There are reasons people voted out and in reality these concerns and issues should have been addressed a long time before voting. You only have to watch interviews with the public who voted out to see they are misinformed about things regarding this whole situation. They are or were worried for their country and its future in terms of the nhs, school etc without realising a large % of people working in these places are not in fact from Britain at all. I hope for a positive outcome in the future and just hope it doesn't turn nasty... It is also boring me to death that people are labelling those that left 'racist'. Some have their own valid reasons. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, that is the point, no? - Whether we agree with them or not. We have to move forward and somehow make it work for all.

I do agree that school fees are high but then they (or at least where our child goes to) - the cost is similiar to what you would pay for a private school back home. Away from topic- I am sick and tired tho of the constant moaning and rivalry of school parents. Be happy with a school because your child is happy there. Because your child goes to school 'wanting' to go to school and comes home having learnt things they can tell you about and also with good manners. I choose a 'new' school and do not regret it for a moment. But I would not argue that the school you choose is any less better than the one I've chosen... If you catch my drift. A happy child... A successful child... A willing and determined child is what I personally want from a school.

What are you worried about? Coming from London, I feel safer living here than in London right now. Hartlands International where my son is right now won't let you into the school grounds without a pass and there is security at all accessible entrances.

Possibly! I make jewellery but would need to get an idea on the beads, a pic as I personally can't do tiny bead holes without a knot showing if you get what I mean! Bit hard to communicate unless you can get your email or something to me somehow.

Thanks so much for your email. Do you, or anyone else, have any comments about the sheer scale of the schools in Dubai? They are all so huge compared to the schools in the UK. Also, can anyone recommend any other schools which operate to the same standards as a British prep school in Dubai, other than Foremarke? Hi Torialh, We also came from a small prep school in the UK (which I miss at times! More for the mums circle :) ) but to be honest we loved Hartlands as soon as we met the staff and saw the school. The teachers felt like they could have been from his last prep school, they actually feel like they care about the children. He always wants to go to school - that's a big plus for any parent! I am able to email his teacher anytime and will more than likely get a response within a day. Yes there were issues with the bus but as soon as the school stepped in, it was sorted there and then. Have to agree with all NewbieDs comments ( would love to know what year your kid/kids are in? ?) In terms of the school hours, early start is the hardest here but that's generally in all. The later finish as NewbiD said if they had after school clubs, there isn't much difference. I don't know much about the other schools here but thought I would give you my opinion on what I know. All the best :)

Im hoping this is ok to post here... Good Evening All... :) Any suggestions? I am quite a friendly person but have been here for about a month and just not sure how to find a friendly face! I have a couple of friends that have moved to Dubai but they seem to make their friends through work. I work from home as well as being a mum to my lil ( well he's 7 now) man so not so easy. I used to live in Asia as an expat many years ago and made good friends who I am still friends with to this day through sites such as these. Is anyone else in my position? Or is it just me lol If anyone fancies a coffee and a natter next week, please do let me know! Thanks :)

Hi there, we have moved to Dubai just recently, and have been offered places at Hartland - is there any feedback? I believe it has only been opened a week or so, so I just wondered what are the class sizes, are the longer school days affecting the children, how is the parking situation. I have heard a couple of rumors about the head not turning up at the school and some of the staff not being there the first week, so I just wanted some genuine feedback, and make sure these were just teething problems and all is well now? I have searched on here already about the school, but these are all old posts before the school opened. Many thanks in advance Hi Tj, My son has started Hartlands and to be honest is loving it. Teething problems, to be honest, have only been down to the school bus service. He is excited to go and is passionate to share what he has done in his day so I can't really fault it as yet.... Class size for his year at the moment are around 14 and remarkably the longer days don't affect him too much. I can't comment on the parking but maybe doing the school run as will be considering not using the bus service. Yes, obviously being a brand new school I am sure there will be a few hiccups on the way but coming from the UK every school has its ups and downs.... Great school! Poor bus service ( not recommended).

I agree, Sharm El Sheikh 5* hotels don't really compare to UAE or Asia even but Four Seasons is probably the best there... Can't say I really remember there being much of a beach there tho? but service and room was good.

