Is that a big craft store, like Michael's in Canada and the US? I've been desperate to get my craft supplies and have not had much luck (either **** quality or really expensive) It is more of a sewing, knitting craft shop. You can find about anything sewing related there. It is much more expensive than the Satwa shops, but more convenient to visit. It is located in the Jumeirah Town Centre in Jumeirah Beach road (next to Mercato Mall). I don't know Michael's, but you can go to their website to see if it is the kind of shop what you are looking for. edited by Lettie on 02/12/2011 edited by Lettie on 02/12/2011

Hi Scribs, I had a lumpectomy in 2003. The team that treated me also assured me that recent studies had shown that people with a lumpectomy fared actually better than people who had a mastectomy. A lumpectomy is not always suitable, but if the doctors feel it is sufficient, I will go with it. My cancer was Type III, but my lymph nodes were clear. I opted for chemo and radiation therapy to improve my chances and am not sorry for choosing a lumpectomy. I had my 8 year mammogram 2 weeks ago and I am fine, no problems. Your state of mind is also very important, so stay positive!

I bought something similar from Home Centre for about Aed 150. Unfortunately I only saw it in pink. If the colour isn't a problem it may be worthwhile to look at as it is about half the price of the C4 one. It has 4 drawers and it is on wheels. It is not very big. HTH

We went to Petra for 3 nights and it was my best holiday ever! We stayed at the Movenpick at the entrance to Petra. The hotel was quite good and very conveniently situated at the entrance. You just have to leave the hotel and you are there. It depends on how inquisitive you are, how long you should stay there. We bought tickets for 2 days and spend both days exploring and taking photos. Before we left, we bought a book on Petra and discovered we still missed out on some places. It is an amazing place with beautiful scenery. Just prepare to walk a lot, because it is quite big. We only stopped at the Dead Sea on our way back to the airport for lunch and can therefore not comment on the hotel. It looks very nice and I would like to go back and spend some time at the Dead Sea also.

My only advice is DO NOT buy a Siemens - honestly if it is even offered to you for free don't take it. We have a Siemens (well, it's the LL's) it's gas hob and oven and it's seriously great. I have a Siemens back home and I love it! Every time I have to use my hated Fisher&Paykel here, I want to cry. You can't even begin to compare the two cookers. The Siemens is very easy to use and can be controlled in every way for consistent results. With the Fisher&Paykel it is a hit and miss. I still have to bake anything successful in it and doing dishes in the oven is rarely successful. I want my Siemens back! :(

Our building is actually on the Marina side, but my bedroom face to the sea on the one side and the side street on the other side. The only reason I know about the traffic jams in the early mornings, is that I am sometimes waiting for DH to come back from his business travels that time of the mornings. In the beginning the traffic bothered me, but I am so used to it now I don't even hear it. Definitely not a reason for me to move, I enjoy JBR. Now, if only I can get my neighbors to stop using the lift area and service lobby as a storage space...

I have not heard the noise you talk about, but around three I woke up because of people talking outside my bedroom window, which I know is impossible as I am not on the plaza level! Someone must have talked very loudly on the plaza level or from a balcony opposite my building. A traffic jam around 02h30 on a Friday morning is not uncommon where I am. I don't even hear the cars anymore, but i am not used to people talking so loudly that time of night...

Whitesparkle, when I was diagnosed with breast cancer I really thought it was the end of my life. My grandmother (and her mother) died of breast cancer so it always was a kind of a sword above my head. My great grandmother died in the time when there was basically no treatment for cancer, and my grandmother died, because she was too scared of the treatment. It all depend on the age of your mother and the type of breast cancer she has. Mine was hormone related and it is treated differently. The oncologist offered me the option of chemotherapy, even though my cancer was Grade III, as it was not essential but it was advisable. The radiotherapy was necessary, as I only had a lumpectomy. The doctor told met if I was not that young, the treatment would have been different and much easier. As I said, the treatment was not fun, as I opted for the chemo, but it was not even remotely as bad as I imagined it to be. Please talk to your mother. She does not need to make a decision today. She has time to think about it and study the different options. I just think homeopathy would waste precious time. A friend who is a homeopath recommended I take certain supplements to ease the side effects of the chemo and stressed that homeopathy can not cure cancer, but only help to cope with the treatment. Your mother has to discuss taking supplements with the doctor treating her, as the doctor who administered my chemo said she didn't have a problem with it, while the doctor who did the radiotherapy was against it. It is really important for your mother to stay positive. I can assure you, the treatment was really not [i'>that [/i'>bad and you tend to forget it soon. Instead of thinking of the treatment as one big mountain, she should look at it as steps she has to take to conquer her enemy. Tick down every step she completed and look only then at the next step. If you break it down it is not that scary. I am hoping she would get such a great team looking after her health as what I had. I would be eternally grateful for the treatment and support I had from my team and my friends and family. Remember, the first few days after diagnosis are the worst because you are in shock and are uncertain about what the future holds. Also remember information is an important weapon in this fight. Let your mother arm herself and get ready for the battle. I will be thinking about you and her. Good luck! edited by Lettie on 02/09/2011 edited by Lettie on 02/09/2011 edited by Lettie on 02/09/2011

