After a long wait, my husband and I were blessed with twins (both boys) on 7 June. I delivered through c-section in City Hospital with Dr. Elsa. The birth experience was fantastic; and I owe this completely to my doctor and the midwives. Although my twins were of low birth weight (only around 1700 and 1800 gms) at 34+ weeks, they turned out to be perfect little gifts and needed little nicu time for help with feeding. I'm very grateful for having met Dr. Elsa who was extremely compassionate and supported me throughout my difficult pregnancy and led us to a happy end.

I managed to make some enquiries. Medi-express is about 100 AED cheaper than Baby Steps for a normal 2 day service. If one would like to do all the paperwork on his own , it'd cost within 300 AED including attestation at MOFA. The only issue is the long queues and running around. If one starts at dawn from home, it may help :) This method however may save a good AED 600 if one is looking at twins birth certificate though as baby steps charges AED 1220 for a 24 hours service.

We delayed our notification as our LO didn't have a name for a while, but as soon as we told CH the name, I picked up the notification from them the next day, took my LO with me to Al Baraha, then went to have it stamped at the ministry of health and finished everything in one day. Having the baby with me, and being on my own was hard, but also meant I skipped a lot of queues. Try to get there when they open to save time. Also depending on what passport you need, I know the Brit embassy will issue an emergency passport to leave the country that day, and then you can get a real passport in the uk on the same day to save waiting. Hope that helps :) Thank you. Do you remember how much exactly you needed to pay at Al Baraha in all ?

Thanks Jalapeño. The whole process is clear to me now. I called baby steps. 24 hour quick service costs over AED 1220 for twins. I'm just curious - has anyone gone directly to al Baraha hospital to get the certificates done. If so, how much does it cost? If there is a huge difference in figures, my husband can spend a few hours at Preventive Medicine dept, MOH and MOFA and get this thing done. Pls pour in your suggestions. Thanks. edited by little_zuzu on 04/06/2012

Thanks Sparkly. I'm a bit confused here. After I posted my query here I called CH. Someone on phone told me CH issues a birth notification 5 days after delivery, which I need to take to Al Baraha hospital who will issue birth certificate. Any idea about this?

Sorry to barge in... Shinynewpony: congrats for twins. I'm just about 32 weeks with twins too; been on bed rest since 16th week because of few complications. Where are you scheduled to deliver? You may drop me a line at [email protected] if you'd like to chitchat. x edited by little_zuzu on 22/05/2012

Just want to add something about my experience with insurance for NT scan. I had it at the fertility clinic which is outside network. The insurance company refused to reimburse saying there is no justification for the scan. When I checked with my OB , apparently there's no justification. In Dubai, everyone does it. So I ended up paying :(

Can some twin mommas suggest - which is generally a better pram? Side by side or Tandem? I think I have to make a choice between iCandy and donkey, both very expensive in Dubai.

We fell pregnant with twins but lost the one early on...so just a standard pram. I'm probably just being petty I just hate taking so long to take it apart in the heat every day for school run :( Oh I'm really really sorry about that Pingu. :( I think you are not being petty or anything, all of us tend to like/dislike a product after actually using it.

Regarding cysts, I had a few formed due to ovarian hyper stimulation which I had during my fertility treatment. I think the cysts went away on their own. It didn't cause any problems for my pregnancy

Dr. Elsa is both a fantastic OB Gyn, as well as treats you like a human rather than just a as a case. She is very busy yet patiently answers all the questions. She's a high risk OB and has a proactive approach. She shares her personal number and responds promptly to any concerns via SMS.

I'm due to give birth to my twins in Latifa Hospital by the end of this month. I found the service to be very good, apart from the waiting time to see the doctor, yes average about 1hr. My advise is to try and get the first appointment of the day and you are less likely to wait for too long. I have been attending the Special Clinic for high risk pregnancies too, as refered by my doctor Al Shameem. She said she will be following me all the way to the delivery time and I have to say that all appointments I've had so far have been with same doctor ( 33 wks now, registered at Al Wasl at 22wks). Not sure about nuchal scans ( I had this done at a private clinic) but have been offered amniocentesis test at Latifa Hospital. In reference to Al Barari hospital I have been there too but was told that due to their limited number of incubators they could not garantee NICU for my twins if they would come early. They advised me to go to Latifa Hospital... Good luck with everything :-) Hi Dubai squirrel: could you tell me why are they asking you to do an amniocentesis ? Is it to Check whether twins' lungs are mature? Also, are you having a vaginal birth or a planned c?

