Oh dear, now I'm having more doubts about coming than ever! We're coming at the end of August to Dubai, from a fantastic old Victorian in a great village in Western NY. I'm pretty freaked out, as I am NOT a posh type, despite having been surrounding by the trappings of materialism for years when I worked with bankers. Two questions - can you please advise as to any communities or areas to live where there aren't the sort of women referred to in this thread? I'm nearly 44 and life is too short to waste time with people who aren't down to earth and real. I have a huge fear that I'll move somewhere inadvertently filled with people who value material things & status. My DH has a great job and I will do something or another, as well, but money is not our driver in life. Second question - if you have a whinge session, can I come, too??? I won't whinge, I promise, but I'd love to meet down to earth people! I do hope that I fare better than OP, and am trying my hardest to be positive about this move. God forbid I come back to the US or UK a back biting snob! lol You really can not base your expectations on one forum and a few posters reviews/thoughts. Thousands of expats live in the UAE there is a vast diverse mix, it is what you make it.

What is the point of this thread and numerous others that continually appear? Why are posters comparing and slamming their home countries, for what point? The theme in this thread is knocking everyone else yet from the outside it looks as if those who are complaining need to step back and take a long hard look at themselves and their own behaviour. Many people just are not cut out to be expats, just accept it and leave if you can't take it. Those who can don't keep knocking everyone else they just get on with their lives and embrace the society and country they live in. Removing yourself from negativity and posting on a forum all day may be an ideal start to changing your lives, just a thought. edited by Lolacat on 20/07/2012 Who is slamming their home country? Well it just seems there is so much comment on this that and the other, comparing and knocking so much, can't see the point really, sorry i bothered, i'll delete my comment.

Sadly I am rehoming my two beautiful cats, Pablo and Coco. They are really good friends and would love them to go together to a new loving home. Pablo is 4 years old and was brought over with me from the UK and coco is two and was adopted here from feline friends. They are both Neutered/spade, microchipped and fully vaccinated. Since having a baby i just dont have enough time for them, so after long and hard thoughts I have decided it is best although it breaks my heart to rehome them. Please contact me if you would like to take them in and can offer them lots of love. 0561028809. Not sure how to add a picture on here so I have added one on the classifieds section if you would like to take a look at them. whhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa You have no hope of rehoming them, they are cats they will fit into your life.

The registering of the birth needs further information but i do know that all your relevant certificates need to be attested etc before to register the birth. Have you done all this ready to come? Hopefully yes and a good PRO should be able to help. Only you and your DH can decide what is the ebst option but i would be concerened about the support or rather lack of it here. It may be better for the twins and your sanity to stay somewhere with support and then come on out post birth. You could always rent somewhere as a temp basis. Alternatively if you come you MUST have some family come out and help you, you can not rely on local help ie a maid with twins. Or be prepared to hire a proper trained nanny from the UK for a month. Also bear in mind the next two months are very hot here and there will be little for your twins to do that will not exhaust you. You also will not be able to drive for a while until your papper work is sorted.

Has your husband got a firm work contract here in Dubai? If he has, to the best of my knowledge, he can come in to work on a tourist visa, which he can renew if he has to by either paying for the renewal here or doing a visa run to Oman. It is much easier to get the labour card/residence visa he needs once he's here, but he can only do it if the company he is working for provides him with a firm contract and proof of salary, IIRC. If he doesn't have a firm contract and job here, then don't come. Have you looked at this site and the DNRD? http://dubai.angloinfo.com/countries/uae/dubai/employ.asp edited by simpleasabc on 07/07/2012 Thank you. We are just waiting for the contract to be completed (The job has been offered and accepted) and then the visa process can be started. Apparently it takes 5-7 days on average. Had a look at the website thank you. I think it must be his work (A huge inter national company) that has the policy of not to let them start work until the visa has been given. Realistically with Ramadan approaching you could be looking at another two months to get your visa's , you must not come herre until everything is signed and visa's are in place for your own protection.

JPS1 You do not state if A) you have family/support network where you are at present. B) can stay where you are or relocate within the country you are in to have the baby. With out hesitation i would not be getting on a plane to come here at this stage, far too late, stay where you are have the baby and then fly and sort things out. Yes you can have emergency treatment but you could be billed heavily if there were issues post the emergency that need treatment. I'm talking hundreds of thousands worst case. You have no support network here, who is going to look after your twins?? Really step back and don't rush here when things are so messy. You must have medical insurance to have a baby here and not be liable or have worries and you will not be able to get than now. You also may have terrible problems registering the birth or your child if your papperwork is not legal.

On this topic, I have noticed this trend now to the captain coming on at the end of a flight and thanking all the crew for their hard work etc during the flight! What the? They are being paid for it, it is a job! Passengers have paid for a flight. Does everyone's office have an announcement at the end of each day thanking everyone for their hard work that day? [b'>(Well maybe they should!)[/b'> The thread takes another twist to become even more ridiculous. So pointing out that a Captain thanks his staff is a negative thing? Passengers get bombarded with flight announcements with many "Thank you for chosing Ek today and we hope you have enjoyed your flight with us, bla bla". What's wrong with that? This attitude is almost like those dreadful parents who whinge their fees are paying for their teachers, dreadfully shallow mentality IMHO. Flight crews need more than a thank you in my book for putting up with all the obnoxious passengers!

