Um Suqeem park is lovely for that sort of thing too and you get a nice cool breeze off the sea. Just make sure you do it on a weekend if you want to include men as it's ladies only sun-thurs.

Had my first scan today and it's twins! Still quite nervous though as no hbs yet, apparently I ovulated a bit later in the cycle, going back in 10 days to see how things are progressing. It looks as though I'm closer to 5 wks then 6 which might put my dd at 01.07, though shall stick with you ladies for the moment ;-)

Hi dibdab, I've been to Phuket twice, once to http://www.katathani.com/location.html in kata noi and once further to the north near the lagoon. I preferred the beach in kata noi, it's about an hour from the airport. Have a nice holiday!

See Kai Run shoes, they can buy them on diapers.com. They are really soft and fabulous for new walkers, and about USD 30 in the states and more than 250 AED at Kidville.

... At 38.5 you should give a Tylenol suppository... May I suggest you *could*, as opposed to *should* give a suppository? I'm a massive fan on the supp, as my middle child cannot keep oral medicines down when she has a fever. Suppositories are as safe as oral medicines when given appropriately, but they are an option to consider, not a *should*. ;) Suppositories are the fastest way to get a fever down, and at 38.5 you really *should* get it down. If you take a child to the hospital with a high fever they will be given a suppository there, so you *could* just go straight to the hospital and let them do it there ;-) Glad to hear he's feeling better!

Rosella is really hard to diagnose until the rash comes out. Normally it's 3 days of very high fever with no other symptoms except general unhappiness and then the rash comes out when the fever breaks, at which point the kiddo starts to feel a lot better. At 38.5 you should give a Tylenol suppository, if it hasn't gone below 38 an hour after that you should head to the hospital. . . Hope he's feeling better and all are happily sleeping now :-)

Oh dear do hope you're not talking about me, did our kids fight today? My suggestion would be to have an honest talk with your friend, she might have ideas about how to limit fights, know situations where her lo is less aggressive, etc.

We have a house in Paradou, about 15 minutes from St. Remy de Provence and 15 minutes from Arles. We love it here, the weather is gorgeous and life is good :-). We are french speakers so I'm not sure what its like for enlish people here, but there are a lot of Brits in St. Remy so I guess there must be some activities for kids. We are about an hour from the coast and bicycling is very popular though I tend to do more relaxing by the pool.

There's a banana boat spray that you can buy at waitrose that is absolutely brilliant! It only takes about 15 seconds to coat the whole baby and is spf 70. You just spray, don't even need to rub. A few minutes after application it's not sticky. We use the regular 70 one and not the one that's specifically for kids though, because for some reason the one for kids has parabens in it while the regular one doesn't. We usually use that on ds's body and mustella on his face, just because i worry that the other one might burn if it goes in his eyes.

I just did this with my 15 mo a few weeks ago and a couple of things made it a little easier but do have someone waiting for you with a large glass of wine :-) The best thing were those little boxes of raisins that the kid has to pry out. My lo probably ate 10 of them during the trip. I also put animal cookies in one of those snack holders, fishing them out kept him occupied for awhile. I bought him the fisherprice laptop from elc for the trip and he enjoyed playing with that. To be honest no toy kept him occupied for more than 2-3 minutes at a time. There's not much you can do other than try to laugh and remember how happy you'll be to get there. Good luck!

There actually is a BLW group in Dubai. We started getting together about 8 months ago and our babies are a bit older now so more in the transitioning to plain old eating phase but Tanya set up a facebook group that is still active. I'd be happy to meet with people too when I'm back in Dubai at the end of august, but talk about small worlds I'm in provence now :-) The facebook group is called Baby-Led Weaning - Dubai, you just need to request to join.

I'm not really worried about his solids intake, he's eating everything we eat and 3 full meals and two snacks a day, which makes me think it's a comfort thing and not really a hunger issue. I never did the purees and he took to real food very well from the start. He drinks water out of a doidy or straw cup, so i know he's able. It seems counterintuitive to reintroduce a bottle now,but maybe if that's the only way to get him on milk. . . When i used to express he drank a lot up till about 10 months and then really diminished. The last time i left an expressed bottle for him at around a year he only had about 50ml instead of the 130 from before, so maybe he's just not interested in milk anymore.

