I've had some blood tests done over the past 6 months and the results have been so varied that I don't know if I should trust them or not! The first GP (and accompanying lab) diagnosed me with borderline hypothyroidism and no insulin resistance. This test was repeated after a couple of months and each time the result showed variation but with the same final diagnosis. When I then went to an ob-gyn, I was promptly told that pathology labs in the UAE are very unreliable and hormonal tests are so sensitive that most get them wrong. Tests at their in-house lab showed ridiculously high insulin levels and was diagnosed with insulin resistance and pcos. I was put on high dose medication immediately. I started this as I do have a family history of diabetes and my physical symptoms matched this diagnosis. However, a month after taking the medication, repeat tests have shown no significant reduction in insulin levels and the dr now wants me to increase the dosage even further. I am not comfortable with this as I don't know how accurate the results from this lab might or might not be. I have had insulin tests periodically from different clinics in Dubai over the years but have never had levels as high as the latest tests are reporting. Can anyone recommend a pathology lab that they trust in Dubai where I can go for a second opinion? When I say trust, I mean where the results were similiar or in line with results they had with tests in their home countries or with doctors they trust. Given how materialistic Dubai is, I always have this feeling at the back of my mind that doctors are trying to push their own agenda at the expense of the patients. It might just be paranoia on my part but it's definitely something I think about. Thanks. p.s. How do people feel about the lab used by Dr Amel Tayib (endocrinologist)? Should I get tested there to see how similar the results are? Hi fatmuch, seems like were both in a similar situation. I have recently been diagnosed with insulin resistance and hypothyroidism. Have been put on glucophage and now another med for the hypothyroidism which I haven't started yet since I am still skeptical about the test results since my glucose levels and thyrioid levels have always been normal the numerous times I have had them checked. I have decided that I will run another test before I start on the meds. Can you please email me on [email protected] and let me know which lab and GP you have used.

what do you mean by eating cleanly? Clean eating no junk etc yes yes but does that include no wheat, dairy etc or does it also go to include no GM stuff etc.... exactly what kitten67 said.. its basically a life style that i chose. but excluding the brown carbs.. i just subsituted my rice and pasta for qunioa (superfood). it really is nice.. i just love that you don't feel full.. just not hungry.. research about it and tell me what you think.. if you write down your mail i can mail you some e-books i pruchased.. one is about meal prepping and one is recipes full of clean eating.. i lost 16 kgs so far.. fitter than i was in high school.. my old clothes are fitting nicely than they did when i had them.. i'm loving it.. oh i also lift weights 3 times a week.. and do cardio 2 times a week.. just to stay in shape and build muscles.. but i know people who just eat clean and they look fabulous.. Singarosa if you dont mind can you please email those e-books to me on lilypad848 at gmail dot com. Its been a week I have started eating clean. Iv been put on the diet due to my insulin resistance, so I cant take milk, wheat, sugar or any kind of lentils. So far im finding it a bit hard since I miss my bread and my rice and not finding any recipes is not helping since its getting a bit boring eating the same thing everyday. In desperate need of help.

Some of these names are verry old...and fairouz is a boy's name... so is Malek and Zain....the female version for Malek would be Malaika... a lot of female names end with "a" or "ah", its just an arabic thing...it makes the name more suitable for a female and not male...DD's name is Esra( pronounced Isra in arabic).. with a more turkish spelling... other names would be... Lyla, Zara, Zoya, Hania, Romaisa, Irsa lots more on the internet

was about to start a thread regarding metformin aswell...what coincidence. I'm due to take my first tablet today, just a bit worried since I failed to ask m doctor more details. For those who have been taking the drug for a while.. does the body get dependent on the drug. Dont want to be taking this drug forever.

