But you wouldn't *do* anything wrong at work because you know there are consequences. If you stand on your desk and sing karaoke, you'll get fired. If you do it at school, the teacher will politely tell you to get down and then leave the room in tears because they've had something thrown at them.

Ok so we have two extremes here, one is the belting/caning and one is the 'doing this is abuse' etc. So...EW ladies, what is the answer and where is the middle ground? how would you, as PM of UK for the day, solve this problem and get the UK back on track to a society where this sort of thing would never happen. How has society evolved from the people that were proud to fight/die for their country during world wars - to the people that are openly destroying it. *discuss*

The thread was probably deleted as it deviated off the track of talking about what is happening in the UK. ;) that is disgraceful about the 3 men killed. What on earth is going on. :(

I should be on commission :D The towers on the end of B, C, E, F etc face on one side towards Burj K and on the other side towards the sea/SZ road. The ones on the end of K, L, M etc face on one side out in sort of Meydan direction and on the front side towards the sea/SZ road. you will have to view a good number of apartments as really you can get 4 different views depending on which apartment you take. Also, some apartments are floor to ceiling glass, while others just have windows. I think once you are past the halfway mark of the tower, you get the floor - ceiling glass...but not sure on that. Also if you are facing the sea you will have more sun/heat for more of the day (so will require more a/c) Also important to make sure that in your contract, the LL covers service charges which are very expensive at about 30k per year for the owner for 3 bed - most LL will of course pay this but make sure you have it in your contract. If you are facing Burj K you get amazing views of the fountains every night and esp at Eid/NY etc, awesome fireworks. Really trying to be objective. honestly. :D

It really depends on how much LL wants to rent it. I think a lot of LL probably do pay it at the moment. But even if you pay it, our bills total for the month including having the dryer & dishwasher on every day (!) are 800 pm including the 500 a month flat charge. That's at the peak of summer for a 3 bed so it's really not that bad. If you were in a villa you would be paying a lot more in dewa bills and even in apartments with no empower it prob wouldn't be much less. you also have the advantage with empower that you don't need your a/c on all the time because you have cool 'fresh air' in the building which (when it is tweaked properly and working!) is fab - we only have our a/c on for about ten minutes in the daytime....which is not bad for August! are you sold yet :D

ps Pentel there are two groceries within 5/10 minutes walk who deliver within the hour your basics of milk/bread/veggies etc. Al Maya Supermarket in downtown has a better range and also delivers in about an hour, you can get fresh meat/bakery bread/cheeses etc...pretty much anything. :) A pic of the podium level is here so you can see where to walk/jog etc. http://alturl.com/jsrp7 Pools are never so busy so you wouldn't want to go in, and at the moment are really nice from about 4pm. Gyms keep saying next month next month......they'll happen sometime. edited by Maaam on 10/08/2011

Why not just be hush about it? You don't tell, I won't tell. it is not a case of not telling...that is not how most illegal workers & employees are caught. It is a pretty big risk to take considering the implications if caught. Not to mention the possibility of leaving kids with illegal workers etc and not having a leg to stand on if something happened. Not.Worth.It.

I Think it is legal if: 1. They are married.(Maid & her partner) 2. He (maid's partner) is her sponsor.(As husband and not as employee) - [b'> Legal if she is not working as a maid[/b'> 3. He (Maid's husband) gives her (maid) noc to work part time. [b'>Not legal and not possible[/b'> 4. They(perspective employer) get labor card from min. of labor for her to work as a maid part time or otherwise. - [b'>not legal and not possible [/b'> 5. In the contract they have to pay her consideration ( some money) & boarding as a perk. (In the contract they will have to mention husband is allowed to stay) [b'>- not legal and not possible [/b'> edited by Maaam on 10/08/2011

Trying to be objective as we love it but here goes. For location, it is fantastic. You can be in satwa, jumeirah, karama in five or ten mins, straight on s z rd and there you are. Mirdiff fifteen mins over BB bridge. Even MOE is only 15 mins. Road setup-to be finished by dec. Yes, its a mess now and a little bumpy. Metro is a five min walk from the towers on the end of K L M and about 12 mins from BCE etc. Podium level is fantastic for walks, jogs, kids with bikes, scooters etc. V safe and loooads of room to run. Must be a couple of k walk round all if you did it a couple of times. Two huge pools, each pool has adult pool, medium size and child size. One open til half six the other half ten. Shops, nothing open yet. Spinneys finished and ready to open, hasn't because ? Maybe roads ? Empower? Are you renting? Ask your LL if he will pay the standing charge which is 500 pm payable quarterly in advance. You would then pay consumption and dewa. (Charge for 3 bed). Dewa v low we pay 800 max for everything. No dog walking allowed podium level. Apartments v spacious and high ceilings. Short answer, if you looking for big space, good location, quiet and not too fussed about access roads and shops yet.... It is great!!

