Thanks for the advice ladies. just managed to find out the bank they are dealing with and called to check if this is their normal procedure and apparently it is not (funnily enough!!). So hopefully it was a mis-communication on the part of the person they spoke to in branch and not someone trying to do us over!! Thanks for the speedy response! You gals know everything!! ;)

Hi All, need some advice.... Someone has offered to buy our car which is up for sale, however they need to arrange the finance through their bank. They are asking DH for: Evaluation Report from car manufacturer Copy of DH's PP Copy of vehicle registration card Since we have never done this before, is the request valid with what the requirements are for arranging a car loan to buy a car privately?? TIA

hmmm....i hadn't thought about that. There were lots of people around where the incident happened and i think probably saw much more of it than i did. I only saw the back end of it and the direction the men ran to. they had gone by time the police arrived and i couldn't get down to speak to the police because of my baby. I couldn't identify the men apart from describe their clothing, but again, there were other people who had been there and were only a few feet from them. Do you think i should try and contact someone about it? not sure what to do now. :s

Im often out going for walks with my baby during the day, or walking my dog alone late at night and so far I've always felt very safe..... edited by LMAO-DXB on 31/01/2013

Hey ladies. Just wanted to give an update. I saw the poorly pooch today and am really happy to tell you he is doing great! Still not quite 100% but is home and recovering well after a very traumatic few days. He did not eat anything which caused his illness but apparently the Greens is being sprayed every few days for a tick problem, so its possible that he walked over a newly sprayed area then went home and licked his paws...Although of course it cant be proven that this was the cause. Please, please be careful around the grassy areas there, not only with your fur-babies but also children - IF this was the cause and this 21kg pooch was so poorly from a lick of his paws, imagine how devastating it could be to a child if they drop their toy on the grass then put it in their mouth! As i said, its not proven that this was the source but seems the most likely under the circumstances. Thanks for checking in on him - will let his human mom know! :)

you might want to give that one a wide birth october. i remember a thread a while ago where another EW'er went to Happy Valley only to find that it more geared to a male clientele and it wasn't just the Valley that was happy, if you know what i mean!! they also had a rather interesting FB page with some very explicit requests from their liker's. just tried to find the page for you but it looks like their security settings are somewhat more strict than they were. Maybe they've cleaned up their act (excuse the pun!!) but think id be finding somewhere else for a massage. will see if i can find the thread for you....

Hey ladies We're going to UK for 2 weeks soon and cant decide what to do about my 4 month old DD's routine to cause the least amount of disruption and stress. Do i keep her routine as per DXB time (which would mean starting my day at 4am as she usually has her morning feed at 8 and then every 3 hrs from there on in) or go by UK time and risk having a nightmare trying to get her back into her normal routine when we get back home. Either way i think im going to end up sleep deprived! :( what do you normally do? TIA! xx

My sister doesnt want to go on a desert safari, so i'd thought of maybe Bab Al Shams - do you know if you can do the camel ride there if you're just making a dinner reservation or do you have to be staying at the hotel? Hey ladies Planning in advance and trying to decide what will be the best gadget to help when Im weaning DD onto solids. Saw the Baby Bullet on Groupon (see link) and it looks great, but I cant decide if it would be better to get something like this or something that's a combined steamer and food processor all in one. Storage in our kitchen is an issue so dont want too many gadgets. What would you suggest? http://www.groupon.ae/deals/national-deal/Groupon-Direct-207007/11413976?nlp=&CID=AE_CRM_1_0_0_285&a=2026 TIA! :)

Thanks for your replies ladies! Im sorry to hear what you've been thru! Counting my blessings that i dont feel as bad as you all seem to have felt but can certainly relate to many of the things you have said, especially about feeling angry! I really want to try and avoid having to see dr's, go on meds etc, but i can feel myself wanting to withdraw from everyone else so im trying really hard to push myself to go and see people even tho i really dont feel like it, and started an exercise class with a friend lastnight just to try and get out a bit more. I've already been seeing dr delphine from a lactation perspective - she's amazing! if i start to feel things are getting worse or out of my control, i think i'll definitely speak to her about it. DC, I think a PND website sounds like a fantastic idea! was just looking over some of the older threads and it sounds like it would be an extremely valuable resource for many ladies over here! Good on you for wanting to set something up! Thanks again for your replies, i know how hard it must be to talk about it so i really appreciate you sharing it with me! xx