Hi mrsb Hope you're well! I saw a thread a few days ago where you recommended a Pakistani tailor (?? Asma?). I've been looking for the thread but I cant find it. Please could you post her details again for me? Also, DH, DD and I are supposed to be going to Pakistan early next yr for a family wedding. I haven't been before and really dont want to go for a number of reasons, but one of which is that its getting to be a huge pain in the, e'hem....wallet. I had some beautiful outfits from my BIL's wedding a couple of years ago and thought I could wear them for this wedding but have now been told by MIL that I cant as i wont look "fashionable". And besides that, they appear to have mysteriously gone missing. SIL who is in P'stan at the moment is saying that the new fashion is a western style maxi-dress with a long waistcoat over the top. I'm not from there and dont follow their ever changing fashions, so I have absolutely no idea what she's on about. Tried googling it but cant find anything even close to her description. We've asked her to send me some pics so I know what I'm looking for but apparently she's "very busy" so who knows if i'll actually get the pics. Do you know what it is she's describing? If so could you maybe post a link for me to see? Really appreciate any help you can offer! TIA! :) xx ETA: If anyone else is up on their current Pakistani fashion trends and has any pics they could share, I'd love to see them! Thanks! :) edited by LMAO-DXB on 24/11/2013 Hi, LMAO DXB, you don't have to worry about the long maxi with jacket since the trend is that pretty much everything goes, be it long or short (which wasn't the case a few months ago), will post a few links here so you get the idea [url=https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=726344604077287&set=a.726343277410753.1073741836.172804239431329&type=3&theater'>link[/url'> [url=https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=726348344076913&set=a.726343277410753.1073741836.172804239431329&type=3&theater'>link1[/url'> [url=https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=481453088576679&set=a.456956154359706.114764.167998843255440&type=3&permPage=1'>link2[/url'> [url=https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=224619267554373&set=a.171535106196123.47265.145141878835446&type=3&theater'>link3[/url'> ETA : This is probably the style your SIL was talking about [url=https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=670495506316237&set=a.670495146316273.1073741831.174633525902440&type=3&theater'>Long coat[/url'> HTH <em>edited by lilypad28 on 24/11/2013</em>

Hi!! So the desert maker arrived today. DH and I had been really looking forward to it coming so pre-froze some bananas and pineapple. I washed and assembled the unit then went to meet a girlfriend for lunch. Came back to a pile of brown sludge on the work cabinet and unwashed bowls!! LOL!! DH was not impressed with the machine but undeterred I had a go. It came out perfect!! It seems to be critical to let the fruit defrost and soften up a bit before putting it into the machine. I would also say quite a bit of the 'ice cream' gets stuck in the unit so worth scraping that out. Now the unit itself.....interesting.....The box and its contents looked all present and correct and well packaged. Its a bit clunky and cheap looking but seems to be legitimate? Really hard to tell. I did notice when I was putting away the packaging that the Yonanas signage on the box read Yonauas in one place. No idea if that mistake is why the item is so cheap or because its a copy? Time will tell I guess!! Overall I paid 121AED (including delivery) and we have resolved to track down the deluxe version of the machine if we continue to use it. Hope thats helpful- good luck with whatever machine you choose!! edited by Desertbeauty on 13/11/2013 Thanks desertbeauty, had been looking forward to your feedback all day. The spell mistake seems to be fishy. Can you please tell me the name of the seller on souq you bought it from? Might decide to buy from them aswell

I tried this for the first time at a stand at the Dubai Womens Run last week- yummy! I've placed an order through souq and apparently it is arriving tomorrow. It was a lot cheaper (almost 170 AED cheaper) to order through there than on the shopping channel website- but I'm yet to be convinced that all will be present and correct!! Will let you know how it goes if you like? Thanks Desertbeauty, will be waiting for your feedback on this. Can I ask how much did you get it for, I saw it for 299 AED on an online shopping website but now that i checked souq prices its advertised for 98 AED. Thats quite a huge difference. Wonder why

Has anyone tried the yonanas dessert maker? Im thinking of buying one but worried it might turn out rubbish as most AS SEEN on TV products do. The commercials say that the machine can turn frozen fruit in to desserts that taste and look like soft serve ice cream. Sounds too good to be true.

We had a similar thing when renewing our contract last year. We are in JLT too and the building switched over to PDC, so the LL said he would keep rent the same, but we would need to bear the chiller charges as each apt is now metered. We agreed and actually, the charges are OK, however, we pay direct to PDC and so we get the bills and pay based on our own consumption. The apartment is not metered, and they're asking us to pay us by sq.yd...so the bigger the apartment, the larger the bill.. sounds ridiculous. They should atleast have meters put in place

The apartment was advertised as having a "FREE CHILLER" however there is nothing on the contract that says that the chiller is free. So i'm thinking . since this will be our third year of renewal, is it possible they change the contract this time and add in the clause that the tenant will be liable to pay the chiller charges. Wish I had known this before so we could have had it written on the contract.