in the huff :D each tower would have its own qualities. some facing Burj Khalifa, some towards the sea etc. What would you like to know. I think there are 12 altogether including one which will be a hotel, one commercial tower (?) and one which is currently not occupied. edited by Maaam on 09/08/2011

and from your original post - the story about them not being able to live together is a bit odd, if he works for a company and is sponsoring her then why would they not be able to live together? It sounds as though she has bought an illegal visa and is not even on her husband's sponsorship, making the whole thing even more of a pickle.

Husband & wife living with them in villa = illegal wife working as part time maid = illegal Living with them and doing work in return for somewhere to stay = illegal husband sponsoring his wife and her working as maid = illegal (maids can only be sponsored by the company/agency they work for, or their sponsoring family). Yup, pretty much illegal all round...

Piggle I agree with you as well. Personally I don't understand how people can expect to have their rubbish collected free (and much more regularly than in other countries); their roads well maintained, streetlights, streetcleaning, public parks, public beaches, etc etc, without having to contribute to the cost of it all. It is an income tax free country, but that doesn't mean *everything* is free, nor should it be! :) edited by Maaam on 08/08/2011

I LOVE CB and GB, I love their quick wit, humour in the morning and their jibes at each other, I think they are hilarious. They make me snort out loud :D I think CB is as funny as Chris Moyles used to be in his hey-day but recently listened to CM and thought CB was much better. :)

Wow, so many adverts from maids on "own visa", "husband's sponsorship" or people looking for "part time" maids on their own visa etc. It's no wonder that people don't realise this is illegal and end up in trouble.

it is indeed excellent for you. just buy young (tender) coconuts, chop the top off and stick a straw in. In certain cafes in Satwa/Bur Dubai/Karama you can buy them like this with the straw in and have them chilled or not. Otherwise places like Lulu will sell them. :) (the coconut water that is sold in places like choitrams in cans, is sweetened etc)

It could be flouridosis, (google it for pictures!) It could also be that he has no enamel on those teeth. DS has had no enamel on his front teeth since they came through (nobody can be sure of the reason as of course it would have been during pregnancy that the enamel formed) and it looked awful, he's had to have them filled on the front like a filling. Luckily once his big teeth come through they should be prefectly normal. Can also recommend Dr Madhu highly.

you can do it 3 ways:- 1. They are under your sponsorship but they live out, you would pay whatever the Maaams on here pay for normal maid but with extra for accomodation and transport. 2. you can hire a full time live out maid through an agency i.e. a monthly rate, *think* on here i've read it is quite expensive 3. hire from 7-5 from an agency paying by the hour- cheapest would be 25 per hour but if it was an all day every day thing you could maybe get a reduced rate.. edited by Maaam on 19/05/2011

Wafi used to have a great little playgroup... I think it was on on Sunday and Wednesday mornings... can't remember now, but it was upstairs on the 3rd floor by their funcity/encounter zone section - perhaps phone them. There was kiddies there of all ages, I would go with my 2yr old and 12 week old and both enjoyed themselves. . Unfortunately the Wafi group is no longer running (Anne went back to the UK) :( and then I think the management at Wafi needed the room for something else It was fantastic and there is a REAL market for this sort of thing - babies on the floor playing with toys, mums sitting having a cuppa, a sing song at the end and all for 20 AED. OP, you should set one up yourself. There is also one at one of the churches in Jebel Ali, if you do a search for playgroup Jebel Ali you should find details. :)

SQ if you spent a morning driving round all the nurseries with your CV, guaranteed by the end of the week you'd have a job. :)

nope, if you are going to be a TA you don't need qualifications. :) (In some cases nurseries will even hire you to be the 'teacher' for the class if you have no teaching qualifications but you would have to look into that, I think you are given training on how to follow the curriculum)

My experience with nursery jobs is that they pay very little (-4000 dirhams) and it might not justify going back to work unless they'd let your son do KG 1 for free. Yes that sounds about right, but if you are getting 4k, finishing in time to pick up other LO, getting your nursery paid for and having school holidays, sounds like a good deal! it's 4k extra. That's your monthly shopping. :)

Part time work at home is a big option. What about child care for other mums? could you do this and charge? Are you trying to get her deported?! :\:
