How about you pack them a picnic and they go to Safa Park. They can easily while away a few hours there with the train ride, pedal car/bike things, play grounds, boating lake etc. The weather is still just about cool enough but there are tons of shaded areas there anyway and mid week they will practically have it to themselves. My LO LOVES it. They could then take a cab to Dubai Mall for a stroll and an ice-cream, or a cupcake and a reviving cup of tea. HTH :)

I agree, it's very hurtful. You put a lot of effort and time, not to mention money into showing these people a great time and they couldn't even muster up a bunch of flowers and a card from Spinneys/C4!! Extremely bad manners imo but, I guess as many other posters have said on previous posts, some people presume that as we live in Dubai we are loaded and therefore to be taken advantage of. Try not to be upset, you were a fabulous hostess by all acounts, just learn never to ask these friends(spongers!) again and the next time someone wants to visit lay down a few ground rules. Personally I have only ever had great guests who are happy to amuse themselves, insist on paying for meals or at the least go halves and pop to the shop regularly for milk, bread and other daily neccessities. I could never ask for money from guests but I have no problem saying we are not dining out tonight/going out, but please you go ahead, I can call you a taxi. Seems to work well for us. <em>edited by mimi on 18/04/2011</em>

is this the type of storeage we could use for like a year even if we didn't move? Yes, you could use Store All in Jebel Ali where you can actually access your stuff whenever you want aswell. Prices starting at 500dhs per month. We are using a similar set up but different place/company in Dubai- I'll ask DH the details and bring them along for you Tuesday night :)

Hi Shelly. Yes the message you sent goes to their email. A lot of EWers in the past have said it's best to leave your mobile details off the add as otherwise they received calls at unsuitable hours ie. very late at night or stupid o'clock in the morning. Also cuts down on the time wasters. HTH

Thanks for that Wuffles. In the end we were running late though so got a taxi there - metro ride for LO tomorrow instead :) SL13- I really enjoyed it. We booked an outside table in Carters, as we had our LO with us I thought it would be better than inside one of the restaurants, and it was perfect. The food and service was great, we'll definitely go back. I only have one complaint, which was no big deal, but I ordered a pasta dish in Medzo 3 times, stood in line waiting for it for a good 25 minutes and still it never arrived. It was chaos, they were totally backed up and there was no system in place for orders, but it all looked delicious so, next time, I'll go there first before it gets too busy. I did get pizza though and it was delicious, as was the selection of meats, including pork. All in all a lovely relaxing afternoon which we enjoyed very much - the diet starts(again) tomorrow;) <em>edited by mimi on 09/04/2011</em>

Hi ladies, all in the heading really;) I've looked at the metro map online but I'm not familiar with the names of the stations so can't figure out if one stops close by or not. I can find a post from 2009 that says Burjuman is the closest stop, is this still the case? Going to brunch and my LO is train mad so thought it'd be a nice start to the day for him. TIA

While my mum was over around Christmas she wanted to go to the Karama, so off we went. She made some purchases in the first shop we went into and then we moved on. About 20 minutes and 10 shops later the guy from the first shop rushed up to us, in a bit of a state saying he had been looking all over for us, and handed my mum 250dhs - her change. I didn't notice what notes she had handed him, neither had she, and tbh he could easily have pocketed it but he was extremely honest and took the time to find us. Hey Freckles :) Chef's house Radisson Blu Media City has themed evening buffets. I think it's 189 dhs including beer wine and a good selection of spirits too. Food good, should be something to suit both of your tastes, and drinks flowing. Also you could check out West 14 on the Palm, they do buy one main course and get one free. HTH

Hi Eva B. I don't have fine hair but Dubai took a huge toll on it and it was falling out in handfuls. And fearing I would soon be bald I decided to go down the vitamin route. I now take 21st Century Hair, Skin and Nails dietary supplement, two a day. It took about a month to see any noticeable change but it has totally stopped my hairfall. I pick this brand up in Spinneys but there are lots of other brands such as Perfectil. HTH :)

OMG I detested Irish dancing too. Luckily my parents soon realised I had zero coordination so I was spared further torture. I can't recommend anywhere personally but I've just googled and there seems to be a few places you could try ; http://www.dubaicityguide.com/site/entertainment/dance-class.asp http://irishsocietydubai.com/news/the-arts/irish-dancing-lessons/ I'm not familiar with any Irish clubs either and haven't met any fellow Paddies so far I'm afraid but always willing to! There is a group on FB called Irish in Dubai but it's not updated very often. Not exclusively Irish but ExpatGetTogethersInDubai on FB is also a good one ;-) , and one I use myself. <em>edited by mimi on 15/03/2011</em>

Hi Corkshelly, conas a ta tu? Sorry, but I've just seen this now and wanted to respond. Last Paddy's Day we took our then almost 18mth old toddler to the Irish Village for the afternoon and had a great time. We went right down the back where the buffet is served and we had loads of space for him to play, we even brought his Winne the Pooh car with us and some toys and he had a blast. Lots of other kids there too and there's a really great atmosphere. We left between 6 and 7pm and where we were was still roomy but around the stage and in front of the bar was thronged. We would go again this year but we are having some friends over instead. HTH agus Beannachtai na Feile Padraig duit! :)

