Our car broke down so we had it repaired at the Garage. The next day the mechanic called my husband to tell him it was ready to pick up... DH: So it's all fixed now... Mechanic: Yes sir, I've been testing it at high speed! Haha! Needless to say we checked to see if we had any speeding fines that day!

Thank-you! You've given me an idea! I love writing! Yes, should just write the story myself and then get them printed up! :)

abby_n_christina Sounds like you've had many years of experience with this. Will take your advice and deal with the tenant directly from now on. Since we're not always in Dubai we thought it would be convenient for a real estate agent to manage the property for us, but ever since this happened we'd rather do it ourselves. Tenants: you have the right to ask the LL to prove that they actually are the LL. Ask to see an original of the title deed - this proves that they own the place - as well as their Emirates ID. If whoever you are leasing it from says that the LL has given them power of attorney to do so, and they take a cheque payment from you in THIER name, red flags should be going up. Ask more questions such as.. "Shouldn't the cheque me made out to the landlord and not you?"

Here come the girls!! Just remember.. most guys at clubs are probably after one thing... But some genuinely are looking for a nice girl that's relationship material. So.. Have fun, but stay classy hehe ;) and if you meet someone you like, exchange numbers and suggest a lunch date.

I don't think it's impossible to do background checks.. When I was a tenant back in Aus I had to give personal character references, rental history, employment status etc. Yes, the rental payment system certainly needs to be changed. I really didn't want to get into a debate about this.. I originally posted just to warn both landlords and tenants that these scams are still going on.

I was on a girls' night out and met him at a club. At that time I wasn't even in the mood to meet someone, and I almost didn't go out that night. Luckily he approached me and we had a connection straight away. He asked me out on a date, and I guess we've been dating ever since!

Yes, I get what you're saying, that would be the fair thing to do. I guess if we dealt with this fraudster directly I might feel differently about it, but we've never even met the guy. We went through a real estate agent, and we told her we were aware of the rental scams, especially in the Greens. She was completely oblivious to it, never heard of that happening before. We trusted her to find a good tenant, that's her job. She's the one who found the tenant and put a criminal in our apartment. She clearly didn't do any background checks. Perhaps she should be liable and lose her commission?! That barely covers the cost of our legal fees anyhow..

I'm a bottle blonde and have been going to Fabiana's for 4 years. Rina is the salon owner and colourist. Not sure what products she uses, but she has had over 20 years experience. Most of her clients are Western ladies and she doesn't charge an arm and a leg! Al Hawaii Tower, S-Zayed Rd (near Shangri-la). 043434323.

Thanks for your feedback ladies. Of course I understand all of this, but we are not a charity case! Why should we be penalized for someone else's mistake?? This was a transaction made between 2 people that had nothing to do with us... Madge Gustard I agree wholeheartedly with you.. Monthly payments should be made directly to the landlord's bank account.. This would definitely solve the problem!

Hi SH12! I'm also Aussie and was single in Dubai for 2 years before I met my now husband.. And he's a real quality guy. Like you, I didn't want to settle for just anyone, he had to be 'the one!' I know exactly how you're feeling right now.. but be patient and stay positive, he just might be the next guy you meet! ;)

Yes! We have a 1br apartment in the Greens, 15 min walk from the Metro. Will be available in the next month or so. We've had problems with our previous tenant though - bounced cheque and sub-leasing illegally! So.. For this reason we will only accept one cheque in advance..

Thanks for your advice but I went to both of those places and neither of them do it anymore. (Just in case anyone else was wondering ;) )

Yes! Dr. Michael's clinic. 150 Dhs for a syringe full of gel. Leave the trays in overnight - You'll have enough gel for around 7 nights. Totally worth it!
