Use butter Hi, back home in the uk I loved to bake cakes, here now in Dubai I have a gas oven I just can't seem the hang of? Stuff burns or cooks to quick on the outside? Have turned oven down etc... And tried all sorts of ways. I have even baked cakes now in a Bain marie style to try that but they end up sinking? I also used to bake fairy cakes with Stork marg which I can't seem to find out here? Am now getting to the point of giving up. If my friends saw the outcome of my baking here! They wouldn't believe it was mine . Please help........

Most of Saheel will have flyers delivered, alot already done but there are a few area's where there will not be as insufficient volunteers to photo copy and or deliver. if you would like to help out for next year , it would be excellent as it is always on october 31st and need more volunteers to spead the load.. Ladies, Am in AR (Saheel) and am wondering if there will be trick or treating on the weekend or on Monday 31st? Anyone know? Last year I recall getting a flyer but so far haven't received anything. TIA

A long shot, but this forum never ceases to amaze me. I have been asked to do a flyer for our section of AR for for trick or treat for the kids ( display flyer if its ok to knock on your door one!). The girl that used to do it has left & I am new - so unsure on what to put on. Has anyone got a copy of a similar one being used for their area I can use as a template? thanks edited by lcoolie on 26/10/2011

In the Arabian Ranches community and in a light hearted manner, Halloween trick and treating is always on October 31st . A great way to meet ones neighbours. There is a party organised by the Golf Club over the weekend prior . Hello ladies, since Halloween (Oct 31st) this year is on a monday, was wondering if trick or treating is done the weekend before here??? Or is it done the day of????

Plants take time to adjusting location and may loose leaves at first and hopefully will recover. Maybe keep from window and direct light at present as it is very hot and give small amounts of regular water depending on type of plant. Check details for feeding your type of plant.

[b'>For removal of permanent pen markers[/b'>, Purchase a White Board Marker ( available in stationary shops) and write over the permanent marker on your furniture and wipe with a cloth. edited by McB on 21/07/2011

You need to be careful about changing brands of eltroxin as it can upset the balance. I bring my brand as it is not available here and expect some others do the same. te=Safa'>Thanks all, that's great news. Was worried about having to find a doctor for her and pay a huge consultancy fee just for a prescription!

My first prem was 762 grams( 1 lb 10.5 ozs) daughter who is now nearly 23 was only around 13 lbs ( 5.9kilo )at 1 year old. My advice is if the baby is feeding well and you are following the doctors advice,( you may be sent to see someone who specialises with this ) and baby is putting on weight forget the numbers . My daughter was put on something similar to " Complan " used for older people" but did not make much of a difference. She is small in stature now but myself and my husband are not tall. I would introduce solids now at 6 month 4 corrected but today's advice 2011 may be different. Unless child is ill do not worry once weight is going on. I'm really after just some ideas and thoughts... Obviously I've made an appointment with his peadiatrician, but I'm not sure what her advice will be and would like some of your thoughts. My little man is obviously the runt of the litter... at 6 months old (4 months corrected) he's still only just 5.2kg. Unfortunately this means he's now fallen off the WHO growth chart for his corrected age (doesn't even rate a mention on the actual age rating!). He's exclusively bf and won't take any more after a feed - he's full up! He's a perfectly healthy, happy little man. 6-8 well wet nappy's per day (clear urine). One poo daily. He has 7-8 feeds per day. Will stretch to between 5-6 hours overnight after a dreamfeed. He is the most content, happy, smiley baby. Rarely cries and when he does it's quite easy to determine whether it's hunger or tiredness. Should I expect the pead to want to put him on formula (unfortunately he's not much of a bottle fan - boobie man all the way although will take a bottle ocassionally)? Start solids early? (Based on his corrected age it would be the earliest we could possible start)? ??? TIA :) edited by McB on 09/06/2011

