Hi can anybody please tell me how to pay an abu dhabi traffic fine in Dubai? To pay on the on the abu dhabi portal I need to upgrade my account to enable payment of traffic fines. This requires a card reader to scan my emirates ID which I don't have so that is not an option... TIA :)

Hi. Can anybody tell me when the dnata egate office SZR is open on fridays/saturdays please? I need to renew. None of the phone numbers i have tried from various websites work. Also there was nobody available to register for smart gate on arrival a month ago and told to 'go queue'! So would like a new egate card just in case...

Do bio scuplture gel nails lift at the edges like acrylics? I have been wearing them for a year but constantly have to apply cuticle oil. Do you get refills or are they replaced every 3 weeks (or however long they last) Also any idea of prices? edited by liinsh on 09/07/2014

i am looking too, but have 2 cats, it is too stressful to get them out of the house for the day (and us getting them into carriers), will pest control recommend a safe solution? Can I trust them? I do not want to risk a 'yes ma'am' answer!

Hi all, hoping I can pick your brains for ideas & suggestions for a friends 40th in July. We are having difficulty as: a) its in the middle of ramadan b) so in the midde of summer c) its on a Sunday So as you can see there are a few restrictions placed on what we can and cannot do. Of course we would also like to celebrate with a bottle of bubbly... But would prefer something different to nice dinner. It does not have to be a Sunday if this would open up to more ideas. If anybody has faced this particular challenge and managed to pull off a wicked birthday for a good friend please let me know!

Well me & DH loved Kurumba. There are different types of accomodation. The deluxe villas near the sand bar are the opposite side to Male (airport) and are just fabulous. I believe most of the accomodation has now been upgraded. You can check the resort map on their website. They have a facebook page too which is quite active. I would go back in a heartbeat. There are many restaurants and packages available to suit your needs and the food is very good in the ones we tried (ocean grill, japanese, chinese and italian). Very chilled and reasonably priced. And a major plus point is it 10 minutes by speedboat to the resort. As another poster said there are paths all around. HTH

its not just me, there are a number of people regularly leave food.... or used to until this week strangely enough... I only pop down there at lunchtimes as I work nearby so they have to fend for themselves at weekends... also not that easy as I have two of my own and tried fostering once and it was a disaster!

All 3 have been to the vets and have been health checked and are doing ok except mum cat who is a bit weak and has had antibiotics. They have gone to stay with a very kind lady while mum cat recuperates and the kittens are weaned for 5 days but then they need to be fostered as the lady cannot keep them any longer... or they will have to back to the stone yard :(((( anyone??!!!

Hi, this is a long shot but I am looking for a foster home for a mum cat and 2 kittens. I look after a number of cats who live in a stone yard in Al Quoz. They have all been neutered with the help of feline friends except one that got away and had kittens, there are 2 left. Mum is very sick and the kittens look malnourished. FF will try to catch mum cat and kittens later today to take them to the vets. Originally this was to spey the mum but we think she is too poorly. Mum is very friendly but one of the kittens is a little wary so it might be difficult to catch her. If mum is not suitable for a foster in a home home permanently due to being an outdoor cat, the second best option is if we could find a foster home for a few days while she recovers from whatever illness she is suffering from - with her 6 week old kittens. FF are full and I have contacted SCADS and FADXB. If anyone is willing or able to foster these poor creatures please let me know!!!

I would advise against using mounting tape - I have used these in two different apartments and they have pulled down large chunks of plaster and made much more mess than a small nail. Fortunately the repairs were made by my company before leaving the accomodation.

There are a number of strays that hang around spinneys in al badia (nothing unsual there) but in the couple of weeks or so the regular black tom has developed a 1 inch diameter scab on his back and has become bald around it (dont know how to post links to photos). I dont think this is from fighting - could it be ringworm? The scruffy white one is in a bad way. She has been in a fight and has any eye infection. She is in a bit of a mess and very miserable. Then there is the tabby kitten who is frightened of its own shadow. I have no idea where it came from but the last week these 3 seem to be rubbing along ok. But they are a sorry sight, its heart wrenching. The black tom now even knows my car and runs up to me when I pop over to feed them. There are other people who feed them too. Except I am away this weekend and so is another regular feeder so I am bothered they will go unfed the next 3 days :( Is there any charity who could see to them and get them fixed up? the cuts/bruises and eye infections? I work full time so can only help at weekends. I know all charities are struggling but just thought I would put it out there... you never know!

