First of all your husband needs to go back to the company who made the offer and negotiate a far better package. Full medical for the family (a must) Annual flights back to home country Rent (think how you want live) basic would be 100 K per annum to 250 K Relocation costs (both ways) now this could be a figure say 3 k UK Company car? Schooling ( you can try) Salary - minimum 25 k per month For you employment under local contract will be easy, however again negotiate. Schools will not allow double dipping on the whole but some do provide for local hire contracts, salary, flights, rent and school fees, all these can be negotiated. Apply to the private BC schools, non profits first as they tend to pay better. Also look at KHDA . Look at the TES and see what is about, a school with a nursery close will be a far better option and cheaper than a maid. Be logical and practical and be prepared for huge initial expenses.

Hi! New to Dubai and couldn't even work out how to post here :)! Can anyone help me, as an expat would you use Rashid Hospital for general appts including female ones?! I have been told I don't need health insurance as this place is fine for everything but I'm beginning to hear mixed views. As an expat where do you all go? Many thanks FreddyFace! :) Not sure where you have sourced your info but to live as an expat in this region without any medical insurance is just about the biggest mistake anyone can make. Get insurance.

Do a search on here for the number for TIP TOP PAINTERS. I have now used them for several years and recommended them to neighbours, good rates (negotiate) and do a great job.

8am - 3.30pm on a Saturday are not exactly quiet hours, and as it's just once a week, can you not leave them outside? Even if they bark, it's not like its everyday or at night or early morning ……. Because in August you can not leave a house dog outside especially an aged one, well unless you want it to drop dead of heat exhaustion.

Some practical ideas to consider; Make a large play pen in which dog will stay in but room enough to move and put newspaper down in a corner. Find a room dog can be shut in with paper down. Got to laugh at experts seen and your responses.

Emirates mum these threads always create a hornets nest in responses and you will not find the answers to your dilemma on here, you have to decide in conjunction with your husband what is the way forward. I would also suggest the ages of your children are an important factor in your decision process. There is no easy answer when children are involved.

hello everyone thanks a lot for your replies ,yes i teach english actually i am tutoring the kids who go to french schools because here in montreal there are so many immigrants who dont know english and their kids have to go to french school but they have English as well so i teach them in private sometimes individually and some times in group. even though i am a pharmacist assistant but i looooove teaching. the website you wrote me is great i am gonna go check and by the way there are ESL or TESOL courses in montreal so i am thinking if i get the certificate it will be easier to get a job in qatar. if you guys have any idea about this let me know and on the top of it i am 44 dont you think most of the schools hire younger teachers????????? ;) I'm going to be really blunt. Your English (from your posts) is nowhere near good enough to gain employment in a school. You may find employment as a science tech or possibly a pharmacist assistant in the ME but your salary will be very low and benefits minimal. Why on earth do you feel at 44 you want to leave Canada and venture to Qatar of all places in the world? Do you have any idea about Qatar, its employment rights for single women? What exactly do you think life will be like for you as a single middle aged woman in Qatar? What has your research shown you about Qatar working as an expat in a school there? I suggest you think very hard and research the realities of life in the ME before you follow a fantasy that may just turn into your worst nightmare.

I'm not sure if you have come across these websites, they may be of help and they have forum facilities that may be of some support and help with your questions better than here. Emirates nursing sounds a good place to start with helping you and they may or your doctors know more re support groups to help you. I wish you all the strength in the world during this very difficult time.

I've used this company previously due to their expertise in OZ and NZ there is a representative here who is amazing to deal with and really helpful, they are high end but worth every dhs!. Touring treasures is the company name a google should help you find them.

Rugrats if the rash has not subsided you must also consider you have a skin infection. You really need to visit a GP asap to see what the issue is rather than wasting money on drugs that maybe completely inappropriate for your condition. Get to a good doctor now and invest in some medical insurance!

Hi Napo, I'm sure you have had time to think about the responses below. I just felt I had to add something. I have a child at WSO and they are doing really well. They have been there for a couple of years, Have had fantastic teachers and support. I also have a child at DESS and they too love it there and are doing very well. Each child is different and each school is encouraging them to be the best they can. I have had issues with both schools and both schools have helped. I just wanted really to point out that although people seem to think there is never a bad word said about DESS and that DESS students don't need tutors this is wrong. Again having been there for some time, I have friends that do need tutors and that have also been asked to get OT outside school so they can improve. these children have only ever been at DESS. They have not transferred from GEMS!! A lot of what you hear from people is all about keeping up appearances. Each child is different and to be honest if they are happy where they are they will learn. If you have issues with a school, get involved and ask for help. NO school is perfect but that doesn't mean that the whole school is written off. As Perces said, perhaps have a school tour again and see the classes in action. I hear all the time there are not enough classrooms at WSO which is absolutely wrong. And please people stop with the not for profit scenario....there are not for profit schools in this world with 4500 students in them and great facilities so if they can do it why don't DESS ? There is certainly information lacking about where the money goes at DESS but it is a good school. So IMHO is WSO. ALL the funds raised by DESS go back into DESS, they have accounts and are accountable to parents, like all the non profit schools. !

ACE for sure will have what you need, please be very careful what sort of wire you buy as some is very sharp. I built a rabbit run from wood from ACE and a plastic coated wire from there and it lasted years and was safe.

If everyone just accepted that with the diversity on the forum, there will be different opinions. We don't have to agree, and maybe somethings don't need to be discussed. It will end up in "cat fights" (Yes I am guilty of getting involved too, guilty as charged), and it often has little to do with life in Dubai. So now let's all worry about Dubai weather as rain is pouring down here in Barsha. The weather? Are women allowed to discuss that?

Fix pieces of wood either side to make the distance required for a gate shorter. You can screw the wood into the wall or attach 2 by 4's by cable ties on to metal railings if required.

You would think there is nothing such as bsaic human rights, and that every culture has different beliefs, and that laws will be useless as there will always be someone willing to sacrifice their rights as they are desperate and that we need to give time etc etc If everyone had this attitude, then the Noon - 3pm ban on work during summer would not have taken place, nor would the WPS system. It is sad that on this thread such excuses are made.

I have never heard a bad word about DESS or DESC, the schools new head is well regarded in Dubai and has made DESC the school of choice for many. DESC's Value added is through the roof, kids are nurtured, academics are strong and sport getting stronger and stronger. Don't underestimate DESC. DESS has always been a lovely little school and is undergoing a few leadership changes which will see it strengthen. I know many who have moved to DESS and DESC and have not regretted it at all. Go visit the school and ask questions, i personally do not think you can beat a non profit school in Dubai.

Kiwispiers, I have never heard of that rule in Qatar regarding permission to travel. That is definitely one I would push to the top of the focus, as freedom of movement is important. And given the large expat population. What if a relative dies early on a Friday morning? How do you get the paperwork? Many have been stuck in such situations unable to get out until their HR department returns and permissions sought.

Schools can request up to 10% of the fees at any time, there is no date on that i can find. This 10% is often no refundable and some schools request it month and months prior to the new academic year tying parents in. Some schools require post dated cheques to be made months in advance again some are non refundable.