Dear Whitesparkle, before you even consider homeopathy for cancer treatment, please try to get hold of the book 'Trick or Treatment? : Alternative Medicine on Trial' by Simon Singh & Edzard Ernst. It is an eye opener. It is available from Amazon. I can understand that you feel you need to try everything in order to win the cancer, but you have to start the fight against the cancer in the right way. Homeopathy is not the right way, it can be downright dangerous as it can waste precious time. I also had breast cancer, but was very lucky to have a competent team for my treatment. It is 8 years later, and I am living a full life, cancer free. Unfortunately the team is not available to you, as it was in my home country, but they have an excellent website you can look at, to give you a better idea about the treatment options of breast cancer. The information on the website can be very useful to you and every woman, even if they don't have cancer but is worried about their breast health. There are testimonials and photos of real cases they had dealt with. If you look at the photos you will see that breast cancer need not to be disfiguring or fatal. Breast cancer treatment is not fun, but also is not unbearable. Please take the time to look at the website. Good luck! http://www.breastcare.co.za/Topics.htm

Hi Bubbles, I can help you if you are willing to come to JBR to my place and bring your sewing machine with you (as machines differ). I don't know whether JBR is closer than Craftland to you. I don't give classes, but I am willing to teach you the basics. Post me your contact details if you are interested.

I was diagnosed with Vit D deficiency in 2009 when my rheumatologist recommended the test because people with arthritis often have a Vit D deficiency. I started to take Vit D3 twice a day. I also started with Pilates at the same time and I experienced a definite improvement. I even stopped some of the arthritis medication. I don't know if it was the Pilates or the Vit D3 supplements, or if it was the combination of the two, but I feel much better.

I am so sorry to hear about your bad news. I can fully understand that you feel your world has turned upside down. I went through the same thing 8 years ago. When I heard those word, 'Sorry, it is cancer' I thought it was the end of the world. Fortunately, I am a very positive person by nature, and soon afterwards decided to approach the whole thing as a project and not to let it get me down. My cancer was hormone related (good news) but very aggressive (type III, very bad news) and I needed surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy and hormone therapy. I marked down every phase of the treatment that was finished down in my head as a part of the project that was completed. By breaking it down makes it more manageable. It is important to stay positive as much as you can, because it makes the bad symptoms more manageable. My last piece of advice is this: No matter how bad you think it is going to be, I can assure you, it is not as bad as you think it is going to be. I imagined it much worse! One last thing, it took cancer to make me realize how much other people care for me. It is a good thing to be between the people you love while going through the treatment. Good luck, and I will be thinking of you.

I am not a quilter, so I can not give you any advice regarding the best quilting machine. I personally would go for any Bernina instead of a Brother when it comes to any sewing machine. I assume you already visited Classic Quilts at Jumeirah Plaza to look at the Bernina. Another place to look at is Craftland in Jumeirah Town Centre. They also sell Husquarvana machines as an alternative machine to look at. (I don't know if Husquarvana has a quilting machine.) I hope I don't give you information you already have, but it is all the help I can give.

I wish I had the patience to grow it to that length! I have tried so many times, but got fed up when I struggled to get it to look like something in the process of growing it. Then one day I just can't stand it any longer and off to the hairdresser I go for a haircut...

Nioxin was recommended to me by my hairdresser while I was on chemotherapy for cancer. The doctor warned me that I may lose my hair, but not necessarily. I didn't realized that I was losing my hair until it started to grow back. So overall I can say I think it helped because I never lost so much hair that anyone could notice. I kept on using it afterwards because of the hormone treatment I received and some long term chemotherapy for another ailment which also causes hair loss. I do have very thin hair, so any hair loss for me is a problem. Things could have been so much worse if it was not for Nioxin. As I have said, I still use some of their products, although it is on the expensive side.

I used to use Nioxin back home. If I remember correctly, I was advised to not wash my hair daily, but as I am someone who like to wash my hair every day, I used it daily. I just realized I still have some Scalp Therapy and according to the instructions on the bottle, it is supposed to be used daily. I don't know if this is of any help to you. (I still use their hairspray and Bliss Thermal Protector which I find excellent products.)