Hi, I had an implant 2 weeks ago at Drs Nicolas (Dr Stein). I had a root canal and crown for my front tooth (bike accident!) 20 years ago which needed replacing (the crown post fractured and they couldn’t get it out which caused complications). This was over a year ago but this time the RCT and new crown and post failed after a few months so the dentist recommended an implant. I almost broke down as after a total 12 hours in the chair already trying to sort it out months earlier – to find out it was all for nothing! The dentist told me an implant was nothing compared to the post removal and RCT and I would not feel any pain. I am a very nervous patient (understatement) so was also prescribed Xanax (which is no longer available so they use valium now). And I can honestly say so far it has been a dream compared to the RCT. The tooth extraction was very quick, painless and dare I say it easy (as it was a front tooth or what was left of it). I had a denture fitted which I was dubious about but after 4 months it doesn’t bother me anymore. After 3 months I went for a CT which showed I needed an artificial bone graft. Again more dismay but this was actually done at the same time as the implant but it did not hurt one bit, the sensation of him tightening the implant was a bit surreal! I floated in and out and was all done in 40 minutes! I had a check up last week and now I wait for another 3 months when I finally get my crown which I will be excited about. The implant crown will be the same as my last. And it is shaped to suit your own teeth. Because it is a front tooth they built the bone up and filed the denture to let the gums shape and get perfect symmetry. They really are paying attention to detail. The only issue I had the ast time was the colour. But now I get a second chance I will make sure I am 100% happy with it as this should be for life. The crown I had for up to 10 years was a perfect match (my dentist in the UK). As for maintenance I am told regular cleaning and dental hygiene is the norm. There is 98% success rate and there is no reason mine should fail but it does happen and without reason so I just have to hope mine works. It is recommended also that you should not smoke. Think the costs are as follows: dental extraction total 3460aed. implant + surgery + bone graft = 11140aed. Think the crown is approx 4000aed. Not cheap but hopefully for life :)

This thread has struck a chord with me. I have always wondered what others would do as I drove past a dog months ago on the marina but certainly looked dead to me and there were a couple of crows hanging around it but I never stopped to check. An hour later I was driving past again and he was gone. I have never forgotten this. Then last Monday morning I was driving on the inside lane of the 6 lanes roadworks roundabout at the Umm Seqeim/Al Khail junction and was horrified to see a small dog against the concrete barriers who had been run over and was trying to lift himself up but his hind leg/backside were clearly injured. I was torn about what to do but just couldn’t drive away so I went back round and 10 minutes later I caught labourers trying to put him in a black bin liner. So I pulled over and caused chaos then the police turned up - I thought I was going to be in a bit of trouble. Anyway they took my ID and we lay him on the back seat of my car. Half an hour later me and the little guy (who had by this time gone into shock but was still barely alive) were on our way to the vets. The vet suggested that there was a small chance they could save him, however with him being a stray (no chip) and with such bad injuries that could run into 1000’s AED the kindest thing would be to euthanize him. So that’s what we did. And I still feel a bit guilty about it. It is a horrible predicament to find yourself in and I feel sick everytime I see a sandbag (this is what he looked like). I would do it again. But it depends on the circumstances i.e. inside lane of SZR and I would have to question my sanity. I would probably call the police or dubai municipality. This was a busy roundabout but slow moving traffic. It is a spur of the moment decision. Shame on the person who actually hit him :(

I also went to KV last week and got processed. When I got out I recieved a text saying I had an appointment on 30th May at Dubai - Al Karama (Emirates Post) Service Point. I called EIDA as I requested the card to be delivered but she said they couldnt deliver I had to collect?! I am still confused as I know people who have had it delivered to them. Anyone else had this problem or an appointment to collect the card at a post office?

I suffer from perorial dermatitis - acne type rash around the nose and mouth - mine is caused by sunshine and humidity/heat. I saw many doctors but found a solution that worked for me on earth clinic website. There were many remedies and causes that worked for different people but eventually found one that worked me - dosing my face in apple cider vinegar (organic & with mother available in Spinneys) after being in the sun. After all these years and not a special/medical/expensive cream in sight! I am not cured (I will breakout if not used after being in the sun) but it is most definitely under control. See if any of the remedies on the website work for you.... http://www.earthclinic.com/CURES/rosacea.html

My mother was due to overstay her 30 day visit visa. She flew into AD airport and I went on the webchat portal on www.abudhabi.ae. I googled ‘abu dhabi department of naturalization and residency’ – not sure if thos link will work.. http://www.abudhabi.ae/egovPoolPortal_WAR/appmanager/ADeGP/Citizen?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=p16276&lang=en The operator confirmed that as it was ‘visit visa on arrival’ she would get the 10 days grace period. She has a UK passport. I think the ‘visit visa on arrival’ is the crucial point here. Any way she ended up flying home on day 31 no questions asked.

I work on Saadiyat Island and a gazelle has been spotted roaming around near New York University Project. Not sure if it can sustain itself on an uninhabited island? Can it? Or is there wildlife rescue in AD that can come and check it out?