Hi all, I have been in Dubai for 5 days now and slowly finding my feet. Moved over from London, UK with the other half and my 7 year old son. I'm looking for some friendly faces as even tho I know a few people here - would love to expand my friends circle, I love a natter over a cuppa ( & cake ?) Creative, loves food ( hence a need for the gym ?), love to travel when I can.. I currently make handmade one-off bespoke jewellery so will be looking to continue this ? A few questions if I may: 1/ Hairdressers! - I'm looking for one that won't cost the earth but does good colour? ( & one that does children's haircuts?) 2/ Web designer - Finding it a lil tough to find a web designer and someone to assist with branding. Any recommendations??? 3/ Reccomended Dentist? - I'm a nervous patient ?? Thanks in advance... Look forward to speaking soon xxx Hair; Ted Morgan either branch, SLAM or Salon Ink Dentist; Dubai London Clinic or My Dental clinic (name of clinic) are outstanding. MDC, has Dr Eva Gorton and she is amazing, prices far cheaper than other recommendations. Eyes, www.eyeconsultants.ae are good and do children. Also Moorfields. Doctors, Britsh GP's Healthbay polyclinic (has several branches) and some fantastic GP's who can refer to specialist where needed. Always be prepared to travel around for health care, it will be worth it! Thank you Lolacat... i will follow these up too.. appreciated! xxx:)

haha... love the hair by the way... i think i may try a haircut and go from there. Thanks so much for the recommendation! May have just found my hairdresser  Thank you LM. Yes there's no harm in trying her out before you take the plunge. I may bump into you there, I'm in there so often!! I'm usually in there on late afternoons between 4-6. Good luck with everything and I'm glad you found this forum, you'll find lots of good information and support here. Yep I think thats what I will do and what better way to try than with colour lol Do you park there or taxi? Just considering the convieient way of getting there x Thank you... glad i found it too - many of my questions answered already! One more question EW please :) - never usually get my eyebrows done ( usually do myself) but admire some ladies I see as they look amazing. Any recommendations on someone who does great shape etc? TIA

Look forward to speaking soon xxx Hi Londonmum, I can't advise you on the web designer, but I have been going to a good hairdresser here for the last 5 years who is very reasonable and is good with colour. I'm a (bottle) blonde so I'm very high maintenance, and Violetta in JLT is affordable. she has a good offer on at the moment where you pay AED5000 one time and you get unlimited hair services for a year. I'm currently doing a 'hair botox' which is a treatment which lasts 8 weeks I think. You get a different treatment each week. I also get root touch-ups, or a toner put through, foils, haircut and blow dry. You can literally go in every day of the week if you want to for a year. I go in three times a week. One day for the botox treatment and two days a week for the wash and blow dry, or cut or roots etc. For your son though I'm not sure, you'd have to ask. The jewellery - they have markets here during the winter months - I'm not sure how running your own business would go here. the set up costs and implications. It might be easier to be part of the markets. The other ladies may be able to help you out. Dentist - Dr. Mathew in Karama like the other ladies, he's reasonable, professional and lovely. Hi Ginnee, I love the sound of that offer! I am a 30ish female who has greys often  so this would work great for me. Does she have a website? In terms of the jewellery/accessories business - I am all up and running in terms of setting up company, it is now a case of getting the little things done or big (i.e. website) so i can start getting my creativeness on :big grin: Great thanks again for the dentist recommendations - will look into this! x Hi LM, Yes, her website is www.violettastylist.com and on FB you can find her if you do a search for Violetta Beauty Salon. You'll find some pics of me there - but I wont tell you who I am  I'm her latest muse :) Hi Ginnee, Thank you! I am going to check that out now. I will take a look and take a guess hehe

Thanks plum2 :) I'm currently in Buisness Bay as wanted to be near my sons school but will (fingers crossed) move to Al Barsha in around 6 months  how about you??? AdventurerB - thank you so much for your reply! I will look into the companies suggested as I need to get a website up and running Asap. I have all the licences so no issues with not being legal - you are right - homework done now just need to make it happen. Looking for someone to perfect my logo, do the stationary/bags etc - all exciting but don't know where to look lol Thank you for the dentist reccomendations - will take a look at them also... One more question - realised yesterday from asking at the malls that opticians will not give eye tests to under 15's unlike London. Any recommendations on what hospitals either do the eye tests or that ppl have tried before?? Thanks!:cool:
