A number of law firms have written about this topic, the following might help: An employee on a fixed term contract that is longer than two years needs to be careful as this new rule would only apply to an employee that has completed the relevant fixed term (i.e. they will not be exempt even if they break the contract after a period of two years). In fact, such an individual will face a one year ban according to Article 128 of the UAE Labour Law if he/she breaks his/her contract prior to the expiry of the fixed term. I also find this annoying even though I am a Citibank customer! If I need to speak to someone, I always press the lost or stolen card option and then immediately apologise to the person saying that there was no other option on the menu. Citibank's reps are helpful and have more than once told me that they are aware of this issue with the menus being so un-user friendly.

There was a recent discussion about this on the forum. Suggest you register your tenancy agreement which provides you with protection should the matter become contentious. LL must give you one year's notice if he intends to move in.

Thanks for the feedback ladies. I also just booked in my first appointment with Dr. Ibrahim. PinkCookie - I'm also 25 weeks along so I may literally bump into you! A friend of mine who is at 16 weeks has been seeing Dr. Ibrahim and recommends him highly. In her words, he is a no fuss, direct doctor but with a caring attitude.

We stayed here 9 months after the tsunami - a few years ago. We had a ground floor room which gave us easy access to the pools and beaches. It was a busy time of year (August) so the resort was a bit crowded. It is more like a four star resort than some of the resorts you would be used to in Dubai. I recall we stayed in an upgraded room as the travel agent suggested to us that the hotel had not been renovated for a few years and the rooms might look tired. Not sure what it is like now though. There was a fantastic Thai restaurant outside the hotel, a few metres down the road. Not much to look at but the food was delicious. Service at the hotel was generally good, they had massage ladies and manicure/pedicure ladies servicing people around the pool grounds.

Have been a fan of Usher since he first came on the scene and I preferred his old songs last night to the new stuff. Yes there were lots of sexual connotations on stage but worried me the most was the way that many of the young girls dressed and behaved last night!!! Many were dressed much more provocatively than the dancers on stage. Towards the end of the concert, there were so many trashed and wasted teenagers around. One of his next tour locations is Australia where ticket holders must be 18 years of age to get into the concert. Very surprised that there is no such age requirement in the UAE.

Hi swaugh84 - yes, you will get 100% immediate cover with ADNIC. I was like you - three months pregnant and had to find immediate insurance as I wanted to go through the private system. My only complaint about ADNIC is that I had a particularly drawn out application process as I have an existing medical condition so they wanted me to go for testing. Also, if you are married and are not sponsored by your husband (eg sponsored by your employer), ADNIC will most likely tell you that it's their policy that your husband has to sign up too. After many discussions about this "policy", I was later told by a very honest ADNIC employee that they had to do this in order to recover their money.... but having done the sums, I still tend to think that the cost of the premium will closely match the money I will be outlaying for all the doctors visits, delivery etc.

Well compared to the Uk yes of course, because if i was classed as a resident still it would of course be all free! But yes as you say comparing it to nothing else here as i have no other experience with that procedure, but gobsmacked when whacked with a bill for 6000AED(nearly 1000 pounds!!!!) Is that what you might pay in the states??? Maybe myself and DH see things here as expensive as we are so used to having a medical service back home which is free and very good. My main point was that Womens Health Clinic charged 675 including a scan, and Cure Clinic charged 1675 not including a scan(as we went very early) We have now got insurance with ADNIC, they dont ask if your pregnant at the time of taking out the cover, and it starts straight away in UAE slected hospitals, Cure, Gulf D.Centre, Al Noor and a few more, take a look on their website, the policy i think was 5800AED from memory??? I've recently taken a policy with ADNIC after discovering I was pregnant and my insurance did not cover maternity. ADNIC does ask you whether you are pregnant at the time of signing the application form and you must by law provide this information. If you don't it's a risk you take and I am not sure what the implications are. If you are under 30, ADNIC will charge 15K for immediate cover and over 30, 19K for immediate cover, but this is subject to no other prevailing medical conditions. You get 100% in the network and 80% outside. The policy is known as SHIFA and it also covers other countries in the MENA region should you travel.

I'm in Springs 2 and there are a number of rentals available. Unfortunately I don't think any face the lake but there is one across the road from me on St6 which is a block away from the park which has good facilities for children and a pool. It is being rented through Better Homes. It's also a 10 minute walk to the shops which is handy.

We rang the DLD just this past week and they confirmed that the notice period is one year not 90 days if the landlord wishes to move in. A colleague has an issue with her landlord at the moment in supplying her with a title deed and has tried all avenues with the DLD who said there is nothing they can do and she must obtain a copy of the title deed from the owner. Like all things in Dubai though, it depends on who you speak to and regulations change all the time, sometimes they are not even publicised.

Be sure to get a copy of the landlord's passport and a copy of the title deed (to prove ownership) when signing the tenancy agreement and handing over the cheque. You will then be able to register yourself as a tenant under the Ijara service which means that should you ever enter into a dispute with your landlord, you will be able to go to RERA to have the matter heard. I have recently done this myself on the advice of a lawyer. When you are registered for example, your landlord MUST give you one year's notice if he or she intends to move into the property. It doesn't cost anything to register and the PRO at your husband's work may be able to arrange this for you.

Hi sydneygal Am also from Syd and now 22 weeks! If the resort offers a special pregnancy massage then judging by materials available on the topic, you should be fine. You should make sure they don't use essential oils that can trigger contractions or harm the baby. Equally they should not press too hard during the massage. I also went to Angsana at the Springs and whilst I thoroughly enjoyed the kneading on my shoulders, the end result was two days worth of incredible pain which came on a day after the massage. Why not call your doctor or midwife to check just to be on the safe side? BTW, the Banyan Tree spa at RAK is lovely, they use a lot of natural products there. Have fun!

Apparently "upgradation" is quite distinct from upgrade. After months of our IT manager using upgradation throughout his written and verbal communications, I confronted him and asked why use the additional "ation" and he explained it was the correct terminology in IT. Really? I think my face must have said it all as he is now using plain old "upgrade". LOL.

I vote for GHD too! You can buy one from the GHD website - they will deliver here but I had mine inspected by Customs when it arrived - must've thought I was ordering another electrical appliance which is banned in the UAE LOL! If you want one urgently and money is no object, Sister's Beauty Lounge in Dubai Mall sold GHDs some time ago. They may still have them.

Hi Orchard, I hope everything turns out well for you : ) I've had two experiences with spotting - the first was at around week 6 of my first pregnancy which resulted in a miscarriage the following week. Technically it was a "chemical pregnancy". In my second pregnancy, I also had spotting, in fact I had a light period for two days and I didn't even know I was pregnant at the time and only realised when I got to week 10 that there was a baby growing in there! Everything ended up being fine, the doctor explained that spotting can be entirely normal in a pregnancy for some women. Everyone's experience is different. Good luck : )

I also went to FMC this past weekend and had a 4D scan at 20 weeks. We were lucky and were able to make out the baby's features very well. I was told that the 4D scan was an additional 150 dirhams on top of the regular cost of the 20 week scan and we paid a total of 950 dirhams. I would totally recommend it. Have loaded the video up on Youtube for my parents back in Oz to see the baby. Super exciting!

Hi SandraDee I agree with Hello Again Kitty and would also add that the scan tells you the risk factor associated with your pregnancy so that you can make informed decisions about your health and lifestyle for the duration of the pregnancy. If it does come back as high risk, further tests can be done to try to narrow in on the issue. In the end it comes down to having as much information available about your baby as possible so you can make informed decisions about any required treatments or courses of action. I had the 12 week scan done and am about to have the 20 week scan and my insurance also doesn't cover this procedure. Best of luck!

Hi Poohbear I know plenty of people who have had the surgery due to hyperthyroids as well as cancerous cells. I myself had Graves for about 9 months before the doctor suggested something more permanent. I opted for radioactive iodine treatment which is a simple process of taking a one-off tablet, waiting for 3 months and then having a couple of thyroid profiles taken over the next few months until the dosage of hormone stabilises. Four years later and I have a thyroid profile every three months which then tells me whether or not to change my dosage of the hormone. I can only speak from my experience and say I am glad I took the tablet instead of the surgery. It just seemed like the right decision at the time, was least invasive and I am still happy with the result. good luck with yours : ) PS there is a new specialist endocrinologist centre opened up in Dubai if you are interested.

Pretty in pink: Have done some research on this recently as I discovered my health insurance did not cover maternity after I fell pregnant. Daman Insurance will make you wait six months and City Hospital and American Hospital are covered on their Regional Plan. Abu Dhabi National Insurance Company gives you maternity cover at CH and AH for about AED3000 but I am not sure if there is a waiting period or not. In my case, as I am already pregnant, the cost of maternity cover is AED15,000 for women under 30 years of age and AED19,000 for those over 30. This covers the delivery, antenatal appointments and your baby is automatically covered too. When you consider the cost of going public or private without the insurance, it can sometimes add up to this amount anyway. I tried other insurance companies as well and found them to either not provide immediate maternity cover or only offer insurance to employers and not employees. Good luck : )

Hi JS and SueB Thanks for your updates, it helps to put some perspective on what is an unfortunate yet annoying situation. Mr Pat has been returning consistently over the last few days. The other night I awoke in the middle of the night to hear my Zara and Pat growling at each other through closed glass doors! This morning Pat was around at about 7am and taunting Zara again. I do feel really sorry for this poor cat and my husband is keen to call the owner to give him a telling off for not putting his cat in proper care whilst he is away. There used to be another smaller cat with a white face that popped around but he/she hasn't visited in a while. I do however often hear cats fighting in the middle of the night so I imagine there are more cats roaming outdoors in our area. Just hope those crazy people that torture or eat cats don't catch them!

Hi JS The tiger cat you mention also visits us, we are in Springs 2, St 6. I didn't used to mind until he started walking up to our screen and attacking our small female Devon Rex which is an indoor cat and probably half the size of the tiger cat. The encounters started getting violent so we started hosing tiger and he hasn't been so bold as to come up to our door for quite a few weeks. What terrible news that the owner leaves him like this, talk about neglect!

Hello Ladies Much to my annoyance, I have recently discovered that my health insurance policy does not cover maternity and so to avoid any potentially high costs associated with any complications, I have decided I will deliver at Al Wasl Hospital. Plus, I have read great feedback on this forum about the services there. I have just called the hospital and they told me I needed to see a ob/gyn which they recognise and have given me the name of a clinic I need to go to and that clinic will register me at the hospital. However, I am already seeing a ob/gyn who I am really happy with. Has anyone had a similar experience and if so, how did you go about it? Did you keep your orginal doctor or move to the Al Wasl approved clinic? They have given me the name of Al Badaa (?) clinic. thank you!
