I need to see a dentist as I still have time to go home and can't wait. Any one tried the dentists at Family Dental? Looking for feedback on Dr Lubna Kopti as there seem to be some appointments available with her. Thank you!

Thank you for the replies. We are based in Doha and as much as I am worried about the waiting, we want to have him registered with the hospital and doctor. I thought there may be someone on the forum who could suggest some remedies that may have helped them. I am looking into whether homeopathy could help?

I did not comment here earlier as your main question was about age limit for tourist visas. We had a problem in getting a visit visa for my father in law (he was 70 at the time). But after several attempts we were able to call him here. I think as the other poster suggested, immigration would be able to clarify best for you.

Tylos pharmacy in Landmark has some Aveeno products and so does the Boots store in Villagio. The pharmacy in City Center (next to Villeroy and Boch) had limited stock as well when I checked in January but the lady there told me they have ordered a bigger shipment as there is a demand for Aveeno.

I have managed so far without a live in maid and plan to continue unless I get a full time job. We have three boys and it was difficult when they were all under five (they are all about 18/20 months apart) especially when they fell sick. My husband used to help look after them after office so I could get through some of the house work and we got through those few years. I did not want full time help because of privacy issues.

We often have guests over and our outings for them include: Katara, Fanar Islamic centre for a tour of the mosque, Souq Waqif, Museum of Islamic Art, dhow ride on the corniche, drive through the City centre area, Pearl, Inland Sea (weather and time permitting). The Sheikh Faisal museum is interesting and different. Maybe they can look at hotels in the City Centre area as taxis etc may be easier to find. I hope they have a good time.

I always bring Tylenol and Vitamin D (Jamieson) for the kids as both are not available here. U do get Panadol syrup for kids and Advil has recently become available here. So as another member said substitutes are available but if u are particular about certain medications bring them along. I find children's clothes to be cheaper and more variety back in Canada so usually stock up on from there. Hope that helps.

My oldest son had eczema as a baby. He was born in peak winter in Canada so I am sure that would have made matters worse. We were mostly able to keep it in control with Aveeno products; they have a separate range for babies and children. I hope she feels better soon!

We recently did the road trip from Doha to Muscat stopping over in Al Ain for one night. It took us about 6-7 hours to get to Al Ain due to visa delays at the UAE border. It takes about five-six hours from Doha to Dubai (have done this route as well a few years ago). From Doha we have to take a road transit visa for Saudi prior to the journey. Unlike UAE and Oman for instance, Saudi Arabia does not issue visas at the border so u will need to check with the concerned embassy. Besides this u will need to buy insurance at the borders. Out of the total 5-6 hours, the Saudi drive is about 1 and a half hours. There are no decent washrooms or places to eat so make sure u keep this in mind. Petrol is cheap though! We often have family visiting us by road from Saudi Arabia and they have always said that Qatar border has been an easy and pleasant experience. Of all the road trips in this region, our best by far has been Oman simply because of the natural beauty. Hope this helps.

We just went to Oman for 8 days in December; its a beautiful country. We drove from Doha to Muscat and I happened to find maps of Muscat at the border office while we waited for our visas. If u are referring to the Jebel Akhdar mountains then the police at the check point before the ascent stop and give u instructions as well as provide a detailed map. Have a good trip!

Hi. We used to live in Jelaiah Complex (the one on the main road). There is an office behind the Jelaiah mosque so maybe you can ask there for the details of the new compound.

I agree strongly with the others who recommended honey. I usually give my boys a teaspoon of honey with a pinch of black pepper; it helps. Steaming will also help. My paed has told me to always apply vicks on the back and not on the chest (can't recall the reason she gave me but I do follow her). Hope she feels better soon.

I believe that the purpose of my life is to learn from my mistakes, forgive and forget (I try) and be grateful for the all the blessings I have. For me being a home maker was a conscious decision so to the ladies who feel "worthless", please don't. The years spent with the children will be worth it Inshallah. :)

Not this year but we went to the iftar at Marriott last year and it was good (I don't have anything else to compare it too as that is the only one we made it to). There was a very good and varied spread. I think it was a little over QR 150 though. Have fun! emma123, where have you been for the suhoor?

