Hello MissBey. I have used a Nutritionist recently at Absolute Fitness, her name is Ciara. I booked an appointment with her but before she would see me I needed to keep a 3 day food diary for her. I was then required to send it to her for her to analyse and then we had a consultation. She has a programme that breaks down nutrients etc and has given me a food plan to follow. She is also great that I can send her a message or call her at any time if I am unsure about something, for example I was in and out of meetings on Wednesday and hadn't had a chance to sit down to eat so I quickly rang her and she gave me advice (she doesn't charge for any of this advice which is a massive bonus for me!!) I know she is out of town just now so best to email her and she will get back to you - [email protected] her number is 056 352 6920 if you want to drop her a message.

Hello. We use Mike at Absolute Swimming, he is great with my kids and has increased their confidence in the water. My kids have a great time during their lesson, we have used a few of their swim coaches due to timings being more suitable for us and I strongly recommend them all. Give Mike a ring, 056 494 5041. Have fun

Hello We went through this at work last year over a small car incident and our employee hadn't changed her license to UAE. It happened over the National Holiday weekend so the court wasn't open. She had to stay in the cells until court opened and was taken to see the prosecutor. She was let out the same day and a court case was set for a few weeks later. I was told that if we handed in a passport and paid 5000 AED she would be guaranteed to be let out that day. I had the cash on me but didn't have a passport - it turned out we didn't need one anyway, nor did we need to pay (that happened at the court case) Be careful if you are giving someone elses passport, I personally wouldn't do it as it then means if the guarantor needs to leave the country for whatever reason they simply can't. Also, if the person held tries to do a runner, the guarantor is left liable and a case will then be brought against them. We have the Italian Embassy involved who were great. If you contact the Embassy they will be able to provide someone who speaks Arabic. It's not a nice feeling but providing the person in jail is pleasant to the police , she will be absolutely fine. Good Luck!

Hello Ameena. I had my brace put on in May by Dr Anand Shenoy in Motor City (he also has a clinic in Satwa). Excuse the long winded post but this is why I would say, hands down he is the best dentist i've ever come across. When I had my first appointment I told him that I wanted them off within 16 months as I have my best friends wedding, he told me there and then that what I wanted done was a 2 year job and he can't guarantee I would be able to have them off within my dead line. Anyway, long story short I was there last week and I am getting them off in 4 months (max!) so the 2 year job is now a 10 month job. The braces I have are called Damon Braces and there are different price ranges depending on the visibility you wish. I paid 18,000 AED for the top of the range which are pretty much invisible and not many people notice I have braces unless you look really close. If I am right, they start at 8,000 AED and you pay as and when you wish ie 500 AED a month, 1000 AED a month etc. His number is 04 422 6915. That's for the Motor City branch but they will be able to connect you to the Satwa branch if that is closer to you. Good Luck - it's certainly the best thing I ever did and I am so pleased with the results so far. X

Hi dollybird. I am sorry to hear what you are going through - I have been through something very similar 4 weeks ago. My advice is do not google, if you want to speak to friends about it ensure you only tell your closest and the ones who are positive. I only told a handful of my girlfriends as I needed their positivity to get me through the weekend before my apt on the Monday. I know it's so much easier to say but try to keep busy to keep your mind off the situation. It's the "unknown" that's scary. Stay positive. I bought some awesome Robin Sharma books to take my mind off what was going on. It really helped. Will be thinking of you and have my fingers and toes crossed X

Hi Nemesia. Congratulations on the birth of your wee one :) I have always wanted to lose weight quickly but always found that it went back on just as quick. I have a fantastic trainer called Ashleigh - 052 2992539 who has helped me with my weight and also my nutrition. I have been out of training for 2 weeks post op and have still be able to shred the weight as my nutrition is up to scratch. Give her a ring, she will be able to guide you - even if it's only for nutrition as she covers that too.

When I lived in the Marina I used a lady called Gracy - 050 6789177. She has her own company but am not too sure what it is called. I know she covers a lot of Dubai as my friends in Springs, Meadows and the Palm use her. We have recently moved to Sports City and still use her. She has a number of girls but will also show up to your place first time with them to ensure everything you want cleaned is communicated properly to the girls.