He does eat quite a bit of cheese, though he's not big on yogurt. I'm more of less doing the don't offer don't refuse now, though i do try to distract him a bit before naps. I always forget to ask my ped why, but he's told me a number of times that his limit is 15 months. In general I quite like him and his philosophy, and either way after 14 months I'm ready for a break, especially as I'm starting to think about no 2.

To be honest I'm a bit surprised about how worked up people are about men coming to a café in a play area. It's true that it's quite noisy and dreadful on the free monday mornings but at some other times during the week is no worse than your average food court. It seems a sad vision of the world to think that anyone going there would be doing so for the wrong reasons. It's also worth pointing out that the most common perpetrator of sexual abuse is a member of the family, so the danger posed by random bachelors is rather exaggerated in my opinion. That being said, I am not naive and keep an eye on my child, whether at mm or the mall or anywhere else. I've decided not to go to mm on monday mornings anymore because there are just too many kids and I don't think it's safe for my 14 mo with all the big kids tumbling around and people streaming in and out of the gate. However, at other times (before school lets out and during the week) with some basic common sense parental supervision it's okay for us. If it's not for you than that's okay too, on boards like this we should be able to have differences of opinion and respect each others parenting decisions.

At least order the furniture soon, it took about 6 weeks for us to get our crib etc. Also remember that supplies run out in dubai, so if you see something you want you should buy it right away instead of going back a few weeks later only to be disapointed.

Definitely Reflets for me. Fab food and excellent service. Pierchic has a lovely setting but found the service a bit too aggresive and the food was nothing special. Rhodes mezzanine was a bit of a disapointment too. Have you considered Ossiano at Atlantis? That would be my choice for most romantic in dubai.

Reflets is far and away my favourite restaurant in Dubai, but just to warn you you might find it over the top. There is a prix fixe menu at about 600 pp, otherwise the a la carte is much more expensive. The ambiance is lovely, but it's definitely a formal French meal.

We stayed at the Hilton arcadia http://hilton.ebrochures.org/media/output/B0EOuw-LKQK8lFbJjEiwAROkvnjrl3sMAR-201103291040590.pdf/RLCACHE/HKTHI_full.pdf It was about 45 mins from the airport and an easy 15 minute walk/ 5 minute tuk tuk into Karon. We left the hotel for dinner most nights but ate lunch at the hotel, which was quite good. There were a a couple of good pools and a nice beach. I didn't try the spa but the room was nice and very quiet. The waves at the beach were calm enough to take a small child in. Prechild i would have preferred a more authentic Thai experience, but with a lo it was very easy and i'd go back in a second.

Our first meal was chicken, steamed carrots and asparagus. We were really surprised that he loved the asparagus. We just gave him what we were eating, but some other first food ideas that work well are roasted sweet potatoes, ripe mangoes, cucumbers, french toast and steamed broccoli.

I'm a huge fan of baby led weaning. We started ds on french fry shaped pieces of food at about 6 months and now at almost a year he's a great eater. He loves meat, fish, chicken, all fruit and some vegetables. He also likes pasta and eggs. Meal times are a pleasure, we all sit around the table and eat, there is no begging the baby to eat or trying to sneak food in. He likes sitting at the table and enjoys going to restaurants! The other week we took him to brunch and he sat happily at the table trying things for 2 hours! The down sides are that 1) it's messy and2) it's time consuming. Most of the time it's lovely to share a leisurely meal but sometimes it would be practical to do a 5 minute breakfast on the way out the door. If you are interested in blw definitely check out Gil Rapley's book. There is a blw dubai facebook group as well.

we tried the goose liver cooked by pan with butter at bubblicious, and it impressed us alot and it was DELICIOUS! just want to know where we can buy the high quality packaged raw goose liver here in dubai, then i can cook home@! thx. Just wanted to mention that you shouldn't cook it with butter. Foie gras is all fat anyways so it doesn't need any added butter. The best way to do it is to get a dry pan very hot, dip the slice of foie gras in a bit of flour and then cook it at high heat for about 1 minute per side.