LB: I was in your place just a few months ago all confused as to how and when i must register at Latifa. I don't have any personal experience with Latifa but am pg with twins now; and know a lady who delivered twins there last year Feb at 28 weeks. Her twins are doing great now; they received excellent care at nicu. But according to her, she wouldn't have delivered early if she were seeing a private gyne side by side. In Latifa, her appointments were limited, she saw a different OB each time, and missed out on some high risk care. As you may be aware, a twin pregnancy is high risk by default. She suggested me to see a private OB but register at Latifa and go for all of their appointments so that you can deliver there (it's the cheapest when it comes to delivery and nicu). Same thing was suggested by a triplet momma i know who saw a private gyne and delivered at Latifa and used their nicu. The reason I'm telling the above is just to give you a tip on to be prepared fully, as a twin pregnancy can be drastically different from a singleton pg, and the more prepared you are, the better. edited by little_zuzu on 07/05/2012

Thank you for all the responses. I was totally worried about a rupture or something horrible like that because of my gap (conceived 11 months after the 1st section). Sweet lily: your case inspires me. Kakariki : yours is even better. I just want to put the worries in the back of my head and believe in myself now. Thank you.

I went to Dr. P and got pg with twins after the first IUI attempt. I had only one consultation with him. Another doc and a nurse did the IUI. But I ended up having OHSS a few days after the IUI and Dr. P paid special attention to me and personally scanned me to monitor OHSS. I feel otherwise he's so busy with IVF patients that he may not see IUI ones. I was very worried about OHSS after reading horrible things on Google; but assurance from Dr. P helped me at that stage. He doesn't come across as totally soft and sweet; rather always hurried. But I believe he knows his stuff very well. I wish you all the best with your second attempt.

I've had 3 c sections i left my last one a 2 year gap between them, last one 6 months ago. I had sharp pains in my stomach in my last pregnancy nothing in previous and was more uncomfortable but with no spotting etc so doctor said nothing to worry about. I thought as it was a boy, i was carrying him different to the girls. Hi fairycake: thanks for the reply. Sorry, I didn't get how much gap you had between them. Are you saying you conceived again when you second baby was six months old?

Thanks champagne blonde and gingercat. I have no means to get the lollipops from UK. I can perhaps try bumgenius; but it'll be expensive for me. I know; it may be still cheaper than using pampers all the time, but with twins, I may need a lot of cloth nappies and 75 AED per piece is expensive (for me).

Ladybird, you seemed confused in your earlier comment: [i'>Lil-Z - to be honest I've only ask a couple of nurseries, one is located in the DIFC which was about 8 - 10 thousand for twins pm and another one I found was in Festival City which is 5 500 pm. By what M has just said, it almost seems like nurseries will be a bit cheaper,[/i'> Wouldnt the cost of a live-in nanny be less than nursery? If nursery is 5 - 10k pm, a nanny is the initial 10k sponsorship costs, plus her monthly salary/food/annual flight ticket/health insurance.. over a 12 month period, a nanny would be considerably less? Well, I had the same doubt when I saw LB's reply; but then I thought maybe am missing something.

Thank you. That's a very useful link. The review says junior nappies are good though. Did you face any issues with them (i mean did you use them)? They are quite cheap compared to others but of course, if they give rashes to the baby then they aren't good :( Is the arte souk in times square center all the time or just once in a week or something? When we say washable, are both inner prefolds and the outer plastic both washable? Sorry, if my question is stupid. I'm more inclined to go for the starter kid. 155 AED sounds reasonable for the whole kit? And can be used until the newborn outgrows them? Am expecting twins btw. If all goes well, will have them in June as its been (and continues) to be a difficult high risk pregnancy.

hi there... i use cloth nappies... and i bought them from a lovely lady who was selling them at the Arte Souk in Times Square Centre... since I was going to be using cloth nappies for the first time, she suggested I buy the starter kit for newborns from a company called REAL NAPPIES... the starter kit contains 3 Waterproof Covers (Nappies) + 12 Cotton Prefolds + 100 Pce Roll Of Biodegradable Liners. they do come in sizes... so you have Newborn, Infant, Crawler and Toddler... (depending on weight bracket)... Hi Abby, thanks for the response. I'm still expecting. But trying to do my homework in order to be prepared. Do you know of any other place apart from Arte souk that sells cloth nappies? I live in other end of Dubai. Newborn starter kit is a good idea. Do you recall how many changes your newborn needed in a day? And how much did the starter kit cost you? i bought the newborn one and my lil girl is now 3 months old so has outgrown her waterproof covers (white)... you're welcome to have them for AED 50/- for all three... I am still using the cotton prefolds and the liners with the next grade of nappies... how old is ur child? some companies such as BumGenius, TotBots, etc. make nappies that are One Size with adjustable strips (velcro) that can be used across weight brackets...

