November is a lovely month to have a party in the garden. We had my wee ones' in the gardenat the end of june (which was too hot) but put up a big shade, put the paddling pool out, filled it with balls and blew up her bouncy castle (this was for her 2nd) then for her 3rd we had it at little explorers at Mirdif mall which was great, the staff were so good and took really good care of all the children - that said if you can get outside, it will be great, perhaps you could hire some entertainment to come and then do a few games yourself.

Thank you both that is very helpful - one more question please. Our contract finishes at end of September, so there is a very short time span - did you stay in the property whilst the case was ongoing and how long did it take for the outcome. Many thanks.

Our landlord wishes to increase our rent by 20,000AED approx. 20% rise. Went to visit rent committee who inform me legally he is not entitled to any increase - has anyone else had to deal with this. As advised by the rent committee, as a goodwill gesture, we offered an increase but I don't think it will be accepted. I know I can take an action against them for this and thinking of doing this - anyone with any experience of this and what action was taken. Many thanks.

DS takes packed lunch, I freeze the juice pouch (or box) and put it in frozen in the morning, nice and cool drink and a nice cool lunch too, I used to put in frozen pouches of yoghurt too, but he doesn't like 'Dubai yoghurts'! What a great idea cymraes - I have ice packs but they weigh a tonne for a wee 4 year old.

Our lease is up at the end of September and as we were planning to move, we, in accordance with our contract gave the L/L 2 months notice. However unfortunately due to a change in circumstances, we no longer think it wise to move. I'm just wondering what the position is with the increase on rental when entering into a 3rd year. I have been told that the increase can only be 5% - however I'm not sure if this would still be the case as we have given notice. The rental where we are living does appear to have increased and I just wanted to know what the legal standing is. If we don't agree to the new increased rental which I suspect the L/L will want and it will will be approx. an increase of 25% - what are our options. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Nessie - so sorry to hear this has happened and nice to see you've got a wee sense of humour there - even at this really rotten time. Wish you all the best. Hi, I'm thinking just now that they should compensate me for having to put up with him at home all day. 

I have to agree with chants 39 - I took my parents and my wee one there about 3 years ago and had a very comfortable stay. Agreed the decor is dated, and the interior is not as fancy as a lot of the dubai hotels but the pool area is really nice and the view is quite something. Can't really remember the food much, but it must've been ok cause I would've moaned if it wasn't. It was nice just to get out of the city and experience somewhere different but also agree that if you're after top-notch, wouldn't go and also 2-3 nights is plenty.

Thanks all - one thing i've noticed is that the insurance seems to be very expensive and I was wondering - as we only have a few items of value - is it possible to arrange your own insurance.d

Crystal - Please don't give me the condescending "its how things are done here" I completely understand how its done in this part of the world and have done so for the many years I've lived here. I'm not saying your fees weren't earned by you, if you've and your colleagues do your duty well, then of course you are due your money - not many people work for nothing - my bug bear is who actually pays you (by you I mean agents) your salary. In MY experience, I found the houses, I chased the agents, I chased for the contract etc etc. and again I add, nothing personal.

Perhaps, as an honest (ex)-consultant I should take exception to that statement. There are many reputable companies in town that frown upon shady deals. Work with them, you will not regret and you can look for the biggest risks of your life somewhere else. This is all well and good crystal but unfortunately the good and honest agents may not have the house that is within your budget or that you want on their listings so you're left with no choice but to deal with the shady ones. Another reason I think that the Landlord should pay for the agents fees - the tenant pays the deposit and the rent so why on earth should they have to pay the agent as well. The landlord wants a tenant he should pay for the service - what service does an agent offer - .sod all in my experience other than to not call me back and mess me around for viewings. Ok perhaps collect the rent. Well if the landlord wants the rent collecting - he should pay for that service. This is nothing personal to you Crystil but just purely personal experience.

I cook the same thing again and again and again. I've taken chicken out of the freezer so I'm looking for some ideas what to do with it. Any suggestions - has to be easy to make as I'm c**p at cooking and not have 101 different ingredients. Many thanks.

Thanks ashleigh thats helpful, we do like them and I agree with you on the grotty bit, but once your in the villa area, its really nice. Why did you have to pay to put in a water tank - was it for irrigation? L.

Oh, how rotten but unfortunately you cannot change the name on tickets - only option is try for a refund or change date and again that can depend on what type of ticket you initially purchased. All the best.

If you put him on the waiting list now you should stand a good chance. The one over the road at the Polo Club is also very good. I think it's run by Jebel Ali Village Nurseries. Didnt know there was another one..thanks. Are they open, do you know? May just pop round and have a look and put his name down at one. Yes, the polo club one is open, they are running summer camp there - tel no. 043689882. My wee one has been there for the past 2 years and I can thoroughly recommend it and very convenient location -

Was planning on not going home at all for the summer, but i'm now thinking I'd like to go for 3-4 weeks but i'm wondering would I probably spend more money here trying to keep me and my wee one (4 yrs old) entertained or would I spend more at home which is scotland - with very unpredictable weather, but if the weather was ok, even just dry, I know we'd be outdoors a lot - might even take her camping on my own!!!!................ what to do, what to do??

I was dropping my daughter off at Jebel Ali Nursery at the Polo Club today and we saw a big tortoise wondering on the road. The nursery staff took it into their grounds to keep it safe, so if anyone has lost a tortoise let me know and I can pass on the numbers to call.

We had a high water bill and it turned out that the ball-cock on the outside tank was not working so the tank just kept filling up all the time. Might be an easy one to check out? Funnily enough nikki this has happened twice already but luckily (if it can be lucky) where it was overflowing was like a pond so noticed it straight away, but it doesn't seem to have altered that much to the bill, just continually high. most annoying

Does anyone know of anyone who can make good birthday cakes as my wee one has asked for a Barbie or Rapunzel birthday cake. I'd love to be able to do it myself but after last years effort - where DH actually bought a back-up cake "just in case", which in fact we did need (mine did just not rise to the occasion) - I think i'd better get someone to make it. TIA
