I am really starting to feel like people are fishing and I'm not taking the bait... But.. My religious events?? What the..?? I stated from the very first post that it was only decorations. There was no religious event...not like im running thru jumeirah with a ribbon and a blow horn shouting happy birthday Jesus man . Don't bother biting, it's not worth it.

Thanks for all the responses. As an American, the first thought that went through my mind being invited to these events was: "They want me to send a check." I feel better knowing that that is not the case. They are very kind people so I just wanted to clarify why I was being invited.... Are you suggesting Americans are only invited to peoples functions for monetary gain? edited by Lolacat on 15/10/2014

Toilet humour? Really how preposterous it this thread? How on earth does anyone survive if they go camping or traveling? I’m with Izzy, it’s hardly rocket science or a unique concept not to have a roll of Andrex in your hand at all times.

If you go to ACE or Dragonmart you will see a selection and prices. Umbrella’s you must put down in case the wind takes it for a ride while you are not looking, this can be a performance. A gazebo needs to be secured down and can stay up all year round. Neither will last many years so don’t spend a fortune is my advice. Price wise they are about the same.

Hi ladies Does anyone have a kid who diagnosed with sensorial hearing loss? Any good doctor or audiologist? What is the treatment? Thanks for sharing your experience I would highly recommend Dr John MacEwan at the Sohar clinic in Mazaya centre on Sh Zayed Road. He will be able to advise you based on diagnosis on how to proceed.

It’s not a unique story and my heart really goes out to Cherpie and ladies in such situations, especially where children are involved. I do hope there is an answer somewhere for Cherpie and the board can support a woman who is obviously going through a very difficult time. edited by Lolacat on 15/10/2014

I get that part, Mrsb. I have never been able to ask this question of an Arab woman because I am too embarrassed. I understand that they clean themselves with water, but how do they dry themselves? Glad you asked....big fan of the variety of options in my home (hose, bidet) but there are also drying options at home! We're waiting for your answer, Mrsb.... Seriously - HOW DO YOU THINK YOU DRY YOUR BACKSIDE???? Maybe the question can be goggled? lol

This isn't exactly new... And I believe many people don't even use tissue. When in Rome however, one shouldn't clog the pipes! I know for a fact that many people from this part of the world don't even use/buy/have toilet paper. Don't ask me why or how. I don't understand it myself... How: The little hoses beside the toilet and your left hand. Why: This is the Islamic way. You wash yourself thoroughly after using the toilet. If you wipe, you are only drying yourself - not cleaning. Cleaning is already finished. I get that part, Mrsb. I have never been able to ask this question of an Arab woman because I am too embarrassed. I understand that they clean themselves with water, but how do they dry themselves? Hair dryer? Blow dry?

Anon they can be seen blowing up their bike tyres and mopping their floors, the Beeb has documentaries on them., fascinating stuff. Then all of the UK must be upper-class then! Where I come from (the USA), we always viewed British people as sounding upper class because of their accents. After moving here and actually meeting real British people, I learned that that was not the case! The upper class of the UK are usually titled and own vast inherited estates and or lots of land. Not in recent times with inheritance taxes and huge upkeep bills, those days are well gone. One can be upper class without having a country pile in 2014. Some have revoked titles as well, ie Zara Phillips.

Yikes, really? What's with all the hostility. First off, the question isn't all that idiotic. In America, well at least where I'm from, I get cold water from my taps regardless of time of the year. Only when I moved out of the US did I experience the whole "no need to turn on your water heater, it's the summer" situation; in fact we never turned our water heater on/off in the US. And yes, where I lived in the US was comparable to Dubai weather. And second, Guinness I agree that at first glance it can be confusing what they are saying (solar power vs. heated by the sun). I think that's just a nuance in language though and not exactly poorly written. Lolacat you are quite literally on the prowl. It's obvious. Really, this is ridiculous. Who in their right mind would install a solar water heater unit to heat a water tank in summer only? Which is effectively what is being deduced from what they have written, no one. It is very clear in meaning. Anyone who has lived in this part of the world should be very familiar with such responses by now, it’s an art form. I also would have thought that within a very short time anyone residing here would have observed the difference in build and piping to that of other countries, therefore it would not come as the greatest surprise to realise that a big white plastic water tank sitting unprotected from the elements may not produce ice cold water in 50 degrees heat.