Our contract is up for renewal in Dec, we got a letter from the landlord asking for 17% increase in rent, since the RERA calculator did not show any increase we told them that wont be happening. So their next answer is fine no rental increase but you have to pay 5k per year as chiller charges (a notification for this was sent 2 months back as-well) This will be our third year in the apartment, wanted to know weather the landlord can legally do this? There is no mention of chiller charges payable by the tenant in the original contract Call the rent committee. This is happening a lot Who would you pay the chiller charges too as my friend in JLT has to pay them however she pays them directly to Palm District Cooling not the LL I would call his bluff and ask who you pay the chiller charge too? edited by sarahlou123 on 02/10/2013 The building is owned by a company and they are dealing with the whole matter. They're saying we can move out if were not willing to pay the charges. Is there a phone number for the rent committee you might have? Cant find their contact number, or is the Rent committee and RERA the same?

Thanks all, I use Pampers so have bought Huggies to see if it makes a difference. I will try changing her in her sleep but her room is so blimmin dark that it's impossible and I'm worried she might wake up :( Let's see. Pampers need to investigate this and make a tummy sleeping diaper with extra frontal absorbency! Huggies are extra absorbent, pampers leak alot. They might just help. Good luck

Thanks ladies, i have looked it up over the internet and it seems like this is indeed the problem, however I cant find any detailed video that can show me how to fix it. The gas oven is pretty basic and I don't see and nozzles or screws that can be turned to regulate the air/gas mixture. Still trying to figure it out. Sunlight if you have any link to a relevant video will be so thankful.

The bases and up the side of my pots and pans will often go blackish also - I find the best way to get rid of it is the old fashioned way - steel wool (the sort that rusts not the stainless steel type) and Jiff or even better old fashioned powdered Ajax (which I haven't seen here so I use the white Jiff liquid) and loads of elbow grease. Thanks for the reply mrsb, but I think there is something wrong with the oven itself, and im hoping to find the solution The pots are not just black on the sides , there is actually a layer of greasy black soot that comes of on anything the pot is placed on. If I put my hand on it, it'l come of on my hand and this happens every time single time I cook.

Im sure you already know this, but just incase please do add ispaghol (husk) which can be found at any of the indian/pakistani stores to your daily routine, also soak 3-4 figs(dried) overnight and take the water and figs first thing in the morning. yes we always apply through their sharjah office. I think we get the sharjah visa as well. Ask them for the e visa so they can just email it to you when its approved and you can forward it to your friend. Otherwise delivering the visa to the visa desk at the airport so your friend can pick it up is altogether another hassle. try www.cozmotravel.com always use them for visa issues. There is also a deal going on Groupon. However wont take the risk since its urgent and Groupon does not have a good reputation. edited by lilypad28 on 10/09/2013 Thanks for this, when I phoned them they were very helpful, will go to their Business Bay office and hopefully get it, interestingly enough I was told if Dubai immigration doesnt do it they will also try applying through Sharjah as sometimes that works...how weird is that??? Sharjah visa is AED365, Dubai visa is AED400....go figure...

Thats alright AnonDubai. The govt hospital did give me alot of stress, so I went back home for the delivery and glad I did. I ended up having an emergency C Section due to low amniotic fluid. Latifa Hospital was not giving me a date for a scan before my due date, and the doctor appointments were few and far in between so I doubt the doctor's would have been able to foresee the amniotic fluid getting dangerously low. Fortunately our insurance refunded most of the amount. OP, don't want to scare you but I would recommend you continue seeing a private OB/GYN, specially during the last trimester. Oh no, Lilypad! I am sorry to read that. I think I was the one who recommended the government system to you. OP, what you are describing is normal. I remember that they rescheduled an appointment for me when I was in my third trimester so I went two months without seeing a doctor. It seems that if you are having a normal pregnancy, they let you slip through the cracks. Fortunately, for me, I hated going there so was happy to have minimal pregnancy intrusion but I can understand why that would annoy some women. Do you have private insurance?