I don't have an answer for you, but maybe you can send Mala from Classic Quilts in Dubai an e-mail at [email protected]. She may know where you can take it for a service in Doha. Classic Quilts are the distributors for Bernina in the UAE, so she may know of someone. I can't guarantee an answer, but it may be worth a shot.

You can't just buy the CD - we back to square 1!!! :( Sorry to hear that your problem is not solved. What are the problems with your C7, have you tried to download the latest software for it? As it is a relatively new phone, there may still be some bugs which could be solved by downloading the latest version of the software. It will not replace your phone but maybe make it better.

If you want better quality, variety and convenience, Al Ghurair City is the place to go. You will find a lot of material shops on the top floor with very nice material. More expensive than Satwa shops, but the quality is better and variety bigger. The AC is also much better than walking from shop to shop in Satwa! :) Just be prepared to buy more than planned because of all the beautiful material.

We only made the mistake once to try and collect the tickets at the venue. It was a fiasco! I guess it also depends on what the event is. We collected our tickets for a cricket match at the venue and was just in time to see the end of the first innings. The next event we went to, we went to the Time Out office to collect it and it was super quick.

I get hayfever every time I take EP. Whether it is the capsule it comes in or the EP itself I don't know. You may also have an allergic reaction to it. I am also very prone to get high blood pressure because of different medications. I would stop it for a while and see what happens. The blood pressure takes a while to respond after stopping the medication.

I know you said the Home Center mattress is either too soft or too hard, but I must admit, it is the most comfortable mattress I ever slept on. I already panic when I think about the fact that I can't take the bed back home because it will not fit in the room back home. The quality of the mattress is not really up to standard and to find a fitted sheet is a nightmare. Up to now I only could find sheets at Home Center and the thread count is not up to my standard, but I still love my bed! From past experience I can tell you that it is really frustrating to have a mattress shorter than the bed, I won't go for that option.

For goodness sake just go to C4 and buy an steam iron that looks as if it will do the job for a few months, it doesn;t matter what it is or how much you spend as withing the year it will die on you regardless. I can definitely recommend one of these steam stations. I told my DH I am willing to do the ironing if I can have a steam station. Ironing is a breeze with it. I have the Tefal Pro Express Anti-Calc and are very happy with it. It is pricey, but worth every dirham. I used another brand at home for my sewing and will never be able to use anything else. Just a caution, buy one with a removable water tank, because the other ones can be a bit of a pain if you have to wait for the iron to cool down before you can add water again. I speak of experience here.

I don't think you can really compare the two books in any way because they target two different age groups as readers. Having said that, I really enjoyed both books. Maybe it depends on your age as reader when you read "A Spot of Bother". As I am being a bit older, I could maybe relate better to some parts of the story. When I bought the book the shop assistant (early twenties) looked in horror at me because she thought it was a terrible book. I was worried that I won't enjoy it, but I really did enjoy it in the end.

The Classic Quilts shop is definitely now in Jumeirah Plaza. I go there quite often and was always helped immediately. I bought my latest machine there and must say I am very happy. As for Craftland, I must say the staff is not always very helpful and on the one occasion that someone helped me, I was given the wrong advice. On the other hand, they have supplies that are not easy to find somewhere else. When it comes to the sewing machine my advice is this: If you want to do very limited sewing, a cheap machine from Carrefour may be enough, but it is always better to rather go one step up in the choice of your machine to avoid being disappointed at a later stage. You may enjoy the sewing and want to try some other stuff and then is stuck with a machine with limits. Sewing should be a pleasure and if your machine is giving trouble it is stressful, not a pleasure. I personally have Berninas since 2004 and am very happy with it. I did sewing for a living for 17 years and ought to know! ;)

I think La Mer is a bit out of my price range. I know I can use Chanel also, but I would prefer Gatineau because it is a salon product and if I go for the facials the therapist can advise me on my skin's changing needs. I don't feel comfortable with the knowledge of the girls at the beauty counters on advising me on my skin's needs. Up to now I found their knowledge very limited. They don't listen to what you tell them and have a stock response to everything, for example, 'You can't be allergic to this product because it is natural/hypo-allergenic', etc.

I am using the Melatogenine products at the moment and I am very happy with the product. I am using Gatineau now for about 3 years and find it a very good range. It may be expensive, but worth the money. Do you know where in Dubai can I get Gatineau products and do you know about a salon using it? I don't want to change my skincare regime because I am very happy with it and am very allergic which makes it difficult to change products, but I don't know where to find it.
