We've been twice so far. Once was great, the other time was a little empty and didn't have quite the same atmosphere but we had a good night. Can't say why that was because it was the same night each time.

DIA is well regarded. Gems World Academy too. Have a look at Which School Advisor as well they have a good over view of schools in the region. I think a lot depends on where you want to live and travel times too with children that young. HTH XX

Shopping around, as in the UK is key. You can pay huge amounts for things here with very little uptick in actual quality. Petrol and cars are cheap here which is good (though driving standards are another matter) and I would advise that you get a bigger car that you might otherwise have done simply so that when some idiot does something stupid you have some hefty metal around your loved ones. You've certainly chosen well on a housing area so that's one box already ticked nicely :)

We had people telling us it was the pump as well, basically trying to sell us a new pump at huge inflated rates over what they were going to pay for it. A proper plumber drained the system and "charged" it and removed an air lock and it was sorted in less than 1/2 a day. He came via the management company so can't get his contact details but do be vary wary of paying for expensive parts you almost certainly don't need.

I can see how this would be very difficult for you. I have seen couples go through some awful divorces and the terrible amount of lying, and self delusion, just chills me. I don't always agree that men are innocent and just "fall" for other women when things are tough. I think they let themselves fall and are quite aware when they cross a line between workplace friends and into dangerous areas. I've also seen other women who are quite calculating in what they're about, and those who are desperate for company or simply silly little girls messing about. My only point here is that no one in this situation, is innocent. He is your husbands best friend and that is unlikely to change unless he does something to upset your husband. That being the case you look after your family. Tell your husband you're uncomfortable with how this woman behaved, and that you would ensure he sang soprano if ever he did the same. Then you can take her (the other woman) at face value, but not into your heart.

One question for lovingthesun and FairyDust ... your feedback means I can do both ... eat before or after exercise.... which ever suits me... right? I think that's fine yes. But i'm just a mum not a fitness guru of any kind! I certainly do eat before I walk, but not before I run. Eating after a more weights based workout is definately a good plan. I think in general doing something is a lot better than doing nothing and since you're "problem" is one I'd love to have...then eat away. Repeat 100 times I am not jealous I am not jealous etc. :)

I would imagine that you would need to somehow increase food intake slightly to compensate for excercise then? Any form of movement is good and simply going for a brisk walk (with dogs works best for me) will help but since you're enviable metabolism is an issue then might i suggest...porridge? Smallish pot and then a walk while the weather is cooler (or early in the morning). I take it this means having breakfast before the walk and not after.. ? ... and will treadmill indoors be fine once the weather turns hot... which will happen soon? Breakfast before is good I always think, but I struggle to eat too early. I like to run before the sun comes up (mostly to do with no one seeing me rather than the heat!). But a speedy walk early after breakfast i think is a great way to improve fitness while not losing weight ( did i really write that! ). Treadmill with the TV on or an audiobook come the heat would do the same I'm sure but my dogs don't fit on with me sadly...there's a business idea! Hope this is helpful.

Is this site being targetted as this is the second story i've noticed about this. Or is this just generally what happens? I also read that people from Dubizzle were being targetted (sometimes personally) by scammers as well? I'm not really up to date on internet "things" so perhaps I'm worrying about nothing?

You clearly wrote "See the recent post about teachers/building contractors not being paid for example"........Silk asked you to say what thread this is on and you haven't, I have asked for clarification too and you have not been forthcoming. You are showing yourself to be unreliable and forgetful to say the very least. :( I won't comment on this again, history has shown that its quite pointless expecting honest, accurate detail where you're concerned unfortunately. http://whichschooladvisor.com/news/school-closes-dubai-follow/ It's not really hard to find. It doesn't (and nor did I say it did) name any schools at all. Just that some haven't paid contractors and staff. I posted this to point out that WSA is a good site as it has points of interest to parents. I think this is true. I also said very clearly I have no idea who isn't paying but I DO think it would be an issue for me if my childrens teachers were not being paid. A big issue as this WOULD be an issue of their safety. I brought it up as another poster suggested the site was poor. Not in my original posting. I do have strong opinions when it comes to my children. I don't feel a need to be accountable to you for that, or anyone else. After all my one line "look at WSA" seems to have caused great commontion for some reason.

I've made a strong statement? I merely said that I thought it was a good resource for parents. You disagreed and that is of course your opinion. I do think it's important to have this resource though. I very strongly do  I very strongly do think we need an independent resource for parents to read about schools and education in region. I have no clue which schools aren't paying people. Considering this is a" feedback on Kings Al Barsha" thread it's obvious what school you're making your, yes, strong statements about. I too would be very interested in hearing your answer to what school is not paying it's staff......good for other teachers to know which schools are best avoided too. Actually I only posted one line, which i think is good advice. Look at WSA. Anything else I posted was in reply to someone else saying WSA wasn't very good. I disagreed, I stand by my initial feeling that they are a useful site for parents.

All the agencies seem pretty variable I think and much just depends on who you get on the day. One does hear horror stories about how some of these ladies are treated though. I would post the names of these agencies on here as I have no facts to back up what I've heard but a little research can turn up the worst offenders. On the whole though I think it tends to be a bit of pot luck!