Are there sizes in cloth nappies similar to that in Huggies/pampers? How many cloth nappies ideally a newborn would require for a day? Organics cafe is selling them priced about 85 AED per piece. Any place in Dubai selling them a bit cheaper but still good quality?

Hi LB, am guessing a nursery is much more expensive than the figures you've quotes for a nanny below. However I'd be interested to know opinions of lovely ladies here

Hi ladybird: can you get some close family like mom or mil to stay with you until babies are 6 months old? Personally, I wouldn't be comfortable sending such a small baby to nursery. If having the family to help is not feasible, my other option would be a full time nanny, someone trustworthy and you can totally reply upon. I don't think hiring a full time nanny is a hassle as big as it seems to be. According to Dubai rules, you need to be staying in a minimum 2-bedroom flat to sponsor someone. Am pretty sure it works out cheaper than nurseries when you consider the overall cost and expenses. However, having a part time nanny is risky and can be dangerous for the kids' welfare. That would be a strict no-no for me.

Hi WB, it sounds like your cervix length is 2.5 cm, therefore, she prefers to watch it. In my case, mine measured a little less than 3 cm at 15 weeks. But am high risk anyway due to twins this time and a previous pregnancy loss due to preterm delivery at 30 weeks. Am only about 28 weeks now, but the stitch has helped me get this far. Am on modified bed rest since 16 weeks. However, I know a friend here in Dubai who had a stitch around 12 weeks and was leading a normal life, going to work. That's because it was her first pregnancy and a single baby. Bed rest or not, therefore, is case to case basis. If the stitch is placed electively (before the cervix opens), then in most cases docs don't recommend bed rest if everything else with the pg is normal.

Hi WB, am now pregnant with a cervical stitch, not because my cervix was open but because it had started showing signs of shortening. Therefore, am guessing I could be of some use to you. A normal, healthy cervix must definitely be equal to or above 3 cm in length at 12 weeks. Did your doc say that your cervix is shorter than this length or has it opened already? If its only shortened, perhaps she wants to keep you under observation, by doing frequent cervical checks. But if it's opened already, I think she must put a stitch now. Because as the baby grows in weight, it will only put more pressure on cervix. Am seeing Dr. Elsa in City Hospital, who did my stitch. I would highly recommend her for you to get a second opinion. Let me know if you have more questions.

@ladybird : with twins I guess there's always a risk of preterm delivery, you may have to check if Medcare has an equipped nicu.as far as am aware, they take babies only 32 weeks onwards. Latifa, city etc. take the babies much earlier. If you are looking for a package, it'll be sensible to register at Latifa , and see a private OB Gyn for check ups.

Drink plenty and eat healthily as you will become more easily drained and tired as the babies grow. My first twins (identical) pregnancy I was craving lots of things but didn't gain too much weight, but my second twin (fraternal) pregnancy, was totally different I wasn't well throughout and gained much more weight and had pregnancy diabetes too. First twins born naturally at 32 weeks and second set at 37 by emergency c-section. Don't panic and take each day as it comes. Our one brought two, and third brought three and four...... Can't remember he first few years as function on auto pilot but wouldn't chane things or he world......!!!! Hi Solo Did you not gaining lot of weight have anything to do with delivering at 32 weeks? This s scaring me because am just over 27 weeks now and haven't gained immense weight. Just about 20 pounds so far. Babies growth is on track touchwood. I was asked by my doc not to over-eat in order to prevent gestational diabetes; however, even with this weight gain I ended up failing my glucose test. Am monitoring my glucose levels from past 3 weeks and they are under control because I further cut down on carbs. In the last week, it looks like I haven't gained any weight at all :( Am hoping I won't go into preterm labour because of my weight. An a small person btw and was only about 100 pounds to start with. edited by little_zuzu on 19/04/2012 edited by little_zuzu on 19/04/2012
