Well after all of these comments, I am the only one having 'weird' habits, apparently. All of that, just because we are clean. Wow. I cannot imagine sharing a toilet with other families, we don't even share with each other! lol you need to get off your high horse a little bit. Your children definitely learnt this from some adult at home, because no child I know spontaneously decided to shower after a no2. If you havent expressly asked this of them then you need to realise that they are picking up some seriously OCD habits from you. This isnt called 'just being clean' this is a disorder that can hamper a normal way of life that they are inheriting from you. Dont take offence, perhaps you can recognise that you are one of the only ones that are scrubbing to this degree and its NOT normal or neccessary. If I were you I'd take this as a parenting red flag and scale back a bit. edited by Dubai-Mum on 21/02/2013 I have to agree with Dubai mum and her line of thought.

Can I add another angle to this thread... who will admit to using the toilet in view of their partner? There's a scene of this happening in "The Change Up" (very funny film btw) when she doesn't close the door. But worse when house viewing in London we saw a **few** houses where there was a toilet in the master bedroom. No walls or curtains tracks... just slap bang in full view of the bed. Is there a trend going on I know nothing about? Traumatising to the eyes, ears and nose I'd have thought! Esp if the person has stripped prior! What on earth is traumatising about someone going to the toilet? It's quite a natural process. This thread becomes even more nuts, women have babies, people go into hospital, nurses spend their lives helping people go to the bathroom as do many people in the community who care for the disabled and elderly, mothers help their children. I really don't give a monkeys about anyone needing to use the toilet in my presence and especially not family members. It's not a big deal, obviously one doesn't make a song and dance but if i'm not going to have a breakdown and need threapy if my DH walks in or one of my kids! Sure respect privacy but let's not indocrinate our children to become neurotic about it or believe there going to the toilet is somehow a "dirty" thing that must be hidden and showers taken straight afterwards. edited by Lolacat on 21/02/2013

At the risk of going down in history... I know many [mainly men'> who won't go to the toilet without a magazine. It isn't uncommon to have bladder and bowel control, and, from a person inherited the habit (OCD behaviours) of a woman who believed straight bleach was the answer to life's problems, it does not surprise me to have a shower after BM. I hope you're not eating, but google how far poo particles travel, sh1t mouth :D Sorry, had to say that because it's everyone :D Let's say it in a different way: Samuel wakes up, goes to the toilet (poo), has a shower, goes to school. He plays, washes hs hands, has dinner, goes again to the toilet (poo), has a shower, goes to bed. Samuel poos twice a day, both times at home. He also showers after each BM. I personally never passed at school, university, mall, other people's houses - I don't like it, it's embarrassing to me, I'm not an 'open' pooson. I really don't understand your post, too cryptic?

I'm not sure which schools you have tried but i do know children who regularly spend more than 30 days out of school a year and get away with it. Also KHDA is who you need to speak to about this, may be worth emailing them and asking for a special allowance in this case. As this is a daughter it will be more culturally acceptable and understandable that you do not wish her to be parted from the family. Any idea as to when you are going to move here? If soon and coming from uk i think you could get away with it. The schools here really needs to sort this for you, it's quite ridiculous, there has to be a way. Have you tried Repton, Jess AR, DESC, English College, any of the Gems schools? Are all the registrars saying the same thing? Maybe worth approaching all the schools and seeing what feedback you get to see if theya re all saying the same. Other wise you need to think about leaving your DD in the UK either in boarding, with family or with you until she is through her exams, not ideal but your DD's education is so important. edited by Lolacat on 21/02/2013

18months ago we had an assessment at the Brain & Learning Centre, the outcome was she shoukd be a high achiever and we should look at her learnjng environment. This didn't sit well with the school. Recently she has had an assessment with Ed Psych Christa Strauss, outcome again she should be a high achiever, but she is under performing against her ability. Neurologist like B&L suggest bright child, look at learning environment. It's a hard one to manage, school places are limited and we dkn't want to jump from e frying pan into the fat. DD went to a montessori nursery and then a year at a small private school, we were told then that they felt she was smart but that she needed a high level of stimuli as she bored very quickly. Now she has a complete disinterest in pretty much everything related to school. So armed with all this information are you changing schools to one who will nuture your child? What do you feel the future holds if you continue on the path you are presently on?