I would suggest you go to a private clinic for your scans and appointments in case you have already paid the full amount for the antenatal appointments. Incase you have not, would not suggest you go there. I took the route last year, paid 5000 aed for the ante natal appointments and the appointment for my first scan was given after my due date. Really not worth the stress. Well, to start with, I am 16 weeks pregnant and decided on registering with the Dubai Hospital. So i prepared the health card and have been assigned a local health care centre. i went in there yesterday when they registered me (they do not register before 16 weeks) and i was asked to see a Genreal Practitioner who wrote me a referral for Gynaecologist and asked me to book an appointment at the reception. And to my surprise i have been given an appointment for 3rd Oct ' 13 which is like 3 months from now. When i tried to ask her why so late and that she should give me an earlier appointment, she just snapped back saying that there are patients behind you as well. Has any body else faced this kind of a problem getting a suitable appointment? I understand that government set ups are busy but 3 months for the first appointment is a little too much.

Boiling the tin works. Either boil in a normal sauce pan for 3 hrs. Making sure the tin is covered with water at all times. Or boil in the pressure cooker for 30 mins. In both cases make sure you only open the tin when it has had time to cool off properly

most of the ramadan recipes involve deep frying, its almost like tradition now. Come ramadan and its all about deep fried samosas, oily spring rolls and fried gram four fritters. Its like were swimming in oil. :D not healthy i must admit Is that because they have become an easy, quick meal to prepare as dinner for break fast? Nope dinner is apart from that. And they are actually more work than preparing your average meal.. its just its ramadan and crazy as it sounds people cant imagine breaking fast without fritters on the table... well atleast DH cant. Hope this ramadan will be with much more healthier food options

DD just started solids. yesterday she finished a whole pear (pureed) later when i checked online, it was written to only give 2-3 tea spoons to a 6 month old. Quite confused here. Hi, I had the same problem, DD got really constipated on Aptamil 2 (the equivalent to Aptamil 3 for you) and I put her back on Aptamil 1 and she's fine. I recommend you switch back to Aptamil 1 and for the iron etc your baby needs, add other things to the diet, you can even put soluble biscuits in the milk bottle, they have added iron and calcium etc. DD was going off drinking milk she wanted solids instead (happens to a lot of babies) so I add Farleys date rusks (quarter of a biscuit to 180ml) and she gulps it down. With every meal give lots of water, my rule is 2 bites of food and then I give her her sippy cup, that's also really made a difference. So since the last 2 days iv noticed DD is throwing up alot with the Aptamil 2, never happened with Aptamil 1. I hope its okay to switch back to Aptamil 1. Sourskittleashnut how old is your baby, is she still on Aptamil 1? Has the doctor approved it aswell? Also these soluble biscuits, from what age can they be given? Can you please tell me what's the teat size your using if your mixing it in the milk and giving through bottle.

iv never had a taxi driver try and talk to me.... unless he hears me speak and finds out I speak the same language as he does ... and everytime they have refused to take the fare ....only in respect of the common language.... iv refused every time ofcourse... these prople earn meagre wages and still some have a heart of gold... I don't think I'ts fair to make generalizations. ... just dont talk to them when if they try and make small talk. ... if some one harrases you. . get out of the taxi and report them... sleaze balls shouldn't be allowed to geet sway with it..they just give the rest of those poor taxi drivers a bad name

Three fumigation attempts, new beds/bedding are they are still here! Last fumigation was just Saturday last week! Cannot believe this. I have done everything conceivably possible to try and get them eradicated. Question - my sofas are still a problem obviously but do not want to throw out AED20,000 worth!! Are there companies that, as with furniture, placed into a special area for fumigation of wood lice etc? Any ideas gratefully received before we are finally bitten to death!! edited by Alaingirl on 21/05/2013 dont think the sofas would be infested unless you sleep on the sofa... have you found any bed bugs in them?... sorry dont have answer to your question...hope u can get rid of them....you can leave them out in the sun for a while if you live in a villa. That can get rid of them.

You could go back to the from birth formula, it's easier for them to digest and more similar to breastmilk, follow ons are allowed to use cheaper ingredients and are more similar to regular cows milk, there is actually no reason to switch to a follow on and many drs advise against them. kiwispiers, that is interesting... do you have any insight into whats the difference between 2 and 3... aptamil's official website suggests aptamil 3 for 6 month onwards... no mention of aptamil 2....DD has had no issues with taking on aptamil 2, although i only did notice that the powder itself is of much less finer quality than aptamil 1. when asked , her doctor said its fine to move to aptamil 2 , but can stay on 1 if she has problems with it
