I believe to teach in most premium international schools to teach post age 5 you will need a degree, and if it's not a degree with QTS (qualified teacher status) you will need a PGCE - to teach secondary your degree needs to be in the subject you intend to teach, I understand this is a KHDA requirement - however some non premium schools may not require this standard of qualification. GEMS do have a PGCE programme Good luck with your studies x Premium......:)

What about donating that cash to a worthy cause rather than encouraging production of cheap plastics that are so bad for the environment? Just a thought. I can’t think why anyone would want to receive a pair of cheap sunglasses from dragon mart. But that would be the place to be able to buy them if you are determind.

Thank you for those that have helped, I will get in touch with them and see what they suggest. For those that have made fun of me, one of my cats is having major problems and no kind of food will help. It is affecting my other cats and ourselves as well. I have tried everything I can think of and what the vet has suggested but with no success. I happen to love my animals and want them all to be happy. If doing something out of the norm helps that to happen, then so be it! What major problems does your cat have? You have a multi cat household? Is one cat being more aggressive to the others?

Thank you, I will look into those places! There's a huge waiting list here as well; 18 weeks was the latest I heard ( although it's free). He has been making a lot of progress lately and he comes from a trilingual home so I'm not too worried for him but it would be great to get some extra help. No one has picked the up the point that your child is trilingual. Many multilingual children can take a little longer to communicate fluently. You say your child signs, so maybe that is a less frustrating way for him to communicate until his brain can comprehend and communicate in three languages. If you feel there are issues when you arrive here then there are speech therapists around who can help and give you a second opinion, but do tell them he is a trilingual two year old!

You need to go and have a well woman check at a good GP's. They will take a comprehensive blood test and see if there are deficiencies. I can recommend Dr Carol Smiley at Healthbay Mirdiff, she is excellent. You may find most of the costs can be put through your insurance policy, which helps. Hair loss could be due to all sorts of reasons, hence why you need to see a good GP to start investigating why.

Oh that’s a really interesting one CP. Would one be really distraught or would one just get on with it? I can see the younger generation would be beside themselves without their social media and electronics, but would the older (ahem) generation be overly bothered? Can we live without such materialism, or is it entrenched in modern mind-sets? As a seasoned expat I’ve had to go without many products over the years and not succumbed to a being in a distraught state. Struggling to think of something……….

In Lolacat's defence, she has been around for many[strike'> (many, many, many) [/strike'> years and she is really what would be described as a 'salt of the earth' kind of person. She says it how it is, doesn't mince her words, and you know where you are with her. This is not always appreciated in text form and her posts can ocassionally be perceived as quite abrasive, however underneath it all she is a caring poster who cares about the wellbeing of her fellow EWers. She is really quite a good egg. CP are you not well? That's a bit soft and mushy! (cheque's in the post) lol

I find this thread very interesting. Some people find everything so weird and bizzare but not their ignorant rude statements towards others. Such a self centered world this is. May be they need to realize that world doesn't revolve around them, and other "bizzare" and less intelligent people may not think or understand things their way. Why don't these "intelligent" , well read people leave this forum for stupid and dumb people like us, who ask so many questions? Self-centred is seeing if you can stretch the rules to fit your own agenda and not respect a country’s or religions laws and values. If some posters crime is to be guilty of being intelligent, well so be it. Should EW just keep to posts about beauty products, hairdressers and blowouts? :\:

Hello! Did anyone manage to find a good holistic dentist in Dubai? I have just been to DR Joy for an extraction and they refuse to do anything unless I take an antibiotic which I am very against! Any advice is appreciated! :) I've actually been medicating myself in order to avoid a dentist :-o But I think im to my wits end and will try this Dr. Madhu....trying my best to avoid any root canals! Why do you have to take antibiotics before an extraction? When you ask why, what do they say? Also try Dr Eva Gorton at My Dental Clinic, she is amazing.