You need to look at things like council tax, amenities, public transport links, crime rate, any activities your kids love and locality to some where that can provide them. Train routes that are direct into London without tube links. Look at Grammar schools and league tables for schools, look at the areas and see what sort of nationality / religions live in the area and if you are happy living in that area. Look at property prices in the area as an indicator of local prosperity and governance.

Oh my word - your poor children. You have obviously taught them it is unacceptable to do a No 2 unless there is a shower. . NO !! I did not teach them that! They have always done it themselves. Actually, 2 of my friends also have kids who strip off to do a no.2 then hop in the shower after. Fortunately I am not alone in my 'plain weird habits'. This is a learnt habit.

Yes but we didn't live in a country with temperatures of 30 - 40 degrees for most of the year. We didn't want to bath because it was too ****** COLD - no central heating and a " shower " - what was that ? A rubber hose that attached to the taps and always blew off with the water pressure! :D What era was this? 1920's?

Some of what gets posted never ceases to amaze one. Waiting to get home to go to the bathroom and then showing afterwards? Beyond comprehension. Showering 3 or 4 times a day? Are these houses where the ladies have little else to do and have maids running around after them 24 x 7! Now i know why there are sooo many posts about high DEWA bills!!!!!!!!! So much for respecting the environment and contributing to keeping water reserves protected. Having lived in countries where your tank was filled from the annual rainfall (very short season) and had to last you 6 months i am frugal with my house water usage. Unless for strick religious reason i just don't get some of this. Was there really a need to mention nationality with the person who smelt? Goodness I'm sure we can all list off nationalities who smell in various forms if asked! edited by Lolacat on 20/02/2013

I DO help out and do everything I can yet she received unsatisfactory in her progress report and I am being told she needs extra help She is currently at WIS Then THEY should be assisting you - the school... I agree with this. The school should be putting a program for your DD learning needs together for you that correlates with what is being learnt in the classroom. Unless your DD has specific learning difficulties i also feel that it is the school that has failed her rather than her failing. What are the class sizes like there? What exactly is she unsatisfactory in, why? What aspects is she struggling with exactly? What are the expectations? Some children mature and develop at a different rate to others, five is still very young. It's easy to forget that Finland has the highest literacy rate and is one of the Top countries in the world for education and children there do not start formal learning until they are 7!

Let's forget about culture. The teacher at that time is STILL responsible even when the kids are in bed and asleep. I definitely don't disagree with you there. [b'>But with a drink or two at a dinner party, you would be no less capable of dealing with a situation, than if you had none at all. [/b'> These sort of statements are how alcoholics or drunk drivers justify their actions................of course alcohol in your system has an affect on your reactions and the way you think, I can not believe what i am reading here that someone thinks it makes no difference! Why do most countries in the word have zero tolerrence in the workplace and whilst operating machinery or cars if you are no less capabe after having a drink!!! There is no grey area, teachers should not consume any alcohol whilst at work and if they are at a camp responsible for others children they are at work in a postion of trust and responsibility. TBH i think most schools here would take a very dim view of any teacher consuming alcohol whilst responsible for their students and it would be a sackable offence regardsless of school.

I almost feel like a fraud asking this but today after searching for star charts for a 12 yr old and clicking links I have found my son and his 'failings'. Having been told in yr 2 that he was 'bordering genius', we have watched the biggest decline in effort, interest, concentration etc. to the point where we could've written parents evening ourselves. Now he's in yr 7 and where we hoped there would be a new spark it's not happened. His assessments and SATS have shown good results but there is so much that is lacking, and whilst his behavior is not bad (in school or out) it is very defiant. Today I found site about 'High Learning Potential' children with a section on these children that under achieve. There were so many things there that described our son, I almost breathed a sigh of relief. However, I also know I need to investigate this further, be it with psychologists, assessments, who knows?? I have already been speaking to school about things but I feel if I'm right (gut feeling is I am) then I need to back up the fact that he may need to be stimulated more in certain subjects to give him the chance to show what he can do. Where he is interested he is doing fine. Does anyone know anywhere here in Dubai where we can have something like this assessed? I am so not a pushy Mummy but think I've been standing on the sidelines waiting for too long! He's a coming into his teen years, this is not unusual............find out what else is going on in his life and give him inspiration for direction.

