Hi. Always happy to help :-) We are in the Naseem Townhouses but Arabella looks great and the plus point is that the villas are brand new. I think either garden or internal road facing should be okay. We are in a corner road facing unit and hardly hear the noise from Al Qudra.

We are in Mudon and absolutely love it. We bought last year and don't regret it one bit. No major maintenance issues so far. we have contracted with a decent maintenance company and they manage our property quite well. Traffic is not an issue for us as i leave the house by 6:50 a.m.. However the traffic tends to buildup on Al Qudra Road during peak morning hours. Evenings are still okay. We have 2 pools, lots of small playgrounds at every nook and corner, mosque, community center with a decent sized supermarket, Starbucks, couple of cafes etc. We love the community because its not huge but its quite full now. My kids have made lots of friends in the playground, basketball court etc. Also they are taking soccer lessons, guitar lessons and art classes within the community.

Hi. We moved here last month in the 3 bed apartment and so far we love the place. Finishing and white goods quality are superb and maintenance and security are both top notch. If you have any other specific queries please feel free to email me at m_effendi@yahoo.com

The salary you are offering is way too low for the amount of work you have described in your post.. There is no way you would find a competent nanny/maid at this salary. I pay 2,700 to my live-in plus food, accommodation, telephone etc. and I have two kids who are in school all day. She gets one day off per week.

Hi Vilda, we are in a similar situation as you are as my husband has been offered a position with EK with AED 30k. Can I ask which grade has been offered to your husband by EK? My husband's offer states EK Grade 9 which according to them is a manager level. However DH is trying to negotiate upwards but I am not sure how successful he is going to be.

Please give an update on what final package was offered by EK. My husband has also had his first round of interviews for a similar position and I would appreciate any feedback I could get. Many thanks.

The contract duration is one year and renewable for another year. The leave is 15 calendar days for each year of the contract.

And the ticket home is every 2 years as per the standard immigration contract and 15 days leave per year, not 30 days. The maid can accumulate the leave (like mine does) and take 1 month off every 2 years.

i think that in raqueldubai's case (and to simplify it), the maid shoud get one month salary for the paid vacation month plus one week salary for the time she was supposed to be on leave but came back to work. so if the monthly salary is AED 1,500, she should get 1,500 + 1,500/30*7 i.e. AED 350 so the total would come to AED 1,850 (I think I am right but may be other posters could provide more valuable and concrete input).

As per the DNRD contract, we are required to pay 12 months salary (not 13 months) because we are paying them full salary for the month when they are on leave (i.e. the paid holiday). It is the same lin every other profession. We work 11 months a year, and get 12 months salary (and not 13 months).

I would really appreciate if someone can help me with the following: The glass door on my wall unit has been accidently broken and i would really like to replace it instead of spending a sizeable chunk of money on buying a new unit. Does some know of a company/person who provides and installs such services? I tried looking up in calssifieds, gulfnews etc. but could not find anything helpful. A million thansk in advance

Huge hugs to all of you mums who went through such difficult times with these "professional" schools. In my DS case, the "head of learning support" (who in my opinion knows zilch about both "learning" or "support") was actually promoted to the position of Vice-Principle:\: last year.

HI Lamam, My heart goes out to you because my son suffered exactly the same way yours did at one of the schools here. Since my child has special needs, the teachers and the so-called "head of special needs dept" knew very well that he would not be able to tell us what is going on with him at the school and they took full advantage of that. I wish that you would name and shame the school, the way i did... not only on this forum but wherever i could get the opportunity. In fact my husband and I went all the way to the CEO level of the group to which the school belongs to and raised he11 for treating our child like this. Hugs to you and your brave little man... edited by libra1610 on 14/02/2012

I am also searching for the same as my DS is crazy about Green Lantern too. All i could find was a Green Lantern costume at the shop (i think its called Party Zone) in Jumeirah Town Center (next to Mercato). Also, I saw a soft GL toy in Hamleys couple of weeks ago.

Philadelphia cream cheese which you have to blend with a whisk to soften it. What about the whipped Phily cheese? The only Philly cheese I have seen in the supermarkets here is the spreadable one which apparently will ruin the cake so don't want to risk it. :(

I would like to try my hand at the no-bake cheese cake. I have 2 jars of Kraft cream cheese spread lying unopened in my fridge. Can I use that for my cheese cake? Secondly I cant find normal cream cheese (i.e. the non-spreadable one) ANYWHERE. Is it available by some other name and if so, in which section of the supermarket I can find it? Many thanks in advance.

We have been living in DSO for the last 6 months and its really nice and peaceful. Small supermarkets have slowly started to open us and the Chouetram in the Spring building is very well-stocked. I think its a lovely area to raise kids:-). Oh and in March, the Kensington Nursery is opening up a branch in Cedre Villas. Lots of restaurants from International city do free delivery in DSO. Can I ask which department and Grade your husband is at EK? I believe the email only went to Grade 10 and above because I asked a friend (Grade 9 in Dnata) who wants to move to DSO but has not recieved this email from HR and in fact was surprized when I told him about this 2 days deadline.

I took my 2 kids last year to the night safari. DS who was 6 did not enjoy it particularly but my then 1 year old threw a fit and cried nonstop. she got really scared because its very very dark there and it gets quite humid and hot at night. Secondly even I did not find the experience really thrilling because most of the time, the animals are hardly visible:(. I would rather do the day zoo and bird park and let the kids have more fun there. Hope that helps.