We don't have to be "warm, cuddly and welcoming", but we also don't have to put people off! As FairyDust said, there are ways and means of saying something. I doubt very much that Clo95 will recommend this forum to anyone after her experience :( And most of the women on here are actually warm and supportive! Oh please, A little more research and respect for a country's values would go a long way. Expats used to relocate all over the world without the use of Google and manage perfectly alright, now there is Mr Google and a wealth of information available it appears more and more need to ask questions which are easily answered online. Are they asking in the thought they can buck the system and find a way around or are they really that uninformed? I have my doubts. The reason forums like this have reduced traffic is due to many other reasons, not because someone suggested to a poster they research the country they are moving to and the FCO advice for the country! And being attached to a houseplant enough to need it to relocate with you is weird, asking on a public forum where you can get a specific drink so blatantly during Ramadan during daylight hours is disrespectful.

With the vast areas of floor space in villas/apartments I often wonder why someone hasn't come up with something amazing! Tiny vacuum heads and then we swish around these mops that barely touch the floor and I'm over it! Anyone else fee like this or know of any good vacuum/mop combos? Thanks They have come up with something amazing, they are called maids! lol

Can someone explain to me how a person has an impending move to another country yet does not know the fundamental basics of that country? Please explain to me how you can move to the Middle East in this day and age of technology not know that a country is an Islamic one. Then, in this day and age where the media is full of information about different religions and cultures not have a basic grasp of the values of that religion? Then having grasped the basic values and understood how to use Google not be able to find all the information required on the sponsorship process and laws of that country pertaining to sponsoring a spouse? Recently a poster asked what would be the consequences of getting caught shipping her food and wine, really? Not even arrived and are trying to buck the system and insult the host country by breaking its laws. Then there was a poster wanting to bring a houseplant with her because she is attached to it? Then we had another poster asking where she could find somewhere that served booze during the day in Ramadan? Talk about bizarre posts recently.

I’m starting to think the Vets should offer a euthanasia service free of charge or minimal. I was recently quite taken aback when in a vets asking about euthanizing a crippled old stray wild as can be Tom who had been hanging around to be told it was not the policy to euthanize without a full examination and find something wrong? If healthy no? What? Absolute nonsense, the choice was municipality, as fate would occur as I suspected the poor old boy just disappeared, so I presume he met his end in not a very nice way somewhere. I’ve had two young cats come to the door this year, having both been dumped by owners moving out. Rehoming is near impossible, no one wants them, so they have joined the brood forever now!

Not sure where you are looking but you will find furnished villas in DSO, The Villa or Arabian Ranches. Yes it is rare but they are out there and appear every so often. Also you need to understand how to be a little more savvy with Landlords. You can always negotiate with a landlord about providing white goods and basic furniture inclusive of the rent being asked in order to be within the range of your rent allowance. This is just one example on a quick search. https://www.propertyfinder.ae/en/rent/villa-for-rent-dubai-dubai-silicon-oasis-3308281.html You need to look a lot harder and think how you can make the allowance work for you. Buying some furniture will not cost a lost in comparison to the deal on offer from the company. Also be prepared to negotiate with the company a little more.

There are some empty villas in the Cedre section of DSO that were/are EK villas as I know several pilots who have recently left and the villas have not been re filled yet. The accommodation in DSO is excellent and there are several schools that would be worth looking at within a 20 minute journey. I would not look at schools round the temporary accommodation, look around the vicinity of Meydan/DSO and travel for a while until the formal accommodation is allocated.

