Manchester is a fab, bustling metropolis and one of my favourite UK cities. There is so much to see and do- and it is not all like Shameless at all- there are places like that sort of in most cities... just don't go there! From a tourist point of view there is loads of information on this website http://www.visitmanchester.com/ There's some real history- museums, art galleries, historic buildings there and great shops- the surrounding countryside is beautiful too! It has great transport connections and has its own tram and metro system and is really easy to get about. There's a big festival happening starting from June 30th http://mif.co.uk/ for more info. Whatever happens hope you have a great time!

Hi Houston Lady! Hope you are getting excited about your trip! For electronics etc. why don't you check out Carrefour in Mall of the Emirates- they have everything you could need in there so you will get a good idea of the prices. You could also go to Ikea to check out furniture prices- that's at Festival City or they do have an online catalogue so you could save yourself a trip- in fact Carrefour do too.... http://www.carrefouruae.com/ and http://www.ikeadubai.com/content/main.asp# They would both give you something to work off for your company. Some houses do come with white goods and some don't- so best to factor in having to buy everything for negotiation with your company. Hope that helps a bit and good luck!

There was this story in 7Days... http://www.7days.ae/article/news/national/will-canines-be-canned so it is under discussion. Would be such a shame but it does not surprise me seeing the amount of dog poop in the communal garden areas- it is a disgrace. Something has to be done and bad owners will have ruined it for responsible owners unfortunately.

Why don't you start texting- instead of talking- cut down the number of calls-wait for her to call- don't pick up-text her back- saying am just having my breakfast (or whatever) will call you later? Things like going to the cinema late she'll be worried about you so say you'll text on your way home- just try and introduce more texting less talking :) and bless her she sounds like she really cares :) can imagine it is annoying having to give a running commentary of you life though :) edited by Licorice on 17/04/2011 edited by Licorice on 17/04/2011

You should get a man to call him and tell him to stop- if you do not feel happy with this report him to the Al AMeen service it is confidential and they will ring him for you and tell him to stop- or you can just threaten him with this and reporting him to the RTA- he should give up after that! After that save his number in your phone under Do Not Answer or something like that and never contact him again- he will see any further contact as a come on and they you are playing hard to get- been there so I feel for you!!!

Seriously?? We went there and could not stop laughing- 3 stalls- only one that was any good...the others looked like they had just bought some veggies from Spinneys and were selling them there. We thought it was such a shame that it had not been done properly and would be such a great idea if done well. I would not recommend a visit solely to the "farmers market" tie it in with a Dubai mall trip as well- the market is not worth a trip alone.

I once had to go to the lost and found department at Al Ghusais- what an eye opener that was! Basically a warehouse crammed with stuff! So many lost suitcases, bags and bags of watches and phones etc etc !! I could have just said yeah that's my one and pointed at anything but am too honest! I think they keep things for a period of time then they auction off? You don't get it back I don't think not like it used to be in UK :)

It always make laugh when I see the word saloon- I think of gun slinging cowboys too- someone once told me it's a salon if it's female and saloon if it's male out here- will have to double check- not sure if that's true!

I go to The Greens branch- well I do when I can get an appointment- they always say fully booked- do you reckon they are saying fully booked so they don't have to do too much work??? It is quite a busy place in there and don't think it is big enough but when have been I have always had a ok-ish nice time. There are too many staff in there lolling about though. I only go beacuse it's handy maybe should venture a bit further afield- I second Essentials as being a lovely place to go too- not been for a while maybe it's time to go back :)

I love M&S and always see shoppers of all nationalities in there! I especially like the lingerie- such a wide range and also great for swimwear and work clothes too. Doesn't seem rip off expensive to me and I don't mind paying a little bit more for quality anyway. It's nice in there almost feel like I am back home for a minute :)

There is quite a few extremely graphic and violent scenes in that book and I honestly don't think it would be suitable for a 12 year old- we're not talking a bit of Mills & Boon action! I didn't even want to watch the film version with my mum and dad at Xmas as I knew would die of embarassment during those scenes!!! Why don't you find the bit in the book and read it yourself and then you will know....?

Oh wow have just googled it and it's really common....it's something to do with pipes and concrete floors- so we should stop cussing our neighbours- it is really common in Singapore and has become an urban legend apparently- right mystery solved! ETA- I cannot stop laughing now picturing loads of us sat there at night going- "grrrrrr damn those kids and their pesky marbles- why are they still playing at 3am!!!!!"- when after all that it's the pipes/concrete!! Just google "marble dropping sound" and you'll see how common it is and loads of wierd and wonderful explanations for it! edited by Licorice on 18/01/2011

Maybe it is the pipes then? Or is marbles at midnight a popular sport? I wish I had gone up before I had moved out- not to have a go or anything but to finally find out what it was!

I used to have the same noise in my old flat- got me actually wondering if it is marbles or whether it was the pipes or something- same thing as you till very late at night- sounds like a marble being dropped, bouncing a bit and rolling along.... so maybe just maybe it's not marbles? I always wanted to go upstairs and ask but never had the nerve!