Dubai cat The reason I would not wish to give too much information on this is because information on this subject could easily cause undue stress and panic as I have seen with people ( little information can be a dangerous thing) Research is ongoing and best to get it from your gyn and hopefully they are more up to date as in May 2011 up to date. I have not read the research indicating what the poster Cathy has written and I believe the figures written are extremely high but may be relevant to an area she comes from but do not believe those figure to be the norm world wide. There are so many factors that affect one with regards to pre eclampsia and every patient is different. If you delivered before 28 weeks the first time due to pre eclampsia will be different to if you delivered at 37 weeks. Rest and follow Doctors advice and stay healthy. I know, it feels like forever at the moment! McB, when you say it depends on what stage the pre-eclampsia developed, do you have any more information on this? I had high BP and protein from roughly halfway through my first pregnancy (I think), then around 34-35 weeks it got higher and worse until 36+6 when my test results deteriorated and I was induced. My understanding is the earlier and more severe you get it the more likely you'll get it again. In any 1st pregancy pre-eclampsia occurs about 1 in 14 pregnancies. If you had it once your risk increases, if its in your family if your over weight very young very old, diabetic, high BP, thrombophilias, all increase risk. Risk with my 2nd pregncy jumped to 50% I had DS1 at 30 weeks with severe sudden onset pre-eclampsia emergency c-section BP was about 210/120 when I went into hospita!! DS was 1kg After the pregnancy my BP was back to normal after a few weeks. Subsequently found I had a clotting problem. Pregnancy number 2 taking aspirin and clexane, my BP hovered around bordeline from about 27 weeks and i spent many hours in for monitoring then sent home again. The magic numbers for me was 140/90 but they were extra extra cautious because how quickly it went wrong the first time. Anway I managed to get to 38 weeks with no meds, iinduced while everything was fairly stable and DD was 2kg. Rest, stay calm and do as the Dr says, and now your past 36 weeks your little one should be fine.

My heart breaks for you reading your thread and recall all the heart ache of prem babies and I am very grateful mine survived. My youngest is in her teens. I need to reread your posting and the only thing I would say straight off is if it was possible someone else could take over regularly and feed your baby to help you. You are under so much pressure which cannot be easy for you and your baby. I know the pressures of bonding and not bonding and everyone talks about it can make one feel more inadequate and I would try and not get into these conversations unless the person is actively helping you as it may drag you down. If you want to chat let me know and we can email or swap numbers. edited by McB on 08/06/2011

I tried to highlight my answers in colour but did not succeed and have put them in italics instead. Hope it is helpful and suggest you watch some cooking programs to help with equipment, don't buy every gadget. Martha Stuart is currently on TV on 206 I think. This is what I own at the moment: I have a 'chopper' (actually a baby food maker) which I use to chop onions when I am lazy, make fresh breadcrumbs etc (but tends to be a bit too small). [i'>Use old bread for bread crumbs and use grater large grate side, just as easy to do if you only need bread crumbs occasionally.[/i'> I also have a 'stick blender' / immersion blender with a jug which you can use to puree stuff e,g, soups, smoothies (again, not good for large quantities). C[i'>an you put the stick blender straight in the pot of soup and blend it ?[/i'> And a hand 'mixer' (the one with the 2 whisks) which I use to beat eggs etc. [i'>Here i would just use a cheap whish as less washing up and pulling out machines[/i'> With these 3 gadgets I seem to be able to get by most of the time but sometimes I see recipes that say, 'put all the ingredients in the food processor bowl' and am unsure whether it is chopping / pureeing / mixing OR WHAT that is required so I just avoid those and look for a different recipe... but would very much like to acquire this secret knowledge... [i'>Generally this would mean using the large blade . [/i'> So what does a 'food processor' offer that I cannot do at the moment, and if I buy a 'food processor' with 1000s of functions, how would I know which function to use when the recipe just says 'process it in the food processor'??! Can you recommend a good one that isn't too expensive? Or do you think it's unnecessary and I should just continue doing what I'm doing? [i'>I rarely use my food proccessor, i think it over does when i bake cakes so prefer to use the hand beater, which you already have.[/i'> I know this may sound obvious to most of you but I just didn't get the cooking gene, my mum had a food processor when I was a kid which was a white elephant picking up dust in a corner, occasionally used only to chop stuff like coleslaw. That's about all I know about them. Please help! Then there is the matter of pots and pans. Recipes always seem to specify some special kind of pot or pan - heavy bottom pans and cast iron pans and skittles and woks and dutch ovens. Erm, ok. All I have are a couple of cheap Prestige non-stick frying pans and pots. These seem to do the job - kind of. Do expensive pans really make a difference? Are there any must-haves that would change my life? Thanks :) [i'>Heavy bottom pans are best for sauces such as a white sauce but to be honest you really need to watch it what ever pan you use., Woks are for high intense heat for very fast cooking , eg stir frys, if you do by one do not buy non stick and store well oiled and wrap in kitchen paper. Redrec Tangle How are you doing ? Dubai Cat , The best advice I can and should give is you need to get the most up to date information available from your specialists as it is changing as research is being carried out all the time all over the world.Thankfully specialists and midwives have been trained better in this field since 1991 in the UK with a massive push from the creation of APEC and spread around the world so your specialist should be in a position to give you the best current information. Keep well and listen to your body and your doctor .
