You could try Star School, Umm Sheif. They have a relatively new secondary dept. so may still have places. They are taking admissions up to and including year 10.

Sorry I don't know much about Indian curriculum schools - if you don't get any up to date replies do a search on CBSE as it has been discussed in the past.

Have you looked into the British Foundation School - it's new so no reputation yet but I think it's a Taaleem school so some history there. I think it does FS1 and 2.

I know some who do and who have done. They have/had a rule that you had to be 16 or maybe 17 to actually work in the kennels but have other opportunities for younger ones with fund raising, book sales etc. I would give them a call on a weekday morning. I think they only open about 3 times a week over the summer.

http://www.campbeaumont.co.uk/ My kids used to love going to Camp Beaumont and it gave me a break too! They are always held at private schools with great facilities and most start in early July. Good selection of activies from most sports to art/drama etc. Oh, that brings back memories, I used to go on these when I was a kid. Great fun, but I can't say that I came away with any new skills. Quick hijack...can anyone recommend a decent French language camps for teenagers? I am looking for a GCSE booster rather than a social opportunity. It's quite hard to work out how focused the camps are from the websites. Do you mean in London? In which case look at Institut Francais du Royaume Uni. However, I can personally recommend www.learnfrenchinfrance.com if for an academic child but this is near Bordeaux though I think they have a centre in Surrey. Expensive though compared with the 'social' language camps.

There are definitely cheaper schools than Jess/Dess/Japs! For instance Winchester school in Jebel Ali follows the English National curriculum and costs less than 15,000 a year for primary.

It will be difficult, maybe impossible to get a British school to accept a child into term 2 of year 11 because one term later they will be taking their GCSE's. Maybe look at Raha International school.

Hi, We had a tour of Foremarke along with a few other schools a couple of weeks ago. I liked Foremarke for the small class sizes, and the children were obviously doing really well. The teachers all seemed nice as well. One thing to take into consideration is the fees - not only the annual fee but you also have to stump up a 20,000 AED "facilities" fee.... Foremarke positions itself as an English prep school abroad so if this is the type of education you want, it could be for you. We didn't choose Foremarke in the end, we went with Nord Anglia. But doesn't it follow the British Curriculum not the Independent schools curriculum that prep schools do? Yes, follows English National Curriculum but apparently will support those preparing for Common Entrance tests.

From what I understand the two situations are quite different. The BSAK head was a high profile new recruit who has been on the job for less than nine months, and it seems he surprised everyone with his resignation, and now the school has begun a search for a replacement. Speculation would be that he wasn't happy with the school or the board, or the education council - but that would be speculation. In the case of BC the head was there for some time (two years I believe?) and over time - from what I have heard from parents who have children there - the board of governers, including those from BCUK, weren't seeing eye to eye with the head and thought he wasn't the right person for the school's next phase, so they replaced him with someone from BCUK. There was no surprise resignation or period without a head. My children are at a different british school but I've heard quite a lot of color from friends close to these two institutions. And I agree with busybee2 - it is not just the head that runs the school. Indeed the BSAK head had only been there for 9 months so I wonder if his impact had even been felt yet. Thanks for shedding some light - it's nice to know a bit what's going on. My guess (and it's pure speculation!) is that it is the third option you suggest that he wasn't happy with if he was a high profile recruit as a similar thing happened some years ago with a newish head at DC. The BCAD thing was after only one year, their first I think and he seemed to be great, his wife was also involved and children at the school etc. but of course I'm only looking from the outside, so who knows, the whole profit thing must be a hard one for an educationalist I imagine. You mention below that you moved your children from BSAK to BC and now they are at another British school. Do you mind me asking where you opted for in the end?

So FS2 children born Sept-Dec will start at only age 3 - that seems incredibly young considering how formal the education in FS2 is and then they'll have to go back a year perhaps if they move. FS2 children will start at age 4 years and 8 months. I just spoke to my eldest DD's school and she said that they have received the notice from the KHDA that the new policy comes into effect from this September. They are now awaiting instructions from the GEMS corporate office on what to do with children that they have already accepted but no longer qualify for FS1. Oh ok that's better. I was just referring to Horizonmum2's quote below.

Is it known why (in general terms) the head has resigned so quickly and suddenly - is he seeing out the academic year? and indeed why it happened a couple of years ago at BCAD in a similar way ie before the end of one academic year. ?

there is a beautiful Sikh temple (gurudwara) here... it's in Jebel Ali though so quite a trek from sharjah http://gurudwaradubai.com/contact-us.php oh its very far from Sharjah....will let her know yes... she can always catch the metro till ibn batuta and then the feeder bus... The feeder bus spends ages going round the Gardens now before going towards the Gurudwara so better, quicker more direct to get the feeder bus from Energy station, but if you want a taxi then more readily available from Ibn.

It says in the rules that discussions of religion are not encouraged so maybe that saw it go. I'm sorry you are going through this. It may be that you have to rehome the dog for the sake of some harmony between you and your husband which is very important for your daughter. However, you do also need to address the marriage as a whole if he can change his mind like this. If he has let the dog down you must do your best for it. However beautiful it is it is not easy to home a desert dog mix - there are so many. Be honest with K9 friends - they may be upset and annoyed by the situation but you need to come clean. They may be full and unable to take her but if they can, write her a wonderful report and include pictures of her in your house and most particularly with your daughter. There are not so many dogs who are known to be good with children particularly such a young child so this is a big selling point for her and may ensure she doesn't stay long in the shelter. Obviously, if you can home her yourself and particularly to someone you know and trust even better. I worry that even if your husband lets you keep her now maybe when she gets old and a bit more expensive at the vet or something he will want her out and no chance to rehome her then.

D.B.F is just a nursery school so you would have to move again for year 1. I hear Taleem are building a new year 1-13 school in Jumeriah Park to open the following year which D.B.F would feed into perhaps (?) Is this on the site that was supposed to be Oundle,Dubai - have those plans been scrapped?

It was in the press recently that the new term was to start on 31 st August for everyone as part of a new "unified calendar", so our school changed our return date from 7 th September and there was mass confusion across social media with all the schools seeming to be handling it differently. In answer to the OP I just searched Gulf News for the article and it seems to have vanished !! A google search brings up almost the same proposition for every year going back a few and there is no longer any mention of it on the KHDA website... So now I don't know...has anybody else had any information from their school ? i can only comment on our brit sch in auh they have been told they have to start end august and have made the term go 2 weeks into july they usually finish like last days of june (what ever the thursday is) this year they have gone into july for the very first time for 2 days. There is apparently a certain amount of flexibility. DC revised calendar gives 7th Sept start and also goes a couple of days into July 2015.

Exactly SD positioning our children to be able to what they want in the future - isn't this what we all aspire to but we do it in different ways. Some choose boarding school others don't, I find this similar to the SAHM vs working mum scenario - whichever route you choose you do it for your own correct reasons and no-one should berate another parent for making one or other choice. Personally I don't think I would ever send mine to boarding school, but I never say never and can see the benefits. I agree. It's a choice you make based on your child, your circumstances, schools you can access here etc. I sent one for various reasons to boarding school, the others not. However, I disagree with some comments which suggest that only at boarding school can they learn to manage money, use public transport, play multiple sports and do other activities and get an excellent education. The first two are up to the parent, you give them limited money and they have to manage it, older teens will use metro, bus and legs if they don't have too much money for taxis. The others are all available in the right schools, clubs etc. if you are lucky enough to have access to them. There are some dreadful private schools in the UK and also here - you have to weigh up your options and circumstances, do your research carefully and do the best you can for your child.

There's a shop in Ibn battuta that sells kids beds including bunk beds. I'm trying to think where it is...I think not far from Paris Gallery and quite near a sort of kids gym and a chemist. It's not really in a main thoroughfare but a side branch... sorry I can' t be specific.

My worry is that if they are consistently below average in the younger years, that will affect their self-esteem in the later years. That being said, the oldest children in a class are not necessarily the strongest and vice versa... I really don't know what I will do and I couldn't make any sense of today's article regarding KG 1 cut-off dates in the Gulf News. Whatever the ministry decides,[b'> someone will be the youngest..[/b'>. This is what I puzzle about. If it becomes more and more the norm to hold back August born children then the July born become the youngest so they are held back and the June born are the youngest. If you have an immature May born they are like the youngest if there are only a few of the very strongest summer born in the class and the rest in the year below. Some schools in UK stagger FS2 full-time entry. My July born child only did full days in Reception from the beginning of the summer term whereas my November born child did full time from the beginning of the year.

The most popular schools are often but not always the older ones who have released their results at the same time for decades. If newer schools then go for an earlier date it forces parents to choose. They could go for releasing results on the same day if they wished.

Personally I feel more confidence in the simple names which just relate to location. However, I don't have children in this age group so don't listen to me! Also don't like deliberate misspellings like 'Kollege'. I'm sure many do go for the cute names. Other things - I think Puddle Jumpers is better in a country with more rain. Lucy Goosie is the wrong way round to me if you are taking it from the traditional tale. I would avoid the word 'blooming'. edited by March on 09/02/2014

A lot of good secondaries have their own primaries that feed into them eg DESC, JESS, JC, Wellington, DBS etc. and newer ones like Kings, Star, Safa. Yes DC is a good secondary but you need to think about the best fit for your child and look round a few.

I suppose that's a bit different because it does not affect the waiter or restaurant in any way whereas a child on a sugar high could affect the flight attendant and other passengers- perhaps he'd had a recent bad experience.

Just to say that if you can't find school or tutor rather than breaking up the family rest assured that I and others on this board have successfully home schooled primary aged children whilst also having a baby/toddler. It takes very good organization to have activities and schedule for baby as well as differentiated lessons and work for different aged school children but is doable, particularly if it is just until a school/tutor is sorted out.