YEs, I agree sometimes it gets boring but compared to countries I visited, I still love Dubai. Here everything is convenient, walk a few blocks and there is a small grocery to buy your stuff. When you are bored, you go for a movie, to a mall or to the grocery that is open up to 2am in the morning. I think safety is another big factor, here we can go out on wee hours and still feel very safe. The continuous development in the country is also amazing - I have never seen any country spend so much on infrastructure and making lives better. The only downside is the cost because things are getting expensive. I also learned to be more creative this time like bbq party or pool party in the house to save some money. My love liked it more and twice as much as fun:) When I get bored, I also bury myself into books - the inspirational books I got are keeping me positive and giving me a lot of boost to enjoy life to the fullest - Let me know if anyone wants to borrow and I will e happy to lend my books to you. Here are few of my book collections: How To Live A Life Of Miracles 40 Stories of Passion Don't Worry, Be Happy How To Conquer Your Goliaths How to Turn Thoughts Into Things You Can Make Your Life Beautiful Simplify and Live the Good life Simplify and Create Abundance 8 Habits of the Happy Millionaire How to Turn Your Passion into Profit Your Past Does Not Define Your Future Seven Steps To Real Freedom Singles & Relationships How To Find Your One True Love How to Build a Happy Family You Have The Power to Create Love How Your Words Can Change Your World 5 Things You Need to Do Before You Die Take Charge, Give All How to Be a Blessing Magnet Awaken the Healer in You How to do the Impossible God is Bigger Than Your Biggest Problems How to Deal with Difficult People How to Change Your life in 30 Days How to lose lots of hard earned cash reading lots of [strike'>pointless [/strike'>books that made someone very wealthy writing about how to live life and make money.

Reality, Hannah is heading for a colour overload, dental decay and diabetes; no one cares how many sweets were left. Talk about a boring question so far from reality, mind numbing. Wind why are you looking at apartments with such a large budget? You need to get your money to work for you here. Take the allowance as cash to your account, rent a new villa in DSO for under 200K or a bit more and use the rest for bills/set up costs and basic new furniture. Don’t rent an apartment from a LL not in the country without being really really careful. What about maintenance? Have you also checked the LL is up to date with all bills? If you rent of DSO directly maintenance is covered and it is as safe as you can get. If you contact DS rentals they will also know of houses available to rent in DSO that belong to landlords as well as their own houses. The French school is five minutes from DSO Cedre Villas and in there are pools and lovely family communities and shopping facilities. Phase one is very established with parks and a pool.

As the otherwise ladies have warned you, this is quite a long journey and delays frequent. There are soo many schools opening and established in Dubai, having to travel like this for a school is ridiculous. If Gems is your choice of school then look at their other schools who are closer to your house, they have quite a few new ones opened up and many places available. There are also as suggested schools far closer within the same budget range that are not so far or large. With three children I would look closely at the budget the company has provided for an apartment and see if you can get a small villa somewhere closer to a school.

There is no *think* about it. Arabic is mandatory for all students in Dubai. Exceptions can be sought for children who have special needs, i.e. dyslexia. All schools have to adhere to the number of hours set by KHDA for non-Arabic and Arabic speakers. Unfortunately Arabic for non Arabic speakers is not always taught to the same standard of other mainstream subjects, even though the number of hours imparted is quite a lot. The KHDA inspection reports often flag this area up. You would need to discuss with the individual school about moving into an Arabic A stream, although this is quite rare and very hard to do, without being a native Arabic speaker yourself you may find the homework load very hard to deal with. I would suggest you settle in to school and see how Arabic and the timetable is implemented before you rush into making any decisions.

Hi Just started the UK visa application process for the family and realized its GBP 324 to get a domestic worker visa(thats the category they fall under) for my nanny. Thats an unusually high amount to pay for a 6 month visa. Anyone on the forum has a recent experience of taking their help to UK? I have a young boy and would like to have some free time just exploring London with DH once baby is asleep :) Thanks M There are nanny agencies in London and babysitting services with qualified police checked staff. This price is just the start, the costs of taking a maid to the UK will be more as some abscond. I don't think it's high at all, if it was me i'd make it far more!

Depending on nationality some countries have groups that can help and advise. It's a very sad situation and you mention the wife was fired while on sick leave, can this be taken up with the MOL? Dubai Eye has a legal section that questions can be asked about such things and the National newspaper. The other thing is to see if they can send their children home to a family member to reduce costs here and negotiate with the Hospital. It may be also worth getting 7 days involved and other papers to draw attention to their predicament and see if someone can help. They can also set up a go funding or such type account, a paper can help them do that. Private needs to go out the window, they are in trouble and need help, they need to think of their children not their pride.

Leave out something sweet and watch where they come from and then piff paff the nest or hole they emerged from, a week of that and you may get on top of them.
