He asked, however when I reason that we haven't got enough floor space, he said it doesn't matter, they can squeeze in. And actually for the last 2 days, we are going to be out of town and my in-law replied that is even better, more space! I think this is a cultural and show-off thing.... I have checked the hotel price and it is not that expensive due to summer season. So DH is going to talk to father-in-law. I believe the best solution is me going to stay in hotel  And thank you for eveyone kind words

That happened to me in Springs as well and it was the exhaust fan in the guest toilet and kitchen. When it is turn on, it produce this annoying humming noise. Don’t know whether it is the same problem.

We are also thinking about moving to Al Reem, but a bit concern about traffic of the long access road to 311. How is the traffic in the morning during school run time? And how long does it take to drive to WSO? TIA

Hi, The mortgage fees vary, but would usually include a preapproval fee, arrangement fee and valuation fee - typical values would be AED3,000, 1% of the mortgage amount and AED4,000 respectively (although each mortgage is different). You have the land department fees of 4% of the purchase price plus AED540, mortgage registration fee of 0.25% of the mortgage amount and AED4,000 to book the appointment for the transfer. Also the agent fees and mortgage broker fees if you don't approach the lender directly. Any real estate agent should be able to give you a breakdown of all the fees payable, and should be able to find out service fees. DEWA is probably around AED1.5k per month for average usage. Good luck! edited by ChilliChai on 24/01/2014 Thank you ChilliChai We didn't know the 4% land department fee, might need to rethink....

After 7 years of Landlord drama, we are now thinking about buying a property. If you own a villa in DSO, please give me advise on: 1. What is the yearly maintenance (service) charge? 2. What is the monthly DEWA bill? 3. On top of agency fee, lawyer fee, title deed, what are the other charges required to buy a villa? TIA

hi, thanks. I agree that it's risky to go to just any garage, particularly being a woman and just on my own:) that's why I was hoping someone can recommend a place.. but I supposed i'll just go to ENOC and I'll go to the one in Meadows, I figured they clientele is more demanding than in many other areas in Dubai so the level of service there is higher:) and when I went for service there they seemed to be knowing what they were doing.. Hi Anna How much is ENOC charging to change the tyres? The dealership is quoting aed 5000 for 4 wheels and labour, which I think it is very expensive. <em>edited by Metro on 29/10/2013</em>

I think I read that Urbano Italian, right at the bridge, is open for eat in. It was on the food diva link on another thread. Otherwise the hotels would have somewhere open. HTH I read the same link and went to Urbano on Thurs for lunch it was closed. We went to the Italian/Japanese restaurant at The Address Downtown instead Hi Hiccups Is the restaurant called Fazaris? Is the Address Downtown directly link to Dubai Mall? TIA

Hi LaLaLayla Congratulation on your win. I have a few question will appreciate if you could advise me, 1. Do you have to translate your case to Arabic? If yes, how did you find the translator and how much is the cost? 2. How long did it take to have a ruling? 3. Did the landlord have to pay the 3.5% of annual rent, since you have won the case? We might have to put our case to Rent Committee as well. Bump for my questions.

This is what I learnt from the radio show legal hours in 103.8. The landlord can only ask you to vacant the flat with 12 months notice, if 1) he is selling the flat 2) he or his relative is moving in the flat. Also he has to serve you a notice by register post. <em>edited by Metro on 28/05/2013</em>

I work PT from previously working FT. But I can't give you much tips, I just asked my boss after my 2nd baby and my boss said yes. And that is 2 years ago. Actually in my company I know at least 4 other colleague work FT. Did you ask your boss? Actually it is beneficial to the company as well. Since workload is low, they are paying me less to do probably the same amount of work.

I was planning to use the vouchers for a holiday in Jordan for Easter. I asked the hotels, they either replied that I can't use the voucher during Easter holiday or they are all full (however in booking.com there are availability). Luckily I haven't bought the book yet. So my advice is to check with the hotel before buying the book.

Hey there Went to Al Muna brunch this weekend and it was fantastic - a real treat! We were given a table in the Wharf restaurant (outside) - was quite hot but we were right on the canal and went inside to cool down from time to time. The food was superb - Zheng He was a bit of a long trek but was nice as you could space out the eating rather than the usual guzzle! The Al Muna food was amazing seafood (oysters, crab legs etc), British roast, curry, pasta and salads whereas the Wharf was pretty much all p**k! There were outdoor cooking stations all around the canal, and loads of different drinks - DH was in heaven! Quality and service was amazing and with the vouchers worked out really reasonable - about 225aed for non drinking and 280dhs with drinks. Jumeirah IMO is in a league of its own with regards to food quality and hospitality. Highly recommend! Thanks ;)

Got the clarification email from the Nursery. It stated that the 20% increase is for the lease of purpose-built premises, staff recruitment, ongoing investment in professional development, programme enhancement and infrastructure. And due to the fact that the approval was received after the start of Term 1, they decided to implement the fee increase in Term 2 and Term 3; thus reducing the impact of the fee increase to 12% for the academic year 2012-2013. Basically the attitude is we increase the fee by 20% because we can and you are very lucky it is only for term 2 & 3. :(

