Why not put him on a waiting list for FS1 at Gems SO. I chose to keep my DD out until FS2 and have managed to get her a place. Children come and go all the time, I'm sure a place would come up within the FS1 year. Good luck.

Whoa ladybird who rattled your cage! You don't need to be quite so patronising. If you read the whole thread its also about people like you not being "friendly" to newbies etc on this forum. If you need me to explain the initial thread to you I can but obviously I would have thought you'd read the whole thing before commenting with such a sarcastic unhelpful comment! Chocs01 replied perfectly to the latter part of the thread but maybe you need to read the whole thread before replying like this and proving my point to perfection!!!!

Wow, by the number of views and comments on this thread I really hope EW look at the format for their coffee mornings as there are obviously a lot of us interested in meeting new people but not in the way it currently is run. Hopefully things may change for the better, this is great market research for them! Hey they should be thanking me! lol

Anondubai, I def don't think the majority were newbies. They all seemed to know each other really well. I'm no shrinking violet, but there is only so much one sided effort you put in before you think ...hey move on, this just isn't for me. A welcoming smile is all it takes to make it feel like you haven't totally wasted your time!

Hi maxindubai, like you I'm definitely not shy. Its hard though when one group of people sit in a completely different circle of their own to move over and join a group. Nobody in particular, no I didn't give my user name details but have nothing to hide as only state the truth so if they wanted it they could have it. :)

hi Sue62, the organiser knew I was new and asked me to fill a card with my details. I introduced myself when I arrived and that was as far as it went. No one else spoke to me or my friend from that point on apart from a goodbye! Oh well, you live and learn!

Hi Sue62, it wasn't a bad thread, I just expressed concern that I went to an event and was basically not introduced to anyone and suggested that this is what should be done for newbies, as they may not be as confident as me to do it themselves. Also that as a newbie its hard to put threads on here when some people shout you down for it. I worded it nicely and just made a lets be a bit more friendly suggestion....it got deleted. How do you give positive constructive feedback on a meeting/coffee morning if when you do its deleted just because it doesn't give the image desired! I did it nicely honestly!

Hi Scotslass. My son is 7 nearly 8 and has lessons on the al mahra court with a great tennis coach called Ken. He has a brilliant rapport with the children and my son is really enjoying the lessons. Kens number is 0508 703208. I'm sure he does lessons in Saheel as well on a Wednesday pm. Hope this helps.

I've had this situation before but with a different airline. I booked my daughter in as Infant (surname) and gave her expected due date. I then had to confirm with them all the details on her actual arrival so that they had the details for their records. As baby does not have their own seat its a mere formality. Good luck

I got a foodie one for my dad for his birthday and you were able to choose a wicker hamper and fill it yourself from a large selection of really high quality foodstuffs. He loved it and said the food was amazing. It was from Britishfinefoods.com. Hope you find the right gift. :)

Not sure how good they are but I was in Lulus yesterday and they had big baskets of basketballs and netballs for 20Dhs. They are upstairs near the toy section.

Be careful, AR security are on a clamp down for illegal maids at the minute and have reported at least one that i know of. Don't take the risk and go through an agency if you want part time. Good luck.

Hi Delvin, I have a child at this school and can only really pass opinion on their teacher. 1) I would say the teacher is very experienced and definitely on the ball, great communication with the parents too. 2) I would say the children are predominantly native english speaking/ or fluent english. There is definitely a mix of nationalities but it works. 3) Don't know about this sorry. I know the teacher picks up on minor niggles and they have specialist assistance to help children catch up or if they need more focus. 4) Average class sizes depends on the year group I think. I think it differs from year to year. My childs class is 24. 5) I think TAs up to year 2 and then I think they may share them between classes after that. 6) My child had no formal assessment but we were asked for a very detailed previous year school report and then just did meet and chat format, however it may be different if residing here as we were moving to Dubai at the time of enrolement. We are really happy with the impression of the school so far and the teachers I have met are very committed and experienced, with a variety of teachers from some newbies to Dubai to experienced teachers both in the UK and UAE. Hope this helps

Black and White cat missing from AR. Please help us, we live in Al Mahra and we are fostering the most adorable 9 month old cat. My daughter decided this morning that he wanted to go out for a walk and let him out the front door without telling us! We've spent this morning trailing the streets looking for him to no avail. He's called Thomas and is very friendly, loves cuddles and being picked up. Please give us a shout if you see him as we feel terrible as we've only had him a few days and he's really fitted in to our family well. You can get hold of me on 0557189244. Thanks in advance

Definitely may be cheaper to buy one, am always wary about hiring things like car seats. There is a 50% off sale in Mothercare at the minute on car seats. You may be able to pick up a cheap and cheerful one there.

We have friends live here and apparently they have just had a letter stating that you can only have 4 visitors on a weekend at any one time as they are trying to keep numbers down of people using the pool and facilities. When we visited the other weekend they were going around checking as well. Lovely facilities that my friends use for free. I was there with 2 children and definitely felt that it was a great place but more for people in their 20s and 30s. DJ playing music round the pool etc felt a bit club 18-30!

I was recommended Dr Michaels dental surgery in Umm Suquiem when my brace snapped recently. I saw Dr Eva, who was brilliant. They saw me on the same day I called them and couldn't have been more helpful or professional. Price wise not too bad either. Good luck. It sounds as though your experience was awful, you definitley won't get treated like that by Dr Eva, she was so patient and kind.

Hi Yorky, we've had our garden landscaped and now maintained by Ali from Tree and Flowers Garden landscaping. His rates are good and he's very reliable. Our garden is transformed. His english isn't great on the phone but its ok in person. I would definitely recommend him. His number is 050-5883216.

I live in Arabian Ranches and it takes me 15 mins to get to the new Gems school. I believe they do have a few places in some of the years. Great school so far, based on the few days they've been there. AR is very handy for the school, and you will find lots of the kids at the school live here so its easy for the children to meet up with friends after school or at weekends.

If you move to Arabian Ranches Gems Wellington Academy silicon oasis has just opened and is great. It would be about a 15min drive to school. Might be worth a look around.

I spoke to the registrar at Gems Wellington Dubai Silicon Oasis today and they said they will be accepting registration forms for FS1 and 2 from 1st October. I have an older child at the school, they started today, and so far it all looks really well organised and staff can't do enough to help. A really good first impression.

I've just signed my 3yr old up for ballet classes at cello ballet classes in Motor city. Its 650Dhs for 12 weeks and the classes are small, I think there are 3 x 3yr olds in my daughters class. Its opposite the entrance for the polo club in a purpose built dance and music studio.

OMG so pleased to read this thread. I've been here 6weeks and have been feeling like this on and off since about week 2. I find that if I up my intake of water and cut down on food it seems to reduce the symptoms. Somedays I wake up fine and then other days the queasiness hits me at anytime of the day. Not too convenient when you are in the middle of a big food shop with 2 young children! I'm pleased to hear its not just me though. Hopefully my body will get used to Dubai soon.
