I'm not saying that this is Driftingsandy's case but I strongly dislike it when a poster comes on here, gets all of us worried about her situation, whatever it may be, and then not bothering to update us again. A lot of posters do this, although I am not saying this is Driftingsandy's case.... She asked for advice, not involvement...........and certainly didn't invite any of us into the rest of her life. This is a forum, not a soap opera. I am sure she has other things on her mind than worrying about her ratings. Firstly, I was not referring to her. Secondly, it would be common courtesy of any poster who comes on here with a crisis situation to update us all if possible. In crises, manners tend to go out of the window. And this is a public and anonymous forum, not a cosy flatshare. Besides, shouldn't we be giving our help and advice freely, without wanting payback? That's your opinion and that is fine. But some posters have spoken about going to her house, so surely an update from her, if possible, would be good. Well. that wasn't the smartest or most sensitive move either. As I said this is not a soap.

I think you may be overreacting...........quite apart from the fact that most bars in Dubai are "hookers bars" it really does sound like just "boys" talk. You know.........all mouth and trousers? Oh and edited to add..............maybe the clients expect to be taken to the Ascot? Doesn't mean to say your DH is going to avail himself of the action!) edited by Livelytrish on 24/05/2011

There's no need to give it a name, whether this man has a syndrome or a disorder, the OP (hopefully) has had a timely warning and will bail out before she makes a huge mistake by marrying the wrong man.

It really doesn't matter whether he says these things because he lacks empathy, has Aspergers, has never learned the need for tact or is simply just a b@stard. The fact he feels this way should be enough to make the OP seriously rethink her marriage. Sometimes a less than perfect childhood leaves us with not just low self worth, but low expectation of how we deserve to be treated by others. (Which I suppose amounts to the same thing) OP, we'd all hate to see you posting on here in a couple of years time about an unhappy or abusive marriage, you left home, leave him........and fast.

DH is fine now, it's me! Took two of his pills by mistake, (the idiot had put them in a pack of of Pomstam) - 300mg, which sent me into a marble free zone, but at least no anxiety! When I read up on the pills it seemed a (much) smaller dose might help. I don't think they prescribe them here but if OTC in UAE he could pick some up for me.

Sooooooooo. if you are aware of abnormal responses, particularly to risk awareness, get some help. in most cases it's quite simply serotinin levels out of whack. No fun going through life waiting for the shoe to fall.

Nothing new about feeling like this.........Roger Bacon, in the sixteenth century described our children as our "hostages to fortune". We just have to take reasonable precautions, with a realistic risk assessment, and hope for the best. Any other way, therein lies madness.

Not unless they are vented outside, but the usual arrangement in Dubai is simply a grease filter, they do work in the sense they keep the grease off the rest off the kitchen........as long as you can source replacement filters!

I once had a conversation with an Emirati woman about this very thing - she said her baby would scream if he was in a car seat and said she could hold onto him in the event of an accident. I explained the force of even a low-speed impact would wrench the baby from her arms and send him careening through the windscreen. She just smiled and changed the subject. So while I think many people 'know' about car seats, I do not necessarily think everyone fully understands the consequences of their actions. And I am not being condescending - in many countries we have had education, advertising and laws promoting and mandating the use of seat belts and car seats for decades - this is not the case here (yet), and thus I do not think it can be assumed that everyone 'knows' the dangers of not strapping an infant or child into a car seat. Culture, tradition and habits are deeply engrained - it is very difficult to changes peoples' minds, never mind their behaviour. Redlesley - thank you for your work on this - one day it will be law in the UAE for children to be strapped into car seats, and the law will be enforced. This will be in no small part down to the work you are doing now. About four years ago, there was an horrific accident in which an entire car load of adults and children, all bar a tiny baby, were wiped out in what should have been a relatively survivable accident, when a car ran off the road and rolled. The official take, as published in every local newspaper was the heroism of the mother...........her unrestrained baby had its fall cushioned by the dead body of its unrestrained mother. There's not a lot you can say to that kind of reasoning.

There's a shop behind Magrudys on the Beach Road that sells hats and other stuff that might be suitable for wedding. Go to Debenhams to see what sort of things are in the shops at the moment. Of course, if your budget allows, you could have a look at one of the higher end department stores too. Harvey Nicks, Saks, Bloomingdales etc etc. I would try my best to get fixed up here because you will feel under so much pressure to get something if you leave it til you go home and could end up with something that you don't really want bought in panic mode. Oh, and perhaps your first purchase should be some super duper tummy control pants. They are a miracle ;) How exciting for you. The shop is called Eve Michelle......they stock some lovely classy lady clothes.........including Frank Usher. You could always check out Frank Usher website for ideas also, they have a good bridal selection incl mother of bride etc....and either have E-M order or have it copied in Dubai.

I don't think LT meant to be mean at all. I know when DS was tiny I read as many books as I could get my hands on, because I felt totally and utterly lost and bewildered by it all, and it made me even more ridiculously insecure and unsure of myself. In the end my Mum told me to stop worrying so much and just get on with it. At the time I thought she was being unsympathetic, though! I did feel as though lots of other mums were taking their babies to this class, that class and the next class - which made me question if I was doing the right thing by not taking DS - but in the end we preferred to visit friends with babies, meet up in coffee shops and just spend time together. We do the same now, although we've added in soft play areas now he's bigger, and he's a happy, well-adjusted little man. It's so hard in this heat. You basically have a choice of coffee shops and malls, or organised classes which are often expensive for what babies get from them. I think Mini Monsters have a few classes organised now, but I'm not sure of the age groups. Two hours isn't much daytime sleep for 8 weeks old. Or, more to the point, it isn't much me-time for you. It seems we really can't have it all - they either sleep all night or all day! Little s0ds just like to keep us on our toes :D. Thankyou DC.......and no, I wasn't being mean. But OP's overly sensitive response is a bit worrying.............and please OP, don't throw another tantie.......but you are obviously feeling quite vulnerable, so please take care, remember your emotions are on overdrive, and try not to pressure yourself.

