Thanks ladies. My daughter complains when it goes below 25 degrees (god help her when we leave Dubai!), so I'm not sure how long she'll last. I imagine she'll enjoy been pulled along on a toboggan but it seems a lot of money to pay for the pleasure!

I was just thinking of a child friendly brunch on one of the Fridays before Christmas! Santa sits in the Wafi for nearly a month so thought he might have time to drop in! :-)

I had loads of that, mainly from in laws. I purposely did the opposite of what ever they said lol. They soon got the hint that i run this show. I was actually biting my tongue for a while until my mother in law said "I want her to call me mum" that's when i spoke up and said "you've had your chance, your now a grandma and thats what u will be called" still get **** over skype at times but i just let them speak so they feel important now...so over it....can't wait for them to find out we're staying here for our 2nd...roll on the we know best speeches again. :/ Oh my goodness MrsDB, my mother in law also wanted my kids to call her mum!! (when I pointed out that I was 'mum' she said... 'no, you are mummy, so I can be mum!!!). Makes me feel better knowing I'm not the only one who has to put up with this sort of nonsense, as my husband didn't seem to think it was that terrible!!

Thank you everyone for your advice. We've been in touch with the landlord again today and he has reported it to the police. Will keep you posted it anything further happens.

Thanks for the advice. Husband now home and trying to ring the bank again. He's a bit freaked out as it seems to be a lot of trouble to go to - getting the headed bank paper etc. - for an unapparent reason. Both numbers on the paperwork are fake and the guys mobile no. was not a Dubai no. Will see what the bank have to say (if they ever answer their phone) and then decide what to do next. Husband's company have spoken to the landlord who says it's a load of rubbish and he is not behind on his mortgage. Husband is worried that I've signed away our life savings or something!!

It might be genuine. Many landlords are defaulting on their loans. Maybe he just needed a signature to drop of the papers and that's it. Why are your husbands employers saying its a scam? They rang the bank and the landlord and neither knew anything about it!

Oh no, lulubaker what a dreadful story! I'm sure I haven't signed anything too awful - I'm still on a tourist visa and my name is on nothing at all out here. Feel so silly for signing it though - it's so not something I'd usually do, just wanted him to go away! so you don't even have a resident's visa ? Not yet!!

It wasn't our bank - apparently it was the landlord's bank.

Just my name and phone number... nothing he could really do anything with. He did have the name of the landlord and our address on the paperwork though.

Hi, my husband did it a few years ago with no training. He's fairly fit - plays football and squash once a week - and although he said it was hard work, he managed it relatively easily. He says to get your husband to check out a company called Afrigalaxy Tours, as he did lots of shopping around for a good deal and they were by far the best.

I have sold on dubizzle..and the biggest gripes... people who turn up so late it really is beyond rude...and try to negotiate before they even come...aggghhh! I have a set of girls Cilek shelves and a desk and chair currently advertised but I do post my phone number every time, but have sold car, furniture etc... Some of us are genuine...sorry you are having a frustrating experience . Yes...if it is too good to be true...then it really is! Thanks Anne G, looked at a car this morning and the owner had omitted to say that there was a seat missing, it had been replaced with a cool box. Never mind, we'll get there:-) Sorry Bongo, but that did make me giggle.... a coolbox!! Could come in handy at some point I suppose. Pop one on the babies in it and you'll save on a car seat!

Hi emwats80, my husband works for the same school. He was saying today that he'd been asked to e-mail a new teacher who is moving out with a young daughter, with useful info about moving here with kids. I assume that probably means your husband! so i'll try to get your contact details and e-mail you.

Hi I may have a leftover tube of metanium somewhere in the house! Give me til later to look for it, it's really good stuff so you welcome to use it. Please email me on pinkpoppy1979@yahoo.com as email is easier for me to check than logging on here. Thanks so much. I went back to Boots today and they've given me some hydrocortisone cream. I'll see how we go with that but if it still isn't clearing up I'll get in touch. It would be great to have the Metanium if you can find it as I know it'll work!

My daughter has very sensitive skin and therefore she's Always had a rash. Dr prescribed egozite it did help, but lately I feel like she's become immune! Most important things to remember is to make sure she is always dry before the nappy goes back on, and definitely dry before you apply any cream, trapping in moisture will make it worse. Also if possible take of the nappy off right after a bowel movement and let it air, that's the best thing for my daughter. I also got Desitin from USA from a friend and it's working wonders, doubt it's available here. Good luck. P.s. I'm willing to split the Desitin with u, I know how difficult a nappy rash can be :( Thanks Elabella1, that's very kind of you. I'll see how we go with the hydrocortisone cream and if it doesn't work i'll be in touch! :-)

Thanks so much for all the advice and suggestions, I now have a list of things to try. I went back to Boots today and they've given me some hydrocortisone cream to try, so I'll see if that works, if not I'll start working my way down the list. Poor little thing is so uncomfortable with it, fingers crossed something will work soon!

I have tried giving her airtime, but her poos are of quite an explosive nature at the moment, so it's not ideal! She went through 9 nappies yesterday! My first daughter never had nappy rash, so it's all new to me!

