My hubby saw a doctor at city hospital - I believe he's top in varicose veins (he is there only 1 day a week). Can't remember his name, sorry, but he got referred to him via one of the GP's there Dear LovelyLilies, would you be able to ask your husband for his name please? I am new in Dubai and do not know my way around yet :) Found his card - Dr. Kumar. He did the scan on my DHs legs himself and only 1leg needs the laser treatment but not that urgently. Before the surgery we would need to both go and speak to the doctor as he wants to explain the procedure to both of us. I will have to ask my DH which procedure this doctor does - I remember him saying laser and that he does not need to stay overnight. Since my DH hasn't had the procedure yet I would suggest to do more research. I mean I cannot give more feedback on the doctor or the surgery. Just remembered my mum telling me the other day of her friend who's had 8 surgeries on her veins - the regular removal. The veins would pop out in another place after each surgery!

I buy Bob's Red Mill coconut flour - available at Lulu's, Al Maya. Haven't seen any at C4 recently. The bag is nearly 500g but lasts a long time since you do not need much in most recipes. IE I often bake muffins and need only 3tbsp As for coconut oil, organic and cold press is the best. In Organic shop they have a nice one (organic larder brand) which I also saw today at C4 - it's in the organic aisle. I have not stopped drinking milk but I get the organic French one. Best is full fat, grass fed but not much of a selection here. You can also use full fat yogurt. Full fat organic sour cream or cream is good too. Mark says, if you want to have it, have a proper stuff :) My absolute favourite is sweet potato which is good on training days or when you fancy something filling. Can make chips, mash, even homemade crisps. Another fav of mine is pumpkin soup with chilli and coconut milk. I get inspiration from Mark's daily apple, everyday paleo, elana's pantry and similar

Fairmont the palm is rather nice. I think they still have 2for1 deal on day pass (200pp during the weekdays, and 250pp on the weekend) - best to call and check. There is an adult only pool which means no kids around. Another huge pool for everyone. Madinat Jumeirah hotels have a beach pass for something like 495 or 595 pp... and I don't think you can redeem it for points. Last summer they had a summer special for 395 including 100 or 150 redeemable towards F&B. I haven't checked this summer. They also have a special promotion on rooms, price AED1010, which is same as 2day passes (not sure if it is still running) Groupon or cobone have an offer for Sofitel the palm spa/pool day access including massage edited by LovelyLilies on 03/09/2014

You need to get a better medical cover for sure. The consultation fee here is 400-500! Dentist is also a rip off (ie, my last visit I had a check up, xray and a polish and that was nearly 800)

I know that short-term lease has been introduced and approved by government not long ago. Why not try finding a place for a short term lease through and agency or check what's on Dubizzle. I know there are LLs out there renting their property for short term only that way you would not need to worry

We are on a 12month notice due to LL asking for the lace back for his personal use. When speaking to RERA, we were told that LL should get a letter from them stating that reason. Our LL refuses getting this to us claiming it is not required by RERA and that he was told the notice letter is enough. We are still due to go to RERA to confirm this requirement with them before we sign our short contract I have also read recently that RERA can put like a notice on the property on their system where it says that the LL will be moving in. If he actually re-lets it to someone else it should get flagged on their system. I am not sure how true this is - we are due to 'test' it Our notice also came after we refused a huge increase in rent

First, let me say I am not favouring the sub-leasing since it is illegal. Just trying to help since the OP has asked for advice. Subletting is illegal but for those sub-letting their place (nowhere does it mention the other way round) Why not ask him for a copy of his lease contract so you could see 1. his identity 2. length of his lease (to be sure the lease is not expiring when he's leaving) I might as well ask for a copy of his ID or passport; there shouldn't be a problem if he's genuine I guess You could try to agree paying for 2 weeks only as a deposit since you are renting for such a short term and give him post-dated cheques so that he cannot cash them in case something goes wrong obviously but he sees you are serious about renting the place Good luck

You can get hemp seed oil at Lulus (Biona brand, organic) I know of people bringing the poppy seeds in to the country, however, just last week I read that an Indian man appeared in court for bringing 100g of poppyseeds to Dubai.

When my DH was changing jobs (one freezone to another) nothing happened to my visa. He got some letter from his old company to allow transfer and the new company then processed his visa. The PRO did not even ask for my passport. However, the old company were not even aware the transfer was possible, and wanted to cancel my visa as well even though I was not under their sponsorship.

I was jogging around the Marina and saw a lot of people carrying water bottles. (uhh want to do the same since it is so hot) Also saw girls wearing super short dresses at Ibn Batuta mall yesterday.. a maid crunching on some food along with the kids.. but the best part was the kids train they have going round the mall - it was blasting a very loud music and this got me actually upset since everywhere you read they tell you to keep the music down. What's happening here then?

I used Kabbee for the past 2 times. You do a search and get different options for a number of taxis. Paid 35 to get to wimbledon, and then 30 from central london to heathrow. Prepay with card or cash to driver Do you give a time that's later than your arrival time? We are arriving at 6.30am Wednesday and looking at their site the quote is £50 cheaper than a black cab to our destination. I selected the pick up time 1hr later than arrival and the driver was 30min late on top of that. Just got GBP15 credit to my account after submitting a bad review for such a delay to Kabbee (since they promise punctuality and good service). I cannot remember if they charge you for waiting time but it should be mentioned somewhere on their website.