I think OP is just a very new and insecure mum - who has done too much reading of the wrong baby books. At eight weeks, all a babe needs is calm and cuddles, stimulation and learning come much much later. The mercenary idiots who have made an industry out of Baby Einstein etc should be taken out and shot.

37 weeks..............listen, the next three are not critical to Bubs. Stop worrying, there are no prizes for delivering on 40 weeks to the day.............37 weeks barely counts as prem. Just monitor your symptoms......swollen ankles, headache........ call your obs or go straight to your delivery hospital.

You are both right, thanks for replying. I havent noticed any symptoms yet, baby is moving fine. I am just sad as can be now and a little paranoid too. May get a machine to have BP tested at home. I wonder how long before the inevitable happens, I feel I may get a week at most. DD1 was premature and I was really hoping things would go better this time around! Try not to worry and concentrate on the positive............at least you'll miss out on the huge beached whale last few weeks. BTW how many weeks are you?

Be guided by your doc..........everyone wants to go full term, but high BP is an indicator of potential pre eclampsia. As long as your urine tests are clear of protein you should be ok, but take care........and if you develop a headache call him/her immediately.

...Doha *hopes this doesn't get moved*. DH is talking to friends moving to Doha. I've heard mixed reports about how easy is it to buy booze whilst living over there. Are many bars/restaurants licensed to sell it? Are there outlets like A&E/MMI over there? TIA No bars as such, but restaurants attached to hotels are licensed, and yes, there is a booze souk like MMi.

Agreed, but some airlines - although flying with older, less well-equipped aircraft - can deliver consistently good service. EK falls into the hit-and-miss category, with quite a bit of 'miss'. I fly them because they have a huge number of routes, good flight times, and a good entertainment system. I don't fly them because of their service. And yeah, Air Canada. Hmmmm... Coming back with them last year our section had no entertainment and no lights. When someone complained the steward said, "But we do have wings, fuel and alcohol" :) You just have to love Canadian humour.

[i'>[b'>Not surprised at the half empty planes. DH looked online yesterday and an Emirates flight came up with 4715 dirhams, Virgin came up at 2585 dirhams for the same date[/b'>[u'>[/u'>[/i'> Where in the world do you get your statistics from? Emirates? Half empty planes??? Ha!!!! We are staff and can barely get a flight anywhere on standby tickets cause they are always full! As for the price YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR! Emirates has never claimed to be a discount airline and they never will be. Millions of people, in over a 100 countries choose to pay their high prices and fly with them every year. I am so glad your sour comments, don't determine anything for us. The ones who fly with us, gave us a profit of over 5 BILLION dirhams last year, giving us a 12 week bonus!!! [url=http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php'>[img'>http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-laughing001.gif[/img'>[/url'> edited by Irooni on 10/05/2011 edited by Irooni on 10/05/2011 well, i've always defended Emirates on here - always excellent value and service, comfortable seats, fab entertainment, and our children always get treated well etc etc... but i have to say that the attitude above kinda pees me off (will be looking at all the trolley dollies from now on wondering if they all think like this :() I have been a huge fan of Emirates for years........they fly to the places DH and I need to travel to, the aircraft are new or newish, the food is edible (tho not what it was sadly) the seats comfortable and after the h@ll of JFK or Thiefrow is always seems like a little oasis of peace and civility. BUT.........over the last few years I have noticed (and has DH, who usually flies Ist - on business, I hasten to add!!) that the cabin crew seem far more concerned with their own enjoyment of the flight than that of their passengers. Unless of course, there is an "eligible" male on board. Sorry if this offends EK cabin crew, but a little less cat walking down the aisles and a bit more customer awareness might do wonders for their PR!

Irooni the Middletons run their own business and are self made millionaires, £250 K is not that large amount for such a wedding contribution. The rest of the money was mainly Royal family and then the State (UK tax payer) paid for security/policing etc. To add that Prince William's net worth is around 28 million sterling. Some weddings held in this region still top the list as the most expensive weddings in history. As LT says the income generated by this one event for the UK will far outweigh the spend.:\: edited by Sticky Wicket on 01/05/2011 I was talking about the Middletons........not "The Firm".... ;);)

Can't say it was shared, as the wedding has cost over 10 million. Nonetheless, 250,000 is a lot of money for non-royals! It's probably the best business investment the family ever made..........

A wife takes her husband's "estate", not the other way around. Thus, technically the Queen became on marriage Duchess of Edinburgh, but she is a Queen Regnant in her own right, since she was heir to the Throne. Had Philip been Heir to the Throne, she would have been Queen Consort. As will the new Duchess of Cambridge, in her turn.

Dubia London Clinic have some superb lady GP's, highly competent, and less likely to subject you to a barrage of unnecessary and highly expensive tests than some clinics. A good GP should be your first port of call, good luck!