Hi BNBH, from (hazy) memory, there is a good salad selection, not huge but tasty. Do you eat fish? As there's a small fish selection you can have cooked to order (or there was the night I was there) and there was a reasonably good selection of veg and one or two veggie rice dishes. The main chef cooking station also did dishes to order such as stir fries, so I'm guessing he could probably do a vegetarian option for you? I'm not a dessert person but there was a plenty to choose from, a crepe station, and also a small cheese selection. We weren't sure about it either but were pleasantly surprised and had a great night. The staff are very attentive, but not obtrusive, and the drinks flowed! HTH, enjoy! :)

Skipped yesterday as I was in sooo much pain(yes I am a wuss;) ) I have a question though about the very last abs exercise in level 2, twist planks I think they're called. Am I the only one who doesn't feel it in my abs? I'm holding them as best I can and think I'm doing it right but still I feel nothing. <em>edited by mimi on 27/01/2011</em>

Where are you in the 30 days? Today was day 10 level 1 for me, so I start level 2 tomorrow. Yay! Looking forward to moving up from level one now, BUT, thanks to this thread this is the first time I've got this far after several attempts. What do you like the most and least? I enjoy most of it really, especially the cardio parts but I truly hate the static lunges. OMG they still kill me! Hmmm on second thoughts maybe I should hold off answering this until tomorrow;) Have you lost or gained weight or inches? I didn't measure myself, even though I did intend to,so, I don't know for certain if I have lost any inches, but I definitely feel there is less of an overhang or muffin top than before. My clothes , whereas they aren't exactly loose, definitely sit better iykwim. So far I haven't lost any weight. Fingers crossed! What has been the biggest benefit so far? Well it's got me training and working out again. Had become quite the couch potato so I'm very glad to be somewhat back on track. Vast difference in my energy levels since starting and *mostly* but not always, it helps me make better food choices as I don't want to undo all the hard work. Also my DH has commented that I look as though I've lost weight and my butt is looking more toned. Win win! If your motivation has waned will you join in the February challenge? I didn't start at the beginning of Jan so I won't be finished until mid Feb. I'm looking forward to seeing the results first and will decide then, but at the very least I would say I will do it a few times a week and take up my running again. Thanks CycloneT, you and the other ladies have kept me going. Some days when I can't be bothered I come on here and seeing how everyone else is doing really spurs me on. Cheers !! :)

Hi Highland Lass. There are push ups in the first 2 minutes of workout level 1, but apart from that you may be able to do the modified version of the other arm exercises? I can't comment on level 2 and 3 though as I haven't even looked at those yet. Perhaps some of the other ladies will know?

It's really getting me down too:( . All I see at home is grey skies and rain and I detest it. Went home for the 'summer' (the gloom more like!) last year and ended up staying 4 months.......NOT to be repeated this year. Like Pepps, I didn't sign up for this.well you can un-sign ;) Hmmm, thanks SQ but think I'll put up with the lousy rain for now!:) The alternative, well it's not even worth considering as far as I'm concerned. Sorry to hear you are suffering JS. My DH recommends you take a look at www.surfacehippy.info , if you haven't already. Theres loads of case studies of people with all types of hip problems. He did tons of research on there before taking the plunge, but as I said, he was a good candidate for resurfacing and didn't need the full replacement. It is a big op and I was quite nervous but having had poor mobility and pain since his mid 20's it has been life altering for him, especially as he's a keen sportsman.

Hi, my DH had double hip resurfacing last year. First one was done at home in Ireland and 2nd one here 6 weeks later by Dr Chris Wately at Medcare. He's only 35 and I cannot tell you the difference it has made to the quality of his life, it truly is amazing. I understand it's not exactly the same op but similar, in fact, had this op not gone well a full replacement would have been next. HTH and let me know if want anymore info. edited by mimi on 21/01/2011 <em>edited by mimi on 21/01/2011</em>

Pregos at the Media Rotana is quite good if you like Italian. Can't remember the price exactly but pretty sure it was under 300dhs. Certo Radisson Blu Media city, again Italian(hmm bit of a pattern forming here) but it's sort of like a taster menu where the servers come to the tables with all the dishes, so no queuing and the wine was very nice. I think we paid 200dhs there last year. Most recent brunch we've been to was New Years day at the Horizon Lounge in the Habtoor Grand. It's outdoor overlooking the sea. Nice music playing in the background, good drinks selection but the food's just ok, not the best I've had I must say but, also not the worst. We were a group and it suited us really well so I probably would go back, 250dhs pp.

I love their products! I used to use them a lot. Found the foundation to be quite like MAC with great coverage and very long lasting. I've used the primer too but tbh I find I personally get better results when I use Clarins flash balm. Lip glosses are great too but I've never used their moisturiser so can't comment on that.

OMG we used to have the exact same thing too. What is that all about? Then again that was the least of our worries as upstairs also used to do regular furniture rearranging(or so it sounded like) after midnight and neighbours on the same floor as us used the hall area as their kids playground, also until quite late. Go figure! I so don't miss apartment living.

Have started many times now and never made it 10 days through to start level 2. Shocking:\: I can find a million excuses not to fit it into my day. I used to be quite fit too, sadly no more. Bday in 1 month so hoping to get an LBD on (minus the spanx) to celebrate in style. Incentive enough??