It's a very good site, everyone I know uses it a lot. I think the most important thing is that it's unbiased and covers all schools equally. I don't think it's out of date or inaccurate at all, in fact quite the opposite which certainly cannot be said of many posters who have appeared on here recently and tried to do a hatchet job on some schools, you must have noticed this happening?...The reasons for this are of course obvious but it's still a shame that the forum risks being brought into disrepute. WSA is also not afraid to highlight some of the massive issues going on in some schools at the moment either which I'm guessing parents cannot be aware of as the schools will hardly admit to them. See the recent post about teachers/building contractors not being paid for example. These things are very important. Not least in that they relate to the safety of the children which I think is very important.

Agreed! My UK vet also mentioned that adding a very very very (his words) tiny amount of honey to the mix also ups the efficacy of the coconut oil. He said it had to be a very small amount (he described it as a couple of drops in a shampoo bottle) compared to the oil. Worked really well but we do seem to have to repeat it every couple of months.

I've been at Repton for six years and have three children there. In my experience the vast majority of parents are nice people (honest!) and the vast majority of teachers are excellent and passionate about what they do. My children are happy and they are doing well. I have a few complaints, mainly to do with the size of the school and some decisions that are made but on the whole I'm happy and have no intention of moving. And nor should you if you're happy there and your children are happy and doing well that's the most important thing in the world :) edited by lovingthesun on 27/01/2015

Another reason to bring from home (as we discovered to our cost) is that while you can in fact get good brands, meeting all standards etc, here if you look around they are VERY expensive compared to the same item bought at home. I would imagine it's the same coming from Australia.

A reasonable question and I shouldn't have posted post early morning run! I think it's because so far on various threads "Repton parents" have posted a number of factual untruths in a blizzard of comments. It goes on...and on, each carefully qualified with "I have heard". Some have been removed by the moderators. I think it's just a shame that what should be a resource for prospective parents has been polluted. I agree that opinions are fine, and people have them and should be free to express them. But when it crosses into simple factual untruths I think that's a bit naughty. I shouldn't have reacted

It took me a while. Considering the value she brings, I made my decision and keep a live-in maid. With my younger one at 5, who keeps goofing around the house, she is huge help. It does take a little while I agree. We came to think of ours, who is very lovely, as grandma, which helped me come to terms with the relationship in my own mind. We did have one or two minor arguments, too strong a word, over things like which draw the knives and forks went into at first and I felt odd about even having it debated but now It doesn't bother me because she does such a lot of good. I do sometimes feel dreadful when I hear how some maids are treated and wonder about the ladies I see in uniform looking very glum.

Thanks for comments about the heads everyone. Appreciate your views. Unfortunately NAS not for me. As I said in my previous post coming from a private school over 200 years old and going to a school 4 months old just does not cut it. Looking at Repton so will reply to the other posts. edited by Dubaiornot on 26/01/2015 Very blatant, and now getting comical.

While in general I very much agree with giving honest and forthright advice...I do feel there are one or two on here who are rude for the sake of being rude and delight in the anonymity of the internet. I'm not always sure that saying "it's the internet" makes it right personally. Then again since it is indeed "the internet" and one knows that people do delight in being rude then perhaps as an earlier poster said this isn't the place. I think perhaps that's a shame. Then again if one can ignore those who shout loudest there are people on here who really do offer their best I think without the gleeful little daggers and they are worth seeking out. I also think, thankfully, they are in the majority.

Hi all. Can you help please. We're moving to Dubai in April. Have an offer from Repton and two of the newer schools. We're not going to opt for the newer ones as our kids are in a very good private school over 250 years old so it seems wrong for us. Please can someone feedback on Repton. Although I've searched I can't see any posts with info on Repton. Someone mentioned theyve been deleted. But I sense negativity towards this school on this forum. Reference was made to not keeping promises. Please can someone guide us here. Should we look for another school? We do want the kids to be in atypical British school to ensure their transition is not disruptive. You need to visit the schools, there is no real other way as this is a vital decision. People on this forum have varied interests and priorities and some appear rather linked to particular schools so you must bear that in mind very much. I think this place and independent places like Which School Advisor and good for researching a short list and then there is no substitute for a proper visit in depth and looking around. Trust your gut :) I would disagree with your points re new schools but that clearly is a priority for you and as you said one must respect that. I can say nothing good about Repton but that is just me, there are one or two on here who will defend it. Academics and final results are very important to me, you might have other priorities which are important to you, like the age of the school as you mention.

I agree. As a newbie just coming into Dubai and worried about finding the best suited school i think it is far too expensive for a school that is months old and with no established reputation in Dubai - at least from what i have heard. Facilities are good but we've discounted it as I did two other new schools due to the risk of going to a new school. It worries us also that the current heads will move after 3 ish years i believe so who knows if the new management will keep their word or not on class sizes, number of streams etc. Especially at 60 or 70000 AED. Maybe Im just ultra sceptical but rather be safe. But I understand this doesn't concern all and do respect their perspective. edited by Dubaiornot on 25/01/2015 edited by Dubaiornot on 26/01/2015 The heads aren't going anywhere and the board is there to safeguard the promises. However if you want a school that's been here a long time for secondary then DC and DESC are good choices.