I understand where you are coming from Schnuppi. I spend 2 hours on a Saturday afternoon preparing my food for the Sunday, Mon and Tues & then on the Tues afternoon I prepare my food for the Wed & Thurs. I take it to work with me in containers from Spinney's which are sectioned lunch boxes. The lunch box is sectioned in half with one box and the other half is split into 2, so I put my main lunch in the half and my 2 snacks in the quarters. I too can't think of anything worse than cooking when I come home from work every night but for me, cooking on a Sat & Tues is the only way that will work for me to keep my body fat down. Regarding exercise - have you thought about doing things like swim lessons? Low impact sports are great for knee injuries. Hope you can find something that works for you x

Hi Schnuppi I feel your frustration - I use to be like this, thought the less I ate the more it would keep my weight down but infact it didn't. I couldn't understand why I was gaining weight until I saw a PT 2 years ago. She told me that I had to eat triple what I was currently eating if I wanted to even see a slight difference in weight ... I now eat 6 times a day and the weight is dropping off me. I came across a great girl over summer break called Ciara who is a qualified nutritionist and she tweaked my diet slightly. Give her a ring, 056 352 6920. She will be able to advise you properly, she also did my body fat percentage, inserted my food diary into a software which she has that breaks down all my nutrients - I have found this so helpful. I hope the above helps but my main advise to you is EAT MORE!!

Hi TB. I was in Shangri La 3 years ago and I thought it was totally over priced. It is very nice and relaxing, lovely restaurants which have buffets so you get a wide range choice. The restaurant we were in had great child entertainment, magicians coming round, henna and lots more. Like I said, we really enjoyed it however it is very over priced. Have a blast

Hi Oreo, We had this same problem 2 years back but when we called round companies to ask them to come in to do lessons they said that they were not allowed in by Emaar unless they had a license. Emaar only give out x amount of licenses and I guess once you are in the door then no new sports company can get in. As we would have been using a communal pool, we now go to the swim teacher in their pool in Barsha. I think rules are different if you have a villa pool. Hope you can find someone already in x

I too thought this was a wind up from day 1, just someone trying to entertain us ladies. However, If the husband has been banned from working, it must go through municipality - they are the only ones that can ban someone from working although he can still be in Dubai on a tourist visa. If the husband is banned from Dubai (also UAE) then there will be a police case against him, for him to be out the country the case will have been opened after he left - he can't have got out the country with a case open here! I would not be getting involved with anyone if there was a police case against my husband, the police will dig deep and the laws are very tough out here!! From what I understand from your post, you are now seeing his ex boss - something I would not be getting involved in if there was a case in dubai! I certainly would not be proud of your latest thread and posting it on sites, the police out here are extremely tough and i would HATE to be on the wrong side of the law! There is also your child to think of, you have taken them away from their daddy. Regardless what you think, children make up their own minds and I would hope despite what has happened that you would never BS your child to disliking their dad. What has happened is between you and him and regardless of that, I'm sure I read in the past you stated your husband was a great father to your child. This story really does not add up, I'm sorry to say ... If it is true, I feel for the little child not being able to see their father!

Hi Rach. I have been in child's play nursery to pick my friends child up and must say the nursery is amazing. From the minute I walked in the door, it felt different to other nurseries. They have lovely areas to play games, run around and have many fantastic toys for the children to play with. When the children come in to nursery in the morning there is music being played whilst the children play around. Their sister nursery is small world however it did not feel as friendly as child play. The lady in the office Carla is lovely and will be able to help you with any questions you would like answered. The children also get offered activities with outside providers such as swimming and dancing. I don't know anything about Oasis nursery so can't compare however if I have more children in Dubai they will certainly be going to Child's play (pref) or Small World.

But did your friend sign a contract at the beginning agreeing to the charge? My fear is because I signed the company contract when I joined I will have to pay. My friends at a different company say that although company contracts are not legal in UAE law, they still have some sway and that's why the big companies here have them. I am not 100% sure, I know they were trying to charge her for relocation fees which the labour have said is illegal (I think this was because it wasn't stated in her contract). and btw - she didn't even stay in the company for 1 year. I do know some companies charge for visa's if you leave early however it is stated very clearly in the contract.

