Thanks but what health card are you referring to? I have the insurance card given by DH's company; can you please clarify Sands123. Also would you have any idea how long it takes to get an appointment? Thanks again

Got the Shred dvd a year ago and never opened it. Finally tried level one a few weeks back and was in so much pain the following day that I was too scared to have another go. Anyways did level one last night and am sore but not like last time. The 12 inch loss will hopefully keep me motivated.

The number is 44238888. I called and got an appointment just a few minutes back and as chocfish said the doctor's name is Dr Bassem. If they tell you someone will call back its better you insist on taking the appointment; I wasted two days waiting for a call. Thanks for the help RachelA and chocfish.

I think you have more or less decided but still wanted to say that we have a Home Centre sofa bed (there's no Ikea in Doha) and the quality is not good.

I was just telling my sister in law yesterday that the kids have got used to the stairs (we have marble) and my youngest has fallen twice since. I have the strip from Ikea that nicedaynat has referred to but never used it as the kids were careful going up and down the stairs. I will be putting it tomorrow!

Well I just gave myself a time and said that if the music does not stop I would call the supervisor. Fortunately they stopped sometime around 8:30. Yes compound life can be irritating in some aspects; I am finding it particularly hard with my neighbours as the noise is always too much on weekends. If its occassional I am sure it would not bother me but usually their parties go on till midnight and it drives me nuts.

I have had this done two years ago when I needed a change from our sofas. Are you familiar with the Dhow R/A area? There are a line of stores there where you can buy fabric; I found some lovely fabric at the Aziziya store. Diagonally opposite to these stores are small upholstery shops where they will make the cushions etc for you. I also had the cushions made to size there. The Azizya store is like a one stop shop which will do all of the above but they had too many orders at the time and since I did not want to wait, I bought the fabric from them and did the tailoring elsewhere. Hope that helps.

JHL, I hope you are able to get more feedback from someone who lives there soon. Just wanted to let you know that DH drives from Doha to Mesaieed daily as we decided not to live there (we were offered the housing there two years after we came here so were still able to make that choice) because we wanted to be close to the children's school. I dont think there is any smell from what I can remember (been there twice).

We have been a few times and its a lovely place to go. DH found the GPS coordinates online and we took the "easier" route which meant few dunes. Its better to go with at least one other couple in case the car is to get stuck however before our friends could help with our car, a local pulled up and got us out. Have fun!

Thanks for the replies ladies. She is a nice sister-in-law actually and I just want to get her something of personal use as she hardly if ever spends on herself. Defintitely want to get a good brand and something in the 500-1000 QR range. Have no idea where to look and also if its even possible to get something good for this price range. Ideas are welcome.:)

roysie, barley water is an excellent remedy for urinary infection. Boil the barley in lots of water on low heat until its completely cooked through. Strain, throw away the boiled barley and drink the water. You will have to drink at leat 3-4 glasses of this over a day for a couple of days. And like the others said cranberry juice is great too, Hope you feel better soon.

Saw your post earlier today and have been trying to recollect exactly where I saw these recently (as in two weeks ago) in Doha itself. I am not sure if its Home Centre or City Lifestyle or some other place altogether. I know I am not being of much help but I wanted to let you know that they are available in Doha. Now if I can just rattle my brain a little more then I will post back soon.:(

Lalala when you said that someone making hobby horses might be unlikely to get in trouble....its still not allowed right? I am sorry if I am sounding like I dont get the point but I am really unclear on this. What is the kind of trouble that one can get into (lets leave out food business)?

When I said its complicated, I meant the procedure of finding a Qatari sponsor, renting an office etc. I can see your point about the risk involved in dealing with food; I think I did not think through that enough. Thanks again!

I am interested in starting a small food business from home. However I have often read in the past on this forum about it being illegal. Can anyone tell me what the procedure is to start a business legally? Also I want to know whether all the ladies I have seen at Fairs selling food, jewellery etc also have to have licenses or is this allowed in a public event? I hope I made sense in asking that. Thank you.

Inlaws and my parents live in different parts of the world and going to stay with the inlaws every summer is not a holiday. We are usually there for 4-5 weeks but hardly get any time for ourselves. Its a hectic time visiting relatives, cooking, keeping the kids entertained at home etc. I usually end up in tears by week 3 by which time DH tries to take some time out for us to watch a movie/eat out. When I visit my parents even though I help a lot with housework etc my parents babysit the kids so that I can go shopping etc so I dont find it stressful. Its great to meet old friends and lie on the couch talking to my Mum. But DH does not come with me so thats the big missing factor. For me a holiday is when we go to a destination where we stay in a hotel and can make our own programs. edited by Maple on 29/02/2012

I have a bottle of store bought Kabsa spice mix and dry lemons. I have used it once to make Kabsa rice with chicken from a friend's recipe. However I wanted to improvise and started searching on the Internet and am confused. The Kabsa recipe does not call for dry lemon but the Makhboos does. Can someone please clarfiy and it would be lovely if you could share an aunthentic recipe? Thank you

Mindi, I took driving classes here in April/May 2011 from Al Rayyan driving school. The school was highly recommended by DH's colleagues and I found it to be good as well. I was learning to drive for the first time and after completing 20 classes (paid for all 40 classes), the instructor asked me to try the test as ladies are usually given four attempts. Fortunately I passed in my first attempt. I think its very important to remain calm during the test and try to follow the instructor's details carefully. For the road test, you are apparently given points from the minute you sit in the car (how u adjust the rear view mirror, sequence of handbrake etc etc) so do keep all that in mind. Its a different story that I hardly drive as the roundabouts make me nervous but thats just me. Good Luck!! Note: There are evening classes as well at this school so you can choose.

Dan Lou, the cookies were just perfect so thanks. I ended up making close to 50 cookies coz the kids wanted extras for the their Music teachers etc. Frances I made some red icing and also used red sprinkles (kids and sprinkles just seem to go together) and the choco cookies looked lovely.

I second Shater Abbas; their lari kebabs are really good and tender (small pcs of marinated lamb). If u are looking for the mince variety, then the kofta kebabs are also good. And certainly can't go wrong with the mixed starters of hummos, babghanoush, muttabal etc. Very fresh and the best I have had so far. If we have the time then we enjoy going to the Al Sadd branch as the place has a nice feel to it.

Mine are 7, 5 and 3 and all boys. I have controlled my outbursts over the last few months but its still so hard. I am always finding myself stepping in to stop them fighting, arguing, crying and there comes are times when I just loose it. I feel awful about it and sit and cry when they are in bed. I spend a lot of my day cooking and baking for them (we eat out only once or twice a week and thats a conscious decision so they develop healthy eating habits) but sometimes I feel that its better I save my energy to play and talk to them instead. Hang in there, its hard but we have to take small steps and get hold of ourselves. edited by Maple on 04/02/2012

But I would like to mention that I have no idea of who's sponsorhip that lady is under etc so you would need to find out for yourself. If I get the number I will post back here in a few days.

Thanks for the replies. gillian56, I have seen Tawar last year when it was new and none of the villas had been rented out (loved the houses by the way) but what I would like to know is if the compound is crowded? It was our concern that due to the large number of apartments within the compound, the clubhouse may become too crowded and maintenance etc would be an issue. I would appreciate if you could give me some feedback on this. I could have been more specific in my first post but I thought I may not even get any response. RachelA, you are right I should check on availablity first thing tomm morn. Thanks again ladies.

DH has trekked in Nepal but it was quite a few years ago. He often talks about the beauty of the interior areas and the simplicity of the villagers. He is away for a few days but I can ask him if he knows of someone who can do a guided tour if you are interested?
