I live in AD and keeping hearing about things in Dubai. Is there anything here in AD?? I'm kind of desperate to get my son into speech therapy. He's 3.5 and I do NOT want him to start school a year late.. Please...

I did some research on it before I came here and found it to be socially acceptable. They actually encourage extended breastfeeding, meaning over one year of age. I have breast fed in the Dubai Mall, and most of the malls in Abu Dhabi where I live. No one has stared or made comments; nothing. I actually find that people will help us more if our baby is fussy or our toddler is bored. It's really reassuring to know that it's not odd or an nuisance to those around us. In the instance where we are just out and not at a restaurant, I will feed near the women's bathroom where there is a covered area next to the prayer room. I always cover just because I'm modest like that normally so I would encourage it out of respect for the culture. Good luck and best wishes in your travels! Hi all, I am just wondering what the go is here in UAE for breast feeding in public.. I have only been here a couple of weeks, but its not something I have noticed being practiced.

I have been trying to get in contact with the Future Centre for Special needs children; but haven't been successful. Any feedback on this school? It's right next to the Mayzed Mall..

My 3 month old responded VERY well to about an ounce of water and a tsp of sugar via bottle. Helps with gas, fussiness and constipation.

If I had to live ANYWHERE in KSA again, I'd prefer Jeddah. Best place to live bc it's not AS conservative as the rest of the country..

We just left Saudi to come to AD.. you are in for an adventure. First off, boys over the age of 13 are not allowed to live in the country as expats; they must attend boarding school out of the country. Girls at puberty age are required to wear abayas just like adult females. So I recommend getting an abaya BEFORE you arrive; otherwise it will be very awkward bc of all of the staring by the men. Plus it's illegal to NOT wear one, also you aren't allowed to drive. Compounds vary by location. Shopping is decent. Malls aren't AS big as Dubai, but close. Any thing else you need, just let me know!

KathyRose is right.. your life is based on what happens behind compound walls. TCNs are treated horribly and I loathe that about the Middle East. KSA is a very wasteful place too. Trash is thrown from moving cars and kids are allowed free reign of any place; they don't even use carseats. So new babies are just carried by their parents in the car; expats are known to call them Saudi missiles. KSA life can really be a culture shock, so get a thick skin before moving there...

Jeddah is the most liberal place in all of KSA. Riyadh is starting to loosen up a LITTLE. Prayer calls are abided by strictly; stores will close 30 mins prior in some places to adhere to them and will take their sweet time getting back to their places of employment. Men are not allowed to venture around solo; so try and make a contact if that is the case for you. As a woman, try to wear an abaya that is NOT 100% polyester bc you will die from the heat. Other than that, just try to be as low key and respectful as possible.

Hello all, I'm new to AD coming from the US. My 3 yr old has a language delay and I'm looking for advice on ENTs in the area and any kind of nursery that would "accept" him. I'm really concerned with getting him in to school "on time" for his age group. ANY advice would be super helpful.. Thank you!!