I feel there is a very clear line here, a teachers private life and working one. I would not expect a teacher to drink in the classroom whilst at work and being on a school camp in charge of minors is work. What a teacher does in their private lives within reason should remain their own business. The other consideration is that teachers in this region should certainly respect the values of the region and it's beliefs and that of their charges. It's funny this thread has come up as only the other week a similar situation was mentioned in conversation. I would be speaking to the school about your concerns.

I'm so fed up with so many negative comments about children. Does everyone forget they were a child once? More tolerance and manners from all members of society is the way to civility. Babies cry, children cry, life goes on. edited by Lolacat on 14/02/2013 Yes but those who actively parent do something about rather than make everyone else suffer. Also, they would not be taking children to inappropriate events/places. I"m pretty sure that if I went to a children's party boozing and cursing I would get berated because it's not appropriate. Yet there are many parents who belive that their little angle is entitiled to go anywhere despite rules or how inappropriate it may be! I don't have an issue with kids in McDonalds, but why should we, after paying 300AED for a ticket at an event, be subjected to a baby crying when it should not be there in the first place? I understand your point, and i had a child behind me (and my children) who was soooooooo excited by everything he saw he had moments of a very loud running commentary (in a strong accent). I had to laugh in the end rather than be annoyed at his excitement, it was not the end of the world and i was to busy crying with laughter anyway!

More tolerance and manners from all members of society is the way to civility. Babies cry, children cry, life goes on. edited by Lolacat on 14/02/2013 Of course they do! I don't think anyone is saying children should sit mutely at all times not moving. I think high spirited children are great fun (I have three myself) but there is a time and place for it. I take them to the park, I take them to the beach and we spend a lot of time in our garden where they can run around being loud and boisterous. However, in other situations, like in a restaurant, it's not appropriate for them to be running around being loud. They sit down and behave or we leave. I'm happy for them to get up and dance and sing in a children's movie during the day but I would never take them to an evening movie. Yes Daza i agree but what if you had your children out at a lunch and one of them kicked off? You removed said child yet someone still complained about your parenting and based your childs behaviour on your parenting? That was more my point, even the best parented children can still misbehave, children are children and will never fail to embarass their parents at some point in their lives regardless, lol

I've read this thread in complete dis-belief!!!! I don't understand why these young children aren't in their beds??? My DH and I have completely adapted our lives to suit our children which in my opinion is what becoming a parent is all about. We are always home by 7pm so they can get into their beds.... If we are out having lunch or early dinner I have enough things to keep them occupied!! And we only go to a child friendly place!! The kids are generally tired which is why they are playing up!!! Get them to their beds and let them sleep!! Being a mum it's nice to go out to a child free place for some time out!!!! You see them in the malls at 11pm and the parents look bewildered when their child is screaming.... It's such a shame for these kids.... Daisy i understand your point of view, many will, However there are cultural differences to be taken into consideration. This differences need to be understood and accepted. Many people bring chidren up in many different ways and what you or I may deen unacceptable or not normal even may be quite normal for others in such an intergrated muticultural society. It does not mean their children are badly brought up or have no discipline, it's just a different way and this must be understood. Different cultures very much have different parenting ways and there is no right or wrong, just different.

Life skills and education does not just get taught at school. Adding simply is a basic skill that should be part of daily life. ie " George, could you pass mummy two apples please?" Personally i don't feel "maturity" has squat to do with it. There has to be an age defined that is unacceptable. ie 3,4,5,6,7. Is it acceptable to leave a child of this age alone for an hour whilst you are out? Is it acceptable or children of this age to be out and around for hours without their parents knowing where they are or what they are up to? I see it quite a lot, hence the question. Mine was 12 and that was for an hour with instructions!