Thanks for all the replies and the suggestions of who to contact. Mushypeas, I get what you're saying about them covering themselves so to speak, but from what i understand, this isnt the case. She wants them to book her a flight, take her to the airport and wave her off on her way home but they are refusing to do so. They cancelled her visa just before the start of the school summer holidays, saying that they had a new maid in the pipeline, so as soon as she started, the current one would be leaving. Apparently the new maid fell through so the family are refusing to let the current one go until they have a new one, however it is likely from certain circumstances and things that have been said, that they aren't actually looking for a new one, knowing that their current one cant do anything but stay until they actually let her leave. Her safety appears to possibly be at risk which is why my friend is so keen to try and help her. Her situation is well known but no-one is prepared to try and help because of the family involved. I will pass on the suggestions that have been made and hope she can get some sound advice and help. Thanks again! :)

Hi Ladies, Thanks for your replies. I know its a tricky one and my friend really wants to help this lady but is worried about getting them both in to trouble if she accidentally goes about it in the wrong way. I suggested maybe she should take the maid to her embassy to get advice from there, but my friend says she read somewhere that if you are in the country illegally (which this maid now is as her visa has been cancelled) and you go to the embassy, they will immediately call the police, which would then get her in a whole heap of other trouble when apparently all she wants is to go home. Does anyone know if this is true? I thought that your embassy was supposed to be there to help you and if your passport was being held by someone they could assist you in getting a replacement / emergency one to be able to leave (as has been suggested in many threads where there have been problems in marriages and the husband is holding the wife's passport etc...?)

Thanks for all the replies. she will be 4 months when we fly, and she's only a little girl too - still has plenty of room in her moses basket even at 12 weeks! Sounds like its probably worth getting the bassinet seats then. Just out of interest too, do you find it better taking your LO's on a day flight or night flight? Does one have less impact on their routine compared to the other (not that she's in a particularly structured daytime routine at the mo) or does it make little difference?

Completely agree. Problem is that lots of people, for some reason seem to think they're safer buying from a store than adopting a rescue. Municipality seems like a good start, I'd make sure the vet has a report on the dog so you can use it against them.. Should you have to go somewhere else to report Im sure Municipality will be able to tell you where to go. Fab! Sounds like a good plan! Im just disgusted and appalled! I really hope the municipality (or whoever) take it seriously and do something about it! people like this should not be allowed to get away with it!

Thanks for all the info Kiwi (and everyone else!!) Kiwi, I've stopped the formula top ups now and the reflux definitely seems to be way better, which is odd as i'd been told to give her the formula (AR) to combat the reflux in the first place. Had been giving infant gaviscon, which seemed to help but made her really constipated, so the formula was supposed to kill 2 birds with one stone. The one thing i have been really lucky with is her sleeping. Normally, if i get her down for around midnight, she then sleeps straight through til 7:30am or sometimes later. So I've previously been putting her down, getting her up about 10:30 - 11ish, feeding 30mins each side then a 60ml formula top-up and then we've both slept well until the morning. The other night, I'd managed to stock pile enough pumped milk to give a 120ml bottle at this time with out having to BF and this did the trick just as well. Just a shame it took me so long to get that amount in the first place! Will try pumping the left-overs and see what happens. Tried pumping and feeding at the same time which seemed to work ok, but found it almost impossible holding the pump on and holding her properly to feed both at the same time so not really an option, which im disappointed about. How long would you suggest pumping for? Had previously been told to pump for 15mins per side (this was when i was supposed to be pumping 1 hr after feeds) So the new routine of only 1 side per feed for 20 mins worked like a dream on the first day and yesterday til mid afternoon, then all went pear shaped - baby screaming after feed and showing signs of still being hungry, so i just forgot about the new routine and fed for 20-30mins per side but didnt bother with the formula apart from her last feed of the night. Really scared myself tho as im so tired, when feeding at night i sometimes fall asleep and lastnight thought id nearly dropped her. it terrified me but i jst couldnt stay awake. She's not so settled today despite me going back to longer feeds on both sides, and i cant work out if she's crying because of hunger or wind. I think her settled and contentment was probably more drowsiness from her injections she had on the same day as routine change. Clearly worn off now! I have no clue what her hungry cues are. keep trying to work it out but am failing miserably. And im exhausted. :( Fed up of feeling like im so useless and rubbish at this whole thing. Think im just going to have to bite the bullet and see Dr Delphine, and pray she can help. Will see if my ins covers it but if not will just have to find the money from somewhere. Sorry for the big fat moan, just feel like iv had enough.

