I noticed tonight that it's a 60k zone and DH said he thought he saw a speed camera being installed. It's actually a good diversion and clearly marked but people slow down to 40kph for some reason! There is a speed camera. Hard to tell if it is in the 100 or 60 zone but better to be careful! There is 100km written on the road at the start of the diversion but then there is a 60km sign later. Otherwise, slowed down a bit but didn't get too backed up going through at 5:30pm yesterday and today. That makes perfect Dubai sense!

worst birthday party was my 5th birthday, I had chicken pox I was itching like crazy and had to put on a fluffy pretty pink dress and pretend I was happy. Mum had sent the word around to the other parents that I was "with pox" and everyone turned up and I went to bed. I did manage to infect my cousins and a girl from school that looked like the prissy girl off Little House on the Prarie. Thank goodness for my nanna (bless her) she spent the whole afternoon giving me cuddles and then made me another doll cake when I could eat it without being sick. My 6th birthday was spent in hospital, no wonder I hate celebrating my birthday.... edited by littleone on 26/10/2014

She has definitely had her upper eye lid done but they were really droopy before and she has had a serious amount of botox but I dont see an issue with it, I think she looks rather good. It also has a lot to do with the way she is pursing her mouth rather than her usual smile.

I have used Loving My Bag and I didn't have the most positive experience, they ruined pair of my shoes and whilst they weren't totally to blame, I was very disappointed that they didn't tell me that they were going to paint my shoes when they restored them. And a handbag I had cleaned with them came back ok, but not fantastic. I have recently used The Cobbler at DIFC to resole a pair of my shoes and they came back amazing. They cleaned them inside and out and where I chipped the heel it has been repaired so much so that you can't really see it. I am so happy with their service that I have dropped off two more pairs for repair and to be resoled. The staff I have dealt with were fantastic, knowledgeable, polite, professional and helpful.

Go to the Creek, there are some amazing pics to take on both sides. Get on a dhow and cross over, go to the gold and spice souks, the textile souk, the bastikia and near the Iranian mosque - which is beautiful during the afternoon sun. I went with GPP a few years ago and I think I took over 800 photos in a few hours, the light was amazing in the afternoon and then into the evening. Try a construction site as well where you can take portraits of the workers, night shots over SZR if you are game, also when it opens Global Village, maybe even a day at the polo fields. edited by littleone on 16/10/2014

Bingo, I wouldnt compare the services of Emaar with Nakheel, they are poles apart. We are in GM and have never had our mail delivered there and there are no individual letter boxes for our building.

The south is definitely much nicer than the north. We did Halong bay overnight, 3 nights Hanoi - street food tour is a must and 10 days in Da Nang, loved it. Saigon was also a favourite and we did a great tour with Bao Lao to some Aussie sites from the war, the tunnels, War Atrocities Museum was also good, confronting but interesting. Enjoy, I would go again in a heart beat.

ooohhhh....I am sure it getting closer because I am mean as a mad cat at the moment. Possibly explains why I have been on war path about our fire issues in our building! Poor DH will be coping the brunt of it over the weekend, although I am trying to keep it in check!

I watched them install them then the box went up. There have been plenty of cars flashed in the last 24 hours, I had one idiot come racing up on the verge and "flash" off it went, he slowed down to a crawl after it and I gave him a little round of applause as I drove by. The good thing is that it has reduced the noise of the high performance vehicles. We are on the GM/Fairmont side and we havent had too much of an issue with the lights but its terrible on the Shoreline side. With more construction going on in the Palm they really need to address the traffic issues before they become a nightmare, weekends are bad enough.

Its been 48 hours they have been operational and the speed limit is 60klm, I get to watch the flashing from my balcony, usually its the speed racers that go through and get a lovely pic, they have to be doing at least 100klm.

Its crazy considering the fire that happened last year in JLT but at least there were no fatalities in that building. I am printing out fliers to drop off at our neighbours because they need to have a plan on how to get out in a fire. I am hoping to resolve it with management before I have to go to the media.

Called Civil Defense and whilst they were helpful I have to write a letter in Arabic and submit it to their office before they can do anything. If there is a fire in our building , it going to be interesting as we have fire doors which close off when the alarm goes and we cant get to the other fire escape. We have no emergency lighting, one fire door is broken and three other fire doors have also been locked. Will now be onto the building owners and strata managers. grrrrrrr......

Thanks ladies, I am so angry and still fuming that some idiot thinks this is an acceptable way to stop people exiting the building. I will be on my high horse tomorrow with management and will try civil defense to see if they can help us out.

That was the full retail price at nordstrom including delivery, I am very very happy. I cant wait for the Black Friday sales later in the year, got DH some running shoes last year and they were so cheap compared to Dubai. I rarely buy here anymore, although the shoe sales are usually good. Also try the website gilt, they have some really good sales. edited by littleone on 18/09/2014

Watched an interesting article on A Current Affair about unclaimed money held by ASIC and Public Trustee, with over $3billion being unclaimed. [url=http://aca.ninemsn.com.au/article/8907253/how-to-claim-the-billions-of-dollars-owed-to-millions-of-australians'>link[/url'> Did a search on this website [url=https://www.moneysmart.gov.au/tools-and-resources/find-unclaimed-money/unclaimed-money-search'>link[/url'> and have found some money for my MIL, she will be so chuffed! Worth a search ladies.

thats the one! Good luck I have made many a happy purchase with it, DH was really surprised at the difference in prices between here and US. I just bought some 7 for all Mankind jeans for AED700 with delivery and they were AED1500 at the store at Dubai Mall. The mark ups here are sometimes out of this world.

there is a link on the SnS website for the credit card but for some reason I cant log in to SnS from work to post the link, this may be a good thing or my DH has been in touch with IT! Its easy to manage and I have used it to buy stuff from a few online stores (definitely not a good thing), they do charge a % for the honour of the card but its prepaid which helps. edited by littleone on 17/09/2014

Some stores will only accept a US credit card, but if you have a shop n ship account they have an affiliate that offers a US credit card facility. You need to sign up for it, they will provide you with credit card details with a US address (usually your SNS US address) and then you top it up directly from your account or from you paypal account. Some other EW users have had success when putting in their UAE credit card for payment by putting the country as US.

I had an awful experience with this company, when the guy wanted to cut the carpet in my car to replace the battery and the cost of the battery I thought was too high, I sent him away. I am fairly sure that the car manufacturer wouldn't have designed the car without having easy access to replace the battery. But yours sounds way over the top, could it have been a typo? I would definitely follow up with the insurer and ask for copies of the invoices and maybe ring other battery supply companies to get comparative prices.

This happened to me when I first arrived in Dubai and I posted on the forum just incase there was an unwritten rule that if you are in local attire that you must let everyone in. I was naive back then. I remembered one poster responded with a fantastic line to smile say to the line cutter "are you a really important person that you dont have to wait in line?" I have now used it a few times and the line cutter ususally get the gist of the question and saunters off, not always.

Enforcing the law regardless of the law broken should be done. Stiffer penalities, revoking licenses and increasing fines would be a bigger deterent. Bigger fines and more black points would see a reduction in people breaking the laws.

I have been fined for putting on lipstick while driving, was a nasty shock but fair enough I broke the law and I havent done it again. But there needs to be a serious clamp down on those on the phone that are driving at warped speed having a natter on their phones and wandering all over the lanes. Or those that slow down to crawl in the fast lane and concentrate on their call rather than the traffic banking up behind them.
