Thanks ladies. Will give those a try. Where exactly is Mena Bazaar? Also, has anyone been to Label 24 in Bur Dubai? Was just looking on their facebook page and like some of their designs, but guessing they might be quite pricey?? edited by LMAO-DXB on 12/08/2011

Balance Cafe in Oasis mall is really nice and well priced. they put all the calories / fat / carbs etc under each item on the menu so you know exactly what you're getting. and they do some really yummy low fat desserts too! :) HTH. spoilsports !!! :D :D Hahaha! I dont go there often Sue, normally just when I'm feeling particularly guilty, usually after an over indulgent weekend and feel the need to try and redeem myself!! ;)

I agree, it is extremely shameful how much food goes to waste during Ramadan. But that is the fault of ignorant people who do not truly understand their religion...not Islam :) hey all. Ramadan Kareem. Just to add to the above statement - all that wasted food is shameful during Ramadan. However how much food is wasted at the Friday brunches every week for the other 11 months?? its all a bit Dubai really LMAO edited by LMAO-DXB on 31/07/2011

Hi Chocs. There should be a language button somewhere on your remote to change between arabic and english, but some programmes are only in arabic (as i think they're originally in spanish or something). I've got Fox on at the mo (but not on OSN) and the Interior Design type prog thats on at the mo is one of those that isnt in English. There's another one that comes on called Blind Date thats the same, but all the others (ER, Scrubs, Private Practice etc) you should still be able to switch to English. HTH :)

Thanks Saltire. I was also thinking its unlikely to be legal. I wasnt really too bothered until DH started talking about it but its got me a bit worried now too, especially as you hear stories in the press about women being attacked and then them being the ones that get in trouble with the law!!

Go to Dubai airport, T1, up the stairs on right hand side. Place is dead - 200aed and passport is all that is required. Was done in about 15 mins. Think they are airport staff so probably work 8am - 2.30pm so probably best leaving until tomorrow. I've been there in an evening, prob around 8-9pm and its always been open. :)

Kaussie, I think its at Terminal1 Departures (someone pls correct me if im wrong and its arrivals!) You have to go up to the first floor then the E-gate desks are pretty obvious when you get up there - i think they're over to the right. Its quick and painless! :)

Sorry, I am of no help re the below questions. I'm having so much fun with my e-gate card I'm not sure whether to post on this thread or the 'Overheard at Mc D's' thread!! Since last using it successfully at the end of last year, I have changed visa's (new job, so now have an Abu Dhabi visa), and then on top of that have a renewed passport. So, I have, a new visa in an expired passport + new passport + old e-gate card. Thought it might take some time to sort out so left buckets of time when we flew last month and visited the desk at the airport. Chap taps on his keyboard for 5 mins and hands all back to me saying, all is fine, proceed to e-gate / passport control. Get to e-gate control, access denied. I explain all to chap at the control point (ie that I HAD bothered to visit the previous desk to sort out card vs new visa, passport etc and enquired what needed to be done to my card to make sure it worked), chap at control taps on his keyboard for 5 mins and says, all is fine, system just not updated yet, you'll be fine on the way back in. 10 days later we land back at DXB (with our honeymoon glow), and smugly bypass the passport queues for e-gate control. Access denied :-( Chap taps on his keyboard for 10 mins, looks confused, taps for a few more mins, then asks if I have an Abu Dhabi visa ..... errrrr yes, as it states in my passport...... I then try to explain again re old passport + new visa + new passport + I had seen 2 e-gate officials 10 days ago who said my e-gate card would be fine ...... he looked confused, mentioned something about the fact I now have an AD visa, and my egate card is registered with my old passport and to visit one of the other e-gate offices to get it sorted. Arrrggghhhh!!! Not got round to it yet, can't bare the pain, but we fly again next month so I need to gather my patience and go ...... wonder if I'll get through control next time or whether I'll still be access denied!!! Sorry for the rant!! The thread brought it all back to me! NORMALLY, e-gate is a wonderful card, and yes, I hear that one day, they'll integrate it with the national ID card which will be nice in terms of not having to have quite so many slots in ones purse! I have similar probs. I got my e-gate card when i was on my own visa (Dubai) but have since transferred onto hubby's visa (Sharjah) so my e-gate card no-longer works. have been told a multitude of different things i need to do to get it sorted including going to Sharjah immigration!! No thanks! So now, I'm sneaky about it! I always travel with hubby, so he goes thru e-gate first, then i follow, try and use my card (which i know wont work!) then do the whole dizzy blonde "I dont understand why it isnt working!!" and with a bit of eyelash fluttering, one of the e-gate guys always takes pity and comes over to help me, finds it wont work then just stamps me through! Works like a charm every time and still takes far less time than standing in the queues!! :D

OK, try this: http://www.dubaifaqs.com/visa-husband-wife-dubai.php Ah, excellent! Thank you! It also says: "Wives can only sponsor their husbands if she is in a restricted list of professions for example teacher, doctor, engineer or equivalent. She must have a minimum salary of AED 5000. Dubai rules might be more flexible on occupation if the wife is earning more than AED 10,000" Is there a full list anywhere of these professions? I've been googling away all morning but really struggling to find what I'm looking for. :(