Hi JBR mummy Apparently there was a problem with the production of Gripe water which is why its no-where to be found. From what i understand (from a couple of pharmacists in UK), production has started again so is readily available in UK but will take a little while for it to filter back through to UAE. I had my parents bring me some over a couple of weeks ago but we're going through it quite quickly. The closest alternative we found over here is called Bonnisan - its better than nothing but hasnt been as effective as the gripe water. Maybe give this a try - they seem to have it at most pharmacies; or if you know anyone coming from UK, ask them to bring you a stash! HTH.

Thanks for all the replies. Some really useful advice here and lots to think about, but now im even more confused than before! :( Yesterday I felt like id been given some freedom and control and felt great, but now im worried that the advice i've been given by the paed, even tho its great for me maybe isnt so great for my baby :( I struggle to tell whats going on as i rarely get a "full" feeling (occasionally first thing in the morning, but thats it!) and i never feel a let-down. Baby seems to latch well (according to MW) and can get herself on and off, but dont know if i would be able to tell if she wasnt latching well, apart from if it was uncomfortable? So since yesterday's appointment, I've been feeding for 20 mins, only 1 side per feed, and alternating sides every feed. im then waiting til baby starts crying and indicating she's hungry before i feed again, so long as at least an hour has passed since she last finished feeding. If she has gone as long as 3 hrs without indicating she's hungry, im waking her and feeding her, again for 20 mins on one side only. So far, she seems to be more settled and content than she has been in a while, isnt as gassy, and hasnt had any symptoms of reflux, which we had been getting a lot of. I am assuming that these are all good things, but have now started doubting myself again, wondering if im only seeing all this as good, because thats what i want it to be (if that makes sense). Also, DD had her 2 month jabs yest and was really sleepy all day afterwards so not sure if this "settled and contentment" is more because of that rather than the new routine. Seeing a LC does sound like the sensible thing to do. Kiwi, do you know how much Dr Delphine charges for a consultation, and can you get all you need from one session or do you need to go back multiple times? Finances are a concern at the mo and not sure if a LC would be covered by ins. Altho, even if she is, we're still waiting for baby's pport to come back, so have no ins for her at the moment anyway! :( Also, regarding pumping, if i want to pump to get a supply for giving dream feeds, rather than for the sake of increasing milk production, when is it best to pump - before / after feeds; only 1 side per pumping session or both...? As i mentioned before, I normally only get about 30ml total per pumping session (both sides) altho yesterday i pumped first thing and got 70ml. Baby got a full formula feed for breakfast because of early paed appt and time constraints. So confused!! :(

Hi Jojo sorry to hear you're having such a stressful time at the mo. to be honest, i would say you might be best seeking help from a professional who can probably answer your questions and come up with solutions for you better than we can on here, even though there has been some great advice given already. I have been having problems with milk supply for my 7 week old, and her not gaining weight so have been seeing Cecile - a midwife who is excellent with feeding issues. she has a very good reputation here in Dubai and many EW ladies swear by her. She's really helped me so far and i think slowly but surely we're getting there. As you've already said, stress is one of the worst things for your milk supply so maybe seeing someone for help will start to reduce your stress too? If you're interested, I can post cecile's contact details on here for you? Sending big hugs, i really feel for you. having feeding probs is the absolute pits! xx

Another question of a similar nature thats been bugging me over the last few days is that i've noticed that all the baby changing facilities seem to be in the ladies bathrooms, so what if baby and daddy are out alone together and baby needs changing - where can daddy's go to get them sorted?

Hey Plumie! How are you doing? It was Cecile that says she thinks its reflux, and so far the gaviscon that we have managed to get into her seems to be helping, its just such a battle every time! Using the sachets but exclusively BF at the mo. Cecile says we should wait another 2 weeks before we start expressing and using a bottle with her :( In a bottle would be much easier tho! Would love a visit if you're free! :) Are you driving yet? I've still got another 3 weeks to go before I can be let lose behind the wheel. Grrr!! Do you have my number? If not, I'll drop you a txt and can give you directions. Looking forwards to seeing you and your 2 little princesses! :) xx
