifts my DH ever gave me. Soon after I got it I was in hospital for a week and it kept me sane. I do not leave the house without it. I have a bright pink cover which make it feel like a book, just not as heavy as a book. I find it much easier to read in bed than a book. The light means I can read at night without disturbing DH. I am also in my fifties, I can not see why age should be a factor.

I am also seeing Dr Badsha and I am very happy with her. When I told her I want to go off the methotrexate, she changed my drugs without having a problem with it. It is important to know that you sometimes you can't avoid taking drugs. As I am frequently telling people, if you have a choice between taking drugs and not be able to walk, the choice is much easier.