These EK bashing threads are sooooooooooooo boring, spoilt expat syndrome? If you don't like an airline fly with another, hardly takes a genius to figure that out. Why would you pay to fly with an airline you can't stop complaining about? Yours an EK fan. I think those who've had an issue have made it clear that A) They provide direct flights . B) Some of us choose the better evil and prefer not to travel on cheap budget airlines due to personal reasons such as paranoia /delays/ timings . LOL if someone can't really contribute to a thread about their experience whether negative or positive , I think it negates the whole point of the forum ( refer threads about weird maid ,sale shocker ,tom-kat ,school bashing ,community bashing etc etc ). The point being missed is that everyone has a choice, this better evil, direct flight nonsense is just that. If those who complain stood by their principles they would take a non direct flight and take an airline of their choice regardless. There is little justification to most of this thread to date, most is totally unbelievable with the far fetched statements. I Really want to shout out "Get a grip people, stop being so precious you are one of the 10% (pop) who actually ever get to fly!

Hi everyone, Safa and Woo are looking for their forever homes. Safa is male abt 5 years old, very calm and cuddly, tabby white and loving little purring machine. Woo is a 3 year old female pure white with gorgeous blue eyes. She is so playful and loves attention. A new baby in the house caused Woo a bit of stress that leaves the current parents to rehome them... Please do let me know if you know anyone who might wish to adopt them and i will put you in touch with their parents. Thank you all xx Please try a bit longer, all my cats have been fine with having babies in the house, they can all get along great and having animals around children is so important.

Thanks Hilsbils, that gives me some hope. Goodmorning....probably started saying he would change about a year ago but didn't take his promises seriously until say 3-6 months ago. But still here we are back at square one. You have to look deeper into the cause of the issues and those issues need addressing before change can take place. I do think if someone really wants to change though they can and will and only they can make that choice. Some form of reality check is normally needed to shock the person into change.

There are some nasty bugs around at present, my friends DH has been in hospital for over a week now with pneumonia (which presents like a flue). I hope you have given your DH something to try and knock the temperature down and keep fluids going in, if worried and not responding then take to the hospital.

Thanks everyone - I tried Amazon but they do not deliver in the UAE. I also couldn't find it in any of the book stores so I will call some universities on Sunday. Holding thumbs :-) Amazon do deliver here. We have stuff sent all the time to our PO box address, normally takes 5 or less days from Amazon. Which site are you using?

Ive got an email from DVLA too telling me its illegal too I guess i'll try another hire company in the UK Thanks ladies:) Try Holiday autos as a search engine or auto europe. Be aware that some companies such have some compulsory rules that become more expensive for rentals over 3 days. Ie fuel charges.

Ive just been advised by the UK car hire company rentalcars.com that to hire a vehicle from them they will require us to have the international driving license ... As someone has already posted these can be done instantly at any emirates post office ... Suppose i will do it, just so we dont arrive back in the UK for 3 weeks to be told we cant have the hire car Sounds as if the person answering you was mistaken with their information.

To be frank i don't I do not see why you are posting this, it's not your buisness how others run their lives or to interfere. Unless of course this is you in which case ask more defined questions. They need to sort their marriage not have outsiders tell them how to based on one persons outside perspective. IMHO.

What kind of ants are they? I have those small sugar ants and they are impossible to get rid of. I have just had ridapest spray outside for black ants, that does help. I dont spray indoors because of dogs and young children. Ridapest are not cheap but I have other companies and the spray they use is sooo strong it lingers for days.... yuck! Agree, nothing seems to kill off those sugar ants. I spary they move to another location with in a day, I've tried talc, toothpaste, ginger and piff paff ant spray. Would love to know how to get rid of them if anyone has any ideas please share.

I think it's far simpler than ignorance and a lack of education, I think it's simply that those who wear little just don't care. Most have bodies to die for and are going to show them regardless. There is a whole section who just don't care what others think about anything they do, many are the new money lot - tacky. They are the people who park you in, brunch and party weekly.............selfish. If they wern't selfish they'd think but others around them but they don't because they don't give a fish. Whoaaaa there tiger!!...I brunch and party weekly, doesnt make me selfish and i still dress and behave with dignity too!!! :0 Yes sorry i meant the sort that get plastered every week and behave badly.

yuk granny breasts...she can't compete anymore Is it about her age though? Or just that such behaviour is not required? Would it be ok if they were teen pert breasts? What her boobs are and her age detracts IMHO from the fact that such acts should be kept to a whole different market place.

She has lowered herself to a new level and if this is what she has to do to sell tickets it's really sad. Why can't music be just that? Why do we have to have naked bodies gyrating to sell music? What sort of role model is she behaving like this? It's all about the money. I disagree, not with this artist. New artists who can't sing and need to put a big act on maybe but not her. Give me Tom Jones any day!