Thanks simpleasabc, I have asked in Boots before but no joy and I went to a pharmacy where they gave me the Mustela cream. I'm off out now so will try Boots again. How long do things usually take to arrive when ordered from the website?

Aaah, now it all makes sense. The manager phoned me today, she was lovely and very apologetic; apparently the lady who paid before me shared my name and her full head of colour was put on to my bill. Why my hairdresser didn't work this out when I questioned her I have no idea and I suppose the girl on the till was none the wiser. Anyway my refund is waiting for me at the salon and the manager's thrown in a free manicure and pedicure, which is great. Thanks for everyone's advice!

Ok, I've just rung the salon. The manager wasn't there but I spoke to someone else who insisted that I must have had a full head of colour after my highlights and not a toner... I don't know why they think I may have wanted this? The stylist definitely told me it was toner as we discussed how long toner should be left on for. Come to think of it though she did disappear rather quickly afterwards, not waiting for a tip or anything (which I stupidly left for her... like I hadn't spent enough already!). Anyway the manager is meant to be ringing me back tomorrow... we'll wait and see!

It does seem very odd. 650 for the highlights is about what I pay in the UK, and they were well done, so that's fine, but 460 for the toner is ridiculous. Am cross with myself now for not questioning it more!

I didn't see the price list, but on the phone they told be a full head started at 450 and on my receipt I have been charged the 'long hair' price which is 650, so I guess unless they have a 'very long hair' price it's probably the maximum.

I'll definitely ring the manager in the morning, I suppose I have nothing to lose as I won't be going back!! I should have known things were going to go wrong as when I got there the stylist came and asked me what I wanted done, I explained and then she said 'and when do you want this done?', when I said 'now', she looked most put out and didn't either smile or speak for the first hour!! I should have seen it as an omen for disaster!

I think I'll have to ring and speak to the manager. I thought it was a mistake, but both the receptionist and the hairdresser insisted it was right. I didn't want to kick up too much of a fuss without checking that I was in the right. It's a shame as they did a really good job, but I definitely won't be going back!! emlsnre - I I do have longish hair, but it'd have to be down to my toes to warrant that price!! and don't worry I have a couple of years before I become the dreaded long-haired 40-something!!

I could buy a new one, but the thought of tackling Dragonmart with a 7 month old and 2 year old in tow, is even less appealing than cleaning the damn thing! Also they'll probably ruin the new one within weeks, so would rather have a go at cleaning this one!

Thanks for your replies, I hadn't even thought of getting it dry-cleaned and I'm very tempted just to stick it in the bath, although I'm not sure it'll fit as it's 240x160cm. I think I'll investigate the dry-cleaning first, but I have visitors arriving next Saturday and it has to be clean by then. It's rather embarrassingly beginning to smell!!

These are making me giggle. Glad I'm not the only one who has bizarre conversations... Conversations with cab drivers - Part 1 Cab driver (looking at my 2 girls): Aaah you have been blessed with a son and a daughter! Me: No, they're both girls. Cab driver (pointing at my youngest): He is a girl??? Me: Yes Cab driver: But he looks like a boy, no?? Me: She is wearing a pink dress!! Cab driver: hmmmmm, maybe..... but he still looks like a boy! Conversations with cab drivers - Part 2 Cab driver (watching me put my kids into the cab) : They are twins? Me: No... they have 18 months between them. Cab driver (looking from one to the other): Is one of them a boy? Me: No, they're both girls. Cab driver (looking confused): They are both girls and they are not twins? Me: No, this one is 4 months old and this one is nearly 2! Cab driver (looking more confused):hhhmmmmmmmmm I despair!!

Yes, it's fine to use any of the Springs pools, but a bit inconvenient, as we usually end up driving. I must admit it would be much nicer to have a pool on our doorstep!

Hi, I'm in Springs 10. It's nice enough, although all the Springs are fairly similar. The downside is that it is one of the only ones that doesn't have a pool, but Springs 11 has two pools and a nicer park area so we usually head over there.

Thanks for all the replies. We ended up going to Emirates Park Zoo, purely because we got up too late to go to Al Ain! My daughter loved it - she got to feed a giraffe! The actual zoo was ok, some of the enclosures were a little on the small side, but I've seen worse and you get to get really close to the animals.I'd go back but am looking forward to trying the others. Would like to know where the petting zoo is too please!

Hi, I moved here about 3 months ago with my 2 little ones. I live in the Springs, so not that close to you although I do pick my husband up from work in Al Safa a couple of times a week. I have however found an excellent group on meetups.com called 'Dubai stay at home mums', which has members all over the place, a lot who have also moved here recently. You should check it out!

Hi, I know there are millions of threads on here about hair salons, but I have two children under two and have no time to browse through them!! I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good salon that uses L'oreal Inoa colour, (I've only been here 2 months and this is what I use at home!) I need highlights and a cut, and after a very bad previous experience I would rather go with a recommendation. I have heard that Roots Salon in al Barsha have Inoa - does anyone have experience of them. Thanks in advance!