The response from DEWA: http://7daysindubai.com/dewa-responds-complaint-hot-water/ [b'>Didn't know we were allowed to use solar?? [/b'> This is a joke right or are you attempting to compete with the original writer? Solar in reference to their response mean the natural heat of the sun in summer, hence turn your water heaters off as the sun and heat naturally heat exposed tanks. Ok wow. Don't think it's as clear as you make it out to seem ... Many residents switch off their water heaters to compensate and use solar-heated water, which is an energy-efficient way of generating hot water. Yes it is clear, you are complicating it. Actually, it is very badly written and could go either way. No it couldn't, it says what it means; "da sun heat the water tank.....solar heated." It's put in a polite techno way. They could hardly respond with " Look you moron you live in the desert (that’s the first clue) where you can fry an egg on your bonnet in the summer, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to comprehend that you don't need to use electric to heat the water inside your tank in the summer”, could they?

we even go for monthly payments if it works for the tenant There's the problem, right there - the word "even". Monthly rent payments should obviously be the norm, like they are in the rest of the world, and yet the use of the word "even" makes it seem like they're some kind of extraordinary, unthinkable thing. None of us get our salaries paid to us in one cheque a year in advance. Why should LLs expect to get their rent a year in advance? If they have a mortgage, is the bank demanding they pay it using yearly cheques? Of course not. edited by Madge_Gustard on 07/10/2014 ***************BIG LIKE******************

TBH the best thing she should do if serious about a career in medicine is go to the UK and train there and gain valuble experience under one of the top teaching hospitals for a few years. I cannot think why she would not want to take that path and why she would opt to try to come here with zero experience. If she has a British passport immigration will be no problem. I also believed it was 5 years’ experience.

It sounds like a genuine misunderstanding that perhaps you need to deal with directly with the mother or other neighbours who they were visiting to clarify this was not ok? I dont get how it could be a genuine misunderstanding if someone climbs your fence, into your garden and uses your pool.... Well, they were teen girls. I doubt they would have done that if someone had not told them it was ok to. Also it is better to deal with a one off like this then take it further.

Lolakitty - why should OP do this? Surely the onus is on the tenant to do all this? Because the LL, 1) has to be human – it could simply be that the tenant is not being paid on the same date every month and therefore this is a simple issue of a little more flexibility by agreement of both parties. A date change by a day or two can often resolve this issue of money clearing in time. 2) Because the LL needs to protect themselves by having everything documented should the LL wish to go to RERA or if the tenant places a case against the LL. With such information documented it protects ( a little) the LL in case there is any future action. 3) By communicating in person with the tenant the LL can gauge whether they have a fly by night who is taking the proverbial or a genuine case. It also tells the tenant that the LL is not going to mess around with this and there will be no third time. A visit in person is always interesting. 4) And finally because the LL is the poster who is asking for thoughts and the tenant has no onus. lol

Because it will look better if you take further action, (which you should) by not having information that will recognise you as the parent and could be used against you in any way. You have the information you now need on how to proceed, so now write to admin and ask for the thread to be deleted. You can also ask for a name change from admin. Any more info you require can be asked in a more generic way without specifics. I know you wrote those in response to a poster doubting your motive, but in future just ignore so you do not write to much personal information that could potentially compromise.

You need to speak to the tenant directly about the issue. If he is having issues with the payment date due to his salary not being paid in on time then suggest moving the payment date. You need to communicate with him that should his account not have enough funds when the checks are being presented he needs to communicate that fact to you. He also needs to pay the charges incurred by you for any bounced cheques. Bottom line you need to speak to him directly and get some fundamental basics down. Make sure you record all communications with the tenant by yourself (the landlord).

I've only ever seen male cleaners at our school and I believe most of the PE or swimming teachers are also male. I don't have a problem with it - your Head Teacher is male, does that bother you also ? DT, I cannot believe you have written this and think for one minute it is acceptable policy to place children at risk. Does your Head teacher go sit in the girls’ bathrooms with his phone during the busiest period of the day or do you think should he need to send someone in he would send a female member of staff? Seriously please tell me what risks you do not see? Do you think because we live in Dubai children are not at risk from predators? A litte more research and you will find the risks are very real in a school environment. edited by Lolacat on 05/10/2014

I never doubted you as this has been an issue in other schools where I know parents have got involved. I’m also stunned that anyone can believe for one minute this is acceptable, I can only think they are extremely naive are downright dumb. It’s not acceptable at all and without question you should file a complaint with KHDA. Men in girls changing rooms and bathrooms is a complete no no anywhere in the world in a school. [b'>You must take this further and you certainly are not being ridiculous. [/b'> I would be removing my child from such a school asap where a Head responded in such a way. But i also suggest you remove your posts or have the thread deleted . edited by Lolacat on 05/10/2014