When ordering burger in TGI's they asked me how I would like the burger cooked to which I replied 'Medium/rare'. The waitress returned 2 minutes later saying, 'I'm sorry Maaaaam we don't have Meduim/rare Burgers left, Only Well done'. - Not quite sure how it gets to well done without passing Medium :) I then asked why they could not do the burger Medium/rare, to which she replies 'Because it at a dangerous level to eat maaaam' - They would explode if they saw Steak Tartare :D You have to sign a disclaimer here if you want your burger cooked anything less than Well Done. At Counter burger (name?) on the new JBR Beach you can have your burger nice and pink :D

I just don't know what the police will care to do. They didn't steal anything of value and I know from experience that the police don't really care about petty theft by people that you have allowed into your home. The police will view it as just some people who came over and took a few inconsequential things. They can't act on anything because they didn't do anything illegal to you (besides the petty theft which the police don't care about)... But that's a theft! And it is illegal. The used to chop hands off for things like this. They must be going to many places and stealing whatever they can put in their pockets. I would definitely call the police. You have their phone number and the police could track them down. Ring those people up, tell them you want to give the divan for free and have the police waiting for them. edited by LovelyLilies on 04/06/2014 edited by LovelyLilies on 04/06/2014

That's good they posted this. I have recently called RERA about our LL wanting to move in and was advised that he needs to get a letter from them stating that he has nowhere else to live (since the reason for eviction is the LL wanting the apartment for himself). On the same note, they have also confirmed that 12month notice can be given at any time. Just read this article and states very clear few things: "In response to a tweet that complained of a landlord not following the rental index, Marwan bin Ghalita, the CEO of Rera, said: “The law is clear in the increase issue, they can submit complaint to us... we will assist them in the matter.” Also: "Ghalita, in another tweet, stated: “If a landlord wants the property for his own use, he should give the tenant 12 month notice and the property cannot be rented for two years.” and "Rera CEO said that once the dispute settlement centre issues an order, Rera will lock the unit on Ejari system so it can’t be rented for two years. Besides, the former tenant will have right for a claim and the first right to move back. So pretty clear!!!

FYI, your landlord has to PROVE that it is either HIM moving in, or an IMMEDIATE family member. and that they have nowhere else to live. give RERA a quick call, they are really helpful. How do they prove it? I cannot enforce this on LL obviously, unless I go to RC?

You could always ask your neighbors about the new people who moved in after you left. Or the building management. You could also keep an eye on the real estate listings. If you have a two bedroom apartment in a certain building, and see adverts for 2-beds in the same building just after you've moved out, call the agent number and find out what the apartment number is. If the number matches up, arrange to view the apartment yourself to make sure it's the same place, and if it is, file a claim. Yes, it does require some work. It's up to you to decide if it's worth it. It seemed impossible to find out if he re-rented the place, and it would have made much more sense if there was a form online at RERA you could fill out when you received your 12 months notice, and then RERA would be responsible for making sure he didn't re-lease the apartment. Sorry not very helpful :/ Thanks Tallybalt, options noted. We are not so sure the LL would move in himself as last time he tried to put our rent by 20k which we refused, then this came

Just to share my experience with TA: I flew from Belgrade to Dubai (via Istanbul) and back last week. Outbound flight was ok, no delays, on time, even the aircraft to Istanbul was the new one with tv screens in each seat (choice of movies, games, music etc). But on the way back....... They had technical problems with one of the aircrafts that was supposed to take off before our flight. So that (night) flight was delayed for a couple of hours, passengers were nervous and TA simply took our aircraft and redirected it to the delayed flight!!! And we were left at the airport waiting for their aircraft to be fixed! Nobody approached us, informed us or reassured us that we would take off any time soon. There are only 3 TA officials employed at Dubai Intl!!! We didn't get any info until 2 pm (flight was scheduled for 6:55) whan they said they would take us to the hotel to wait for another plane to fly in from Turkey as they couldn't fix the plane. And we spent 2 hours in the hotel and were back at the airport for a flight at 7 pm! The aircraft was unsuitable for a 5 hour flight, very uncomfortable, narrow seats. Then, as we all missed connecting flights, and arrived to IST at 11:30 pm we had to go to a hotel to catch the flights next day. With passport control and the fact that I had to buy visa for entering Turkey and HALF AN HOUR drive I arrived to the hotel at 01:30 am! Then I had to wake up (hardly slept at all) to take a shuttle bus back to the airport at 04:00 am for my connecting flight at 07:00 am! We were told our luggage would be on the plane with us. I don't have to tell you that my bag was left in IST, I traveled more than 24 hours to my destination and I have to pick up my bag at my own expense since they deliver it to the major airports and not outside the country of destination airport (and I live close to Belgrade, but across the border). So, to summarize: very badly organized in unexpected situations. This can't be the first time something like this has happened to them but it is the way you handle the situation!!! We should have been rescheduled on other flights to IST, if not, then we should have been given the information and a right to choose whether we want wait, cancell our flight or take it next day. It was horrable experience, felt like being a hostage at the airport. And, I wrote to TA customers service for reimbursment of the extra costs I had, and nobody replied so far.. Sad and very frustrating. I don't know what are my options. If anybody knows please advise me. That's typical, just like my case when I wrote to customer service documenting with medical evidence the injury I received from a foreign object in my meal, they did not reply to me either, and that really leaves no option at all other than to go on every airline rating website and post your experiences. That's just awful. You guys should take this to Twitter and Facebook.. they might not be responding to your emails but will have to comment on social media.

You are renting a villa in a compound with a pool. Unless it's stated in your tenancy agreement you are entitled to use it during the pool hours. If the landlord wanted to change this, wouldn't he need to give you 12months notice? :D I would be more concerned if there was noise at night. Suggest you guys get the unhappy neighbour some earplugs!