There is also Ngong Ping 360 cable car to the big Buddha. It is accessible by pram (I have tried it before) however pram access to the top of Buddha. http://www.np360.com.hk/en/about-np360/index.html And there is the Peak, I am not sure about pram (I went there by taxi), but I think you probably have to fold your pram in the Peak Tram. There is a play area in the Peak, it is not very big, but the kids loved it. http://www.thepeak.com.hk/en/home.asp I have stayed in Garden View YMCA Hotel a few years ago with my DD who was 2 years old. It wasn't a 5 stars hotel, but we find it is very good for value. However, one thing to note is that you have to take a taxi to go out. Which is very easy to get and cheap in Hong Kong. HTH ;)

There is an article about it in Gulf News today: http://gulfnews.com/news/gulf/uae/education/20-per-cent-fee-increase-in-18-dubai-nurseries-1.1086425 8 of the 18 nurseries are Raffles nurseries. When the increase is implemented, the nursery will charge 36,000 Dirham per year whereas KG1 in the South Campus is only 26,125 Dirham. Last school year, MOSA didn't approve a fee increase so they did it indirectly by removing the school lunches and the 5% sibling discount which adds up to around 3,400 Dirham. They also increase the class size. When my DD was in 2-3 years old class 2 years ago, there was 18 children per class. Now my DS in the same year group has 20 children per class. I already replied the email, let's hope they will response.

Without reading this thread, I thought I am the only one not happy with the increase. I am definitely going to reply to the email stating how they can increase the fee after nursery started and how they can justify the 20% increase without any improvement in facility.

I hope some of you who posted previously return to this thread. We're moving to Dubai next month and I have a 2 year old with some social delays. We're having him reevaluated here before our departure, but I suspect he may need some OT to work on group play, sharing and social interaction. What centers do you recommend? It looks like our insurance will cover services through Healthcare City and Medcare, but it sounds like maybe these types of services are offered through private clinics in Dubai? Feeling a little overwhelmed in sorting this all out. Thanks! Hi Meagle I have been recommended Kids in Motion which is in Healthcare City that offer OT. However I don't have any personal experience at this centre. You are lucky that your insurance covers OT, my insurance considered this is educational and doesn't cover it. If you have any question on my experience on special needs in Dubai including therapy and schools, please email me on dubaimetro2006 at gmail dot com

It seems like a good school, its got a good location, fee's are reasonable and the bus service has excellent pick up points. Why is this school slagged so much? Whats wrong with it? Hugsys - Which year are you looking for? My DD goes to FS1 and we are very happy with the school. She really likes her teacher. We just meet her next year (FS2) teacher and DD seems to really like her as well. The most important factor for me is that DD is happy in the school.

Hi All We have just started OT & ST for your DD 33mths. She has had epilipsy since14mths and been on various medicinces. In March this year she underwent surgery to remove a malformation in her brain that was causing the epilipsy. Due to the epilipsy and meds her development is delayed. We have just started 1 hr of OT & 3 hrs of ST per week. As we have just started its hard to say if that is too much or not enough. Since surgery she has shown great development so we are hoping that with the therapy things will move forward rapidly. so far the center has been good but early days yet - overall though we confident in them and comfortable. i guess time will tell. Cost wise i think all centers are pretty much the same per hour. I think you should have a look at other centers - just to see what options you have. Ranches Rose - what exactly is ABA? and what type of behaviour therapy do you cover? Is this privately or through a center? Missymoo - can you email me on dubaimetro2006 at gmail dot com? I would like to know which centre is your DD in. Thanks.

ummm I think maybe you should look at other centers..... possibly 10 hours of ABA therapy for a child with low functioning autisum is standard but NOT for a child with general develpomental delays... I have one client with delays and she has 4 hours a week and my other little boy has 6 hours!! these children also fit in OT and ST !! if the speech therapsit cant help you at the moment them maybe drop her and do the OT, the problem is with these centers is they dont realise that all these therapys cost lots of money :( If you have been having them for a while and not seeing much improvement them I would re assess what you might need for your DD .... do you know any other mums that can offer you advice of places they have used?? if not and you want to just have a chat then let me know and I will see if I can help you ;) Raches Rose - My email address is dubaimetro2006 at gmail dot com. Please give me an email and we can chat more in detail.

Thanks for everyone reply. She has already had hearing, eye and even blood test and everything is clear. The speech therapist told me that my DD has sensory issues and if she doesn't have OT than her speech will not improve. I have been told that 10 hours is the min hour for ABA therapy, but I have request to reduce the hours to 8 hours which they haven't reply me and it had been 2 weeks already. Therefore now I am considering changing the centre.

She has been having ABA therapy for a year and speech therapy for 6 months, there is progress but not great progress, so they pressure me to add more hours. Also she attend FS1, full mornings.

Our DS has been going to KidsFirst for about 6 months now and after all the other therapists we have seen over the last 18 months I can tell you that in our experience they are excellent. We see Anneke for OT and Claire for Speech. They both have our DS progress and happiness as their primary concern and are very accomodating to my mood swings and upsets with regards to DS and his ASD. I think you will be hard pushed to find anyone better in Dubai... Wissy, thanks for your reply. Do you know whether they have a long waiting list?