I've had a friend who came out her contract and they are trying to make her pay. She went to the labour office and was told it is completely illegal what her work were trying to do. If you go to the labour office with your contract, they will be able to tell you exactly what you have to do. My friend does not have to pay anything although her work will not drop the fee. Good Luck :)

Dear Miss Issipi I have a fantastic, very experienced personal trainer called Katherine. She has been training me ever since October and even though I've had two previous trainers here (who btw were not qualified and extremely lazy!!!) I have never been as toned as I am now. Katherine is there to push me every step of the way, constantly being kept on my toes and when I'm having a "can't be bothered" day, she will continuously motivate me throughout the whole session. We mix our training up from training in the gym, outside, on the beach and in the park so there's never a chance to get bored of scenery. It's great fun, she also has her own equipment so sessions are varied. One thing I will say is if you are going for a trainer, ensure they are qualified. I had 2 previous male trainers and neither of them were qualified and as I have found out from Katherine, 75% of the way I was lifting weights etc was wrong. I really can't recommend her enough. I get up each morning and literally "hop, skip and jump" to training. She came highly recommended to me and not only has she made me feel better physically about myself but also mental aspects too. Give her a ring on 050 188 0394. Good Luck :D

Hi JheaG, Like Ruth, I use a personal trainer for several reasons too mainly due to "not finding time" with the long work hours I do. My trainer is fantastic, very experienced girl called Katherine. She has been training me ever since October and even though I've had two previous trainers here (who btw were not qualified and extremely lazy!!!) I have never been as toned as I am now. Katherine ensures my techniques are correct and is always giving me feedback throughout the sessions. I am constantly being kept on my toes and when I'm having a "can't be bothered" day, she will continuously motivate me throughout the whole session. We mix our training up from training in the gym, outside, on the beach and in the park. It's great fun, she also has her own equipment so sessions are varied. I won't go back to training on my own, I don't have the motivation and I know that Katherine will always be there to help me if I am unsure how to do a movement/need a bit of encouraging. One thing I will say is ensure the trainer you are going with is qualified, I had 2 previous male trainers, neither of them were qualified and as I have found out from Katherine, 75% of the way I was lifting weights etc was wrong. I can't recommend Katherine enough, she came highly recommended to me. Give her a ring on 050 188 0394. She also has a few clients who in the past have started training with her after giving birth so I am sure you will not be disappointed. Good Luck :D

Oopsiedaisy, I certainly was not saying you were going to sell tickets to make a profit, I was simply stating why I know the organisers have put a message to many forums stating no resell. I agree with you regarding selling tickets on at face value - I actually thought you posted the first mail and over looked Izzy's message. Sorry for the confusion

Hi oopsiedaisy. I do know that the reason the organisers have said no reselling is due to people making a massive profit. I know the other year there were people standing outside the gate trying to sell their tickets but at a discounted rate. Maybe some of your friends would be willing to buy them from you?

Hi treehuggingmuslim Congratulations on the birth of your baby. I have a female trainer (not sure on experience with c-sections but you can call to ask) who is the best trainer I've come across in Dubai. Her name is Katherine, contact number - 050 188 0394 and came highly recommended to me. I have been training with her for 4 months now and have never been this fit or toned as I am now. As I said above, I'm not sure on her experience with what you're looking for but give her a ring and if she can't help, I am sure she will know someone who can. Good Luck x PS - something which I got caught up in when I was looking for a trainer was going with someone who was "cheap" needless to say, it turns out neither of my previous trainers were qualified so ensure the trainer you go with has legal qualifications.

We swim with Absolute swimming in their pool in Barsha but our friend has home lessons with them. Give them a ring, 050 556 0890 and I'm sure they may be able to help you. From what I understand though, they have to do after school activities first before other lessons, if you were looking for an early start, maybe it's best to go with a freelance instructor rather than through a company?