Just wondering if anyone knows how much this vaccine costs and of any good vets around Barsha/Greens/Springs/Marina area to go to for it? TIA! :)

There's a restaurant at Al Qasr called Khaymat Al Bahar. Its has beautiful views out on to the pool and has a number of rooms going off the main area where they have the buffet food. I think they do al a carte aswell. We went there in a group for a friend's birthday dinner last year and had one of these rooms just for our group. Sorry, I haven't described it very well but it was beautiful and would be fab for a small wedding reception IMO. Worth a look! Good luck! :)

Hi MikaelaaD! Congrats on your new villa! Please please please contact K9 Friends and see if they have any puppies / older dogs you might be interested in. They're doing an amazing job but they're full to the brim at the moment! They have some absolutely beautiful dogs there. I would definitely recommend getting a rescue dog rather than trusting the pet shops or bringing in another one from abroad when there are already so many here that just need a loving home! Have a look on their face book page for their contact details. HTH!

I just had to post the rest of that article - I think he's hilarious!!! :D ON WOMEN ‘British women can’t cook.’ Endearing himself to the Scottish Women’s Institute in 1961. ‘Ah, so this is feminist corner then.’ To a group of female Labour MPs at a Buckingham Palace drinks party in 2000. ‘You are a woman, aren’t you?’ To a Kenyan woman in 1984, after accepting a state gift. ‘If it doesn’t fart or eat hay, she isn’t interested.’ On his daughter, Princess Anne. ‘When a man opens the car door for his wife, it’s either a new car or a new wife.’ ON CELEBRITY ‘What do you gargle with — pebbles?’ To Tom Jones, after the Royal Variety Performance, 1969. He later added: ‘It is very difficult at all to see how it is possible to become immensely valuable by singing what I think are the most hideous songs.’ ‘Oh, it’s you that owns that ghastly car, is it? We often see it when driving to Windsor Castle.’ To near-neighbour Elton John after hearing that he had sold his Watford FC-themed Aston Martin in 2001. ‘I wish he’d turn the microphone off!’ During Elton John’s performance at the 73rd Royal Variety Show in 2001. ON FOOD & DRINK ‘Get me a beer. I don’t care what kind it is, just get me a beer!’ On being offered fine Italian wines by Prime Minister Giuliano Amato at a dinner in Rome in 2000. ‘Don’t feed your rabbits pawpaw fruit — it acts as a contraceptive. Then again, it might not work on rabbits.’ To a Caribbean rabbit breeder in Anguilla in 1994. ON CLASS & MONEY ‘People think there’s a rigid class system here, but dukes have been known to marry chorus girls. Some have even married Americans.’ In 2000. ‘If you travel as much as we do, you appreciate the improvements in aircraft design of less noise and more comfort, provided you don’t travel in something called economy class, which sounds ghastly.’ To the Aircraft Research Association in 2002. ‘All money nowadays seems to be produced with a natural homing instinct for the Treasury.’ Lamenting the rate of British tax in 1963. ‘We go into the red next year. I shall probably have to give up polo.’ On the Royal Family’s finances in 1969. ‘Everybody was saying we must have more leisure. Now they are complaining they are unemployed.’ Said at the height of the recession in 1981. ON ART & FASHION ‘You didn’t design your beard too well, did you? You really must try better with your beard.’ To a young fashion designer at Buckingham Palace in 2009. ‘It looks like the kind of thing my daughter would bring back from her school art lessons.’ On seeing an exhibition of ‘primitive’ Ethiopian art in 1965. ON THE PRESS ‘You have mosquitos. I have the Press.’ To the matron of a hospital in the Caribbean.

I just want to find a good hair dresser!! I dont care if they're mobile or in a salon! After various hair disasters here, Im terrified to let anyone touch my hair!! So if she's Tony & Guy trained and does come over here, PLEASE let us know! I'd definitely give her a go, and I know quite a few of my friends probably would too! I hate having to pay someone in a salon for washing my hair - I can do it myself!!

Sorted!! :D My husband is just Sooooo amazing!!! So, for ours to change from heating to cooling: Press and hold the "Set" button for 3-5 secs either a H (for heating) or a C (for cooling) will appear on the screen, to change it from one to the other press either the + or - button and it should switch between the 2. It then shows a flame next to the temp when heating, and a snowflake when its cooling. Simple as that!! My god I love my hubby! No need for sleepin on the sofa after all!! :D Hope this helps you too Kelly and JC!

Hi Kaash, I would recommend either Neasa or Zarin at City. They are both Western trained, highly qualified and very experienced. They're both excellent! Physio treatment varies dependent on the condition and its presentation. There are many different treatment methods - sometimes machines can be used but it can also be exercise based, or things like manual techniques, acupuncture, dry needling, taping......the list is huge! I would personally always choose someone western trained, and as I said, both of these girls are fab! HTH