I just posted a little while back on another thread regarding being pregnant and fasting. To the OP; I did not fast when I was pregnant/breastfeeding. My first born came on the last day of Ramadan and the second one on the first day of Ramadan. I recently heard a scholar speak about the provisions Allah gives us as part of the religion and that these are a form of mercy from Him. The scholar spoke about people who still insist on (for example fasting when pregnant) not taking these provisions and that this is a way of rejecting His mercy/showing that you know better than Him. I found it to be a very interesting perspective and have thus shared it here. Good Luck with whatever you decide to do.

I am sharing as I thought it was an interesting perspective.

I'd say you are really lucky to get the appointment so fast. I waited two months for my appointment only to have it rescheduled by the reception. They moved it forward by another month as she was fully booked. I did try walk ins twice during the time I waited and was refused both times. Did manage to see her finally and she is good so it was worth it in the end.

If you enjoy spicy food then here is what I do: Make a dry rub of turmeric, red chilli pwd, salt and coriander pwd (quantity of turmeric should be the least otherwise it will overpower). Add a few drops of fresh lemon juice along with water until it becomes a thick paste. Apply on the fillets and allow to marinate for one hour. Shallow fry/bake (the fried version tastes better) and do not overcook.

From what DH has been told the old rule about only a certain percentage of rent increase being allowed does not hold anymore. Our rent has literally jumped and we are in the process of looking for a new place (just when I felt settled and happy in the present house :(

Mummywatson, if you need to live close to West Bay you can consider Duhail/Al Kheesa/Al Gharaffa. Some compounds have apartments which may fit your budget. I hope that helps to just give another perspective. Good Luck with your move!!

Definitely get a 4X4 in my opinion. We have been here a couple of years now and do not regret getting a 4x4 even once. Along with the option of being able to access places like Inland Sea etc, also makes road trips to Dubai, Bahrain comfortable. I started driving recently and although DH would have loved to get me a tank, I got the Toyota Sequoia. I agree with kimmc3 that a bigger car get you more respect on the road and is safer. :)

Once again thanks a lot to all the ladies who have taken the time to reply. Has anyone had the procedure done in Dubai? Recommendations for a good doctor? I can't find someone here in Qatar and am willing to come to Dubai if there's someone really good. Also do any of you know if there are any restrictions on flying once the procedure is complete. I will have to consider this as I can't be away from home for too long either. Thanks

Thanks once again. My son has had NO ear infections which is why my husband is questioning the need for tubes...we noticed that he was not hearing as well as he usually does which is why we took him for the first visit. But the negative pressure has been present from then although his hearing has improved recently. Really hard to decide on what to do. Thanks for sharing your experiences.

Thank you for the replies. Can I also ask for how long you kept the tubes before removing; I have read online that they may be left inside for a year or so. We first noticed that he was not hearing well which is why we went to the doctor. He was in nursery as well so kept having constant colds which were not helping the situation. Have kept him home for the last two weeks and while there is improvement in the readings, the negative pressure has not gone away. Although we find that he is hearing much better now and has not had a cold for a while. And the xray shows adenoids are normal in size. I am rambling now but can you share the reason why you went in for the procedure. Thanks

I am not working presently but I'd suggest cooking and freezing meals on a weekly basis. If you start with a menu for the week, you could probably be able to use one "meat" product in two different ways; eg make a big batch of mince and use it for lasagna and shepherd's pie. The potatoes you boil for the shepherd's pie can be doubled and used for croquettes etc. When I go away in the summer and DH is not able to join us, I usually cook 50-60 individual portions of meals and freeze so all he has to do is thaw and heat. It takes me a good 4-5 days in the kitchen but worth the effort as all DH can barely manage to make is rice.

I'd love to have a fourth child but DH won't hear of it. We have three boys aged 8, 6 and 4 and DH feels that finances and energies do not permit him to consider my idea; LOL. I don't have a maid and its been hard coming to this stage with no family support in Qatar. But I still dream of having a little girl as I feel it would complete the family. Good Luck with your decision!
